TNA Bound for Glory live results: Bobby Lashley vs. Ethan Carter III; Cody Rhodes debuts

Preview by Joseph Currier

Amid turmoil over a potential sale of the company, TNA presents its biggest event of the year on Sunday night with Bound for Glory live on pay-per-view from the Impact Zone in Orlando, FL.

We’re looking for your thoughts on he show, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to [email protected]  We’re also looking for your thoughts on the ROH All-Star Extravaganza show.

While much of the focus has been on whether or not TNA would be sold before the show, the PPV will be headlined by a TNA World Championship match pitting Bobby Lashley against Ethan Carter III with no holds barred.

The PPV will also feature the finals of the Grand Championship tournament. Drew Galloway was originally scheduled to face Aron Rex for the newly created title, but Galloway was replaced by Eddie Edwards after having to pull out of the match due to an injury.

The next chapter in the Broken Matt and Jeff Hardy saga will also take place as the Hardys battle Decay in the “Great War.” And Cody Rhodes will make his first appearance in a TNA ring.

**********

X DIVISION CHAMPION DJ Z VS. TREVOR LEE

Very good opener where they did the modern X style with dives and reverse huracanrana spots. They traded three dives early. DJ Z kicked out of a powerslam. The finish saw DJ Z hit the Canadian Destroyer and the ZDT with a jumping DDT for the pin.

– McKenzie Mitchell is backstage with Drew Galloway. She’s very unconvincing. He said he doesn’t feel very good, and the doctor told him “a little to the left or a little to the right” and he would have been out for a year. He said he chose to fight but the company said no. He said he asked to hold back the tournament final and they said no. In reality, he knew he couldn’t wrestle tonight. He then said Billy Corgan is buying the company.

10 MAN GAUNTLET MATCH FOR A TNA TITLE SHOT

Eli Drake won the match by throwing Jessie Godderz and Tyrus over the top to win. So, he has a title shot whenever he wants…but has to give the promotion one week.

The match wasn’t good at all as nothing much happened. Rockstar Spud, Grado (who lasted about two seconds), Mahabali Shera, Robbie E, Baron Dax, Basille Baraka and Braxton Sutter were also in the match. There were no highlights.

– Jeremy Borash called out Robert “Batista” Irvine. He said he and his kids are here for Gail Kim’s induction into the Hall of Fame and tonight, he’s Mr. Gail Kim, not Robert Irvine. Maria Kanellis showed up with Mike Bennett. Irvine told them that tonight will be a bad night for both of them. Maria said she was the greatest Knockouts champion of all-time, while Mike said that Maria was the greatest female wrestler of all-time and he was the best pro wrestler in the world.

MIKE BENNETT VS. MOOSE

Moose won with a tree slam off the rope and the discus clothesline. They traded moves back and forth. The crowd was into the “Moose” chant but not the match. Even when Bennett used a piledriver and Moose kicked out, there wasn’t any pop. It was an okay match.

– We got an Aron Rex interview and said the Grand Championship title is going to revolutionize the way the sport is viewed. He talked about how he and Eddie Edwards were trained by the same guy. After the interview, Josh Mathews did mention Killer Kowalski even though Rex didn’t.

ARON REX VS. EDDIE EDWARDS IN THE FINALS FOR THE GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP

This will be a five minute round match instead of a three minute round match. Rex won the match winning the first and third rounds. Borash is doing a UFC style interview. (I just hope Rex doesn’t thank Jesus Christ or say he’ll face whoever Joe Silva and Dana White puts him against.)

Match was average at best, but this format didn’t work. It’s good to tell jokes while watching it, but it didn’t help for the crowd. Edwards wasn’t bad but they never built any crowd momentum. After the third round, when Jeremy Borash went to read the scorecards, the graphics listed 30-27 for Rex even before Borash announced it as a split decision for Rex.

GAIL KIM HALL OF FAME INDUCTION

Christy Hemme returned for the ceremony. They piped in fake crowd noise as she did an interview. Hemme introduced Taryn Tarrell, expecting her second child. Terrell said Gail Kim was a career maker, that she was a beginner and Kim gave her matches she could be proud of. She said she was the greatest woman wrestler of all-time. This got barely even polite applause.

