Effy responds to AEW pulling Ricky Starks from GCW events

Effy has responded to AEW pulling Ricky Starks from GCW events.

Starks made a surprise appearance at GCW’s show on November 23 and looked to be entering a program with Matt Cardona. However, three days later, GCW announced that Starks had been pulled from all upcoming bookings with the company.

Fightful would later report that AEW pulled Starks from the shows partly due to Effy’s podcast comments regarding AEW booking Hammerstein Ballroom a month before GCW returned to the venue in January.

“Brett (Lauderdale) does not own a football team. Brett doesn’t have a dad who pays him to stay away. I don’t want this to be a personal thing. I don’t, but hey guys, you aren’t the only game in town,” Effy said last month.

Our own Dave Meltzer confirmed the news in last week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, writing, “While nobody officially said anything, the strong belief, actually confirmed to us, is that it was the comments from Effy of GCW on Tony Khan, particularly a line he said about Khan’s father paying him to stay away, led to Khan feeling he didn’t want to do business with GCW.”

Effy appeared on The Game Changer Weekly podcast last night and responded to the situation.

Effy said:

“I can’t speak for Ricky Starks, right? I want the best for Ricky. That may be at AEW, that may be at WWE, that may be out here on the indies, that may be with GCW, and I don’t think that dream is out the window.”

“To everyone who’s saying ‘oh, it’s Effy’s fault he can’t be here,’ this is how things are done in wrestling and it’s something that he’s going to have to go work out on his own, AEW’s going to have to work out with him. They are correct, he is under contract with them but I haven’t seen him on TV in a ten month period.”

Effy also discussed Starks’ interview with Chris Van Vliet, which was published just days after GCW Dream On. During the interview, Starks referred to his not being used by AEW as “a mind–k.” Shortly after, Fightful reported that AEW extended Starks’ contract in the spring, and his deal now stretched into spring 2025. Effy believes AEW wasn’t happy about the leaked contract details and is using him as a scapegoat.

Effy continued:

“I think he was very honest and direct about his situation and who approved him being at GCW, but, somebody was not excited about his contract being leaked, that they’d added on the additional option, which they legally have a right to do. It’s all the timing of that happening at the exact same time and then using me as a blame. You know, go ahead, buddy. You can blame me. I can handle the blame, I can take the heat.”

“Someone pointed out a way out and they took the way out and that’s fine. I’m not someone who’s going to go back on what I say. I said what I said and I don’t think I said anything crazy. I just think there’s certain triggers that people have that you have to be mindful of, especially if you’re in business with them.”

“I think even the news articles that were confirming with them were a little confused and going, ‘Is this the reason you want us to print? This is the reason you want us to put with this, specifically.’

“I clearly am a person who’s GCW for life. I’m independent for life. I made this very clear. So, someone like me, who’s not looking at any future job opportunities currently, who’s not looking to work for the major companies, who’s not looking to sign any contracts, I understand the downsides of being that kind of independent, but I also see me as an easy person to go, ‘Okay, we can throw the blame on him.’”

Effy replacing Ricky Starks at GCW Highest in the Room

Game Changer Wrestling has named a replacement for the match Ricky Starks was supposed to have at Highest in the Room 3.

Before being pulled from all of his scheduled GCW appearances, Starks was set to face Matt Cardona at the Saturday, December 14 event in Los Angeles. GCW announced today that the match will now be Cardona vs. Effy.

Starks made a surprise appearance for GCW last weekend and was going to work a series of dates for the promotion. However, he has since been pulled from all of those shows. Fightful reported that AEW’s decision to pull Starks was, in part, due to comments Effy made about Tony Khan and Shad Khan on his podcast.

“While nobody officially said anything, the strong belief, actually confirmed to us, is that it was the comments from Effy of GCW on Tony Khan, particularly a line he said about Khan’s father paying [Tony] to stay away, led to Khan feeling he didn’t want to do business with GCW,” Dave Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Effy was critical of AEW after the promotion announced three dates for the Hammerstein Ballroom near the end of December — running the venue just a few weeks before GCW’s upcoming event at the Hammerstein. That January 19 show is one of the other GCW dates Starks was scheduled for.

