A pair of stipulations have been added to Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre’s WWE Championship match at Hell in a Cell.
During a contract signing segment on tonight’s Raw, it was announced that Lashley vs. McIntyre at Hell in a Cell will now be a Hell in a Cell match. The match also now has a stipulation where — if McIntyre loses — he won’t be able to challenge for the WWE Championship again while Lashley is still champion.
The latter stipulation was proposed by Lashley. McIntyre accepted and then said that he wanted their match to take place inside of Hell in a Cell so that there can’t be any outside interference. Lashley agreed to the stipulation.
McIntyre became the number one contender to Lashley’s WWE Championship by defeating Kofi Kingston on Raw last week. McIntyre and Kingston’s number one contender’s match had originally taken place the week prior to that, but Lashley and MVP caused it to end in a no contest by attacking them both.
Lashley has been WWE Champion since defeating The Miz for the title this March. In storyline, Miz and Lashley made a deal where Lashley got that title shot for helping Miz cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase on McIntyre.
Lashley retained the WWE Championship by defeating McIntyre at WrestleMania 37 in April. At WrestleMania Backlash, Lashley defeated Braun Strowman and McIntyre in a triple threat match to retain the title. Lashley pinned Strowman to win that match.
This is the first Hell in a Cell match set for this year’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. The event is taking place on Sunday, June 20.
Here’s the updated card for the PPV:
Hell in a Cell match: WWE Champion Bobby Lashley defends against Drew McIntyre (if McIntyre loses, he can’t challenge for the WWE Championship again while Lashley is still champion)
Raw Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley defends against Charlotte Flair
SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair defends against Bayley
He won the WWE championship tonight at Hell in a Cell, defeating Drew McIntyre. The finish had McIntyre go for a second Claymore kick. When McIntyre went to execute, Orton countered with an RKO, pinning McIntyre for his 14th world championship.
This marks Randy Orton’s tenth WWE championship. He is also a four time World Heavyweight champion.
Drew McIntyre held the WWE championship for 214 days, pinning Brock Lesnar in the main event of the second night of WrestleMania 36.
This is the third time McIntyre and Orton have clashed in recent months. McIntyre won their first match at SummerSlam with a roll-up. The following month at Clash of Champions, McIntyre won an ambulance match with help from names Randy Orton had laid out in the months prior to the event — Ric Flair, Christian, Big Show, and Shawn Michaels.
The following night on Raw, Randy Orton retaliated, laying everyone out with a steel chair attack, which set up tonight’s Hell in a Cell match.
Sasha Banks defeated Bayley to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship tonight at WWE Hell in a Cell.
Banks, competing in her third Cell match, submitted Bayley with a Bank Statement as Bayley’s head and neck were trapped in a steel chair, a callback to earlier in their feud where Bayley turned on Banks and caused a storyline neck injury in a similar manner.
The bout also featured an homage to the pair’s NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn match from August 2015. Just as she did in Brooklyn, Banks stomped on Bayley’s hand to keep her from grabbing the bottom rope in an effort to escape the Bank Statement.
With the win, Banks joins Asuka and Bayley as women’s division Grand Slam Champions, having held the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles as well as the NXT, Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships.
Banks, 28, also joins Charlotte Flair, Asuka and Bayley as the only women to hold the Raw, SmackDown and NXT Women’s titles.
This reign also marks the seventh singles title reign in WWE for Banks, tying her with Trish Stratus for second most in company history, trailing only Flair.
With the defeat, Bayley’s second reign as SmackDown Women’s Champion came to an end at 380 days, a record for the championship.
A new Mr. Money in the Bank was crowned tonight following the breakup of Heavy Machinery.
The Miz gained control of the Money in the Bank contract by defeating Otis at tonight’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. The Miz got the win after Tucker turned against Otis and hit him with the Money in the Bank briefcase.
The Miz and John Morrison were interviewed backstage after tonight’s match. Miz said he’s putting the WWE Champion and Universal Champion on notice. Miz said they won’t know when, how, or where — but he’s going to cash in the contract successfully.
Tucker walked up during the interview and told Miz this isn’t about him. Tucker said he and Otis were supposed to be a team, but Tucker was the workhorse and carried the load. Tucker said he did everything for Otis and treated him like a brother, but Tucker was always an afterthought. Tucker said Otis can’t function without him. Otis then attacked Tucker until he ran away.