Awesome Kong showed up, looking totally different like she’s lost a lot of weight. Kong said Kim was awesome and elevated every opponent to their best level possible and said how proud she was. Dixie Carter was out next. She said Gail was the perfect combination of beauty, brains, athletic ability, and unselfish. Chef Irvine, no relation to Chris Jericho, was shooting photos from ringside.

Dixie said she defined a generation of woman wrestlers and made the Knockouts the greatest women’s division of all-time. (Yes, TNA Knockouts and early 90s All Japan women is a close call.) The talking heads in the video were Hemme, Josh, Jeremy Borash, Pat Kenney, Dixie, Jade, Madison Rayne, Al Snow and Billy Corgan,

Corgan said Kim vs. Kong changed the way people think about women wrestlers around the world. This was easily the best thing on the show so far.

Gail Kim came out. Fans are chanting “You deserve it.” (Why are they piping in fake crowd noise? You’d want the crowd quiet and respectful.) She said wrestling has brought her creativity, self confidence, strength, fearlessness, and true passsion. She started thanking people, Ron Hutchinson, Rob Etcheverria, Fit Finlay (people popped for that name), Scott D’Amore, Pat Kenney/Simon Diamond, the crew, the production people, seamstresses, make-up people, “You make my job not a job. I love my life.”

She thanked Dixie Carter, Dutch Mantell, Jeff Jarrett, her stepdaughters, her goddaughter and her husband which got a big pop. “I’ve never met someone so inspiring and motivating as you.” She thanked Trish Stratus, Molly Holly, Victoria, Jazz and all the women she learned from. “They’re my sisters and I appreciate that I could share a locker room with these wonderful women.” Then she gave a special shoutout to Molly: “She’s the reason I’m in this business and why I got this opportunity. She taught me to be a good person in the ring or outside of the ring. She said if you’re a good person, success will follow.”

This was as well done as it could have been.

MATT & JEFF HARDY VS. TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS ABYSS & CRAZZY STEVE IN THE GREAT WAR

This was something.

The Hardys won the titles when Jeff came off the top of a 15 foot ladder with a swanton onto Steve through two tables for the pin.  A lot of this match was pre-taped stuff out of the building which included Matt brawling with Abyss in the park in the back of a pickup truck, and Vanguard 1 blowing mist in Rosemary’s eyes. Matt made a barbed wire board sandwich with Abyss, and came off the top rope with an elbow on him.

Jeff had some magic water poured on him that allowed him to disappear and throw pumpkins at Steve. (Get it, smashing pumpkins?) Jeff showed up as a bunch of different characters. They came back in the ring, and Rosemary did a coast to coast dropkick into a garbage can like she was RVD. At another point, Rosemary gave Abyss “Janice”, but Matt set Janice on fire and threw the board out of the pickup truck. That may have been the idea that Janice and the Carters are dead. Who knows? Hopefully they won’t get mad at Matt’s ideas and threaten to sue.

– Bobby Lashley interview.

KNOCKOUTS CHAMPION MARIA KANELLIS VS. GAIL KIM

Maria said her hand was broken and the doctor wouldn’t clear her. Allie then said she must have misread it and she was cleared. Maria got mad about that. Anyway, the match started.

This match was pretty bad. Maria is just so limited. Mike Bennett threw a hand brace into the ring, and Maria used it but Kim kicked out. Allie got the brace and Maria wanted it again. She threw it over Maria’s head to Kim. Kim teased handing it to Maria, but instead threw it out of the ring. Kim used Eat Defeat, which Maria sold badly or it missed, for the pin.

– Bennett said he was shutting the show down and nobody could stop him. Cody & Brandi Rhodes showed up. Cody was really over to the crowd.  Maria yelled at Cody and told him to go back to WWE. Brandi got in her face, and Maria attacked her. Brandi threw a knee. Cody & Bennett brawled.  Cody used the disaster kick on Bennett and they left the ring.

