Paul Heyman praises Danhausen: ‘He is ridiculously popular’

Paul Heyman commented on why he believes so many people love Danhausen during a recent appearance on ESPN’s Unsportsmanlike.

Heyman appeared on the show Wednesday to promote WWE Backlash, which streams this weekend on the ESPN app. During the conversation, one of the hosts asked Heyman for his opinion of Danhausen, and Heyman responded that Danhausen breaks up the monotony in WWE.

Heyman said:

“He is ridiculously popular and I understand why. And listen, if everybody is just crazy and insane and aggressive and bitch-slapping everybody else around them, well then there’s no letup, then there’s no break, then it becomes monotonous.

You know, the old expression, I’m gonna hit you with so many rights, you’re gonna beg for a left to break up the monotony. And so there’s Danhausen.

And Danhausen is different and unique. And they teach you that at, what, four or five years old in school. Hey, be yourself. Be different. You know, stand out from the crowd. He’s not trying to fit in. He’s different. He’s unique. And look how many people are in love with him because of it.”

Danhausen will wrestle his third WWE match on Saturday at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida. He’s scheduled to team with a mystery partner against The Miz and Kit Wilson on the show.

Danhausen defeated Wilson in his first WWE match on the April 10 edition of SmackDown. He followed that up with a win over The Miz on the April 24 edition of SmackDown.

Heyman’s full appearance on ESPN Unsportsmanlike is available below.

Major WWE star the odds on favorite to be Danhausen’s tag partner at WWE Backlash 2026

Danhausen has been looking for a tag team partner to join him at WWE Backlash 2026 to face The Miz and Kit Wilson. According to odds from MyBookie, Punk is -200 to appear as Danhausen’s mystery tag team partner on the night.

Punk is not currently confirmed for any other matches on the card, so there is a good chance that he ends up being the tag partner. Danhausen and Punk have a longstanding friendship going back years and Punk was one of the major voices backstage pushing to bring the Very Nice, Very Evil character into the company, so it’s not out of the question that he could help put over the Danhausen character even more on the PLE this weekend.

Danhausen Mystery Tag Team Partner Odds

Other notable odds for the potential mystery tag team partner include:

  • CM Punk -200
  • Jelly Roll +400
  • John Cena +2000
  • Stephen A. Smith +5000

WWE Backlash Card

The card for Backlash on Saturday, May 9th currently stands as follows:

  • World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jacob Fatu
  • Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker
  • United States Championship: Trick Williams (c) vs. Sami Zayn
  • Danhausen must find a partner against The Miz and Kit Wilson
  • IYO SKY vs. Asuka

Two new matches announced for WWE Backlash

Two new matches are set for next weekend in Tampa.

On SmackDown, Sami Zayn brought the Gingerbread Man outfit to the ring and eventually became irate over being disrespected. He took out his frustrations on the Gingerbread Man outfit, ripping it apart. Trick Williams came to the ring for the “save” but somehow determined the Gingerbread Man was “injured” as if he were an actual physical being. Later backstage, Trick Williams appeared at WWE’s medical area and said Zayn had crossed a line, setting up their match for next Saturday.

Later, the announcers confirmed that the Gingerbread Man had “died” and a funeral would be held next week on SmackDown.

Also on Friday, The Miz and Kit Wilson were once again fooled by Danhausen, falling for a trap they had set up for him and covering themselves in powder as a result. As Danhausen was throwing out merchandise, the two arrived and started to argue with one another, with The Miz saying he wanted to become Danhausen’s mentor. But it was all a trap as Miz laid out Danhausen with the skull crushing finale, leaving him laying.

Backstage, Nick Aldis told Danhausen he could face the two at Backlash, but would need a tag team partner.

WWE Backlash (May 9)

  • World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns defends against Jacob Fatu
  • United States Champion Trick Williams defends against Sami Zayn
  • IYO SKY vs. Asuka
  • Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker
  • The Miz & Kit Wilson vs. Danhausen and a tag team partner TBD

Paige and Stephanie McMahon are all praise for Danhausen

WWE veterans Paige and Stephanie McMahon are all praise for Danhausen.