Otis putting the Money in the Bank contract on the line against Miz tonight was announced at the conclusion of a series of “Law & Otis” segments on this past Friday’s SmackDown. JBL was the judge for the segments and was initially going to rule in Otis’ favor, but he then changed his mind after being bribed by Miz. In storyline, Miz had filed a lawsuit against Otis to try and take the Money in the Bank contract from him.
Tucker was drafted to Raw in the WWE Draft earlier this month. Otis remained on SmackDown. Miz and Morrison were also drafted by Raw.
This is the second time Miz has held the Money in the Bank contract in his career. In 2010, Miz cashed the briefcase in to win his first WWE Championship.
Date: October 25, 2020 Location: Amway Center in Orlando, FL
Show Recap —
KICK-OFF SHOW
The kickoff panel featured Charly Caruso, Jerry Lawler, Booker T, Jeff Jarrett, and Peter Rosenberg.
Kayla Braxton interviewed Paul Heyman and asked what would happen if Jey Uso won. Heyman told her to take the hype out of her voice. He basically said Jey would become Roman Reigns’ indentured servant. He also mentioned Reigns’s having a quest to become the greatest superstar ever.
Rosenberg and Lawler went down to the ring inside the cell to talk about the dangers of Hell in a Cell matches. Lawler recalled Mick Foley falling from the cell.
Jeff Hardy told Sarah Schrieber that he has made plenty of mistakes but he’s owned up to every mistake and is proud of who he is. Hardy did not hit Elias with that car and hoped they catch whoever did. The only thing Elias should be worried about is the Twist of Fate.
R-Truth interrupted the panel. He thought Jarrett was Road Dogg. Booker wondered if Truth thought he was Kofi Kingston. Truth knew who he was but still thought Jarrett was Road Dogg.
Elias interrupted them next. He still thinks Hardy is the one who ran him down. Booker wanted to know when Elias was coming to perform in Houston. Jarrett noted how ridiculous Elias’ accusation of Hardy was. Elias did a quick performance where he claimed anyone named Jeff (including Jarrett) must be a junkie. Booker was amused.
Miz and Morrison joined the panel to yell about Otis. Caruso asked them what evidence they presented JBL to sway his decision but they didn’t answer.
R-Truth defeated Drew Gulak to retain the 24/7 Championship (5:23)
The match started with “comedy.” Gulak pretended to high five little Jimmy before kicking him, so Truth attacked. Truth did John Cena’s comeback and eventually won with a jackknife cover.
Akira Tozawa and Lucha House Party chased after Truth. Gulak went to the panel to say that Truth’s childhood hero John Cena sucks.
Mustafa Ali cut a promo backstage with Retribution behind him. Ali had a challenge for Hurt Business: one of them against one of theirs. It was up to MVP to decide who would fall.
Caruso announced that Reigns vs. Uso would open the show.
HELL IN A CELL MAIN SHOW
Between the show intro and opening match video package (which we just saw at the end of the pre-show) it was 7:08pm by the time Jey Uso’s music hit and 7:15pm by the time the match started.
Hell in a Cell “I Quit” match: Roman Reigns defeated Jey Uso to retain the WWE Universal Championship (29:09)
Reigns wore a gold glove on his right hand (contrasting the black wrist band on his left arm).
Reigns hit a shoulder block and Michael Cole said he established early dominance (one minute into the match). Reigns followed with a series of clotheslines but Jey came back with strikes and consecutive suicide dives into the side of the cell. Jey said “shit” as he rammed Reigns repeatedly into the cell. They tried to bleep it but missed the mark.
Jey set him up for something in the ring but Reigns speared him. Reigns went to the outside where Jey caught him with a dropkick but Reigns clocked him with a right hand (with the gold glove) and hit another spear.
Reigns tried another one but Jey gave him a superkick and consecutive Uso splashes. The referee checked on Reigns who did not quit. Jey grabbed a leather strap as Heyman pleaded with him not to use it. Jey whipped Reigns in the back three times. Reigns actually got up after the third shot and speared Jey for the third time. Jey said he couldn’t breathe but refused to quit.
Reigns repeatedly whipped Jey with the strap. Reigns tied the strap to Jey’s arm and whipped him again as loud booing played. Jey came back with fists and a superkick.
Jey wrapped the strap around Reigns’ neck and pulled back. Reigns seemed to pass out for a moment before waking up. Reigns passed out again as the ref checked on him. Jey asked the ref if he quit. Reigns shook his head.