TNA CHAMPION BOBBY LASHLEY VS. ECIII

They laid this out as a big show main event where each guy kicks out of big moves. Lashley won clean with a spear off the middle rope and nearly landed on his head when delivering the move. ECIII had kicked out of two spears earlier. He hit the One Percenter, did a spear, and also used a splash off the top rope.

The problem is these two didn’t work together well at all. They weren’t in the right position a lot, and the selling in a lot of cases looked mechanical. The crowd wasn’t much into it either. Even with all the kicking out of big moves, this wasn’t a good match and didn’t feel like a big show main event.

There was no Alberto del Rio at the finish even though he evidently no-showed the AAA show tonight.

We’ll have a full recap of the show on tonight’s Wrestling Observer Radio.

TNA Impact Wrestling live results: Team EC3 vs. Team Lashley on the Road To Glory

Previously on Impact: Last week in the main event, Ethan Carter III and Moose defeated Mike Bennett and TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Lashley. Plus, a video aired announcing the upcoming debut of Cody Rhodes at Bound For Glory.

Tonight: The future of TNA Impact is in serious question. However, tonight’s show is still heading full steam towards Bound For Glory. It’s a special Impact dubbed the Road To Glory. It will feature Team EC3 taking on Team Lashley in a Lethal Lockdown match.

Show Recap:

Jeremy Borash is in the ring and welcomes us to Road To Glory. He brings out the team captains for Lethal Lockdown, EC3 and Lashley. Josh Mathews informs us that each team will include one Knockout. The winning team captain gets to pick the stipulations for the BFG main event.

– Team Lashley: Lashley, Drew Galloway, Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis-Bennett

– Team EC3: EC3, Aron Rex, Moose and Gail Kim.

EC3 challenged Lashley to start the Lethal Lockdown match later tonight against him. Lashley agrees.

TNA X Division Champion DJ Z defeated Eddie Edwards

Edwards countered out of the ZDT twice. Edwards gained the advantage and set up for the Boston Knee Party, but DJ Z hit the ZDT on his third try to win the match. After the match, DJ Z and Edwards embraced, but Trevor Lee and Andrew Everett jumped them and beat them down.

– In the back, Maria forced Allie to apologize for last week when Gail got the upper hand. Laurel Van Ness showed up and Maria told Allie to do whatever Laurel asks.

– Earlier today, Mathews interviewed Bennett and Moose in the ring. They argued about who is going to win on Sunday at BFG, and both promised to win.

Laurel Van Ness defeated Madison Rayne

Allie introduced Laurel who handed Allie her makeup brush. Madison sent Laurel to the outside. She was flustered and made Allie powder her face. Laurel took over on Madison and won the match. After the match, Allie announced Laurel has the winner, but pronounced her name wrong. Laurel flipped out on Allie and made her do the announcement again.

– In the back, Lashley promised to give either Bennett or Galloway a title shot for the one that injures EC3 in Lethal Lockdown.

– Drew Galloway came to the ring where the Grand Championship is on a stand. Drew wastes no time and calls out Aron Rex. Drew said that when he first came to TNA, it had cracks in the foundations, but because of him, it’s now the best wrestling show on TV. They argued back and forth until Drew picked up the Grand Championship. They brawled briefly but Drew caught Rex with a piledriver. Drew held tight to the belt and walked away with it in the end.

– We get a creepy video from Decay. They recap destroying Bram and kidnapping Senor Benjamin. Rosemary promised to beat Reby so bad that not even Maxel will recognize her.

Reby Hardy (w/Broken Matt and Brother Nero) defeated Rosemary (w/Decay) by DQ

Reby ran down to the ring and jumped Rosemary to start the match. Reby hit the Twist of Fate on Rosemary and had her beat. Crazy Steve distracted Reby and when she turned around, Rosemary spit the mist in her eyes for the disqualification.

After the match, Rosemary set up a table. Matt and Jeff fought Abyss and Steve to the back. Rosemary and Reby fought on the apron until Rosemary put Reby through the table with the side effect.

– In the back, Lashley won the coin toss so his team gets the advantage in Lethal Lockdown. EC3 tells Lashley he looks forward to starting the match with him.

