AEW Collision live results: Eight-man tag action, Continental title eliminator

An eight-man tag team match headlines this week’s AEW Collision as Darby Allin, Mark Briscoe & FTR will team up to take on The Beast Mortos & The Undisputed Kingdom.

This week’s show starts at a special time of 5 PM EST due to WWE SummerSlam.

Briscoe and other members of The Congolmeration have been feuding with the likes of Roderick Strong, Mike Bennett & Matt Taven for the last several weeks. On AEW Dynamite, Mortos pinned Briscoe in a six-man tag match.

A three-way match will take place between Lee Moriarty, Claudio Castagnoli and Tomohiro Ishii to determine the next challenger for Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada. Kyle Fletcher, who will face MJF on the next Dynamite, will take on Brian Cage.

CMLL’s Mistico will team with Hologram to face The Premier Athletes, and Thunder Rosa will square off against Taya Valkyrie.

AEW Women’s World Toni Storm will be in action with Mariah May on commentary. We’ll also hear from the new AEW Trios Champions Christian Cage, Nick Wayne, and Killswitch.

**********

Collision began with the AEW Trios Champions The Patriarchy coming to the ring. As always, Tony Schiavone & Nigel McGuinness were on the call.

Christian Cage, holding all three Trios Titles, said that his road back to the AEW World Championship began with the Trios Titles and disciplined the fans in the difference between a belt and a championship. In a showing of good grace, he awarded Nick Wayne with his title belt. Cage told Killswitch that the Patriarchy does not work without their finisher and gave him a hug to show him how much he meant to him. With that said, Killswitch didn’t give birth to a Prodigy. Cage awarded Shayna Wayne with the third Trios Title to Killswitch’s dismay.

Killswitch put his hand on Cage’s shoulder, but Malakai Black & Brody King made their entrance. Cage called King “Jelly Roll,” and reminded them that Buddy Matthews was on the shelf because of the Patriarchy. Cage ran down the two of them before the lights went out. When the lights came back up, Buddy Matthews was in the ring to run them off. As the Patriarchy bailed, The Bang Bang Gang came out through the ramp.

Cage, Killswitch, and Mother Wayne bailed through the crowd. Nick Wayne bailed out through the other side of the crowd, but Kip Sabian intercepted him and dumped him over the railing. The House of Black pinballed Wayne around and sent him packing. Both Malakai Black and Juice Robinson grabbed Wayne’s Trios title belt before both trios stared each other down.

(A solid opening segment to start the show, with the Patriarchy’s past actions coming back to bite them.)

Lexy Nair was backstage with Dustin Rhodes & The Von Erichs. Rhodes put over the connection between the two families, and the Von Erichs talked about how proud they were to be champions alongside Rhodes. Sammy Guevara entered the frame and spoke about how he wanted to earn their trust going forward as proud Texans. Rhodes shook Guevara’s hand.

Hologram & Mistico defeated The Premier Athletes (Ari Daivari & Tony Nese) (w/Mark Sterling)

(An energetic tag match here, with Hologram getting to team with a bonafide lucha star in Mistico to continue the great start to his AEW career.)

We got footage of Chris Jericho’s recent attack on Mistico in Arena Mexico, with the two set to compete at CMLL’s 91st Anniversary show in September. Mark Sterling mocked Hologram and Mistico, saying that they should be in Paris with the other gymnasts. He said that they would be losing here instead, “in Texas, in front of fat people.” Now now, I’m sure Paris has its share of tubby folks. Someone’s gotta be eating all those baguettes.

Hologram and Daivari started, with Hologram having the advantage until Daivari used the mask to pull Hologram into his corner. Hologram slipped by Nese to get the tag into Mistico, who vaulted off of Hologram’s back to hit a headscissors on Nese. Mistico caught both Athletes with an armdrag/headscissors combo before the luchadores sent the Athletes to the floor with dual dropkicks.

After a commercial break, the Athletes had the advantage on Mistico until he hit a handspring back elbow to both men. Mistico got both men out of his way before tagging Hologram, who ran wild on both Athletes. Hologram hit a wild hammerlock slam for a nearfall. Nese got a blind tag and caught Hologram with Greetings From Asbury Park for a nearfall broken up by Mistico.

Hologram got cut off by Sterling, and after sending Daivari to the floor, Hologram dove into Sterling for a big pop. Mistico got back in the mix and vaulted off of Hologram to hit a tornillo onto both Athletes. Hologram followed with a ropewalk dive to the floor before scoring the win with a 450 Splash on Daivari.

We got a recap package of the events that led to Jeff Jarrett vs. Bryan Danielson on next week’s Dynamite.

Mariah May made her way to the announce desk, with her Owen Hart Foundation Title and her bloody shoe. Nigel McGuinness lost any semblance of composure as May gave Tony Schiavone grief for his curt comments a few weeks ago. Toni Storm made her entrance before bolting to the announce desk to brawl with May. Vice Principal Christopher Daniels tried to break it up, but Storm dove off of the stage onto both of them. Security broke the two of them up before Storm’s scheduled opponent Rache Chanel jumped Storm from behind.

Toni Storm defeated Rache Chanel

(I loved this segment. Everyone’s actions made sense here. May gave Schiavone grief for his comments a few weeks ago, allowing Storm to get the jump on her. Meanwhile, the local talent saw a chance to get the jump on the World Women’s Champion and took it before Storm handily put her away. An excellent use of time here.)

Storm took quick control with a German suplex and a hip attack before scoring the quick win with the Storm Zero.

We got a video package with Kyle Fletcher speaking about his friendship with Will Ospreay before his match with MJF on Dynamite.

We got footage of MJF’s American Title defense against Templario from Friday night’s CMLL event.

Kyle Fletcher defeated Brian Cage

(A definitive win for Fletcher to set him up for Dynamite. MJF noting that he would give Fletcher a shot at the title on 8/14 if he beat him on Wednesday does put the result in a slight bit of doubt, although MJF is still the heavy favorite.)