GCW owner Brett Lauderdale told the Business of the Business podcast that he feels AEW “maybe” violated some written etiquette by booking their Hammerstein dates so close to GCW’s show.

Despite being healthy and under contract, Starks has been missing from AEW programming since March. He told Insight with Chris Van Vliet that the experience of being kept off TV has been a “mindf*ck.” Starks said he has theories about why he isn’t being used but does not want to voice them because he does not know for sure. While not confirmed, most fan speculation about Starks’ absence has been centered on a belief that he will eventually end up in WWE when his AEW contract expires.

The Ukrainian Cultural Center in Los Angeles is hosting GCW Highest in the Room with the event set to stream live on TrillerTV+. A Bloodsport match between Josh Barnett and Royce Isaacs is among the other bouts that will be taking place on the show.

AEW/Other Wrestling

  • AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita will be in action for DDT Pro Wrestling on January 3, competing for the promotion in Japan for the first time since July. He’s also set for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19 on January 4 and Wrestle Dynasty on January 5.
  • The Butcher (Andy Williams) celebrated the five-year anniversary of his AEW debut, writing that he loves everything the promotion allows him to do:
    • Yesterday was 5 yrs with @aew for me. I feel like I’ve lived 50 lives since then. Monocle, pants sash, long hair, tassels, fat, shredded, bald, Malenko trunks, bunk house Butch, white clothes,..etc. Now I’m rampage man or something. Love what this company has allowed me to do.
  • Chris Van Vliet asked Jake “The Snake” Roberts if it bothers him that he never held a championship in WWE:
    • No, not at all. My god, I’m grateful I did not have to carry that too. You know, I carried a 50 or 60 or 75 pound snake around, and we’d be on the road for two and three weeks at a time, all your clothing, everything you gotta carry, the last thing I want is a 10-pound belt to carry around too. Would I have liked to have had a championship? Yeah, of course. You know, that would have been something, but I had had several championships up until then. Maybe not [the] WWF Championship, but I’d had several – Calgary, I had it in Louisiana, and Mid-South. I had it in Texas. I had it in different places around, Mid-Atlantic. So I’d had my time with the belts. I mean, it was all right. I would have liked to have had the money that was associated with that belt. But how can I complain about [the] career that I had?
  • While speaking with TV Insider, Eric Bischoff reacted to next year being the 30th anniversary of WCW Nitro’s debut:
    • My show 83 Weeks is a nostalgia-based show, so I’m always looking into the history of the Monday Night War with WWE and WCW and all those things that happened during that era. I live in that era. In that sense, to me, that time was yesterday. The Mall of America, when you say that was almost 30 years ago? I think, ‘Not a chance.’ It seems like yesterday in a lot of ways, but in others, it seems like a lifetime.
  • Due to an injury suffered in pre-match training, NJPW Young Lion Masatora Yasuda had to miss today’s World Tag League event. His scheduled pre-show match against Daiki Nagai was pulled from the card.
  • Amazing Red is the latest talent confirmed for GCW’s show at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on Sunday, January 19.
  • Josh Barnett vs. Royce Isaacs in a Bloodsport match has been announced for GCW’s Highest in the Room event in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 14.
  • Slam Wrestling published an obituary paying tribute to wrestler/actor/stuntman Scott L. Schwartz, who passed away this week at 65 years old.

ECW legends set for GCW Hammerstein Ballroom show

Four ECW legends have been booked for Game Changer Wrestling’s return to the Hammerstein Ballroom.

Masato Tanaka, Tajiri, Super Crazy, and Little Guido (Nunzio) are all set to compete at The People vs. GCW, though their matches have not been announced yet. The show is taking place from New York City and will air live on TrillerTV+.