Jey grabbed a chair but Reigns nailed him with a superman punch. Reigns applied a guillotine and Jey passed out. Heyman implored Jey to quit. Jey was out so Reigns let go of the hold. The ref told Jey all he had to do was say the words but Jey didn’t acknowledge him.
Reigns warned Jey what was coming. Reigns used a drive-by dropkick but Jey still wouldn’t say anything. Reigns then placed the steel steps beside Jey’s head before doing another drive-by. The ref was basically begging Jey to quit. Jey wouldn’t quit, not because he refused, but because he was basically dead.
The ref was about to call the match over but Reigns grabbed him and chucked him out of the ring. Another ref ran down to check on the first ref. Adam Pearce, Jamie Noble, and a few other officials ran down to stop Reigns from doing any more.
Reigns closed the cell door and chucked the steel steps in the ring, which caused all of the officials to flee the ring.
Reigns taunted Jey before lifting up the steps to finally kill Jey. Jimmy Uso jumped in the ring to protect Jey. Reigns dropped the steps. Jimmy asked Reigns what was wrong with him and said they could work through this. As Jimmy pleaded with Reigns, Reigns become emotional and dropped to his knees.
Jimmy thought he got through to Reigns, but Reigns put him in the guillotine choke. Jey tried to help before eventually saying “I quit” to save Jimmy. Reigns wins.
Reigns made his way up the ramp where he was greeted by Afa and Sika. They congratulated him and embraced him. Reigns posed with the title as the Usos looked on.
Elias defeated Jeff Hardy via DQ (7:50)
Elias did a quick performance about Hardy being a drunk.
Hardy set up for the Swanton Bomb but Elias rolled to the outside. Hardy was on top of the ring post and I thought he might do a senton to the outside but, fortunately, he didn’t. Unfortunately, he instead went outside, grabbed the guitar away from Elias and smashed him in the back with it for the DQ.
Otis did a quick interview with Braxton. He’s angry with Miz.
There’s a new (I think) video board behind the announcers that allows them to display sponsors.
The Miz (w/John Morrison) defeated Otis (w/Tucker) to win the Money in the Bank contract (7:27)
Cole said this was the second match ever where Mr. Money in the Bank could lose the contract. He didn’t mention what the first match was (Edge beating Mr. Kennedy).
John Morrison was about to hit Otis with the briefcase but the ref saw him and tossed him out. Miz was distracted so Otis used a schoolboy for two. Otis followed with a discus clothesline for a nearfall.
As Otis came off the ropes, Tucker nailed him with the briefcase. Miz was shocked. Miz covered Otis for the win. Miz is the new Mr. Money in the Bank. He celebrated with the briefcase.
Braxton caught up to Miz and Morrison backstage. They were very happy. Braxton said he won at the expense of the friendship of Otis and Tucker. Miz didn’t care and spoke about the importance of the briefcase. He said he has cashed in before and will again.
Tucker showed up. Braxton asked why he betrayed Otis. Tucker said they were supposed to be a team but he carried the workload. He treated Otis like a brother but felt like an afterthought. It was all about Otis getting the spotlight but Otis couldn’t function without him.
Otis ran in and ran over Miz and Morrison. He briefly got his hands on Tucker who ran off. The post-match angle was pretty good.
Hell in a Cell match: Sasha Banks defeated Bayley to win the Smackdown Women’s Championship (26:32)
Bayley brought a chair with her to the ring and tried to use it on Banks as the cell lowered but Banks kicked it out of her hands which cause it to fall outside the cell. Of course, Bayley still has access to everything under the ring.
Bayley introduced a kendo stick but Banks stopped her from using it and set up a table. Bayley tried putting the table away but Banks used it to drive Bayley into the side of the cage. Banks followed with a Meteora into the cell and a diving Meteora in the ring for two.
They fought back-and-forth until Banks dropkicked Bayley into the steel steps. Banks suspended a kendo stick between the steps and cage but Bayley fought her off and used a drop toe hold to send Banks into the stick. Bayley also used a catapult into the sticks before sliding her into the ring for two.
Bayley taunted Banks by saying, “Boss in the cell, huh? Boss my ass!” Banks gave her a sunset flip powerbomb into the side of the cell for a two count. Banks tried a crossface using the chair but Bayley dropped her face-first on the chair.