– Crazy Steve and Jeff fight in the back. Steve hits Jeff with a sick chair shot. Inside, Matt and Abyss fight. Matt uses a ladder to knock Abyss down and bites him. Steve bashed Jeff’s head against a wall with a chair. He put the chair around Jeff necks and smashed him into the wall. Abyss pulled out a cable and shocked Matt with it. This included special effects.

– They re-aired the video announcing Cody’s debut at Bound For Glory.

– Earlier today, Maria and Gail had a face-to-face interview in the Impact Zone. Maria promised that Gail wouldn’t go into the Hall of Fame as champion.

– In the back, Eli Drake tried to hire Tyrus to help him win Bound For Gold at BFG, but Tyrus refused.

Team Lashley defeated Team EC3 in a Lethal Lockdown match

EC3 starts for his team. Lashley comes out, but Mike Bennett starts instead of Lashley. Trash cans, chairs and kendo sticks are hanging from the cage. Drew Galloway enters making it two-on-one for the heels. Aron Rex is out next for his team to even up the odds. Rex runs wild on Galloway and Bennett.

Lashley enters next, making it three against two. Moose is next for Team EC3 and hits anything that moves. Maria is next, but is hesitant to enter. She stays at ringside until the final entrant, Gail Kim, runs down. Gail throws Maria into the ring, but she hides behind Bennett and then escapes from the cage. Gail chases her to the back.

Team Lashley took all the weapons down and triple teamed EC3. Everyone gets hit with their finisher or a big move. Lashley hits EC3 with a spear and locks on a submission. EC3 made it to the ropes but doesn’t break the hold. EC3 passes out and Team Lashley wins the match.

After the match, Lashley announced that the Bound For Glory main event will be No Holds Barred.

Next week on Impact: This could be the final TNA show ever or it could be the final Impact before the start of a new era. This Sunday is TNA biggest event of the year, Bound For Glory.

Your BFG card as of now:

– TNA Champion Lashley vs. ECIII no holds barred
– TNA Tag Team Champions Decay (Abyss/Crazy Steve) vs. Broken Hardys: Great War match/Maxel’s ownership on the line

– TNA Knockouts Champion Maria vs. Gail Kim

– Bound for Gold Gauntlet Match: Moose, Tyrus, Robbie E, Baron Dax, Jessie Godderz, Grado, Rockstar Spud, Mahabali Shera, Braxton Sutter, Eli Drake

Cody Rhodes to make TNA debut at Bound for Glory

Though the teaser they released on Wednesday mostly gave it away, TNA confirmed on Thursday’s episode of Impact that Cody Rhodes would soon be debuting for the promotion.

In a pre-taped video that aired during Impact, Rhodes announced that he would be appearing at TNA’s upcoming Bound for Glory pay-per-view on October 2nd.

Rhodes said, “You don’t know a man until you walk a mile in his shoes. I learn more about me every day, with every mile. My past is just that. My story is being written one step at a time. My future is decided by the roads that I take. I am bound for a new adventure. Where I’m going there is gold, there is glory, because for me, all roads lead to Bound for Glory.”

On their Twitter account, TNA referred to Rhodes simply as “Cody” after deleting a graphic that had announced him by his WWE name.

Dave Meltzer reported earlier this month that Rhodes’ wrestling future would involve working for TNA. The official announcement comes in the same week that TNA confirmed they have signed Rhodes’ wife Brandi as an active wrestler.

The video announcing Rhodes’ debut is available to watch below:

TNA announces Bound for Glory 2016 with Broken Matt Hardy commercial

TNA’s biggest pay-per-view of the year will take place on October 2nd, the promotion announced on Monday afternoon.

Bound for Glory 2016 will be headlined by Ethan Carter III challenging for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship that is currently held by Bobby Lashley. EC3 earned the right to challenge for the title by winning the Bound for Glory playoff series that had been the focus of Impact in recent weeks.

Though no venue has been officially announced, the show will take place in Orlando, FL.

