Undertaker now facing Chris Jericho at WWE Greatest Royal Rumble

The Undertaker is still set to wrestle in a casket match at the Greatest Royal Rumble, but it won’t be against Rusev.

WWE announced a change to the card this afternoon, with Chris Jericho replacing Rusev in the match. This will be the first singles meeting between Undertaker and Jericho since 2010.

WWE had Lana send out a tweet before announcing Undertaker’s new opponent: “All over the world, little boys and girls are celebrating #RusevDay, they smile for the greatest Superstar ever ! I’ve already spoke with @WWE officials to change that match because I REFUSE to let my husband @RusevBUL compete in a Casket Match at #WWEGRR! Happy #RusevDay”

Rusev and Lana also did an interview with TMZ Sports where they hyped up the casket match prior to it being changed. Michelle McCool then responded to TMZ’s headline for the article, which wasn’t a direct quote from them: “Had to listen to see if ‘crush his old a$$’ was ACTUALLY said! Guess some people are smarter than others…”

The Greatest Royal Rumble takes place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on April 27th and will air live on the WWE Network. Here’s the updated card:

  • 50-man Greatest Royal Rumble match
  • Universal Champion Brock Lesnar defending against Roman Reigns in a steel cage match
  • John Cena vs. Triple H
  • The Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho in a casket match
  • Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins defending against The Miz, Finn Balor, and Samoa Joe in a ladder match
  • Cesaro & Sheamus vs. either Matt Hardy & Bray Wyatt or The Revival for the vacant Raw Tag Team titles
  • SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Bludgeon Brothers defending against The Usos
  • WWE, United States, and Cruiserweight Championship matches that have yet to be revealed

Undertaker-Rusev casket match set for WWE Greatest Royal Rumble

After squashing John Cena at WrestleMania 34, The Undertaker already has his next match scheduled.

WWE announced today that Undertaker vs. Rusev in a casket match is set for the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia on Friday, April 27th.. The show is taking place at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah and will air live on the WWE Network at noon Eastern time.

Despite seemingly retiring last year, The Undertaker pinned Cena in under three minutes on Sunday. Part of the story for the match was that it wasn’t officially announced in advance, with Cena repeatedly calling Undertaker out in the build to WrestleMania.

The Greatest Royal Rumble is the first event in WWE’s ten-year agreement with the Saudi General Sports Authority. The updated card is listed below:

  • 50-man Greatest Royal Rumble match
  • Universal Champion Brock Lesnar defending against Roman Reigns in a steel cage match
  • John Cena vs. Triple H
  • The Undertaker vs. Rusev in a casket match

Bludgeon Brothers set to face Usos at WWE Greatest Royal Rumble

Another title match has been set for the Greatest Royal Rumble.

The Usos defeated The New Day to become the number one contenders for the SmackDown tag team titles, with Jey hitting a splash on Woods for the win. It was announced shortly thereafter that they would be facing the Bludgeon Brothers at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. After the match, the Bludgeon Brothers came out and pointed their hammers at the Usos, signaling that they were next.

The Greatest Royal Rumble looks to be just as stacked as any recent giant WWE card, as it will sport seven title matches along with a first ever 50 man Royal Rumble bout. Title matches already announced include Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns in a steel cage for the Universal title, Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor vs. The Miz vs. Samoa Joe in a ladder match for the Intercontinental title and Cesaro and Sheamus vs. the winners of a upcoming Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy vs. The Revival bout on Raw next week. John Cena vs. Triple H is another bout that has been confirmed.

The event will take place on April 27 at the King Abdullah International Stadium. It will air live on the WWE Network at noon EDT.

Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle set for WWE Greatest Royal Rumble

The build to the Greatest Royal Rumble has picked up now that WrestleMania weekend has come to an end.

WWE announced today that Chris Jericho and Kurt Angle will both be taking part in the 50-man Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia. All three members of the New Day, Baron Corbin, Apollo, Shelton Benjamin, Chad Gable, Sin Cara, Elias, Goldust, Titus O’Neil, Mojo Rawley, and Dolph Ziggler have also been confirmed for the match.

Though he briefly appeared on Raw’s 25th anniversary episode earlier this year, this will be the first time Jericho has wrestled for WWE since last July. He faced Kenny Omega at the Tokyo Dome for New Japan Pro Wrestling in January and set up a future match against Tetsuya Naito the next night, but that has yet to be followed up on.

The 15 new additions join Daniel Bryan, Big Show, Kane, Braun Strowman, and Bray Wyatt as entrants in the Royal Rumble match.