Returning to the Hammerstein Ballroom — where ECW once staged events — holds special meaning for Tanaka. His last-ever match against the late Mike Awesome took place at ECW One Night Stand 2005 at the Hammerstein. In a tweet this morning, Tanaka reflected on the moment and said he never thought it would be the last match of their legendary rivalry.

One Night Stand 2005 also featured a three-way dance with familiar opponents Super Crazy, Tajiri, and Little Guido. Super Crazy got the win that night.

This is GCW’s second time ever running the Hammerstein Ballroom. The theme of the show is that — after their first event at the venue in January 2022 received mixed-to-negative reviews — GCW gets a chance at redemption this time.

Here’s what has been announced for the card so far:

  • El Hijo del Vikingo vs. Sidney Akeem
  • GCW Tag Team Champions Dominic Garrini & Kevin Ku defend against Cole Radrick & Alec Price
  • Doors, Ladders & Chairs match for the vacant GCW Ultraviolent Championship: Matt Tremont vs. Brandon Kirk vs. Drew Parker vs. John Wayne Murdoch vs. TBA vs. TBA
  • Masato Tanaka, Tajiri, Super Crazy, Little Guido, Josh Barnett, and more set to compete

GCW’s Brett Lauderdale on AEW pulling Ricky Starks: ‘It certainly doesn’t feel great’

GCW’s Brett Lauderdale has commented on Ricky Starks being pulled from his promotion’s upcoming shows.

Starks appeared at GCW Dream On this weekend and cut a promo that referred to his not being used by AEW over the last eight months. It seemed that Starks and Matt Cardona were beginning a program, but then GCW was informed yesterday that AEW was pulling Starks from all upcoming appearances for the company.

Lauderdale addressed the situation on an episode of the Game Changer Weekly podcast early Tuesday morning. He said:

“Ricky Starks has worked for GCW before. So, he’s no stranger. We know him and we had a little bit of a relationship. And he’s also pretty tight friends with a few of the people in our locker room.”

“He, like many others, reached out to us and asked if we’d be interested and, of course, we’d love to have a guy like Ricky Starks, who we know how talented he is, we know how popular he is.”

“His promo and his appearance could have easily led to good business in many different directions. So, I think it was a big opportunity and a big opportunity seized and up until a couple of hours ago, it looked like we were on the right track. All of us.”

“Theoretically an independent contractor is independent, and they can go and work wherever they want. But in wrestling, these independent contractors don’t seem to be very independent. They’re at the whim of an employer, which sure makes it seem like they are an employee. I don’t know. It’s above our pay grade. I’m just an indie wrestling company and I don’t have people under contract.”

“I don’t really have a line of communication with AEW. I’ve never talked to Tony Khan on the phone or via text in my entire life. They don’t talk to me. I’m not trying to say that necessarily in a negative context but, I guess, we’ve never really had to talk.”

“I haven’t been on the phone with AEW where they’ve given me an explanation or asked me any questions or anything. I have no communication with AEW over this. I don’t know where it goes beyond Ricky Starks. But, of course, Sunday was Bloodsport in Jersey city and Jon Moxley was there, and Marina was there, and some others, many others, actually, were there, both on and off camera. So, I’m not sure what the deal is. Of course, I’ve heard things. I’ve heard things in many different directions but, again, without me hearing it directly from AEW, it’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s not.”

“I’ve always considered GCW and AEW to be on the same team. So, I don’t know if this is meant to punish Ricky Starks, is it meant to punish GCW, is it somewhere in-between? I just don’t know because again, I just don’t have that line of communication. It certainly doesn’t feel great. I would love to know if there is something that we should have done or something we should be doing or whatever. But we got to the point where this stuff was agreed upon and announced and fans were looking forward to this. So whenever that happens, to promote something and then have to pull it back, it’s not ideal.”