Orlando is home to TNA’s Impact Zone, but Bound for Glory hasn’t been held there since the inaugural edition in 2005.

Gail Kim will also be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame over the Bound for Glory weekend. And the event will likely feature the continuation of the Broken Matt Hardy and “Brother Nero” Jeff Hardy saga in some capacity.

TNA released a commercial with Broken Matt Hardy promoting the event:

TNA Bound for Glory 2015 live results: EC3 vs. Drew Galloway vs. Matt Hardy

TNA’s Signature PPV, Bound for Glory, is live on PPV from Concord, North Carolina. Ethan Carter III defends the TNA World Heavyweight title in a 3 way main event against Drew Galloway and Matt Hardy, with Jeff Hardy as the special guest referee. Bobby Roode defends the King of the Mountain title against Lashley. Kurt Angle, in what may be his final match in professional wrestling, faces Eric Young. The card is rounded out by a Gauntlet match for a World title shot, Gail Kim defending the Knockouts title, The Wolves defending the tag team titles and Tigre Uno defending the TNA X Division title in an Ultimate X match.

The action gets underway at 8PM ET. We are looking for your thoughts on the show, as well as the Madison Square Garden show, the UFC 192 show, and AAA’s Heroies en Mortlaes so send a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle as well as a best and worst match to [email protected]

ULTIMATE X OPENS THE SHOW FOR THE TITLE:  DJ ZEMA ION VS. MANIK VS. ANDREW EVERETT VS. TIGRE UNO

This was one big move after the other.  It looked like Uno  got hurt doing a 450 off the top rope to the floor on Ion but it was his role to win.  Somehow he gutted himself to climbing the rope and pulling the belt down.  He had to be helped off he cable after he won.  Just a series of big  moves.  Everett looked really good including doing a springboard shooting star press.  Uno and Everett were both on he cable and Uno kicked Everett off and he took a big bump on his back off the cable.

Shane Helms came out and was called the longest reigning cruiserweight champion in the history of pro wrestling.  He was called  Gregory Shane Helms and he looked like he was Kevin Nash standing next to Uno.  They shook hands.

The arena is being kept really dark.

Ethan Carter III came out with the belt.  He complained about Dixie making it a three way with Jeff Hardy as referee.  I have no idea why he did this interview.

Thus far no hint of the secret third announcer.

GAUNTLET FOR THE GOLD, A ROYAL RUMBLE STYLE MATCH FOR A TITLE SHOT:

Ken Anderson vs. Jessie Godderz are starting.  The order of entrance after was Eli Drake, Al Snow, Aiden O’Shea, Robbie E, Mahabili Shera, Tyrus, Chris Melendez, Tommy Dreamer, Abyss and  The Pope.  The Pope came in from his announcing desk and then eliminated himself because he was scared of Tyrus and  Abyss.  This match was awful, even worse because a world title shot was at stake and it was total comedy.  At one point everyone in the ring was doing the Shera dance.  Dreamer was pretending he was Dusty Rhodes with polka dots, even though Dusty made it clear he hates the polka dots.  The story was  Tyrus played monster, eliminated a ton of people and then pinned Anderson when they were the last two.  So he can pick whoever he wants to challenge.  EC 3 came out and said how they were challenging for the tag titles but Tyrus said he’s done EC 3 all kinds of favors and wants a world heavyweight title shot.

EDDIE EDWARDS & DAVEY RICHARDS VS. TREVOR LEE & BRIAN MYERS FOR TAG TITLES

Real good match as you’d expect.  They got heat on Edwards most of the way.  A lot of good near falls and a strong showing by Lee.  The finish saw Richards use a superplex off the top on Lee and then he and Edwards used Chasing the Dragon on Lee and Richards pinned him.

Drew Galloway interview talked about the title match said a Triple Threat is a no DQ match, I’m willing to kill myself.  That was supposed to mean something.  He said he was given curve balls of Matt Hardy being added to the match and Jeff Hardy being made referee.