New Raw Tag Team Champions will be crowned at the Greatest Royal Rumble as well. Braun Strowman & Nicholas vacated the titles last night, with Angle announcing that Cesaro & Sheamus would face the winners of a tag team eliminator tournament to decide the next champions. Matt Hardy & Bray Wyatt will take on The Revival next week in the finals of the mini tournament.

Brock Lesnar defending the Universal Championship against Roman Reigns in a steel cage match, John Cena vs. Triple H, and Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins defending against The Miz, Finn Balor, and Samoa Joe in a ladder match have also been announced for the Greatest Royal Rumble. All seven men’s titles will be defended, but no women’s wrestlers will be on the show.

The Greatest Royal Rumble will stream live on the WWE Network at noon Eastern time on Friday, April 27th.

Raw tag team titles to be decided at The Greatest Royal Rumble

On a backstage segment on Raw, Braun Strowman and his partner Nicholas relinquished the WWE Raw tag team titles, citing Nicholas’ scheduling commitments to school.

The Bar (Sheamus and Cesaro) attempted to simply get the titles they lost at WrestleMania back, but general manager Kurt Angle announced two matches would take place on Raw with the winning teams advancing to a match on Raw next week. The winner next week will face The Bar at The Greatest Royal Rumble for the titles on Friday, April 27th.

In the first match, The Revival defeated Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows after hitting the Shatter Machine on Anderson for the pin. In the second match, Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt teamed up to defeat Titus O’Neil and Apollo after hitting Sister Abigail into the Twist of Fate.

The Greatest Royal Rumble is a WWE Network special airing live from Saudi Arabia, headlined by a 50-man Royal Rumble, Universal Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns in a steel cage match, John Cena vs. Triple H, and more. Originally, The Bar was set to defend the tag titles against Matt and Jeff Hardy on the show.

Brock Lesnar re-signs with WWE, set for Greatest Royal Rumble

After he retained the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 34, WWE officially announced that Brock Lesnar has re-signed with the company.

“WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon announced today that Universal Champion Brock Lesnar has re-signed with WWE,” a press release stated. It also revealed that Lesnar will be appearing at the company’s Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia later this month, where he’ll be defending his title against Roman Reigns in a rematch from WrestleMania.

WWE didn’t disclose the length of Lesnar’s new deal or financial terms for it.

Lesnar vs. Reigns at the Greatest Royal Rumble will be a steel cage match. The show takes place at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah on April 27th and will air live on the WWE Network. A 50-man Royal Rumble match (with Daniel Bryan, Big Show, Kane, Braun Strowman, and Bray Wyatt confirmed for it), John Cena vs. Triple H, and six other men’s title matches are also set for the show.

What Lesnar re-signing means for his potential mixed martial arts future remains to be seen. Before WrestleMania, Dana White claimed that Lesnar would be coming back to the UFC but said he didn’t know when that would be.

Daniel Bryan, four more set for WWE Greatest Royal Rumble match

While most of the focus is on WrestleMania 34, that hasn’t stopped WWE from making announcements for the company’s second-biggest event of this month.

It was announced this morning that Daniel Bryan, Big Show, Braun Strowman, Bray Wyatt, and Kane will be entrants in WWE’s 50-man Greatest Royal Rumble match that will be taking place at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Friday, April 27th. They’re the first five wrestlers set for the match.

This is Bryan’s second confirmed match since being cleared to return by WWE, with him teaming with Shane McMahon against Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn on Sunday. The Rumble could be Big Show’s return to the ring after undergoing hip resurfacing surgery last year and dealing with a surgical infection after the operation.

It has also finally been confirmed that the Greatest Royal Rumble will be airing live on the WWE Network. It is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. local time in Jeddah, which is noon Eastern in the United States.

John Cena vs. Triple H, Intercontinental Champion The Miz defending against Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, and Samoa Joe in a ladder match, and The Hardys challenging for Cesaro & Sheamus’ Raw Tag Team titles are currently scheduled for the Greatest Royal Rumble as well. All seven men’s titles will be on the line, but no women’s wrestlers will be on the card.

The show is the first in WWE’s ten-year agreement with the Saudi General Sports Authority.

Cena vs. HHH, two more matches set for WWE Greatest Royal Rumble

The card for WWE’s Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia is starting to take shape.