Bayley followed shortly after with a running sunset flip powerbomb into a chair that was lodged between the ropes for a close nearfall. (This looked painful for Banks.) Bayley hit a flying elbow drop for two. Bayley put Banks between the ring and the ring skirt and nailed her with a kendo stick.
Bayley grabbed duct tape and attempted to tape two kendo sticks together before placing them between the ring and cell. It didn’t look good. She seemed to complain to the announcers because it didn’t work. All that time spent allowed Banks to spray her in the face with a fire extinguisher. Bayley wanted to leave the cell but a referee wouldn’t let her.
Banks attacked and drove her into the cell before using another running knee strike against the cell. Banks repeatedly hit Bayley with a kendo stick in the ring. Banks hit a frog splash but Bayley placed a chair between them, so they were both hurt. Bayley slammed Banks on the black mats which led to a two count.
Bayley grabbed a ladder and suspended it on top of two chairs. She slammed Banks on it and spraypainted an X on her. Bayley came off the top with a chair but Banks moved and used a double knee strike in the corner followed by a Bayley-to-belly on the ladder for a nearfall. Bayley came back with a Bayley-to-belly of her own for a nearfall.
Bayley tried another suplex using the chair but Banks countered into a crossface, with the chair wrapped around Bayley’s head. Bayley tapped out. Banks wins. Banks took a long look at Bayley before accepting the title belt from the referee.
Very good match. This was also way more of a “Hell in a Cell” match than the opener, which could have just been an I Quit match without the cell.
Backstage, Caruso asked MVP who he chose to represent them tonight. She was smart enough to notice that Bobby Lashley was the only one dressed to compete. She asked who they chose from Retribution to fight him.
Shelton Benjamin suggested the guy with the funny mask. Cedric Alexander and MVP acted confused. Benjamin clarified that he meant Slapjack. MVP said it should be one-on-one with no cornermen. Lashley also offered to put the US title on the line. Lashley was tired of the talk and made his way to the ring.
Bobby Lashley defeated Slapjack to retain the United States Championship (3:51)
Slapjack got a fair amount of offense but Lashley retained with a Hurt Lock.
T-Bar and Mace immediately attacked Lashley after the match as Ali directed. Lashley fought back which left Ali alone in the ring as the rest of Hurt Business ran down. Ali bailed. Retribution (including Mia Yim) left ringside as Ali stared down Hurt Business.
They played the ominous cage/cell match music (with a pyro display) for the upcoming match as if we haven’t seen two cell matches already.
Hell in a Cell match: Randy Orton defeated Drew McIntyre to win the WWE Championship (30:35)
Even though the champions came out last in the previous two cell matches, McIntyre came out first here for some reason. That reason, of course, is they had an angle.
Orton (dressed in black pants and hoodie) tried to sneak attack McIntyre during his entrance but McIntyre caught him and attacked him around ringside. McIntyre tossed him in the ring, closed the door, and they started the match.
McIntyre was in full control early in the match, tossing Orton around and using a chair. McIntyre tried throwing the steel steps at Orton but he dodged it. (McIntyre would have missed worse than Kenley Jansen anyway.) McIntyre set up for a Claymore Kick but Orton moved and hit him in the leg with the chair before driving it into his previously injured jaw.
Orton took over from there, targeting McIntyre’s jaw. Orton cut off a brief comeback attempt with a thumb to the eye and pushed McIntyre into the steep steps. They traded strikes in the ring but again Orton got the better of it and used a backbreaker.
They traded strikes again and McIntyre fired up with clotheslines, overhead suplexes and a neckbreaker. Orton tried to fight back on the outside but McIntyre suplexed him through a table that was sitting against the cell. This prompted a “this is awesome” chant to be played.
McIntyre was going back in the ring but Orton kicked the rope into his groin and used a draping DDT for just a one count.
Orton grabbed bolt cutters and Byron Saxton said, “oh my god” like he was up to no good. Orton used them to cut the cage door open so he could leave.
McIntyre went after him but Orton got the better of it and drove him into the cage. Orton looked around and decided to climb to the top of the cell. McIntyre followed. Orton kindly waited for him to safely climb to the top.
Turns out, Orton had a plan. He grabbed a lead pipe that was on top of the cage but McIntyre ducked a strike and fought back. McIntyre posed which allowed Orton to hit him low with the pipe.
Orton began climbing down the cell, so McIntyre followed. It was hard to tell with the camera angle but McIntyre tried something and ended up falling off the side of the cage and crashed through the announce table. They didn’t show a replay because it looked like McIntyre simply just fell off the cell.