Don Callis joined commentary as he watched his charge Fletcher make his way to the ring. Fletcher quickly sent Cage to the floor before hitting a dive to the floor. Cage sent Fletcher into the apron and the stairs, but Fletcher reversed a suplex on the ramp. In a page out of the Great Muta’s playbook, Fletcher charged up the ramp before charging Cage with a cannonball as we went to a commercial.

After a commercial, Cage took Fletcher off the top rope with a scary twisting powerslam for a nearfall. The two traded strikes until Fletcher caught Cage with a Hammerlock Tombstone for the win.

Fletcher took the mic after the match and warned MJF that if he dropped him on his head like he did to Cage, he may not make it to Wembley. Fletcher said that if MJF was the American Hero he believed himself to be, he would put the American Championship on the line on Wednesday.

MJF appeared on the screen, saying that Fletcher was a typical foreigner coming to take from hard-working Americans. He said that he didn’t become famous by riding Ospreay’s coattails, he did it by beating Ospreay without breaking a sweat. MJF offered Fletcher an Eliminator match for the title, saying that if Fletcher won on Wednesday, MJF would defend the title against him the following week.

We got a video package of Bryan Danielson training for his World Title match at All In. Danielson talked about training at 100 percent, where 101 percent is not possible. Wheeler Yuta was training with him and said that people had forgotten about how dangerous Danielson was. Yuta said that Swerve Strickland was just putting his title on the line, while Danielson was putting his life on the line. Danielson warned Strickland that this was the biggest match of his life and that he was training like it.

(Really good video package here, with Yuta giving some great lines that put over the significance of this title match from Danielson’s perspective.)

Jeff Jarrett & his crew were backstage with Renee Paquette. Jay Lethal said that if it wasn’t for Hangman Page, Jarrett would have won the Royal Rampage. Sonjay Dutt said that it wasn’t for Page, Jarrett would have won the Owen Hart Tournament. Karen Jarrett said that those two needed to do something about Page, before Jeff told everyone to calm down. Jeff said that neither he nor Page got what they wanted before moving on to Bryan Danielson.

Jarrett said that Danielson needed to be ready for Swerve Strickland, who was the most dangerous man in wrestling. Jarrett offered Danielson to take their match back to his roots in Memphis, where they did hardcore wrestling before it was called hardcore wrestling. He wanted their match to be Anything Goes and promised to introduce Danielson to the Last Outlaw. The match was made official, with Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat to be a special guest for the match.

(If you had told me six weeks ago that I would be as into babyface veteran avenger Jeff Jarrett as I am right now, well, I probably would have believed you because Jarrett is great. Jarrett as this lifetime heel who’s finally done something honorable and wants to see it through is such an interesting turn for him. He wants to see Danielson succeed as the rightful winner of the Owen Hart Cup and is willing to put his own body at risk to see it happen. I expect to see Hangman Page get involved in Jarrett’s business again on Wednesday.)

Continental Collision Three-Way Match – Claudio Castagnoli defeated Tomohiro Ishii & Lee Moriarty (w/ Shane Taylor)

(Castagnoli vs. Okada sounds like a fun night. Claudio finally scores a big win after coming close on several recent occasions.)

It was announced here that the winner of this match would get a future Continental Championship match against Kazuchika Okada at a future date. The three men traded forearms to start before Moriarty sent both Castagnoli & Ishii flying with a dropkick. Moriarty used his technique to clear both men out of the ring before hitting a low tope to both of them as we went to a commercial.

We came back to bodies flying everywhere as the men traded German suplexes. Castagnoli took both of his opponents down with a double clothesline. Ishii and Castagnoli were left in the ring to trade strikes, with Moriarty shoving Ishii out of the ring to attempt to steal the pin. Castagnoli snatched Moriarty up in the Giant Swing. Castagnoli went for a move, but Ishii yanked him out of the ring. Moriarty caught a sliding lariat into a crucifix pin, but Ishii came back with a running lariat for a nearfall. Ishii and Castagnoli traded more strikes before Ishii scored with an enzuigiri that Moriarty tried to steal the pin for again.

Moriarty caught Ishii in the Border City Stretch before Ishii rolled him onto his shoulders for a nearfall. Moriarty hit a sunset flip on Castagnoli that resulted in Ishii getting suplexed. Castagnoli yanked Moriarty up into a Neutralizer, then yanked Ishii out of the ring and hit a diving uppercut on Moriarty for the win and the future title match against Okada.

Top Flight was backstage with their new flight attendant, Leila Grey. Grey said that with her help, Top Flight was headed straight to the top. MxM Collection interrupted them, figuring out that TSA stood for “Their Style: Ass.” They argued before MxM proclaimed Top Flight’s interview over.

(Top Flight having a flight attendant is a little corny, but I won’t complain about more Leila Grey on TV. MxM was very funny here.)

Thunder Rosa defeated Taya Valkyrie (w/ Johnny TV)

(The Rosa/Purrazzo feud has gone long enough, and hopefully they deliver with this bullrope match next week. As for Taya and Johnny, I preferred them on Ring of Honor. Especially after I stopped covering it.)

Johnny involved himself early to give Valkyrie the early advantage, but Rosa came back with double knees in the corner and a sliding lariat that sent Valkyrie to the floor. After a commercial, Rosa came back strong, rolling through a Road To Valhalla attempt to hit a double stomp. Johnny yanked Valkyrie out of the ring, then got in Rosa’s way to allow Valkyrie to hit a spear.

Rosa caught Johnny with a baseball slide, then slid out of the way of a curb stomp before locking on the seated Cobra Clutch for the win. Rosa immediately called out Deonna Purrazzo, who congratulated her on her winning streak. Purrazzo noted that she has a winning streak as well, having beaten Rosa three times in a row. Rosa challenged Purrazzo to a bullrope match next week, which was quickly confirmed.

Darby Allin, FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) & Mark Briscoe defeated The Beast Mortos & The Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven, Mike Bennett & Roderick Strong)

(An awesome party match, with eight of the best wrestlers in the promotion just having an excellent main event. The post-match was interesting, with the Acclaimed not allowing FTR to jump the line and get a shot at the Young Bucks before them.)