Shortly after Starks was pulled from GCW shows, Fightful reported that comments made by GCW’s Effy on his podcast regarding Tony Khan’s father, Shad Khan, played a role in the decision. Effy said on his show, “Brett (Lauderdale) does not own a football team. Brett doesn’t have a dad who pays him to stay away. I don’t want this to be a personal thing. I don’t, but hey guys, you aren’t the only game in town.”

Lauderdale responded:

“I don’t get to regularly tune into Effy’s podcast, so I wasn’t really aware of anything that would be considered too controversial that he would have said. I’ve only heard snippets now since I’ve read that. And you know, what Effy says is Effy’s opinion and Effy’s an independent wrestler, he’s an independent contractor, he says this stuff on his own personal podcast which is not endorsed or promoted or amplified or platformed by GCW. He’s his own guy.”

“I don’t review what he does. I have no control over Effy. He is absolutely independent, 100 percent.”

Lauderdale’s entire appearance on the show is available below:

Ricky Starks pulled from upcoming GCW appearances

Just as soon as it started, Ricky Starks’ GCW run is over.

The company announced on Tuesday that Starks has been pulled from all of his upcoming GCW appearances. This includes unannounced matches in December as well as an unannounced match at their Hammerstein Ballroom event on January 19.

Shortly before GCW’s announcement, Fightful Select reported that it was AEW’s move to pull Starks’ appearances, with the decision being made on November 26. According to the report, AEW was unhappy regarding GCW star Effy’s recent comments regarding Shad Khan & Tony Khan and AEW running the Hammerstein Ballroom one month prior to GCW’s event.

Starks made his first appearance for GCW over the weekend confronting Jimmy Lloyd. He cut a promo saying he was tired of sitting at home and called himself a generational superstar, eventually laying out Lloyd.

In a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Starks talked about his current status with AEW, where he hasn’t been used since the end of March.

“I could have a thousand theories about what’s really going on. The fact of the matter is that — if I don’t have a definitive answer, I can’t just make up an answer for people and just assume,” Starks said. “You know what I’m saying? Would I love to know the exact reason? For sure. Do I have speculations about why? Absolutely. But that does nothing — to speak on things that I speculate does nothing for the situation. So I think it’s just a matter of — it sucks.”

