Sean Strickland vs Anthony Hernandez Fight Preview and Breakdown UFC Houston 2026

UFC Fight Night in Houston (Toyota Center) on February 21, 2026 closes with a pure styles clash at middleweight, with Sean Strickland’s jab-heavy, pressure boxing against Anthony “Fluffy” Hernandez’s pace grappling and submission hunting. On paper, the numbers explain why this fight is so compelling. Strickland pushes a high-output striking game (5.95 significant strikes landed per minute via UFC Stats) while Hernandez pairs efficient striking with one of the most aggressive takedown rates in the division (6.46 takedowns per 15 minutes).

Strickland’s jab-first boxing and damage accumulation

Strickland’s best rounds are built on simple, repeatable wins: occupy the center, pump the jab, and force opponents to throw first into his reads. He absorbs a fair amount in return (4.57 SApM) because he is willing to trade volume for control, but his defense and pacing let him keep the same cadence in the later rounds (if it gets there).

The strategic question is whether Strickland can keep Hernandez at the end of combinations long enough to discourage level changes. Strickland’s takedown defense is really solid at 76%, and he does attempt takedowns himself at a low level (0.73 per 15 minutes), but his primary win condition is still to bank minutes with clean, repeatable boxing exchanges to get the decision.

Hernandez’s chain wrestling and submission volume

Hernandez is not a “one shot” wrestler. His whole game is built on repeat entries, resets, and re-attacks until the clinch becomes a scramble. Statistically, it shows: 6.46 takedowns per 15 minutes with 1.8 submissions attempted per 15 minutes is a rare combination at 185.

Even if Strickland initially stuffs shots, Hernandez can still win sequences by forcing extended grappling exchanges that drain output and lower Strickland’s jab volume. Hernandez also absorbs very little (2.53 SApM), which suggests he is hard to hit cleanly when he is dictating phase changes.

Where the fight is decided: entry defense vs scramble management

This main event likely swings on two micro-battles:

First contact on Hernandez’s entries. Strickland must make Hernandez pay with straight punches before the hips get involved. If Hernandez gets to the body lock consistently, the fight becomes a cardio and position test.

What happens after the first stop. Even strong takedown defense can lose if the defender cannot reset to stance quickly. Hernandez thrives when opponents defend one attempt and then get dragged into the next exchange.

    The cleanest paths to victory

    FighterWin conditionWhat must show up
StricklandBox at range, deny clean clinch entries, win rounds on volumeJab discipline, early intercepts, fast stance resets
HernandezForce grappling minutes, win scrambles, threaten submissions to keep Strickland defensiveChain wrestling, top pressure, re-shots after the first stop

If Strickland is consistently jabbing and forcing Hernandez to shoot from too far out, he can turn this into a long, frustrating kickboxing match. If Hernandez gets repeated clinch contact and turns every defense into a second and third attempt, the math shifts quickly in his favor.

UFC Houston 2026 Strickland vs Hernandez Predictions

UFC Houston goes down on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from the Toyota Center, streaming on Paramount+ with prelims at 5 p.m. ET and the main card at 8 p.m. ET.

Below are my UFC Houston predictions for the fights that will shape the night most, starting with the five round main event at middleweight.

    Quick picks (main card)

    FightPrediction
Sean Strickland vs Anthony HernandezHernandez by decision
Geoff Neal vs Uros MedicNeal by KO or TKO
Dan Ige vs Melquizael CostaCosta by decision
Ante Delija vs Serghei SpivacDelija by decision
Michel Pereira vs Zach ReesePereira by KO or TKO
Jacobe Smith vs Josiah HarrellSmith by decision

Main event prediction: Anthony Hernandez vs Sean Strickland

This matchup is basically cardio grappling pressure vs jab heavy, front foot boxing. On paper, Hernandez has the clearest win condition: force clinches, chain takedowns, and make every minute ugly. Strickland lands at high volume (5.95 significant strikes per minute via UFC Stats), while Hernandez’s game is built around takedowns (6.46 per 15 minutes) and submission threats (1.8 subs per 15).