Harwood and Strong started with some hard grappling before the tecnicos made quick tags to keep control of him. Strong booted Harwood before getting Bennett tagged in. Bennett and Harwood traded hard chops before Briscoe hit the double shoulder block with Harwood. The announcers noted upcoming October dates for Dynamite, including the Dynamite 5th Anniversary show as well as a Title Tuesday Dynamite as well.

Allin and Taven tagged in, with Allin scoring several flash pins before Taven ran to tag Mortos. Mortos laid everybody out, including dumping Allin straight onto his head and shoulder. Darby, the match just started. Wheeler got caught in the wrong corner before Strong hit an Olympic Slam to take control into the commercial break.

After the break, Wheeler fought for the tag before Bennett ripped Allin off of the apron with a Side Russian Leg Sweep. Briscoe got on the apron and made the tag, running wild on the rudos. The match broke down into a Pier Six brawl before Briscoe hit Taven with the Death Valley Driver. FTR hit the Redneck Boogie before Briscoe followed up with the Froggy Bow, with the pin being broken up by Taven’s partners.

The match broke down again before Mortos hit a tornillo onto Briscoe and a cannonball on Harwood. Mortos hit a Tumbleweed on Harwood for a nearfall before tagging Strong in. Harwood fought his way to the corner, where Briscoe was taken out by the Kingdom. Strong took Harwood and hit a gutbuster before Mortos followed with a spear for a nearfall. Harwood traded strikes with Mortos before hitting a main event spinebuster – in the main event, no less.

Allin tagged in and ran wild on Taven and Strong, crushing them with Coffin Splashes. Allin hit a Code Red on Strong for a nearfall. The Kingdom triple-teamed Allin with strikes but couldn’t keep him down. The Kingdom went for Hail Mary on Allin, but Allin got an inside cradle on Taven for a nearfall. Harwood snuck a blind tag in before Allin fought off the Kingdom. We got huge dives from everyone before FTR hit the Powerplex on Taven. Briscoe and Allin followed with a Froggy Bow and a Coffin Drop respectively for the win.

After the match, Harwood took the mic and talked about being the heart and soul of AEW when The Acclaimed came out. Max Caster asked where FTR was when the Acclaimed was in Blood and Guts. Caster said that Harwood’s body couldn’t hold up, while Wheeler wasn’t good enough to get on TV without his partner.

Anthony Bowens took the mic and said that the Acclaimed fought to give FTR the right to complain about their legacies, which the Acclaimed don’t care about. Bowens told FTR that they didn’t get to cut the line and reminded them that they held a win over FTR. Bowens told them to nut up or shut up and shoved the mic into Harwood’s chest, starting a shoving match.

Mark Briscoe said that this is exactly what the EVPs wanted and asked for a show of unity. FTR offered a handshake, but the Acclaimed walked away.

AEW Dynamite live results: Will Ospreay vs. Lance Archer

Will Ospreay will face Lance Archer as Ospreay prepares to challenge MJF for the American Championship next month at Wembley Stadium.

After being on the winning team for last week’s Blood & Guts match and also earning a future World title shot by winning the Royal Rampage, Darby Allin will battle Hangman Page for the first time ever.

CMLL Women’s Champion Willow Nightingale takes on Kris Statlander in a title eliminator bout.

The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly & Tomohiro Ishii) will face Roderick Strong, Rush & The Beast Mortos.

Renee Paquette will conduct a sit-down interview with Mariah May ahead of her challenge of Toni Storm for the Women’s World title at All In.

**********

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with the American Champion, MJF, making his way to the ring. MJF mocked the South Carolina crowd, the trailer park capital of the World, telling them to keep their meth addicted mouths shut. MJF talked about defeating the red coat terrorist, Will Ospreay, bringing the American Title back to this great nation, promising to beat Ospreay again at All In. MJF asks the fans to rise for their American hero, but the music for Will Ospreay interrupts and he bolts to the ring and MJF high-tails it up the ramp. Ospreay said MJF better keep running, as after what MJF said about his family last week, he’ll put him through unimaginable pain. Ospreay said not a single person here would acknowledge the American Title because they don’t respect MJF after trashing the International Title last week. Ospreay said men worked hard for that title to have a legacy, men like PAC, Orange Cassidy, Jon Moxley, Rey Fenix, Roderick Strong & himself, who bust their asses week in and week out for the fans. MJF doesn’t fit the criteria, as he’s not worthy of holding the International Title. The crowd started chanting USA, but Ospreay told them MJF doesn’t represent the American spirit, but at All In, he’ll restore honor to the International Title.

MJF said the crowd are disgusting turncoats for cheering for Ospreay. At Wembley Stadium, MJF will embarrass Ospreay in front of his crooked teeth countrymen. Ospreay won’t make it to All In, as tonight, everybody dies. Lance Archer marches out for our opening contest.

Will Ospreay defeated Lance Archer

(Archer mentioned the history these two have had dating back to New Japan and this victory now puts Ospreay up 3-1 in that series for those keeping count. This was a solid opener with Archer showing his strength off and Ospreay having the big moves scouted, as the fans were really behind him from the start. They’ve done a really good job building Ospreay & MJF for Wembley so far.)

Bell sounds and immediately Archer planted Ospreay with a choke slam. Locomotion corner charges from Archer, as Ospreay fires back with a handspring Pele kick to send Archer outside. Ospreay tried a Sasuke Special, but landed into the clutches of Archer, who slammed Ospreay on the mat. Archer told the camera they have a history and tonight, he’ll even the score. Taking way too long to follow-up, Ospreay popped up with a hurricanrana into the barricade. Archer went to get back in the ring, but Ospreay was there with a springboard dropkick. Ospreay played to the crowd and was choke slammed off the top as things went to commercial.