Sunday Update

Lee South Mercedes Mone vs Kris Statlander Newark, NJ AEW Full Gear November 23, 2024
  • Bryan and I were back last night covering Full Gear and all the news from the last few days. We’ll be back again tomorrow night after Raw.
  • No issue this past week due to my vacation but one of the two biggest issues of the year, and generally the most talked about, the Hall of Fame issue, is up on the site. It has a great story by Pat Laprade on Johnny Rougeau which tells you why he ended up voted in after several years, as well as rundowns on everyone voted in, everyone who came close, as well has how everyone figured in voting by specific groups of reporters, historians, active pros and retired pros so you can see who did well and who were the key people in voting them in.
  • We also did pieces on the deaths of Sandy Parker, the first woman of color to win a major women’s world title, Brian Maxine, a major star in the U.K. who lived a very interesting life, and small woman wrestler Darling Dagmar, who wrestled all over the world. Plus we have all the latest news.
  • My thoughts on Full Gear are pretty clear in the show from last night. Some positives as far as wrestling, like all major AEW PPV shows, but concern about the direction to be sure.
  • We’re looking for reports from these weekend shows:
    • NXT from Friday night in Lakeland, FL and last night in Jacksonville, FL.
    • Bloodsport tonight in Jersey City, NJ.
  • We’re looking for results, finishes and highlights to [email protected]. We’re also looking for your thoughts on Full Gear, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match for the show to [email protected].
  • Not a lot of major news coming out of Full Gear. A lot of people are speculating Worlds End will be headlined by Jon Moxley vs. Christian vs. Adam Page vs. Jay White coming off the show-closing angle, although Darby Allin was the featured guy when the show ended.
  • Nothing was announced for Dynamite, which will be Continental Classic bouts plus Chris Jericho vs Tomohiro Ishii for the ROH title. They will be taping both Dynamite and Collision on Wednesday as Rampage for Friday was taped this past Wednesday. Rampage & Collision will be airing  4-7 p.m. on Saturday afternoon Eastern. Survivor Series starts at 6 p.m. so goes head-to-head with Rampage, which against a WWE PPV and outside its normal time slot would figure to be the lowest rating for the show in history, or at least close. The show will have a heavy Lucha feel to it. Mistico, Hechicero, Mascara Dorada and Atlantis Jr. are scheduled for Chicago on Wednesday.
  • The only thing announced for the Continental Classic is new TNT champion Daniel Garcia is one of the 12. More names will be announced later today on YouTube.
  • Reader Anthony Saunders who was at Full Gear noted that part of the reason the crowd was so tough is that they never showed the matches on the big screens at the top of the arena. They did use the big screens for entrances and the Mariah May/Mina Shirakawa segment, but not the matches. He said there were multiple “Turn the Screen on” chants from the upper deck, although I don’t recall hearing them on the broadcast. Others in the upper deck confirmed that as an issue.
  • Michael Hayes returned from being gone to take care of personal issues on Friday’s Smackdown show in Salt Lake City where they taped two shows. Bruce Prichard is not expected back until early 2025.
  • Bayley replaces Jade Cargill in the women’s WarGames match at Survivor Series in Vancouver. We did get confirmation that Cargill is injured but the severity wasn’t known internally past those involved in creative were told it will be a minimum of three months out, maybe longer, which is why they released the story of such severe injuries.
  • We don’t have a lot of details on this but a fighter who did what I believe was his first MMA fight last night in Enoch, Alberta, near Edmonton, went into cardiac arrest during the fight. He was in the third fight of an 18-fight show and they stopped the show at that point and the other 15 fights didn’t happen. The fight took place in Enoch to avoid regulations. Nothing has been reported about it past someone who attended the show told us what happened with the show being stopped. The promotion uses fighters with zero experience and eight weeks of training in many cases.