The betting market has largely treated Hernandez as the favorite, with lines around Hernandez -285 and Strickland +230 (as of Feb 16). The key question is whether Strickland can keep enough stretches upright to win rounds. He is good at making fights competitive on the cards, which is why the “Strickland stays close” angle has shown up in early betting analysis.

Pick: Hernandez by decision. Over five rounds, Hernandez’s pace and repeated takedown attempts should bank minutes even if he is not holding long top control.

    Geoff Neal vs Uros Medic

Neal being a slight favorite makes sense in a three round fight where one clean shot can swing everything. Neal is currently listed at around -185. Medic is live early, but Neal’s experience in high level welterweight fights and his ability to punish mistakes makes him my predicted winner.

Pick: Neal by KO or TKO.

    Dan Ige vs Melquizael Costa

This is a tough style test for Ige because Costa can push tempo and pile up damage in volume spots. Tapology has Costa favored (around -220). Ige is durable and savvy, so I lean decision rather than a quick finish.

    Pick: Costa by decision.

    Ante Delija vs Serghei Spivac

Several predictions have made a strong early case for Delija as a value side given how weird the optics were around his most recent result, and they noted available numbers near -150. Tapology also leans Delija as the favorite (around -170).

    Pick: Delija by decision.

UFC Fight Night 104 live results: Dennis Bermudez vs. Chan Sung Jung

Welcome to F4WOnline.com’s live coverage of UFC Fight Night 104: Bermudez vs. The Korean Zombie, emanating from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

The event is headlined by a five-round bout in the featherweight division as Dennis Bermudez looks to make it three straight wins as he welcomes “The Korean Zombie”, Chan Sung Jung, back to the Octagon.

Bermudez has posted back-to-back wins over Tatsuya Kawajiri and Rony Jason, and he has won nine of his last eleven fights overall. Jung returns from being out of action for three-and-a-half years, two of which were due to military service in his home country of South Korea, and the rest due to recovering from injuries. Jung has been one of the most exciting fighters in the sport, being involved in many “Fight Of The Year” contenders, having won a “Submission Of The Year”, and being tied for the fastest knockout in UFC history.

In the co-main event, Alexa Grasso looks to continue her climb up the strawweight rankings as she fights in the UFC for the second time, putting her undefeated record on the line against Felice Herrig. Also on the main card is another pivotal bout in the strawweight division as Jessica Andrade takes on Angela Hill. Andrade has won two straight and could be in line for a title shot if she defeats Hill, who returns to the UFC on the heels of becoming the strawweight champion in Invicta.

Follow along with our live coverage of the event beginning at 7 p.m. ET with preliminary action all the way through the main card.

    > Alex Morono (13-3, 2-0 UFC) vs. Niko Price (9-0, 1-0 UFC)
    Welterweights

Morono had the hometown crowd behind him as he’s from Houston. Price was landing better with the kicks early but Morono got the better of the punches. Morono then rocked Price and had him in a lot of trouble. Price recovered and they were trading back-and-forth with Morono getting the better of the exchanges. Morono dropped Price right at the end and nearly finished him but Price survived. The first definitely went to Morono, 10-9.

Price was still stunned coming out for the second round. Price was fighting slower and Morono was landing his punches before Price started getting some steam back. Morono was showing good footwork and landing some solid combinations. Price did get Morono in trouble and Morono was scrambling on his feet. Price was landing big at the end and knocked Morono down at the end and Morono looked finished but the round had ended. Referee Kerry Hatley stopped the fight and Price has a win by TKO!