Archer controlled during break, but when things returned, Ospreay flipped out of a choke slam, hit a hook kick, tried Oscutter, but leapt right into a Black Hole Slam from Archer for two. Massive spinebuster connected and Ospreay barely got a shoulder up for a near fall. Thrust kick from Ospreay, as Archer no sold and ran full steam, but Ospreay hit a standing Spanish Fly.  Archer violently stomped down Ospreay out of the corner, but was crotched in the ropes. Archer wanted an Avalanche Chokeslam, but Ospreay countered into a Spanish Fly and Oscutter for two. Ospreay wanted Hidden Blade, but was turned inside out with a huge lariat. Step up corner knee from Archer, who looked for Black Out, but Ospreay spun into a DDT and diving Hidden Blade, but Archer was out at one. Ospreay dropped the elbow pad and hit a proper Hidden Blade flush for the victory.

MJF attacked right after the bell with a brainbuster before placing the Dynamite Diamond Ring on. Kyle Fletcher ran out and fought MJF off, who bailed up the ramp to the back. Don Callis was in the ring with Fletcher, who said he knows Callis told him not to get involved since he’s no longer part of the Family, but Ospreay is his best friend. Fletcher called MJF a narcissistic asshole and said he’s MJF’s karma coming to bite him in the ass. Fletcher said MJF doesn’t give a damn about America, but heard what he said about foreign wrestlers last week. Fletcher dreamed about wrestling in America and he’s forever grateful for giving him his dream girl, car, life and speaks for everyone in Australia, United Kingdom that everyone is sick of MJF’s bullcrap. Fletcher called MJF to the ring and MJF acted like he was going to go to the ring, but said no.

Wannabe Will Ospreay doesn’t call the shots, he does, no one punches an American Hero in the face and gets away with it. Next week, Fletcher is on and if he thought All In was bad last year, he’s going to Kangaroo Kick his face off and leave him in a pool of his own blood like Daniel Garcia. Ospreay will be the one to blame when MJF dismantles his boy. Fletcher raised Ospreay’s hand and Callis just looked annoyed before giving a reluctant nod to Ospreay.

-A video package on AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland is shown.

**********

-We go to footage of Chris Jericho vs. Minoru Suzuki last week before going backstage to Alex Marvez, who is with The Learning Tree. Big Bill has a cake and presents Jericho a cake to celebrate 102 days as FTW Champion. Jericho said there’s never been a cake in wrestling that hasn’t been smashed in someone’s face. Not tonight, as the only thing smashed will be Katsuyori Shibata’s face after he defeated the Murder Grandpa. Jericho’s hand is taped up and said The Bad Apple will do his business for him, as Bryan Keith said next week, he’ll beat Shibata. Bill handed Marvez the cake and Keith told him to eat that cake if he respects Chris Jericho.

Kris Statlander (w/Stokely Hathaway) defeated CMLL Women’s Champion Willow Nightingale in a Title Eliminator

(With this win, Statlander receives a CMLL Women’s Title shot down the line, presumably All In if I were to bet. I enjoyed this more than their World’s End match late last year. I liked how commentary talked about how this is more about Statlander making sure Nightingale suffers as much pain as possible than the actual title itself. That might sound odd, but this feud has been going on well before Nightingale won the CMLL Women’s Title in the first place, so it makes sense.)

Statlander attacked before the bell and hit a top rope dropkick, as the match officially began, as Statlander unloaded corner strikes. Nightingale dodged a charge and returned the favor with chops of her own. Nightingale wanted a spinebuster, but Statlander rolled through, only to be dropped with a Fisherman’s Suplex for two. Both ladies took turns sending the other into the barricade, with Statlander in control heading into picture in picture.

Back from break, Nightingale battled back with a series of short arm clotheslines and a spinebuster for two. Statlander avoids the Doctor Bomb, cut Nightingale off with a face plant off an electric chair into a scissors kick. Both ladies fought to the apron, where Nightingale hit a Death Valley Driver on the edge of the ring, as the crowd went wild. Nightingale grabbed Hathaway, but wasted way too much time and was decked by Statlander. Back inside, Statlander wanted another missile dropkick, but Nightingale turned it into a huge powerbomb followed by a DDT for two. Statlander knocked Nightingale to the mat out of the corner and hit a 450 Splash for a close near fall. Hathaway passed Statlander a chain before distracting ref Aubrey. Statlander hit a discus lariat and really didn’t even use the actual chain, but it was enough to get the pin.

Post match, Hathaway gave Statlander a chair, as she wore out Nightingale with it before security intervened. Statlander put down the chair, but beat the hell out of all the security until Hathaway called her off.

-Footage of Bryan Danielson’s interview with Renee Paquette last week was shown with Jeff Jarrett interrupting.

Bryan Danielson Addresses Swerve Strickland and All In

Danielson put over the crowd and said it wasn’t just a cheap pop, as his wife and him got their engagement photos taken in Greensville and Taz hilariously asked “why?” The crowd chanted for Brie and Excalibur said they’re fans of cheese. Danielson said looking at those photos, you don’t realize the good old days until they’re almost gone. Danielson is here to talk about presence and promises, bringing up how he was present in the good old days, as he thought he was retired, but these last 3 years have been the most fun in his career. While the fans were chanting Yes, he was backstage being present and showed goosebumps on his arm. The crowd chanted Thank You Bryan and he said he was thankful to be present for this moment.

Danielson said now it’s time to talk about promises and how he promised his daughter he’d stop wrestling full time when she turned 7 and his family this would be the last contract he signs in his career and that contract expires tomorrow. He came to AEW to kick people’s heads in and to win the AEW World Title. He’s kicked a lot of people’s heads in, but hasn’t won the AEW World Title…yet. Danielson knows this is his last shot, at the biggest show of the year and knows doctors and his family don’t want him to wrestle, but promises the fans to be present and promises them he’ll give 110%. At All In, with mind, body and soul, he will go All In.