McIntyre came up bleeding from the mouth. (This was visually similar to Finn Bálor at Takeover but probably fake this time.) They eventually made their way to the ring as McIntyre sold a lot. Orton went for an RKO but McIntyre countered and hit a Claymore. Orton fell out of the ring so McIntyre pushed him back into the ring.
McIntyre went for another Claymore but Orton ducked and hit an RKO for the pinfall win. Orton is the new champion.
This wasn’t as good as the two previous cell matches. It doesn’t help that we’ve seen these two wrestle a lot and this was the third cell match within three hours. Also, it felt like McIntyre simply lost this match fair and square. The Bayley/Banks match probably should have gone last.
The 24/7 title will be on the line on tonight’s Hell in a Cell pre-show.
WWE announced this afternoon that 24/7 Champion R-Truth will defend his title against Drew Gulak on the Hell in a Cell pre-show tonight:
R-Truth will bring his baby to the WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff Show, as he takes on Drew Gulak.

Tonight’s pre-show will begin at 6 p.m. Eastern time. The Hell in Cell main card starts at 7 p.m. Eastern.
Gulak officially joined the Raw roster in the WWE Draft earlier this month but had been involved in the 24/7 title picture before then, first winning the championship at Clash of Champions last month.
With the addition of the pre-show match, there are now six matches announced for Hell in a Cell. Here’s the updated card for the show:
Universal Champion Roman Reigns defends against Jey Uso in a Hell in a Cell I Quit match

Jeff Hardy vs. Elias

24/7 Champion R-Truth defends against Drew Gulak (pre-show)
The stakes are set for Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso at Hell in a Cell.
Reigns is defending his Universal Championship against Uso in a Hell in a Cell I Quit match at Sunday’s pay-per-view. In the main event segment of tonight’s go-home episode of SmackDown, WWE revealed the additional consequences for the match.
Reigns announced that if Uso loses at Hell in a Cell, Uso will have to fall in line, take orders, and acknowledge Reigns and respect him for all he does for their family. If Uso isn’t able to do that, then Uso, his brother Jimmy, their wives, their children, and generations to come will all be out of the Samoan Dynasty.
If Reigns loses on Sunday, he’ll no longer be Universal Champion and will no longer be the head of the table in their family.
Uso had attacked Reigns prior to the consequences for their Hell in a Cell match being revealed tonight. After Reigns came out for the segment, the video screen showed what appeared to be Uso in Reigns’ VIP lounge. But it was revealed to be a diversion, with Jimmy Uso pretending to be Jey so that Jey could attack Reigns.
Here’s the updated card for Sunday’s PPV:
Universal Champion Roman Reigns defends against Jey Uso in a Hell in a Cell I Quit match
WWE Champion Drew McIntyre defends against Randy Orton in a Hell in a Cell match
SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley defends against Sasha Banks in a Hell in a Cell match
Jeff Hardy vs. Elias
Otis defends his Money in the Bank contract against The Miz
Otis’ Money in the Bank contract will be on the line at Sunday’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.
It was announced on SmackDown tonight that Otis will defend his Money in the Bank contract against The Miz at Hell in a Cell on Sunday. The announcement was made at the end of a series of “Law & Otis” segments where Otis represented himself in court and was trying to stop Miz from taking the Money in the Bank briefcase from him.
JBL was the judge for Law & Otis. He was about to rule in Otis’ favor, but he then announced the match for Sunday after being paid off by The Miz.
In storyline, The Miz filed the lawsuit against Otis last month after Otis attacked Miz & John Morrison during a Dirt Sheet segment and tore off Miz’s suit jacket, pants, and shirt. That came after Miz used his influence with the USA Network and Fox to have Mandy Rose moved to Raw and have her separated from Otis.
Rose, Miz, Morrison, and Otis’ tag team partner Tucker were selected by Raw in the WWE Draft. Otis remained on SmackDown.
There are now five matches announced for Sunday’s Hell in a Cell PPV. Here’s the updated card:
Universal Champion Roman Reigns defends against Jey Uso in a Hell in a Cell I Quit match
WWE Champion Drew McIntyre defends against Randy Orton in a Hell in a Cell match
SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley defends against Sasha Banks in a Hell in a Cell match
Jeff Hardy vs. Elias
Otis defends his Money in the Bank contract against The Miz
After being set up last night, Bayley vs. Sasha Banks is now official for Hell in a Cell.