BOBBY ROODE VS. BOBBY LASHLEY FOR THE KING OF THE MOUNTAIN TITLE

Roode retained his title clean with the Roode bomb.  This was a match where they kept kicking out of each others’ moves.  This could have been a great match with a different crowd, but this crowd just wasn’t into it until the very end due to no face vs. heel dynamic.  Roode used the Roode bomb and Lashley kicked out.  Lashley used a spear but Roode kicked out.  Roode used a spear and Lashley kicked out and Lashley used a Roode bomb and Lashley kicked out.

Matt Hardy out for an interview.  Put over how big the night is, grew up in Cameron, we wanted to be world tag team champions just once, then we both wanted to be world champions and Jeff has done it a few times.  Tonight is my night.  Can’t think of a better place to do it than tonight, said his father, his wife and baby are all here and Jeff is the referee.

They showed the Earl Hebner Hall of Fame thing.  They showed maybe 20 seconds of it.  Billy Corgan came out and wanted to show highlights of Earl Hebner’s career.  Claimed Earl was a household name.  Called him the greatest referee in history.  He came out to the ring to a nice reaction.

GAIL KIM VS. AWESOME KONG FOR KNOCKOUTS TITLE

Bad match.  Kong is just hurting so bad she can’t do much of anything.  Kim retained with eat defeat and a small package.  They did a spot where Kong went for a chair but Chef Robert Irvine grabbed the chair from her.  Earl Hebner argued with Irvine and Kong gave her an implant buster on the floor onto chairs but Kim still kicked out of the pin.

ERIC YOUNG VS. KURT ANGLE

Kurt came out and announced it was a no DQ match.  Young piledrove Angle and they sold it like Angle was injured.  The doctor came out and stopped the match but the bell never rang.  They were helping Angle out but Young attacked the doctor and Pat Kenney who were helping Angle out.  Young attacked Angle and Angle told him the match was over.  But the match continued.  Angle made a comeback and escaped from an attempted piledriver off the middle rope and reversed out of a sunset flip and grabbed the ankle lock.  Young made the ropes, but since it was no DQ, Angle never broke the hold and pulled him to the center and got the tap.  So Angle won even though it was stopped nine minutes earlier.

EC 3 VS. DREW GALLOWAY VS. MATT HARDY FOR THE TNA TITLE

Matt won the title by pinning Galloway.  Thne he brought his son and wife in the ring.  Then the Hardys brought their dad into the ring.  The match had its moments and Matt and Kurt were really the only guys to get strong reactions on the show.  They did a lot of near falls.  EC 3 complained to Dixie Carter and John Gaburick and threw Gaburck over a table.

Matt kicked out of the one percenter.  Then EC 3 wanted to get DQ’d so he kicked Galloway low right in front of Jeff, but it was no DQ to begin with.  EC 3 got a chair but Jeff took it away.  EC 3 thne told Jeff to hit Matt with a chair which made no sense.  EC 3 slapped Jeff in the face.  Jeff hit EC 3 with a chair and Matt hit the twist of fate on EC 3.  Galloway then hit EC 3 with a running kick and Hardy used the twist of fate on Galloway for the pin.

TNA vs. Global Force Wrestling match announced for Bound for Glory pay-per-view

Barely one week after the “blow-off” of the TNA vs. Global Force Wrestling feud on television, TNA has announced a new match for the Bound for Glory PPV on October 4th in Concord, NC, as Eddie Edwards & Davey Richards will defend the TNA Tag Team Championship against Trevor Lee & Brian Myers, who are billed as GFW wrestlers.

The teams wrestled twice on television at the last set of tapings, with Lee & Myers scoring a fluke title win, but then dropping them back before the blow-off Lethal Lockdown match that aired on 9/16.

The two organizations seem to be maintaining an alliance, which behind-the-scenes is described as cordial but uneasy, because they both have reason right now to benefit from working with the other.

Bound for Glory also features:

– Gail Kim vs. Awesome Kong for the TNA Knockouts Title

– Tigre Uno defending the X-Division Title in an Ultimate X match

– Ethan Carter III vs. Drew Galloway for the TNA World Heavyweight Title

– Bobby Roode vs. Lashley vs. the TNA King of the Mountain Championship