Swerve Strickland & Prince Nana make their way to the ring and we get dueling Yes & Swerve’s House chants. Strickland said he respects the hell out of Danielson for what he’s done for young wrestlers in the industry. He’d want Danielson to have his moment at any other time, but this is Swerve’s time. Danielson is the greatest of his generation, but Strickland is one of a kind. Strickland said Danielson wanted to kick everyone’s head in, but couldn’t handle it when people started kicking back. Strickland said the AEW World Title isn’t an Achievement Award, it proves you’re the best in the world and that’s what Strickland is. Strickland put over Danielson vs. Ospreay, but he lost and got hurt. Danielson lost against The Elite in Anarchy in the Arena, while Strickland led Team AEW to a win at Blood & Guts. While Strickland competed at All In last year, Danielson’s body was so broke down he couldn’t even travel there on a plane. Strickland promises Danielson he’s the most dangerous man in AEW and promises Danielson won’t be walking out of All In as champion, maybe not walking ever again.

Danielson stops Strickland & Nana from leaving, saying he has one more promise. If he doesn’t win the AEW World Championship, he will never wrestle again. Title vs. Career at All In, as Danielson offers a handshake and Strickland accepts, saying it’s very noble, but don’t keep that promise to him, keep it with Danielson’s family. This was an excellent segment to really kick off the All In main event story.

-Renee Paquette is backstage and approaches Danielson, who is met by Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, Jeff & Karen Jarrett, applauding what they just saw. Jarrett said that’s how you go All In and Danielson slapped his hand out of the way and challenged Jarrett to a match next week before walking off. Jarrett’s crew was left confused.

Roderick Strong, Rush & Beast Mortos defeated The Conglomeration (ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe, Orange Cassidy & Tomohiro Ishii)

(The party match of the evening gave us the biggest win in Mortos’ AEW career and I wouldn’t be shocked in a future ROH World Title shot is in his future. Even in defeat, The Conglomeration continue to be one of the most random and entertaining factions in wrestling.)

Ishii & Rush and Strong & Briscoe paired off, as Cassidy used his jacket like he was El Matador to bullfight Mortos. After flying around multiple revolutions, Mortos was sent to the mat by Cassidy, but Mortos fought back and paired off with Ishii, who hit a big time brainbuster on Mortos. Ishii & Rush had an intense face-off before trading shoulder tackles, neither budging until finally Ishii wins the battle. Ishii no sold a spine kick and we get a forearm and chop battle. Ishii was sent outside, leaving Briscoe & Rush to trade shots. Rush briefly played to the crowd, but ultimately was sent outside, as Briscoe wanted a dive, but Strong met him with a pump knee. Briscoe battled back with a Blockbuster off the apron to the floor on Strong and a launch off a chair onto Mortos & Rush into commercial.

Back from break, Rush & Mortos had taken control over Cassidy, who used his speed to fight them off, with a Stundog Millionaire on Mortos and dove for a Briscoe hot tag. Briscoe fired up until Ishii made a blind tag and he started absorbing Strong’s forearms before hitting everyone with German suplexes. Strong spun out of a piledriver, but Cassidy appeared with a spinning DDT and Briscoe with the Froggy Bow and Ishii with the Sliding D, but Mortos & Rush broke up the count. Mortos wiped out Briscoe with a dive and caught a diving Cassidy, allowing Rush to hit a plancha onto the whole pile. Strong hit an Angle Slam on Ishii and Tiger Driver to follow for a near fall. Ishii spun out of End of Heartache with a headbutt, as Briscoe & Mortos both tagged in, while the match broke down with high impact moves until Rush cut off a Jay Driller, allowing Mortos to hit a spinning sitout reverse piledriver (think Awful Waffle) for the win.

-The Acclaimed & Daddy Ass are backstage and put over how they’re coming to Collision and are looking for FTR in their own home terrirtory, but they’re nowhere to be found. FTR are scarred of the Blood & Guts MVPs, but want to be welcomed by the guys who said The Acclaimed weren’t serious wrestlers. Caster said FTR aren’t serious, as they didn’t show up in their hometown to get their asses kicked by The Acclaimed. Bowens said they’ll come to FTR on Saturday night on Collision. Bowens said it’s time to nut up or shut up.

Renee Paquette Interviews Mariah May

Earlier in the day, Paquette is seated backstage with May, who asked what more does she have to explain, as it’s been very clear since day one. May wanted to be just like Toni Storm and gained her trust, only to slice her open and wear her skin. Paquette asked what Toni Storm did to May and she said nothing, she gave May everything she wanted. May was told the business would eat her alive, so she guessed it was time for her to eat back. May said she’s not answering anymore questions and Paquette just got up and left.

Timeless Toni Storm came charging out to the stage, crying, saying that May said she loved her and Storm loved her to. They said to find what you love and let it kill you. At All In, it’s going to be the romance of a bloody lifetime. Storm held up her bloody shoe and AEW Women’s Title before storming off. This was all super quick and I assume they’re behind on time.

-Footage of Mercedes Mone & Britt Baker being separated at Comic-Con was shown and Tony Khan making the TBS Title match official for All In.

Kamille (w/Mercedes Mone) defeated Brittany Jade

Commentary talked about the size of Kamille, despite Mone wearing massive heels again to look almost just as tall as her heater. Anyways, Mone took a seat on the steps as Kamille rushed Jade at the bell with Mone laughing. Kamille spun Jade out of the corner by her neck before hitting a leaping leg lariat and sit out Dominator for the win.

Mone stepped on Jade with her heel as Kamille raised her hand. Mone told the fans to welcome the newest member of Mone Corporation, “The Brickhouse” Kamille. For weeks, Mone has been victimized by Britt Baker, despite trying to be diplomatic, as Baker is obsessed with her. Mone said Baker’s actions at Comic Con got her suspended by her EVPs. Mone said AEW is her house now and she’s going to turn this place into a mansion. Even losing to Mone will be the greatest thing to happen in Baker’s career, because Mone is everything. The crowd was really quiet for this promo.

