Six-woman tag match added to NXT TakeOver: In Your House

A sixth match has been added to the card for NXT TakeOver: In Your House.

It was announced on NXT tonight that Mia Yim, Tegan Nox & Shotzi Blackheart will face Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez in a six-woman tag match at the TakeOver special. It’s taking place on Sunday (June 7).

The match was announced after those six wrestlers were involved in a brawl on tonight’s NXT. Yim vs. LeRae on tonight’s show ended in a double countout when they fought outside of the ring. They fought to the top of the stage, with LeRae reversing a powerbomb and giving Yim a hurricanrana into the video screen. Nox came out to stop LeRae from attacking Yim further, then Kai, Gonzalez, and Blackheart all got involved.

A mixed tag match between Yim & Keith Lee and LeRae & Johnny Gargano then took place on NXT tonight. LeRae rolled up Yim to get the win after Yim was distracted by Gargano stabbing Lee in the eye with his car keys.

Lee is defending his NXT North American Championship against Gargano at TakeOver: In Your House. Here’s the updated card for the show:

  • NXT Champion Adam Cole defending against Velveteen Dream in a Backlot Brawl (if Cole wins, Dream can’t challenge for the NXT Championship again as long as Cole is still champion)
  • NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defending against Rhea Ripley and Io Shirai in a triple threat match
  • NXT North American Champion Keith Lee defending against Johnny Gargano
  • Tommaso Ciampa vs. Karrion Kross (w/ Scarlett)
  • Finn Balor vs. Damian Priest
  • Mia Yim, Tegan Nox & Shotzi Blackheart vs. Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez

Prime Target feature, Yim vs. LeRae announced for next week’s NXT

WWE has made a couple of announcements for next week’s go-home episode of NXT.

Two title matches that are set for TakeOver: In Your House will be built up by a Prime Target special feature that’s airing on NXT next Wednesday. The Prime Target feature will focus on hyping up Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Io Shirai for the NXT Women’s Championship and Adam Cole vs. Velveteen Dream for the NXT Championship.

TakeOver: In Your House is taking place on Sunday, June 7.

Mia Yim vs. Candice LeRae has also been announced for next Wednesday’s episode of NXT. Yim and Keith Lee have been involved in a feud against LeRae and Johnny Gargano. It appears that Lee will defend his NXT North American Championship against Gargano at TakeOver.

Plus, next week’s NXT will feature the finals of the interim Cruiserweight Championship tournament. Group A winner Drake Maverick is facing Group B winner El Hijo del Fantasma in the finals.

WWE NXT video highlights: Ciampa vs. Gargano

Last night’s NXT featured two big matches that were originally scheduled for TakeOver: Tampa.

One of those was Tommaso Ciampa vs. Johnny Gargano in what was billed as the match that would settle their rivalry. It was presented in cinematic fashion and took up the last hour of the show.

Near the end of the match, Candice LeRae pleaded with Gargano and Ciampa to stop. She asked Gargano what he’s become and told Ciampa to finish it. When he wouldn’t, LeRae said she would finish it instead. She then gave Gargano a low blow.

But when Ciampa checked on Gargano, LeRae low blowed him too. It was then revealed that Gargano was wearing a cup. Before the match began, LeRae had given Gargano something in a paper bag that wasn’t revealed at the time.

Gargano pinned Ciampa after hitting the Fairy Tale Ending on the exposed ring. As Gargano and LeRae went to their car after the match, it appeared that they passed another car that Killer Kross and Scarlett Bordeaux were inside of.

LeRae was also in action in the number one contender’s ladder match earlier in the night. Io Shirai won the ladder match and is first in line for a shot at new NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair.

Full lineup set for NXT number one contender’s ladder match

The full lineup is set for NXT’s number one contender’s ladder match.

By winning a second chance gauntlet match on NXT tonight, Dakota Kai became the final wrestler to qualify for the ladder match. The ladder match is airing on NXT next Wednesday and will feature Chelsea Green, Mia Yim, Tegan Nox, Io Shirai, Candice LeRae, and Kai.

Shotzi Blackheart defeated Deonna Purrazzo at the start of the gauntlet match tonight. Blackheart then eliminated Xia Li, Aliyah, and Kayden Carter before the match came down to her and Kai.

Blackheart avoided interference by Raquel Gonzalez, but the distraction allowed Kai to get the win.

The ladder match was originally supposed to take place at NXT TakeOver: Tampa. Tommaso Ciampa vs. Johnny Gargano will also air on NXT next week, with their match being billed as “Blackheart vs. Rebel Heart: One Final Beat.”