It was confirmed on this week’s episode of Talking Smack that Bayley will defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Banks in a Hell in a Cell match at this month’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. The PPV is taking place on Sunday, October 25.
Bayley got herself disqualified in a title match against Banks by using a steel chair on last night’s SmackDown. Bayley went to attack Banks with the chair after the match, but Banks fought her off and attacked Bayley with the chair herself. Banks put Bayley’s head in the chair and was going to stomp on it like Bayley previously did to her, but Bayley got away before Banks could.
Later in last night’s show, Banks cut a promo challenging Bayley for Hell in a Cell.
Bayley turned against Banks after they lost a Women’s Tag Team title match against champions Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax last month.
This will be the third women’s Hell in a Cell match in WWE history. Banks also took part in the first two, losing to Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch. Bayley tweeted today: “My back is freakin done for. And that dumbass Sasha Banks thinks it’s a good idea to lock us inside Hell in a Cell. Well I guarantee I’m going to do what Becky and Charlotte couldn’t do, I’m ending Sasha for good. #SmackDown #HIAC”
Here’s the updated card for Hell in a Cell:
Universal Champion Roman Reigns defends against Jey Uso in a Hell in a Cell I Quit match
WWE Champion Drew McIntyre defends against Randy Orton in a Hell in a Cell match
SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley defends against Sasha Banks in a Hell in a Cell match
It appears that the SmackDown Women’s Championship will be on the line inside of Hell in a Cell later this month.
After their SmackDown Women’s Championship match tonight ended in a disqualification, Sasha Banks cut a promo challenging Bayley to a Hell in a Cell match for the title at this month’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. Bayley retained her title against Banks on SmackDown tonight by getting herself disqualified for using a steel chair.
Bayley tried to attack Banks with the chair after tonight’s match, but Banks fought her off and used the chair herself. Banks put Bayley’s head inside of the chair and was going to stomp on it like Bayley did to her last month, but Bayley got away before Banks could do it.
In her promo tonight, Banks called Bayley a coward and challenged her to a Hell in a Cell match. Banks said she’s going to take the one thing Bayley loves most — the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
This would be the third women’s Hell in a Cell match in WWE history. Banks has also taken part in the first two, losing to Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch.
Banks stayed on SmackDown in tonight’s WWE Draft. Bayley is part of the night two draft pool and is eligible to be selected by SmackDown or Raw when the draft concludes on Monday.
Hell in a Cell is taking place on Sunday, October 25. Here’s what’s been announced for the PPV thus far:
Universal Champion Roman Reigns defends against Jey Uso in a Hell in a Cell I Quit match
WWE Champion Drew McIntyre defends against Randy Orton in a Hell in a Cell match
A new stipulation is set for Roman Reigns and Jey Uso’s Hell in a Cell match.
WWE announced tonight that Reigns will defend his Universal Championship against Uso in the first-ever Hell in a Cell I Quit match later this month. It’s taking place at WWE’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view on Sunday, October 25.
Reigns retained his Universal Championship against Uso at Clash of Champions last month but wasn’t happy that Uso refused to acknowledge him as the Tribal Chief. On SmackDown last week, Reigns said he’d give Uso another shot at the title. Reigns told Uso that the match will have “the highest stakes that any match has ever had in WWE history.” Uso said that — whatever the stakes are — he accepts the challenge.
Reigns warned Uso on SmackDown tonight that — after Uso says I Quit — there will be consequences.
Reigns and Uso both remained on SmackDown in tonight’s WWE Draft.
Ahead of Hell in a Cell, Reigns will defend the Universal Championship against Braun Strowman on SmackDown’s season premiere episode next Friday.
Drew McIntyre defending his WWE Championship against Randy Orton in a Hell in a Cell match is also set for this month’s Hell in a Cell PPV. Sasha Banks has also challenged SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley to a Hell in a Cell match for the title.
Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton’s next title match will take place inside of Hell in a Cell.
WWE announced tonight that McIntyre will defend his WWE Championship against Orton in a Hell in a Cell match at this month’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. The PPV is taking place on Sunday, October 25.
Tonight’s Raw opened with Orton cutting a promo backstage and addressing his attack on Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Big Show, and Christian from last week. Orton said McIntyre still has hell to pay. He challenged McIntyre to a Hell in a Cell match, telling McIntyre that he can cement his legacy if he survives one more WWE Championship match against Orton. McIntyre then attacked Orton and beat him down until officials broke things up.