  • Akira, who was to face Charlie Dempsey at Bloodsport on Sunday, was injured last night working for Ruthless Pro Wrestling in Berwyn, IL.  He went to the hospital to get stitched up from a nasty wound to his abdomen (thanks to Leonard Brand)
  • It was announced shortly before Bloodsport that Tracy Williams would be replacing Akira.
  • MLW is doing an Eric Bischoff’s One Shot event on 12/5 with Matt Riddle vs Donovan Dijak, Mistico vs. Trevor Lee for the middleweight title, Satoshi Kojima vs. Ultimo Guerrero for the MLW title, Titan vs. Magnus, Minoru Suzuki vs. Akira. Averno was announced for the 1/11 show in North Richland Hills, TX.
  • James Gunn sent out a Tweet today saying that they’ve completed filming of Peacemaker season two, so John Cena is now available. He’s advertised for the 1/6 Raw on Netflix.
  • AEW was pushing the 1/1 Dynamite in Asheville, NC as the first simulcast on MAX. All AEW TV airs on Max starting after that show. Rampage finishes at the end of the year unless it gets a new home.
  • New Japan ran Korakuen Hall today for the tag team tournament. It was A block night as:
    • Jeff Cobb & Callum Newman (3-0) beat KENTA & Chase Owens (0a-3)
    • Zack Sabre Jr. & Ryohei Oiwa (2-1) beat Alex Zayne & Ryusuke Taguchi (0-3)
    • Shota Umino & Tomoaki Honma (2-1) beat Hirooki Goto & Yoshi-Hashi (2-1)
    • Shingo Takagi & Yota Tsuji (2-1) beat Sanada & Gabe Kidd (1-2)
  • Best wishes to Chris Hero, who lost his mother earlier this past week.
  • We actually didn’t hear about any must-see matches this weekend besides on the AEW PPV show other than the UFC main event yesterday from Macau with Deiveson Figueiredo losing to Petr Yan via straight 50-45 scores. People said several of the rounds were close. Yan scored a third round knockdown and Figueiredo had a fourth round knockdown. Yan issued a challenge after the fight to bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili.
  • Jiri Prochazka vs. Jamahal Hill was announced for the 1/18 UFC  PPV show at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
  • In something out of pro wrestling, Mike Perry promoted a show in Miami last night. Duane Crespo, a star in PowerSlap, but who lost his last four actual fights via knockout, faced a mystery opponent who wasn’t revealed until Friday night at weigh-ins as 47 year old former star and Olympian Yoel Romero. Romero destroyed Crespo via first round knockout.
  • GCW from last night in East Rutherford NJ:
    • Kurt Angle & Mick Foley did an interview. Blue Pain came out and went to chokeslam Angle, but Foley stopped him, used Mr. Socko on him and then Angle put Pain in the anklelock.
    • Tony Deppen b Marcus Mathers
    • Alec Price & Cole Radrick b Arez & Gringo Loco
    • Sidney Akeem (Reginald/Scrypts) b Mike Bailey
    • Ricky Starks appeared, traded barbs with Matt Cardona and then laid out Jimmy Lloyd with  a DDT.
    • Cardona b 1 Called Manders with help from John Layfield and Lloyd
    • Ricky Morton NC Little Guido due to interference by Griffin McCoy and Kerry Morton
    • Ricky Morton & Guido b Kerry Morton & McCoy
    • Kevin Ku & Dominic Garrini kept  the tag titles over Megan Bayne & Joey Janela
    • Price & Radrick challenged Kyu & Garrini but Ku & Garrini laid them out
    • Matt Tremont won a four-way over John Wayne Murdoch, Brandon Kirk and Drew Parker.
    • Masha Slamovich b Santana Jackson to keep the JCW women’s title
    • Mance Waner NC Effy for the GCW title when Allie Katch laid both out with chair shots and also piledrove the referee.
  • Bloodsport tonight has:
    • MVP vs. Josh Barnett
    • Masha Slamovich vs. Lei Ying Lee
    • Dominic Garrini vs. Kevin Ku
    • Royce Isaacs vs. Myles Borne
    • Marina Shafir vs. Jody Threat
    • Karmen Patrovic vs. Sumie Sakai. So this show has two wrestlers under AEW contracts and two under WWE contracts.
  • As far as YouTube views go, the C.M. Punk reveal on SmackDown did 2.7 million views so far. Those in WWE have said through all forms of social media it has hit 50 million. The AEW segment with Big Boom AJ and QT Marshall was at 398,000 views on YouTube as of last week but in that company they said it was in the millions for everything combined.
  • The United Wrestling Coalition has its 30th Toys for Tots show on 12/7 at the McKaig-Test-Mullen American Legion Post 455 in New Egypt , NJ. There will be a  meet and greet at 6 p.m. and bell time is 7 p.m.