Recently returned at WWE WrestleMania 42, Paige followed it up by appearing on What’s Your Story? with Stephanie McMahon. Both women soon engaged in a discussion regarding their lives before arriving at the topic of Danhausen.

Danhausen was revealed as WWE’s latest addition at the 2026 Elimination Chamber PLE and has since then become a regular act on weekly WWE TV.

I love that you brought Danhausen here,” Paige said. “I’m glad that the fans came around really quickly.” Stephanie McMahon followed up and added, “I think they just didn’t know, at first, or why we were doing it… Because he’s really good, and he’s got this crazy charisma.”

And only he can pull that kind of character off, too,” Paige said. To which McMahon responded, “That’s what I mean… and then, to see him work, he was pretty good.”

Praising Danhausen’s wrestling skills, the British wrestler also claimed, “He’s a great worker too. They’ll see eventually when he starts wrestling some more, but yeah, I love that the fans came around and they love him and stuff because I was like, ‘He’s such a good dude. I love that guy.’”

Danhausen reacts to Paige and Stephanie McMahon’s praise

Danhausen quickly took notice of Paige and McMahon’s praise and quickly reacted to it on social media.

“Danhausen loves [Stephanie McMahon] and [Saraya]. Thank you for your very nice, very evil words. Let Danhausen know if you ever need anyone cursed!”

Report: Fanatics reaction to Danhausen merchandise sales at WrestleMania 42

Danhausen merchandise was reportedly in high demand at WrestleMania.

WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reported that Fanatics was “blown away” by how well his products sold during the weekend. According to the report, several restocks of Danhausen merchandise were required due to high demand.

It was also stated that Danhausen is expected to be added to the lineup for Fanatics Fest, which takes place July 16-19 in New York City. Tickets for autographs and photo ops with WWE stars officially go on sale tomorrow, April 24, while a presale began April 22.

News of the strong WrestleMania weekend sales comes after earlier reports that WWE was “pleasantly surprised” by Danhausen’s early merchandise numbers shortly after his company debut at Elimination Chamber in Chicago on February 28.

Danhausen was involved in an in-ring segment on night two of WrestleMania on Sunday April 19, along with The Miz, Kit Wilson, and John Cena.

John Cena & Danhausen WWE WrestleMania 42 segment ‘evolved into something bigger’

A member of Danhausen’s WWE WrestleMania group disclosed plans on how the segment came about. He detailed The Miz approaching them backstage with ideas to hype the comedic moment.

In an interview with Rewind Recap Relive, Richard Fitzwell of MicroMania Midget Wrestling cited the initial plans for the Danhausen segment evolved as they ran through rehearsals. He cited that The Miz came up with the idea of the little people carrying him out of the ring after Danhausen’s attack, and did a trial run in the dressing room.

“It was phenomenal. It was supposed to be something simple, just walk out with him down the ramp and it evolved into something bigger.”

“We had The Miz come to our dressing room, he asked us if we could pick him up. He started that. Backstage, we lifted him up and he said, ‘Alright, I’m gonna go to production and see if we can add it to the skit.’ Then we went to rehearsal, John Cena was sidestage, Danhausen asked John Cena to be part of the production.”

“Then they asked if we would come into the ring and then one of the gentlemen gets pushed, and then one of our other guys punched Kit in the lower area, then we pummel him. Then, again, we go to Miz and carry him out.”

“So that was all built out, evolved, like I said – it was simple and then it evolved into something big. And to have John Cena out there, plus The Miz, and Danhausen, that’s like a dream come true.”

Fitzwell appreciated Cena and Triple H commending their work after the segment. He added that Triple H looked forward to their return for another collaboration in the company.

“And then after the fact, John Cena and Triple H came to us and said, ‘What a great job and we would love to have you back in the future.'”

Later, Cena cited the Danhausen segment as one of his favorite moments from WWE WrestleMania 42.

John Cena calls Danhausen segment one of his favorite WWE WrestleMania moments ever

John Cena’s hosting duties at WWE WrestleMania 42 on Night Two took an unexpected yet surprising turn with Danhausen’s inclusion.