**********

Darby Allin defeated Hangman Adam Page

(Excellent main event and first televised meeting between these two AEW originals. Like most Allin matches, he took some insane bumps in this one. Page’s motive of being out for revenge for what Strickland did to his family and willing to take it out on any and everyone cost him the match, as the slow attack allowed Allin to get the victory. I think it’s safe to assume this won’t be the last meeting between these two and can’t wait for when it happens again, whenever that might be.)

Allin used his speed in the early going to send Page to the floor, as he wanted a Coffin Drop, but Page caught him and hit a release German suplex. Allin crawled up the ramp, as Page stalked him down with a chair, but argued with referee Bryce long enough for Allin to fly in with an over-the-top stunner. Allin climbed the set and hit a Coffin Drop off the entrance tunnel as things went to break.

Back from commercial, Page was in control and hit a spinning sleeper before just punting Allin. Dueling chants from the crowd, as Allin fought back, floating over a suplex and springboard splash for two. The lights in the arena went out briefly and commentary were confused, as they came back on and Allin was sent into the ring steps. Taz talked about how maybe a fuse blew backstage. Page set up the ring steps, whipped Allin in, but Allin vaulted over, leapt off and was caught by Page, who repeatedly powerbombed him on the edge of the ring before a violent fall away slam onto the edge of the steps. Bryce checked on Allin as things went to picture in picture.

Allin beat the count and Page controlled the entire commercial, as things returned to an avalanche fall away slam. Allin rolled to the apron and again Page looked to the set-up steps, wanting another fall away slam, but Allin escaped, sweeping Page’s legs out onto the steps. Page sat up and Allin flew through the ropes for a dive off the steps in a great camera shot. Back in the ring, Allin took his belt off and whipped the hell out of Page before a Code Red got two. Allin wanted a Coffin Drop, but Page caught him into a sleeper, only for Allin to roll into a pin attempt for two. Allin tried a Buckshot, but Page turned him inside out with a lariat for a close near fall.

Page hit a powerbomb before following it up with a Deadeye, only to hold on and hit another one. Page kept staring daggers through Allin as commentary it’s the look of the face of a man who is not well. They said Page kept looking at kids in the crowd and maybe it reminds him of what Swerve Strickland put his child and family through, thus making him more violent, seeking revenge. Page wanted a Buckshot, but Allin collapsed. Page took too long to follow up and pull Allin up, who cradled Page for the flash pin. Page was furious and chucked chairs into the ring, as Allin was helped up the ramp by ref, with Allin flipping Page off to end the show.

Hangman Page to face Darby Allin on AEW Dynamite

A big matchup has been added to the card for AEW Dynamite this week.

For the first time ever on AEW television, Hangman Page will go one-on-one with Darby Allin this Wednesday night. The match was announced by Tony Khan after Page and Allin were on opposite sides of last week’s Blood & Guts.

Team AEW (Allin, Swerve Strickland, Mark Briscoe & The Acclaimed) defeated Team Elite (Page, The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada & Jack Perry) in Blood & Guts. It set up that Allin will challenge Perry for the TNT title at All In on Sunday, August 25.

Also last week, Allin won the Royal Rampage match to earn an AEW World Championship shot at Grand Slam this September. Strickland is the current AEW World Champion and has a title defense against Bryan Danielson set for All In.

Page is no longer a member of The Elite but agreed to be on their Blood & Guts team so that he could get his hands on his arch rival Strickland.

The only other time Page and Allin have faced each other one-on-one was on the Chris Jericho Cruise in 2020.

Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina is hosting Dynamite this Wednesday. Here’s what’s been announced for the episode:

AEW Dynamite (Wednesday, July 31) —

  • Hangman Page vs. Darby Allin
  • Will Ospreay vs. Lance Archer
  • CMLL Women’s title eliminator: Willow Nightingale vs. Kris Statlander
  • Mark Briscoe, Orange Cassidy & Tomohiro Ishii vs. Rush, The Beast Mortos & Roderick Strong
  • Bryan Danielson speaks live
  • Mercedes Mone & Kamille appear
  • Mariah May sit-down interview with Renee Paquette

Darby Allin wins Royal Rampage, challenging for AEW World title at Grand Slam

Darby Allin has earned a future AEW World Championship match.

Allin won the Royal Rampage battle royale on Friday’s taped AEW Rampage episode, earning a shot at the AEW World Championship at Dynamite Grand Slam set for Wednesday, September 25.

Allin last eliminated Claudio Castagnoli of the Blackpool Combat Club to win the Royal Rampage. It is the second consecutive Royal Rampage victory for Allin, who won the 2023 edition to earn a TNT title shot at last year’s All Out pay-per-view. Brody King won the inaugural Royal Rampage in 2022 for a shot at the Interim AEW World Championship then held by Jon Moxley.

Current AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland is set to defend the title against 2024 Owen Hart Foundation tournament winner Bryan Danielson at All In next month, and Allin is likely next in line for the winner of that bout.

Brian Cage and Jeff Jarrett were the other members of the final four in the Royal Rampage match, with Castagnoli eliminating Cage, and Jarrett being eliminated by an interfering Hangman Page.

TNT Championship match added to AEW All In

A TNT Championship match has been added to the AEW All In lineup.

TNT title holder Jack Perry will defend against Darby Allin in London at Wembley Stadium at AEW All In on Sunday, August 25 as announced during Wednesday’s Blood & Guts edition of Dynamite.

Allin handcuffed Perry to the cage wall during the Team AEW vs. Team Elite Blood & Guts match on Wednesday’s episode, then doused the champion with gasoline.

Allin extorted both an All In title bout and the submission victory for Team AEW from EVP Matthew Jackson of Team Elite by threatening to set Perry on fire.

Allin previously set Perry on fire with a flamethrower during the Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing in May.