Three matches for the show were announced this morning: John Cena vs. Triple H in their first singles meeting since 2010, a four-way Intercontinental Championship ladder match that features The Miz, Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, and Samoa Joe, and Raw Tag Team Champions Cesaro & Sheamus defending their titles against The Hardys. Both Jeff Hardy and Joe have yet to return from their respective injuries, but that’s considered to be imminent.

The Miz vs. Rollins vs. Balor at WrestleMania 34 will decide who enters the Greatest Royal Rumble as IC Champion. Braun Strowman and a partner will also be challenging for Cesaro & Sheamus’ titles at WrestleMania.

The Greatest Royal Rumble takes place at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on April 27th (at noon Eastern time) and is the first event in WWE’s ten-year agreement with the Saudi General Sports Authority. A 50-man Royal Rumble match is the event’s marquee attraction, with all seven men’s titles also set to be defended. There will be no women’s wrestlers on the show, but female fans are allowed to attend.

WWE still notes that broadcast information will be made available in the coming weeks, but it’s been indicated that the Greatest Royal Rumble will be shown on the WWE Network. It’s already been announced to air live on Sky Box Office in the UK and Main Event in Australia.

WWE made the following announcement regarding tickets for the show: “Tickets for this historic event are available this Saturday, March 31, at 12 midnight AST via ticketingboxoffice.com. Tickets will also be available at 10 a.m. AST at Virgin stores throughout Saudi Arabia. Ticket prices start at 20 SAR.”

WWE’s Greatest Royal Rumble to feature seven title matches

WWE continues to make announcements regarding next month’s Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia.

We now have a better idea of what the card will look like, with WWE advertising that there will be seven title matches on the show. The WWE, Universal, Intercontinental, United States, and Cruiserweight Championships will be on the line, along with the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team titles. It’s notable that neither Women’s Championship is mentioned in that list.

The event’s marquee attraction is the 50-man Greatest Royal Rumble match, so it appears that at least some people will be wrestling twice. John Cena, Triple H, Roman Reigns, AJ Styles, Braun Strowman, The New Day, Randy Orton, and Shinsuke Nakamura have been announced for the show.

King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia is set to host the Greatest Royal Rumble on April 27th. Tickets will be made available on March 31st, and the show is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. AST (which is noon Eastern in the United States).

WWE hasn’t revealed their broadcast plans for the show, but Roman Reigns said in an interview last week that he believes it will be a “huge” WWE Network special.

Reigns believes Greatest Royal Rumble will be ‘huge’ Network special

While the broadcast information for next month’s “Greatest Royal Rumble” in Saudi Arabia has yet to be confirmed, it seems increasingly likely that the event will be shown on the WWE Network.

During an appearance on “The Jim and Sam Show” on SiriusXM today, Roman Reigns shared what he knows about WWE’s plans for the Greatest Royal Rumble. “Hopefully I’m not giving spoilers here,” Reigns said. “But I believe it’s going to be a huge Network special.”

The show will be taking place at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on April 27th. It’s the first event in WWE’s 10-year agreement with the Saudi General Sports Authority. The marquee attraction is a 50-participant Royal Rumble match, and Reigns, John Cena, Triple H, AJ Styles, Braun Strowman, The New Day, Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt, and Shinsuke Nakamura have been officially announced for the show.

When the Greatest Royal Rumble was first announced, WWE noted that ticket information and broadcast plans would be made available in the coming weeks.

WWE announces 50-entrant ‘Greatest Royal Rumble’ for Saudi Arabia

Additional notes added by Dave Meltzer

A 50-entrant Royal Rumble match will be taking place in Saudi Arabia later this year.

WWE and the Saudi General Sports Authority announced this morning that the “Greatest Royal Rumble” will take place at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on April 27th. There will be 50 wrestlers in the match, with John Cena, Triple H, Roman Reigns, AJ Styles, Braun Strowman, The New Day, Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt, and Shinsuke Nakamura advertised for the show.

The event will be the first as part of a ten-year contract between the Saudi General Sports Authority and WWE that was signed last week with Vince McMahon and Paul Levesque both going to Saudi Arabia to close what was likely a very lucrative deal. WWE’s press release announcing the show noted that ticket and broadcast information will be made available in the coming weeks.

“The ‘Greatest Royal Rumble’ will be a spectacle of historic proportions,” Vince McMahon said in a statement. “Our partnership with the Saudi General Sports Authority reflects a long-term commitment to present WWE’s world-class entertainment to a global audience on a grander scale than ever before.”

The 50 participants in the match will be the largest field ever for a Royal Rumble, surpassing the 40 wrestlers who took part in 2011.