Cena tweeted a photo Danhausen shared years ago, with the caption that the WWE segment was one of his favorites from WrestleMania 42.

“One of my favorite #WrestleMania moments ever. So happy we got an updated photograph together.” posted Cena.

On Night Two, Cena’s hosting duty was interrupted by The Miz and Kit Wilson. Miz was frantic about his omission from having a WrestleMania moment. Cena shook hands with him and extended an invitation to comply with his request. Danhausen emerged with a group of little people dressed like him.

He finally got his wish to meet Cena. The Miz, however, was left furious at the disrespect. The segment concluded with the little people attacking Wilson at Danhausen’s command. And he progressed to imitate Cena’s signature ‘You can’t see me’ phrase and hit the five knuckle shuffle on Miz with Cena’s approval.

The Miz’s issues with Danhausen stemmed from their first encounter on the March 6 edition of SmackDown. Danhausen’s eagerness for Miz to be his mentor was not well received and as a result he was cursed.

John Cena ‘truly enjoyed’ WWE WrestleMania 42 from different perspective

John Cena returned to host WWE WrestleMania 42 after retiring from in-ring competition in December 2025.

On Night Two of the PLE, Cena had a segment with The Miz, Kit Wilson and Danhausen. The Miz interrupted him addressing fans expressing gratitude for their support. Danhausen showed up with a group of little people dressed exactly like him. Following WrestleMania, Cena tweeted that he enjoyed the experience from a host’s perspective and gave Danhausen a special shoutout.

“An incredible weekend! Truly enjoyed WM thru a different perspective. What a turnout of 106,072! To ALL those who saw it live …. Thank you for the Hausen”

Danhausen made his WWE debut at Elimination Chamber and continued his comedic tactics by cursing whoever opposed him.

WrestleMania 42 culminated with five new champions emerging. Paige returned on Night One to replace Nikki Bella in the Women’s Tag Team Title match given her foot injury. Paige and Brie Bella ended up winning the titles.

Later in the night, Liv Morgan defeated Stephanie Vaquer to become a 3-time Women’s World Champion. Trick Williams’ WrestleMania debut was eventful as he won his first singles WWE title – the United States Championship. Rhea Ripley ended Jade Cargill’s reign as WWE Women’s Champion.

WrestleMania Sunday’s main event saw Randy Orton unable to capture his 15th World Championship win. However, post match he attacked Cody Rhodes and left him with an orbital injury, forcing him out of in-ring action in the near future.

On Night Two, Roman Reigns was triumphant over CM Punk to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.

Danhausen meets John Cena, confronts The Miz & Kit Wilson at WWE WrestleMania 42

Danhausen has crashed WrestleMania 42.

Prior to Sunday’s main event, John Cena came out to announce the attendance numbers. Once he did that, The Miz and Kit Wilson arrived and said they wanted to create their own WrestleMania moment. Cena allowed them to, but was soon interrupted by Danhausen, who came to the ring with a group of little people dressed exactly like Danhausen.

The Miz and Wilson berated Danhausen and his group, leading him to curse both Miz and Wilson. One of the little people then proceeded to punch Wilson square in the genitals, sending him rolling out of the ring. Danhausen then punched Miz low as he looked at Cena, who gave him his blessing to do a five knuckle shuffle on Miz.

Danhaused then told Cena he couldn’t see him as pyro went off in the ring, seemingly his cue to vanish. But as usual, Danhausen’s plans didn’t go that way. Danhausen instead fled under the ring to end the segment.

Cena ended up announcing Sunday’s attendance as 55,255, combining both nights attendance at 106,072.

CM Punk on Danhausen: ‘I think his impact has yet to be felt’

CM Punk spoke about Danhausen in a recent interview.

The World Heavyweight Champion appeared on ESPN’s Unsportsmanlike on Friday and was asked about his friendship with Danhausen. Punk responded that Danhausen is perfect for WWE.

Punk said:

“I think his impact has yet to be felt. Man, he’s perfect for WWE. He is perfect for what we do. Sometimes you find a talent that has always kind of belonged here and you never really realized it.