Four bouts, all title matches, are set for All In to this point. The current pay-per-view lineup:

AEW All In, Sunday, August 25 —

  • AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland defends against Bryan Danielson
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Mariah May
  • AEW American Champion MJF defends against Will Ospreay
  • TNT Champion Jack Perry defends against Darby Allin

  • TNT Sports issued a statement vowing to take “appropriate action” over the situation. WBD does not believe that the NBA can reject its attempt to match Amazon’s offer:
    • We have matched the Amazon offer, as we have a contractual right to do, and do not believe the NBA can reject it. In doing so, they are rejecting the many fans who continue to show their unwavering support for our best-in-class coverage, delivered through the full combined reach of WBD’s video-first distribution platforms including TNT, home to our four-decade partnership with the league, and Max, our leading streaming service. But then I actually started watching Hook and I really like his style. I like his demeanor, his style, everything about him. He’s like the next generation, right? Darby Allin says he’s ‘got a lot of stuff planned’ for AEW Blood & Guts

Darby Allin is prepared for his first-ever cage match on AEW Dynamite.

Allin is scheduled to be part of Team AEW at Blood & Guts tonight in Nashville. He opened up to Sports Illustrated recently about the match.

“I’ve got a lot of stuff planned,” said Allin. “I’ve never even been in a cage match before. Never. It’s a fun challenge. And you know me, I love a challenge.”

“This is really important to me. I want to be the face of this company. I want to be the spokesperson for this place. Look what AEW has allowed me to do inside the ring, and the freedom I get outside the ring. That’s why I’ve been able to be authentic and real to myself.”

In addition to tonight’s Blood & Guts match, Allin is preparing for a likely showdown with Jack Perry in Wembley Stadium later this summer. At Collision on Saturday, Allin challenged Perry to a TNT title match at All In. When asked about Perry, Allin stated that he has been “rewarded for bad behavior” and that he “does not care for him.”

“It’s pretty cool to see what Jack is doing now,” he said. “Everyone always says a pro wrestler is at their best when they’re themselves turned up to ten. In real life, he’s an idiot. He’s entitled. So he’s getting to be his real self. I feel like he’s been rewarded for bad behavior. I don’t care for him.”

Allin is coming off a win over The Beast Mortos on AEW Collision this week. He now has a 7-3 AEW record on the year.

The full interview with Sports Illustrated is available here.

Darby Allin: Current AEW shows ‘are just so much better’ than early years

Darby Allin believes the current-day AEW product is a huge improvement over the promotion’s early years.

Considered a pillar of the AEW roster, Allin has been with the company since its introduction. He told Uproxx that the shows AEW offers now “are just so much better” than they used to be. Allin feels the beginning stages of AEW were about figuring things out. Now, the wrestlers who weren’t good enough are gone from the promotion.

“The shows are just so much better. I feel like you kind of have to throw crap at the wall and see what sticks for the first few years,” Allin said.

“To get on Dynamite, you really have to be good. It’s no longer, ‘Oh, you know, I’m friends with this guy, so I’m gonna give him a hand out and just put him on the show,’ it’s not about that anymore. You gotta put up, you gotta perform and you gotta actually bust your ass or you’re not gonna get on the show and a lot of the people that were not good were weeded out the first couple of years.”

After launching in October 2019, Dynamite celebrated its 250th episode last week. Will Ospreay, one of the biggest recent additions to the AEW roster, wrestled on the show in a match that went nearly 60 minutes. MJF defeated Ospreay to become the new AEW International Champion.

“It lasted like an hour and it was insane,” Allin said about the Ospreay vs. MJF match. “This isn’t a friggin’ spring break for your buddies to hang out. We’re putting our souls in that ring. If you don’t have that chip on your shoulder, I do not want you in the locker room for sure.”

Allin is set to compete in Blood & Guts on Dynamite this Wednesday. It will be Team AEW (Allin, Swerve Strickland, Mark Briscoe & The Acclaimed) vs. Team Elite (The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada, Jack Perry & Hangman Page).

Darby Allin challenges TNT Champion Jack Perry for AEW All In

Darby Allin has issued a challenge for All In.

In his first match back since Double or Nothing, Allin defeated The Beast Mortos on Collision. After the match, he talked about the upcoming Blood & Guts match on the next AEW Dynamite then directed his attention to Jack Perry and the TNT title, saying the title meant everything to him. He said he knew All In was right around the corner and challenged Perry to a match, saying if Perry had the balls, let’s play.

After recovering from a broken ankle and being hit by a bus, Allin returned to the ring at Anarchy in the Arena back in May. His legs ended up being tied to the steel cage hanging above the ring as Perry, who had previously been set on fire by Allin during the match, pinned Danielson to win the match for The Elite.

In the weeks following Double or Nothing, Perry qualified for the ladder match to determine a new TNT Champion, winning the title at Forbidden Door.

Darby Allin vs. The Beast Mortos added to AEW Collision

Darby Allin will return to the ring for the first time since Double or Nothing on Saturday’s AEW Collision.

AEW’s Tony Khan announced a Darby Allin vs. The Beast Mortos singles match for the Saturday, July 20 Collision in a social media post.

Allin descended from the rafters in the closing segment of Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, officially joining Team AEW for next week’s Blood & Guts match.

Allin has been out of action since competing in Anarchy in the Arena at Double or Nothing in May.

The debut of Holo.grm, a Unified Trios Championship bout, Skye Blue vs. Hikaru Shida, plus a Deonna Purrazzo vs. Thunder Rosa lumberjack match are already set for Saturday.

The updated lineup for the Saturday, July 20 AEW Collision:

  • AEW Unified Trios Championship match: The Patriarchy’s Christian Cage, Killswitch & Nick Wayne vs. The Bang Bang Gang’s Juice Robinson, Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn
  • Lumberjack match: Deonna Purrazzo vs. Thunder Rosa
  • Holo.grm debuts
  • Skye Blue vs. Hikaru Shida
  • Darby Allin vs. The Beast Mortos

Darby Allin medically cleared to return at AEW Dynamite 250

Darby Allin says he’s medically cleared and ready to make his AEW return at Dynamite 250.

Although Allin is not advertised for a segment on tonight’s show at the Simmons Bank Arena in Little Rock, he told Friday Night Fights yesterday that he is planning on making his return at the event.

“Tomorrow in Little Rock, Dynamite 250, it’s actually my return again,” Allin said on the show.