NXT Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley is defending her title against Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 36. The winner of that match will defend their title against the ladder match winner at some point in the future.

Io Shirai returns, Shirai and Candice LeRae qualify for NXT ladder match

Io Shirai returned to action on NXT tonight and qualified for the upcoming number one contender’s ladder match.

A qualifying match between Xia Li and Aliyah had originally been announced for the episode, but there was an angle where it was shown that Li had been attacked backstage. Aliyah was happy about the attack and wanted to win by forfeit. It was then announced that Li wasn’t cleared to compete — but the returning Shirai was.

Shirai defeated Aliyah with a moonsault.

This was the first time Shirai has wrestled since she suffered a knee injury on January 22.

In tonight’s second qualifying match, Candice LeRae submitted Kayden Carter with the Gargano Escape. Chelsea Green, Mia Yim, Tegan Nox, Shirai, and LeRae have now qualified for the number one contender’s ladder match. The final spot will be decided when Li, Aliyah, Carter, Dakota Kai, Deonna Purrazzo, and Shotzi Blackheart face off in a second chance gauntlet match next week.

The ladder match was originally scheduled to take place at NXT TakeOver: Tampa. WWE has announced that — starting next Wednesday — the matches that were planned for TakeOver will air on NXT television over the next several weeks. The ladder match is airing in two weeks (Wednesday, April 8).

NXT Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley is defending her title against Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 36. WWE hasn’t announced when the winner of the ladder match will be getting their title shot.

Two qualifying matches announced for this week’s NXT

Qualifying matches for NXT’s number one contender’s ladder match will resume tomorrow night.

Candice LeRae vs. Kayden Carter and Xia Li vs. Aliyah have been announced for this Wednesday’s episode of NXT. The winners will qualify for the number one contender’s ladder match that was originally supposed to take place at NXT TakeOver: Tampa.

Chelsea Green, Mia Yim, and Tegan Nox have already qualified for the ladder match. WWE announced today that — starting on April 1 — matches that were planned for TakeOver: Tampa will air on NXT television over the next few weeks.

LeRae had originally been scheduled to face Mercedes Martinez in a qualifying match on NXT last week.

Li defeated Aliyah on NXT in November, with WWE doing an angle where it was said that a spin kick from Li broke Aliyah’s nose. This will be Aliyah’s first match on NXT TV since then.

NXT Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley is defending her title against Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 36. The winner will defend their title against the ladder match winner at some point in the future.

WWE is also hyping that Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano will have to answer to Triple H on NXT tomorrow following their brawl at the Performance Center two weeks ago.

Candice LeRae vs. Dakota Kai announced for NXT

Ahead of her street fight against Tegan Nox at TakeOver: Portland, Dakota Kai will be in action on tonight’s go-home episode of NXT.

Candice LeRae vs. Kai has been confirmed for NXT tonight. The match comes after LeRae got involved in Nox vs. Kai on NXT two weeks ago. LeRae stopped Kai from using a steel chair, then Nox hit Kai with her knee brace while the referee was distracted.

LeRae vs. Kai was announced during LeRae and Johnny Gargano’s appearance on this week’s edition of WWE’s The Bump. Gargano vs. Cameron Grimes was also teased for tonight, with Gargano saying he put in a request to face Grimes after WWE posted video of an angle over the weekend where Gargano and Grimes got into a confrontation at an NXT house show.

A Cruiserweight title number one contender’s match between Lio Rush and Angel Garza is official for tonight’s NXT. Adam Cole also tweeted at Kushida today: “In a really bad mood…and I hear Kushida has a problem with what happened last week. Ok tough guy, how about tonight you try and do something about it? I bet you won’t. @WWENXT #nxtonusa”

Bate vs. Grimes, Shirai vs. LeRae set for next week’s NXT

Two matches that were set up by angles on tonight’s NXT have been made official for next week.

Tyler Bate vs. Cameron Grimes and Io Shirai vs. Candice LeRae have both been announced for next Wednesday’s NXT. The Women’s Tag Team titles will also be defended in NXT for the first time, with Asuka & Kairi Sane defending against Dakota Kai & Tegan Nox next week.

Bate was shown arriving to Full Sail with Pete Dunne on tonight’s episode. Later in the show, Bate was sitting in the front row for Matt Riddle vs. Grimes.

After Riddle won, Grimes refused to give him a fist bump. Riddle then fist bumped Bate. Grimes and Bate argued, and Bate laid out Grimes with a punch after Grimes shoved him.