Official Result- Niko Price def. Alex Morono by knockout (punches) at 5:00 of Round 2

FOX SPORTS 1 PRELIMS | 8 PM ET/5 PM PT

    > Tecia Torres (#6, 7-1, 3-1 UFC) vs. Bec Rawlings (7-5, 2-2 UFC)
    Women’s Strawweights

Torres was really sharp with her combinations early in the round. Rawlings was just missing on a lot of her punch attempts. Torres was getting the better of the clinch action but Rawlings was landing inside the clinch as well. Torres was mixing everything well while Rawlings was relying mainly on straight punching in the opening round. Neither woman had the other in serious trouble but the volume and the action was paced by Torres. Torres got the round 10-9.

Rawlings came out strong in the second round and got an early takedown. She was all over the back of Torres and looking for a choke. Torres got out of it and they brawled in a clinch before Torres took Rawlings’ back on the mat and went hunting for a choke. Torres went working for an arm-triangle but was just landing from the top. She went for a late armbar but Rawlings escaped. Rawlings had it early but Torres came on strong. Round two 10-9 for Torres, and her up 20-18.

Rawlings was likely needing a finish here but didn’t go for the kill at all. They were exchanging and Torres was getting the better of it. Rawlings, at one point, let the crowd know they are number one. Torres was landing her combinations at will and it really made the difference in the final round, and the majority of the fight. Rawlings went for a clinch but Torres reversed it into a takedown. Rawlings ended up on top but didn’t do much from there when she had a chance. I had round three 10-9 for Torres and her winning 30-27.

Official Result- Tecia Torres def. Bec Rawlings by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

    > Ricardo Ramos (9-1, 0-0 UFC) vs. Michinori Tanaka (11-2, 2-2 UFC)
    Bantamweights

They were trading out with both feeling each other out. Tanaka got a brief takedown. Tanaka slipped on a punch and Ramos tried to soccer kick him but missed, which would have been bad. Tanaka got knocked down from a right hand and Ramos started teeing off with punches looking to finish. Tanaka looked in a ton of trouble but survived though he was wobbly on his feet.Tanaka spent the end of the round circling away. Big round for Ramos. 10-8 round for Ramos.

Ramos slowed down his pace at the start and it allowed Tanaka more time to recover. Tanaka had Ramos pressed against the fence but Ramos went to work with a takedown and on the ground. Ramos went for an armbar but Tanaka got out. Tanaka started working from the top and went for a choke but Ramos was able to get Tanaka down before they went to their feet. Ramos landed a big right hand but not much else happened after. Another round for Ramos, 10-9, and I have him up 20-17.

Ramos slowed down his pace in the third and Tanaka was starting to come on strong. Tanaka was pushing the pace and landing kicks while circling away. The crowd started to boo as there was a lack of action. Herb Dean called a timeout and chastised both men for a lack of action. Tanaka was just circling away and landing one punch here and there. Ramos, for his part, wasn’t doing much either, just landing glancing punches and kicks. Both men looked clearly tired. Tanaka scored a late takedown which likely sealed him the round. It’ll be interesting how it’s scored as the second round was close. I had round three 10-9 for Tanaka, and Ramos winning 29-27 overall.

Official Result- Ricardo Ramos def. Michinori Tanaka by unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28)

    > Chas Skelly (16-2, 5-2 UFC) vs. Chris Gruetzemacher (13-1, 1-0 UFC)
    Featherweights

Skelly was getting the better of the striking on the feet early and then he scored a takedown. Skelly was just suffocating from the top as he was working constantly for positional improvement. Skelly got the mount for a moment but switched up and was landing sharp elbows and hammerfists from the top. Skelly went for a choke late but didn’t get it, though it was a dominant round. 10-9 for Skelly in the first.

Skelly was landing some clean punches in the opening of the second round. Skelly got a takedown but Gruetzemacher was landing punishing elbows. Skelly escaped trouble and took the back and was looking for a choke. He had it locked in and Gruetzemacher was forced to tap out! Big submission win for Skelly as he completely dominates the fight. Skelly asked for a fight at UFC 211 in Dallas on May 13 as his birthday is May 11.