He’s somebody who to me is a throwback. He’s a bit of a gimmick, but he’s so entertaining and you can put him in any single situation and it’s more about how other people react or don’t react to him.

Hopefully, I said enough nice things about him he’s not going to curse me.”

Danhausen appeared in a scene that aired on SmackDown as The Miz and Maryse were renewing their wedding vows. The segment ended with Maryse going face-first into the cake.

Punk will headline night two of WrestleMania on Sunday. He is scheduled to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns on the show.

The full episode of ESPN’s Unsportsmanlike is available below. The player is cued to Punk’s comments about Danhausen.

Report: Danhausen planned for WWE WrestleMania 42 segment

Danhausen is reportedly headed to WWE WrestleMania 42.

According to PWInsiderElite.com, Danhausen will have a segment at WrestleMania 42. He was discussed for an appearance with a few wrestlers, whose identities remain unknown. He will be featured at WWE World with items from his debut – the crate and coffin, on display. Additional props including the jar of teeth, a meet-and-greet booth along with a face painting area for fans will be available.

Danhausen made his WWE debut at Elimination Chamber this year. He emerged from a crate that had been delivered to Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis the previous week with the instruction to not open until the Premium Live Event.

Since then, he showed up on Raw and SmackDown in backstage appearances with varied wrestlers, and the unfortunate few getting cursed. Last week, he made his in-ring debut in a singles match against Kit Wilson on SmackDown. After being ‘cursed’ mid-match, the pyro near the ringpost accidentally went off resulting in Wilson’s match loss.

WOL: Corporate wrestling & the backward psychology of SmackDown

It’s the Saturday Wrestling Observer Live with Jim Valley.

As backward as WWE SmackDown was last week, this week’s psychology was just as puzzling if not worse. The heel gets discount tickets for fans, tells fans not to buy WrestleMania Sunday and rips the main event wrestlers without saying anything positive about them.

This build is breaking virtually every rule when it comes to promos.

Plus, Danhausen, WCW 1998, AEW Collision, Dynasty, TNA Rebellion, AAA, and more.

WWE SmackDown notes: Sami Zayn & Lil Yachty, Jordynne Grace, Danhausen

Notes from Friday’s WWE SmackDown.

Prior to the show Jordynne Grace made her in-ring return, squaring off against Zelina Vega in a match that will air on Main Event. Grace had been gone for the last month after suffering an ankle injury during a match against Alba Fyre that was also taped for the same show.

Later on SmackDown, Sami Zayn came out for a promo and declared that he didn’t care what fans thought about him because he only cared about those who had his back since day one. Trick Williams and Lil Yachty then arrived, with Williams promising he was going to whoop Zayn at WrestleMania.

During Williams’ match against Matt Cardona, the former NXT Champion dared Zayn to take him on. Zayn got on the apron but it was a trap, as Yachty tripped Zayn back to the floor. Zayn responded by laying out Yachty with the helluva kick on the outside. Williams was rolled up by Cardona due to the distraction but Williams quickly took out Cardona anyway with the trick shot for the win.

Danhausen wrestled his first match on Friday against Kit Wilson, who had the better of the mysterious new WWE star towards the end. However, Danhausen proceeded to curse Wilson again, leading to pyro bursting out of the turnbuckle and sending Wilson crashing to the ground. Danhausen then scored his first-ever WWE win with a running kick. After the match, the Miz popped up and looked to take out Danhausen, who proceeded to vanish before Miz could get to him.

WOL: Pat McAfee hates WWE so much he wants to save it

It’s the Saturday Wrestling Observer Live with Jim Valley.

Pat McAfee being Randy Orton’s “mystery caller” on WWE SmackDown has elicited two opinions from the fans: 1) It was the worst SmackDown ever or 2) Why can’t you just enjoy things? Nobody hates wrestling more than wrestling fans!

We’ll talk about why McAfee was the choice and who made the decision. We’ll also touch on Trick, Melo, Danhausen and the rest of the show as well.

Plus, a big surprise at Sakura Genesis, Billy Jack Haynes news, RIP “Flying” Fred Curry, NXT Stand & Deliver, and that’s not close mto all of it.