Shirai interfered and attacked Rhea Ripley during Ripley’s match against Bianca Belair tonight, but LeRae came out to neutralize Shirai. Ripley defeated Belair after hitting Riptide.

NXT Women’s title match announced for October 2

Candice LeRae is the new number one contender to the NXT Women’s Championship.

LeRae defeated Mia Yim, Bianca Belair, and Io Shirai in a fatal four-way number one contender’s match at the start of tonight’s NXT on USA Network premiere. It was later announced that LeRae will get her title shot against Shayna Baszler on the Wednesday, October 2 episode of NXT.

LeRae pinned Yim to win the number one contender’s match. Baszler, Marina Shafir, and Jessamyn Duke then came out to the stage, with Baszler and LeRae going face-to-face.

Baszler has been NXT Women’s Champion since defeating Kairi Sane at WWE’s Evolution pay-per-view in October 2018. This is Baszler’s second reign with the title.

October 2 is the first night that NXT is airing live on USA Network for the full two hours. Due to the final two episodes of the USA Network series “Suits,” the second hour of this and next week’s NXT episodes are airing on WWE Network.

AEW will also debut on TNT on October 2. It will go head-to-head with NXT.

Candice LeRae added to NXT number one contender’s match

A fourth participant has been added to the number one contender’s match for next week’s live episode of NXT.

It will now be Mia Yim vs. Bianca Belair vs. Io Shirai vs. Candice LeRae in a fatal four-way match next Wednesday (September 18). The match was originally announced as a triple threat prior to LeRae being added.

There was a segment on this week’s NXT episode where LeRae went into William Regal’s office and asked him to explain why he keeps rewarding Shirai’s behavior. Regal agreed with LeRae and made the match a fatal four-way.

Regal said he might change it to a fatal five-way if Ripley defeated NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler in their non-title match in this week’s main event. Baszler won by disqualification when Ripley stopped Baszler from using a steel chair and used it herself instead. Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke had come down to the ring and distracted Ripley before that.

WWE has yet to announced when the winner of the number one contender’s match will challenge for Baszler’s title.

For the September 18 and September 25 episodes of NXT, the first hour will be live on USA Network and the second hour will be live on WWE Network. NXT will then move to airing live on USA Network for the full two hours starting on October 2.

Velveteen Dream defending his North American Championship against Roderick Strong has been announced for the USA Network portion of next week’s episode, while a street fight between Matt Riddle and Killian Dain will be on the WWE Network part of the show.

During this week’s NXT episode, it was also teased that The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) will challenge for Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish’s Tag Team titles next Wednesday.

Candice LeRae vs. Io Shirai added to NXT TakeOver: Toronto

Candice LeRae and Io Shirai will be facing off at NXT TakeOver: Toronto.

LeRae vs. Shirai was announced for the special on tonight’s episode of NXT. LeRae was waiting for Shirai in the parking lot, but William Regal told LeRae that Shirai wasn’t allowed anywhere near the building tonight. LeRae asked to face Shirai at TakeOver, and Regal granted her request.

Shirai turned heel against LeRae on the June 26 episode of NXT. Shirai lost a steel cage match against NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler on that show. After the match, Shirai attacked LeRae and beat her down with a steel chair.

Their storyline then continued on last week’s episode, with LeRae attacking Shirai while Shirai was facing Kacy Catanzaro. LeRae went and got a steel chair, but Shirai was able to get away from her.

Baszler will defend her title against Mia Yim at TakeOver.

TakeOver: Toronto is taking place at the Scotiabank Arena on August 10, which is the Saturday of SummerSlam weekend. Here’s the updated card for the special:

  • NXT Champion Adam Cole defending against Johnny Gargano in a two-out-of-three falls match (one fall will be a street fight, the other will be a normal wrestling match, and William Regal will pick the stipulation if it goes to a third fall)
  • NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler defending against Mia Yim
  • NXT North American Champion Velveteen Dream defending against Roderick Strong and Pete Dunne in a triple threat match

The Street Profits vs. Barthel & Aichner and LeRae vs. Aliyah will presumably be taped at the Barclays Center before TakeOver: New York tomorrow, while Lee vs. Dijakovic should be filmed at NXT’s TV tapings at Full Sail University next Wednesday.

Aliyah and Vanessa Borne interrupted LeRae during an interview on last night’s episode. LeRae was asked about Johnny Gargano’s NXT Championship match against Adam Cole at TakeOver and discussed her own goal of becoming NXT Women’s Champion.

Lee and Dijakovic went to a double countout on the February 27 episode of NXT. They were supposed to have a rematch at March’s TV tapings, but the match didn’t end up happening.