Official Result- Chas Skelly def. Chris Gruetzemacher by submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:01 of Round 2

    > Adam Milstead (8-1, 1-0 UFC) vs. Curtis Blaydes (6-1, 1-1 UFC)
    Heavyweights

Blaydes got three massive takedowns early on. He was landing big punches and then got another big takedown slam. Blaydes was landing knees to the buttocks of Milstead and threw him around some more. They got up but Blaydes scored another massive takedown that almost planted Milstead on his head. Blaydes was landing more punches to end the round. I don’t know how Milstead survived. A big 10-8 round for Blaydes.

Blaydes got another takedown at the start and was back to landing knees to the lower half of Milstead. Blaydes then tripped Milstrad and it looked like Milstead blew out his knee on the landing and the referee stopped it immediately. Milstead already had a hurt knee after the first round and was sent back out and it completely blew out and he had to be helped from the cage.

Official Result- Curtis Blaydes def. Adam Milstead by TKO (injury) at :59 of Round 2

FOX SPORTS 1 MAIN CARD | 10 PM ET/7 PM PT

    > Jessica Andrade (#5, 15-5, 6-3 UFC) vs. Angela Hill (6-2, 1-2 UFC)
    Women’s Strawweights

They were swinging early. Both landed some hard punches. Andrade was landing punches but Hill was coming back with some kicks. Andrade landed a couple of big flurries but Hill was showing a strong chin on her. Andrade was consistenly throwing off punch combinations with a lot of power behind them. Hill was eating them and landing a lot of kicks in return. Andrade rocked Hill late with some punches. Andrade gets the first round, 10-9.

Andrade was launching off a lot of punches but Hil was eating them and firing back herself. These ladies were swinging very hard. Hill was using good movement to keep away from Andrade but it didn’t work so much as Andrade was able to get inside at will and land some big combinations. The speed of Andrade’s punches is just amazing. Hill has a tough chin and is landing some good shots of her own, testing Andrade’s chin. Andrade got a late takedown and looked for a choke. Hill defended but then Andrade landed a big slam towards the end. Hill scored but Andrade was just ruthless this round. 10-9 round for Andrade and her up 20-18 after two.

These ladies were throwing some bombs with a crazy flurry of strikes against the fence in the first minute of this round. Hill is showing signs of fatigue and Andrade is just swarming on her. Andrade landing a strong flurry that had Hill rocked and then Hill dropped Andrade! Wow, but Andrade was able to recover. They are just throwing everything at each other. Andrade is landing with much more power and volume but Hill is a scrapper. Andrade with more big flurries of punches. I have no clue how Hill survived this fight. An absolutely fantastic fight that got a huge reaction afterwards. 10-9 Andrade in the third and 30-27 Andrade overall. Andrade got the fight and likely secured the next title shot.

Official Result- Jessica Andrade def. Angela Hill by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

    > Anthony Hamilton (15-6, 3-4 UFC) vs. Marcel Fortuna (8-1, 0-0 UFC)
    Heavyweights

There was a 48-pound weight differential in this fight. Fortuna had a gigantic cut above his eye open up early. It’s a very bad cut but the doctor is letting Fortuna continue. Fortuna then clipped Hamilton coming in and Hamilton face-planted onto the mat and the fight was stopped! Nice comeback for Fortuna who gets the win despite the bad cut and being at a huge weight disadvantage.

Official Result- Marcel Fortuna def. Anthony Hamilton by knockout (punch) at 3:10 of Round 1

    > Ovince Saint Preux (#6, 19-9, 7-4 UFC) vs. Volkan Oezdemir (12-1, 0-0 UFC)
    Light Heavyweights

Oezdemir was on the attack early and caught Saint Preux with some good kicks and got a takedown. Saint Preux wasn’t doing much on offense until late in the round when he landed some big punches. Oezdemir was landing the leg kicks at will and landed a flurry of strikes at the end of the round. 10-9 round for Oezdemir.