Ricky Starks appears at GCW Dream On

Ricky Starks made a surprise appearance at today’s Game Changer Wrestling event.

GCW Dream On was held at The American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and featured appearances by Mick Foley and Kurt Angle.

Starks made a surprise appearance on the show, interrupting a promo by Jimmy Lloyd. Lloyd asked Starks if he was supposed to be “in catering” up the street at the Prudential Center, the venue for tonight’s AEW Full Gear. Starks gave Lloyd a DDT and then addressed the crowd.

Starks said:

“I think everyone wants a statement from Ricky Starks, huh? Well, the statement is I’m standing right here in the middle of a GCW ring.”

“Passion runs through my blood, and I will be damned if I sit at home and I get frozen out. I’ll be damned if I sit at home and let my career dwindle. I am 34 years old. I’m healthy. I am goddamn good looking, and most importantly, I am a generational superstar.”

“I’m going to come back to where I came from in the very beginning. And why not start in one of the hottest promotions right now, GCW?”

Lloyd then attempted to attack Starks from behind, but Starks ducked and gave him a spear as his music played throughout the venue.

Starks hasn’t wrestled for AEW since March, and his future with the company remains unclear. Starks is also scheduled to wrestle for House of Glory on Friday, January 17.

GCW owner reacts to AEW Hammerstein shows: ‘Not the greatest of circumstances for us’

Game Changer Wrestling owner Brett Lauderdale feels AEW “maybe” violated some unwritten etiquette by running the Hammerstein Ballroom so close to GCW’s upcoming show there.

It was announced last month that GCW will return to the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City for a show on January 19. Since then, AEW has revealed that it will be running the venue for three straight days from December 20-22. There will be an ROH pay-per-view, a live episode of AEW Collision, and an AEW Dynamite taping.

Having four wrestling events in such a short period could lead to some ticket buyers choosing the AEW events over GCW. While appearing on the Business of the Business podcast, Lauderdale was asked if he thinks AEW is running these shows because GCW booked the venue.

“Well, I don’t know Tony Khan personally and I don’t know enough of their people well enough to know or to speculate that they would particularly do something like that just to hurt us,” he responded. “Now, with that being said, you know, the traditional etiquette would be: there’s a window where you don’t go to the same buildings. Should that window exist? Often times, you can call it an unwritten rule — or in many cases it’s a written rule. And I’m sure most of the venues, when AEW goes to venues, they probably have a rule written in that no other wrestling show can go there within 30 days or 60 days. It’s a pretty standard practice in the wrestling business — and a lot of entertainment industries there’s rules like that, both written and unwritten.

“Do I think that they literally set out to look for a way to hurt GCW? I’m not ready to go that far with it. But do I think that maybe it wasn’t the most polite thing to do? Maybe. I mean, they are a billionaire company with endless resources and they run multiple television shows every week, so they could run an event there anytime they wanted. They don’t have to do it in December or January or whatever. They can do it in February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September. They could do it every month if they wanted to. But they chose to do it in late December, which happens to be less than 30 days before we’re there. So, I mean, it’s not the greatest of circumstances for us.”

This is GCW’s second time ever running the Hammerstein Ballroom. Named “The People vs. GCW,” the theme of the show is that GCW has unfinished business after their first event at the Hammerstein in January 2022 received negative to mixed reviews from a sizable portion of fans.

With this being GCW’s second time at the Hammerstein — and with the three AEW shows happening there — Lauderdale knows that it’s even more important for him to deliver a card people want to see.

“People going to our show just because it’s a wrestling show at the Hammerstein Ballroom, that’s off the table now,” he told the Business of the Business. “So, yes, we do have to win people over. We do have to sell our card. And, yeah, of course, we have to give a card worthy of the attention and worthy of the prestige of being there. And we have to make people buy tickets. Yeah, that’s the game plan. We’re working on it. We’ve got ideas. I think we’ll start to see some of the picture start to come clear this weekend, and we’re working on it and trying to make the rest of it come together.”

Lauderdale said the goal is to sell out the Hammerstein Ballroom or sell as many tickets as possible. He’s going to take advantage of every opportunity to get people’s attention, put flyers in their hands, and make them want to come to the show.

The AEW events will be the promotion’s Hammerstein debut, though ROH held shows there in the pre-Tony Khan era. The ballroom is located in the Manhattan Center and played host to ECW events in the past, along with WWE’s first two ECW One Night Stand PPVs.

Khan told SportsGrid this summer that he thought AEW/ROH running the Hammerstein Ballroom was a “great idea,” but it wasn’t something he had thought about much before that point.

WWE NXT wrestler Myles Borne set for Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XII match

Another NXT wrestler has been announced for Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XII.

No Quarter Catch Crew’s Myles Borne vs. Royce Isaacs is now shceduled for the show, which takes place on Sunday, November 24 and will air live on Triller TV.

Josh Barnett announced the news on Tuesday, writing:

“It should be of no surprise that another member of the No Quarter Catch Crew would find their way to Bloodsport.
