Mick Foley reveals Iron Survivor Challenge qualifying matches for WWE NXT

The Iron Survivor Challenge qualifying matches for NXT this week have been announced.

Mick Foley posted a video to Instagram on Saturday revealing that Dijak vs. Tyler Bate and Fallon Henley vs. Tiffany Stratton have been added to the lineup for Tuesday’s show.

“Hello NXT, it’s the hardcore legend here, WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley and I’m so excited because HBK Shawn Michaels has granted me the honor of selecting the qualifying matches this week for the Iron Survivor Challenge,” Foley says in the video.

“Let’s start with the women. Now, I’ve been watching NXT’s women’s division for a long time and It’s extremely strong. Two of the top women I want to specifically talk about, Fallon Henley and Tiffany Stratton. Now, their match last week never took place due to Tiffany’s attack so I say we absolutely see that match this week, and we up the stakes just a wee bit with the winner punching their ticket to Deadline.”

“As far as the men, two guys I’ve been watching a long time, long before any of you knew their names, Dijak, always thought this guy was a future champion but in order to get to Deadline, Dijak will have to get past a guy I’ve known and followed since he was a teenager, the big strong boy Tyler Bate. It’s going to be a great match-up of different styles. I can’t wait to see these matches this Tuesday on NXT.”

WWE announced the men’s and women’s Iron Survivor Challenge matches will return at NXT Deadline on December 9 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Pinned, submitted, or disqualified wrestlers are sent to a penalty box for 90 seconds before being allowed to return to the match. Grayson Waller and Roxanne Perez won last year’s matches at NXT Deadline 2022.

Below is the updated lineup for Tuesday’s NXT.

  • NXT Heritage Cup: Noam Dar defends against Akira Tozawa
  • Lyra Valkyria to make return
  • Bron Breakker vs. Von Wagner
  • Iron Survivor Challenge qualifying match: Tiffany Stratton vs. Fallon Henley
  • Iron Survivor Challenge qualifying match: Dijak vs. Tyler Bate

Iron Survivor Challenge to return at WWE NXT Deadline

The Iron Survivor Challenge is back.

It was announced on Tuesday that the multi-person stipulation bout would be making its return at NXT Deadline on December 9 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Qualifying matches will begin on next week’s NXT.

The stipulation was first introduced during last year’s Deadline, when Roxanne Perez and Grayson Waller won the first-ever women’s and men’s Iron Survivor matches. As a result, both received championship matches. Perez would defeat Mandy Rose to win the NXT Women’s Championship, while Waller failed to win the NXT Championship.

The rules of the Iron Survivor match has five wrestlers competing in the match, which lasts 25 minutes. Two wrestlers begin the match, and every five minutes another wrestler enters. Each wrestler gets a point if they score a pinfall, submission, or are a victim of a disqualification. Whoever is pinned, submitted, or disqualified goes into a penalty box for 90 seconds. The winner of the match, or Iron Survivor, is whoever scores the most points at the end of 25 minutes.

Grayson Waller, Roxanne Perez win Iron Survivor matches at NXT Deadline

Grayson Waller and Roxanne Perez made WWE NXT history Saturday, winning the first-ever men’s and women’s Iron Survivor matches at Deadline.

Waller picked up his win by getting his third and game-winning point with less than a minute to go followed by him running away from everyone else to secure the win.

Axiom and JD McDonagh were the first two entrants with neither able to score a fall before Carmelo Hayes entered the fray as the third entrant. With three minutes to go before the fourth entrant, Hayes got a pin on Axiom after hitting a suplex-style cutter.

Waller was the fourth entrant, immediately scoring a pin first on on Axiom and then McDonagh after a combo DDT/cutter on both of them to get two quick points.

Even after the 90-second penalty box time expired on Axiom and McDonagh, Axiom closed the box and the two men fought inside with Axiom walking out. Several minutes later, Axiom scored a pin on Waller off a Frankensteiner roll-through followed by a pin on McDonagh on a reverse Frankensteiner and Golden Ratio to then tie Waller with two points.

Gacy entered the match last and got a submission on Axiom within a minute to pick up his first point. As Axiom went to the box, Waller attacked him and McDonagh followed suit to leave him in the box. Gacy got his second point after hitting an Upside Down World on Hayes.

Hayes got his second point after submitting Waller with a crossface as the match approached the 20-minute mark.

With less than a minute to go, Hayes hit his signature diving leg drop on Axiom but was thrown out of the ring by Waller who then pinned Axiom for the third and deciding point. He ran away from all the other wrestlers as the match wound down, securing his win.

With the victory, he earned a future shot at the NXT Championship.

In the main show opener, Perez won the first-ever women’s Iron Survivor match to earn a shot at NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose.

“The Prodigy” opened the match with Zoey Stark, followed by Kiana James entering the fray five minutes later. Stark went up 1-0 right as Cora Jade entered the match, pinning Perez after hitting Zo-Topia. Jade then got a pin shortly after, hitting Pop Rocks on James.

Hartwell was the final entrant, getting a quick pin on Perez after hitting a big boot which sent Perez to the penalty box for a second time as part of the match rules.

Perez managed to get her first point after reversing a Stark Zo-Topia attempt with a pinning combination. With two minutes left, Perez got revenge on her former partner, pinning Jade after hitting a Code Red for her second point which would prove to be the match winner.

James was the only competitor in the women’s match to not score a point while in the men’s match, McDonagh was also unable to pick up a point.

Axiom, Indi Hartwell qualify for Iron Survivor Challenge matches at NXT Deadline

Axiom and Indi Hartwell have qualified for their respective Iron Survivor Challenge matches for this weekend’s NXT Deadline event.

NXT on Tuesday opened with Axiom defeating Von Wagner and Andre Chase after pinning Wagner with the Golden Ratio. Hartwell picked up the win after throwing out Wendy Choo, who hit a Vader bomb on Fallon Henley, then pionned Henley after connecting with a forearm to the back of the head.

With their wins, Axiom will now head into the Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge with Carmelo Hayes, JD McDonagh, Grayson Waller, and Carmelo Hayes. Indi Hartwell joins Zoey Stark, Cora Jade, Kiana James, and Roxanne Perez.

Here is the updated lineup for Saturday’s NXT Deadline:

Shawn Michaels details ‘Iron Survivor Challenge’ matches for NXT Deadline

Shawn Michaels on Tuesday’s NXT revealed a new match concept: the Iron Survivor Challenge.

Michaels announced that a men’s and women’s Iron Survivor Challenge will take place at NXT’s Deadline event on December 10. The winners of those matches will be the new number one contenders for the NXT and NXT Women’s titles.

There will be two matches at Deadline, one for men and one for women. Both matches will consist of five challengers. Two competitors will start, with another competitor entering every five minutes until all five competitors are in the match. The person with the most falls in 25 minutes wins. A pinfall will score a competitor one point, and the person who takes the pinfall has to go into a penalty box for 90 seconds.

It was reported earlier on Tuesday that WWE had filed the trademark “Iron Survivor Challenge” on November 10.

Deadline will be NXT’s final premium live event of the year. It will take place the same day as ROH Final Battle and UFC 282.