Saint Preux was looking for a home for the left hand and was landing it and scored a takedown early in the second. Oezdemir is landing leg kicks. Saint Preux is not doing much of anything in this fight so far and the crowd is booing. Oezdemir is winning the striking exchanges, which there are very few of. This is a very boring fight. I give round two 10-9 to Saint Preux, and have it 19-19 overall. It could be either way, though.

Both men look tired heading into the final round. Saint Preux got a takedown. Both landed some punches. This fight is boring, Both guys should lose. Unfortunately someone has to win, and the fans certainly didn’t as they booed this one loudly. Saint Preux landed with more power and volume in the last round, which should get him the round. He did land a big flurry at the end of the fight that definitely sealed him the round. 10-9 Saint Preux, 29-28 Saint Preux. Oezdemir got the decision, actually, which got a lot of boos and I’m not sure about that one.

Official Result- Volkan Oezdemir def. Ovince Saint Preux by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

    > Abel Trujillo (15-6 1 NC, 6-2 1 NC UFC) vs. James Vick (9-1, 5-1 UFC)
    Lightweights

It was a feeling out process early on before Trujillo turned the tide with a takedown into side control. Not much was happening on the ground until Vick grabbed a neck but it just allowed Trujillo to improve position. They got to their feet and Vick landed a combo and a body kick. Vick landed late. Not much happened and tough to score but I have it 10-9 Vick.

There wasn’t much happening early on in the second round. Both man landed some solid punches. Vick was ducking all of Trujillo’s punches. Vick got a takedown into mount against the fence. Vick turned it into a D’arce choke but didn’t have it all the way in. Trujillo managed to get out and Vick ended up in side control and went for the choke again. Trujillo out and to his feet and Vick landed some kicks late. 10-9 Vick in the second with him up 20-18.

Vick rocked Trujillo early in the third. Trujillo tried a takedown but Vick reversed to the top and had a D’arce choke locked in and Trujillio tapped out. Vick gets the submission win as it looks like Trujillo just gave up on the fight. Vick also asked to be on the Dallas UFC 211 card on May 13 as he is also from that area.

Official Result- James Vick def. Abel Trujillo by submission (D’arce choke) at :49 of Round 3

    > Alexa Grasso (#12, 9-0, 1-0 UFC) vs. Felice Herrig (11-6, 2-1 UFC)
    Women’s Strawweights

Grasso went for a jumping kick and missed and fell but went for a heel hook and it allowed her to get back to her feet. They were trading but Grasso using good movement to miss the punches of Herrig. They traded and Grasso landed cleaner. Her hand speed is very strong but Herrig is right there with her. Herrig landed a solid combo. Grasso landed a strong punch at the end of the round. Close round, but I have it 10-9 for Grasso. She really landed counters well and stayed outside the range of Herrig.

Herrig landed a big right hand. Grasso missed a big spin kick but her speed is strong. Herrig is landing, though, but is being backed up a lot by Grasso. Grasso landed a body kick but ate a big counter from Herrig. Grasso landing some leg kicks and making Herrig miss until Herrig lands a right hand. Both ladies are landing but Herrig is landing cleaner. Herrig had a takedown stuffed late after eating some shots from Grasso. Another close round, but I have it 10-9 for Herrig and it 19-19 after two. Herrig definitely feels ahead in this fight, though.

Herrig got a big takedown in the third and got right into mount. Grasso reversed out to her feet very quickly. Grasso landed a right hand and started to push the pace more. Grasso doesn’t look like her normal self tonight, and Herrig is looking real good tonight as well. Grasso landed a combination. Herrig landed a very stiff jab. They got in a clinch but broke. Grasso landed a solid combo. Grasso had Herrig stunned late. Another close round. This will be interesting. I have round three 10-9 for Grasso and her winning 29-28.

Official Result- Felice Herrig def. Alexa Grasso by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
