Trios match added to NJPW’s Purge Night of Torture

New Japan’s House of Torture faction is hosting its own event later this month, and now they have added a trios match to that card.

The latest match added to the card is a trios battle. Three members of the House of Torture—Chase Owens & Bad Luck Fale & Yoshinobu Kanemaru—will face Tomohiro Ishii & Masato Tanaka & Ikuto Hidaka. Ishii has spent most of the year splitting time between NJPW and AEW/ROH. Tanaka, a former singles and tag champion in the original ECW, wrestled for ZERO1 in Japan, but in recent years he has done matches with US indie stars such as Bryan Keith, Calvin Tankman, Tom Lawlor, Adam Priest, and Mike Santana. Ikuto Hidaka has spent recent months wrestling for several Japanese indy promotions; he is probably best known for his team with Minoru Fujita, with whom he has won several championships in ZERO1.

Already announced for the show is singles match—EVIL facing Dragongate’s Shun Skywalker—and a tag match pitting House of Torture’s Dick Togo & Ren Narita against a pair of veteran freelancers, HANZO & The Great Sasuke.

Purge Night of Torture takes place on November 19 from Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Here is the lineup for that show:

NJPW Purge Night of Torture (November 19)

  • EVIL vs. Shun Skywalker
  • Chase Owens & Bad Luck Fale & Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs. Tomohiro Ishii & Masato Tanaka & Ikuto Hidaka
  • Dick Togo & Ren Narita vs. The Great Sasuke & HANZO

NJPW Dominion notes: New champions crowned, House of Torture, Hiroshi Tanahashi

New champions and new House of Torture members were crowned on Sunday.

The start of the show saw what became the theme for the night: the House of Torture are stronger than ever. Bad Luck Fale revealed himself as the first new member, renaming himself Don Fale and teaming with Yujiro Takahashi, Ren Narita, and SANADA to defeat Taiji Ishimori, Chase Owens, Clark Connors, and Drilla Moloney. Bullet Club War Dogs lost thanks to Owens, who turned against his teammates and helped House of Torture pick up the win, becoming the second person to join the group.

All of the titles up for grabs on Sunday at Osaka-jo Hall changed hands save for the main event, where Hirooki Goto defeated Shingo Takagi to retain the IWGP World title. The first title change was SHO and the third new member of House of Torture, DOUKI, joining forces for the first time to defeat Master Wato and YOH to win the IWGP Jr. Tag Team titles. DOUKI had been out of action since January, suffering an elbow injury early into his IWGP Jr. title match against El Desperado.

Fale, Owens, and DOUKI all played part in the Dog Collar Chain Deathmatch where EVIL defeated David Finlay, setting up the former IWGP Champion strong heading into the G1 Climax tournament next month.

The IWGP Tag Team titles changed hands next when Taichi and Tomohiro Ishii won the IWGP Tag Team titles, defeating Great-O-Khan and Callum Newman after Taichi hit Black Mephisto on Newman. Boltin Oleg then followed, winning the NEVER Openweight title from Konosuke Takeshita after he hit the kamikaze.

In the co-main event, Gabe Kidd defeated Yota Tsuji to win the IWGP Global Championship for the first time. After the match, he called out Hiroshi Tanahashi, who earlier in the night was successful in defeating Yuya Uemura. The two had a staredown, likely setting up a future title match.

Gates of Agony join House of Torture at NJPW World Tag League show

House of Torture has recruited two new members to help with their cheating ways.

At today’s NJPW World Tag League show in Shizuoka, Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona were offered and accepted a spot in the stable. The invitation comes just before Kaun & Liona are set to wrestle House of Torture’s Yujiro Takahashi & EVIL on Friday’s show.

The opening match on Wednesday’s World Tag League show saw Kaun and Liona team with Yuto Nakashima in a loss to EVIL, Takahashi, and SHO. After the match, EVIL & Takahashi offered the Gates of Agony a handshake and two House of Torture t-shirts, which they accepted.

From NJPW1972.com:

Backstage, Kaun alluded to comments made the night before- ‘You think you know whose house it is- but you’ve gotta go through the gates first’. Kaun said ‘we never said whose house it was. It was the HOUSE OF TORTURE. You want to get in the house, you’ve got to go through the gates first.’

Just what does that mean for these two teams as they meet December 1 in Wakayama?

The Gates of Agony and EVIL & Takahashi sit at the bottom of B Block’s group standings. Both teams have two points and 1-3 records.

‘Tornado Dog Cage Survival Match’ set for NJPW Burning Spirit in Beppu

NJPW has added a stipulation to its next NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championship match.

Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI & YOH will defend their NEVER Six-Man Tag Team titles against EVIL, Yujiro Takahashi & SHO in the first-ever “Tornado Dog Cage Survival Match” at NJPW’s Burning Spirit tour show in Beppu on Sunday, September 18. The show will air live on NJPW World.

NJPW described the stipulation for the match:

For the first time ever, this unique bout will see tornado rules apply- there will be no tags, and submissions and pinfalls can count by anyone on anyone. Additionally, in each of the four sides of the ring at ringside will be a dog cage. Teams can opt to lock an opponent inside one of the four cages to eliminate them from the match. Should all three members of a team be shut in a cage, the match will end.

Goto, YOSHI-HASHI & YOH won the NEVER Six-Man Tag Team titles from EVIL, Yujiro & SHO this July.

The dog cage stipulation for their rematch stems from how that July match played out. After Toru Yano defeated Dick Togo in a dog cage match, the dog cage was used throughout Goto, YOSHI-HASHI & YOH vs. EVIL, Yujiro & SHO. The match ended with SHO being pinned after his House of Torture stablemates were locked in the dog cage.