McIntyre did an interview later on tonight’s Raw accepting Orton’s challenge.
McIntyre retained his WWE Championship against Orton at both SummerSlam and Clash of Champions. At SummerSlam, McIntyre pinned Orton with a backslide. McIntyre defeated Orton in an ambulance match at Clash of Champions. Michaels, Big Show, and Christian all got involved during the match, and McIntyre won after hitting a Claymore and a punt. Flair drove off in the ambulance after McIntyre closed the doors.
This is the second match to be confirmed for Hell in a Cell. Roman Reigns will defend his Universal Championship against Jey Uso in a Hell in a Cell match at the PPV. It’s been set up that Reigns vs. Uso will have “the highest stakes that any match has ever had in WWE history,” but the details of that haven’t been revealed.
After being set up on SmackDown last night, Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso is now official for Hell in a Cell.
It was confirmed on this week’s episode of Talking Smack that Reigns will defend his Universal Championship against Uso in a Hell in a Cell match at this month’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. It was said on SmackDown that the match will have “the highest stakes that any match has ever had in WWE history,” but those stakes haven’t been revealed.
Reigns retained his Universal Championship against Uso in the main event of Clash of Champions this past Sunday. As Reigns was beating down Uso at the end of the match and demanding that Uso acknowledge him as the Tribal Chief, Jimmy Uso threw in the towel for his brother. Reigns had given Jey a low blow during the match when kicking out of a pinfall attempt.
A ceremony to officially crown Reigns as the Tribal Chief kicked off last night’s SmackDown. Reigns called Jey out to the ring and was still taking exception to not being acknowledged by him. Reigns pointed out that Jey was looking at his title during the segment and asked if he wanted another shot. Reigns told Jey there would be real consequences to their match this time. Jey said that — whatever the stakes are — he accepts the challenge.
Jey also defeated AJ Styles on SmackDown last night.
Reigns vs. Jey is the first match to be announced for Hell in a Cell. The PPV is taking place on Sunday, October 25.
Jey Uso is getting another shot at the Universal Championship — this time in a Hell in a Cell match.
WWE set up on SmackDown tonight that Roman Reigns will defend his Universal Championship against Uso in a Hell in a Cell match at this month’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. Reigns said the match will have “the highest stakes that any match has ever had in WWE history,” but what those stakes are haven’t been revealed.
Uso said that — whatever the stakes are — he accepts the challenge. Uso then defeated AJ Styles on SmackDown tonight after Styles confronted him.
After Reigns retained his Universal title against Uso at Clash of Champions this past Sunday, Reigns and Paul Heyman opened tonight’s SmackDown. Heyman was hosting a ceremony to crown Reigns as the Tribal Chief, but Reigns said he doesn’t want Heyman to call him that. Reigns brought up that Uso refused to acknowledge him as the Tribal Chief. He then called Jey out to the ring.
Uso said Reigns showed his true colors at Clash of Champions. Reigns may have beaten his ass, but he didn’t break Uso’s spirit. Uso said the Universal title would be his if his brother Jimmy Uso didn’t throw in the towel.
Reigns said Clash of Champions was the worst night of his career. He was trying to do Uso a favor and put him in the main event. Reigns said all Uso had to do was acknowledge him as the Tribal Chief, but he instead disrespected Reigns, embarrassed him, and embarrassed their whole family. Reigns pointed out that Uso was looking at his title and asked if he wanted another shot. Reigns told Uso there would be real consequences to their match this time.
It was said on commentary that Reigns vs. Uso will take place inside of Hell in a Cell. The PPV is taking place on Sunday, October 25.
“The Hell in a Cell PPV that was scheduled for 11/1 has been moved up a week to 10/25, meaning the day after both Impact Bound for Glory and Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Justin Gaethje in UFC,” Meltzer wrote.
WWE’s contract for their residency at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida runs through the end of October “unless mutually agreed upon in writing to either extend or shorten end date with at least two weeks’ notice.”
WWE previously didn’t have an October PPV on its schedule for this year. Prior to Hell in a Cell being moved up a week, Hell in a Cell and Survivor Series had both been set for November.
The next WWE PPV will be Clash of Champions on Sunday, September 27. That show was originally scheduled for September 20 but was moved back a week. Following SummerSlam and Payback, it will be WWE’s third PPV to take place at the Amway Center with the WWE ThunderDome.