“I broke my foot two months ago and then got hit by a bus and broke my nose and then returned to the ring. I had one match and I was hung upside down with a rope by my ankles and then kicked in the face with shoes that had superglued thumbtacks to the bottom of them.”

Allin revealed that the thumbtacks injured the septum of his already broken nose.

“The thumbtacks got stuck in my lip and it kind of messed up my septum, and blood was squirting everywhere. So I am medically cleared after all that and I am back to rock in Little Rock. It’s going to be fun. I got a lot of crazy stuff planned.”

Allin has had an eventful 2024 thus far. He originally planned to climb Mount Everest earlier this year but ended up having to abandon those plans after suffering a broken foot in his match against Jay White at AEW Big Business. He was then hit by a bus the following month and suffered a broken nose. Despite those injuries, he still wrestled in the Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing as a replacement for Eddie Kingston, who broke his leg at NJPW Resurgence on May 11.

Allin’s full interview with Friday Night Fights is available below.

Darby Allin returns on AEW Dynamite, promises The Elite ‘we are just getting started’

Image: AEW

For the first time since a brutal Anarchy in the Arena match that saw him hung upside down by a winch above the ring, Darby Allin made his return to AEW on Wednesday’s Dynamite with a specific target in mind: The Elite.

Allin appeared in a backstage segment as Elite stooge Brandon Cutler was laid out with black and white paint on his face. The camera then panned up to show Allin who referenced a TNT Champion Jack Perry line about sacrifice and said Cutler just made his.

“The Elite…you really thought this was over? Dynamite 250…I promise you we’re just getting started,” he said.

Allin, FTR and Bryan Danielson failed to defeat The Elite at the aforementioned Anarchy match at May’s Double or Nothing. Perry was a part of The Elite and was set ablaze by Allin’s flamethrower at one point. Allin’s nose was feared to be broken during the bout, but he was given a clean bill of health afterward as it was just “messed up” according to our Bryan Alvarez.

Injury update on Darby Allin following AEW Anarchy in the Arena match

An MRI showed that Darby Allin did not suffer a broken nose during Sunday’s Anarchy in the Arena match at AEW Double or Nothing as some had feared.

Our Bryan Alvarez revealed the news during last night’s Wrestling Observer Radio, saying that while Allin’s nose did get “messed up” during the match, the MRI alleviated concern about a possible break. Alvarez said Allin got a “clean bill of health.”

Allin shared a picture of his face the next day on social media, seen above. He wore a protective mask adorned with tacks during the match as he was recently struck in the face by a bus.

Allin, FTR and Bryan Danielson fell in defeat to The Elite (Jack Perry, Young Bucks & Kazuchika Okada) in the night’s main event. The violent affair featured a flamethrower, an exploding chair, tables, sneakers with tacks in the bottom, and Allin hanging feet-first upside down for several minutes from a winch among the craziness.

Alvarez opined that Allin must have been in excruciating pain when he was hanging upside down with all the blood rushing to his head. He also noted that Allin doesn’t appear to be all the way recovered from a broken foot as he said Allin was sprinting down to the ring for Sunday’s match and then slowed down as if he realized he needed to.

The night also saw Adam Copeland sustain a broken tibia in his barbed wire steel cage match with Malakai Black when he landed nearly feet-first after diving off the top of the cage onto a prone Black laid out on a table.

The Elite defeat Team AEW at Double or Nothing Anarchy in the Arena match

Image: JJ Williams

In a wild brawl, The Elite defeated Team AEW in the Anarchy in the Arena headliner of Sunday’s AEW Double or Nothing.

The end came when Jack Perry hit a running knee strike on a bloodied Bryan Danielson, who had already been hit with a Kazuchika Okada Rainmaker and a Young Bucks’ EVP trigger, to get the pin and win.

Perry’s legs had been lit on fire earlier in the match by Allin’s flamethrower after Perry grabbed Tony Khan from the gorilla position and brought him out to the ramp.

The match started at just after midnight Eastern which is traditionally when AEW pay-per-views wrap up, lasting until 12:32 AM Eastern. The match featured a little bit of everything on a card that had already featured a barbed wire steel cage match in addition to an FTW rules match earlier on the show.

Some of the notable highlights and spots included:

  • Darby Allin, wearing a protective mask that also had tacks sticking out of it, hoisted up by a winch legs first, leaving him prone to a Bucks’ superkick to the face courtesy of their new Reebok Pumps with thumbtacks on the bottom. Allin remained upside down for minutes on end, leading to fans chanting “Please help Darby.”
  • Matthew Jackson hitting Dax Harwood with an exploding chair, followed by a superkick to Cash Wheeler. That led to a thumbtack-adorned sleeve put on by Okada who used it on Wheeler. Okada then pulled out a shoebox with the aforementioned Pumps with tacks on the bottom.
  • Danielson using one of the Pumps against both Bucks with Nicholas getting superkicked by Matthew accidentally, busting him open.
  • Allin and Perry brawling into the loading dock area earlier in the match where Allin dunked Perry in a tank full of water. As a play on Allin recently being hit by a bus, Perry later drove a small bus painted black with ‘Scapegoat’ on it through pallets and other junk with the announce team speculating he ran over Allin. The camera focused on the driver’s seat and that Perry had knocked himself out on the steering wheel.
  • After powerbombing Allin through a collection of chairs, the Bucks brought him up to their entrance and sent him down through the elevator-style hole they come up through.
  • Nicholas Jackson jumped off one of the entrances with a senton atomico through Wheeler who was on a table while Okada elbow-dropped Dax Harwood through a table off the stage.

Team AEW came out early during Perry’s intro to get things started. When Allin’s music began, the majority of the song played when Matthew Jackson requested they play their music instead. Danielson then requested they play the greatest song in the history of wrestling and Europe’s “The Final Countdown” began playing for several minutes until Jackson asked for it stop because it cost $200,000 every time it played. That led to fans to chant “we want music.”

This was the third Anarchy in the Arena match, dating back to 2022.
