  • Big E just appeared on Cincy 360, a radio show on ESPN 1530 based out of Cincinnati. He was on to promote the Raw show on 1/31/22, the first show after Royal Rumble.
Put over how proud he is of Xavier Woods and how he’s legit wanted to win King of the Ring for years, and he just kept pushing when everyone said he was too small, or not good enough to get it done. Said he loves him and gave him a big hug at the gorilla position in Saudi Arabia when he won KOTR.
When asked who he wants to win Royal Rumble and challenge him at WrestleMania, he immediately said Cesaro. Said he can do it all and has been one of the best for years and hasn’t gotten his due.
Said the match vs Roman at Survivor Series is the biggest of his career. Said Roman has been at the top of the mountain for years and has only upped his game in his current run.
Called going back to Iowa where he played college football, for the game against Penn St the highlight of the cool stuff he’s gotten to do outside of the ring since becoming champion. Also put over being part of Fury/Wilder and his love for college football.
Said it’s a tough balancing act honing his craft in the ring and his outside opportunities like being on the Stephen Colbert show, but if he doesn’t stay focused, this could all go away. Said this current run kind of came out of nowhere, but he feels blessed. Said getting the title changed his life and he doesn’t see himself going back to the way things used to be. FRIDAY NEWS UPDATE

Garrett Gonzalez and I will be doing our show tomorrow. Mick Foley and Pat Laprade will be guests and we’ll be talking about Dominic DeNucci as well as tonight’s show, SummerSlam and more.

We’re doing polls this weekend on both SummerSlam and Takeover, thumbs up, down or middle along with a best and worst match to [email protected]

Nick Khan’s mention about WWE up for listening to offers about buying yesterday got some news. He didn’t say anything that hasn’t been said multiple times since 2016. In fact he used almost the exact words George Barrios, in the same position, had used.  But it did help the stock price which rose to $48.51 per share, up $1.26.

As noted in the current issue, we’ve received conflicting reports on whether the Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks match would take place at SummerSlam. WWE is still advertising it and there were reports both were cleared.  PWInsider reported Banks was not in Phoenix tonight for the Smackdown tapings. Bianca Belair was in Phoenix. Their matches this past week were canceled due to a medical issue.

Something is happening at Rampage at the United Center in Chicago. C.M. Punk is not advertised but it’s a virtual certainty he makes his first televised appearance in seven years.  Jon Moxley vs. Daniel Garcia, Jade Cargill vs. Kiera Hogan and Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus vs. Private Party in the four-team tournament first round are scheduled for the show.

For those in Canada, Rampage will air on TSN on a one-hour delay at 11 p.m.

Smackdown tonight has Rey Mysterio vs. Jey Uso and John Cena and Roman Reigns will talk, plus Edge is on the show.

A woman who was there for the accident where former UFC fighter Brendan Schaub saved three children, mad at people thinking he made it up, talked about the situation.

Kayla Harrison vs. Taylor Guardado will be the women’s 155 pound final for the PFL on 10/27 for $1 million as both won last night. Harrison beat Genah Fabian via first round TKO in 4:01 to move to 11-0 while Guardado beat Marina Morais by close split decision in last night’s semifinals on ESPN.  In the heavyweight  tournament, Bruno Cappelozza vs. Ante Delija will be the heavyweight final.  Cappelozza beat Jamelle Jones via second round TKO and Delija beat Denis Goltsov via straight 29-28 scores.  The winner of that fight on 10/27 also gets $1 million.

SUNDAY NEWS UPDATE

Bryan and I will be back tonight with Wrestling Observer Radio covering the latest pro wrestling and MMA news. You can send e-mail questions to the show to [email protected]. Our weekend show with Garrett Gonzalez talking a ton of different subjects is also up.

For the first week I can recall this happening, nothing from pro wrestling, MMA or boxing cracked the top 20 as far as searches for the day.  UFC wouldn’t be expected to with no show.  Pro wrestling usually only does for a WWE PPV and perhaps an AEW or NXT big show. Wrestle Kingdom has done so in the past but the interest level in the U.S wasn’t there this year as compared to a few years back.

This is the last slow weekend for a long time. UFC will start running every Saturday for a while going forward.  Impact has a PPV this coming week, with UFC having the Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier show on 1/23 which could end up as the biggest number of the year, and Royal Rumble coming the weekend after.

From BetOnline.ag some Royal Rumble odds favorites:

  • Daniel Bryan -125
  • Keith Lee +400
  • Big E +500
  • Edge +500
  • Brock Lesnar +600
  • Bill Goldberg +800
  • A.J. Styles +1000
  • Dwayne Johnson +1000
  • Kevin Owens +1200
  • Roman Reigns +1200

For the women:

  • Bianca Belair +450
  • Rhea Ripley +500
  • Alexa Bliss +600
  • Ronda Rousey +800
  • Shayna Baszler +800
  • Becky Lynch +900
  • Bayley +1000
  • Charlotte Flair +1200
  • Sasha Banks +1400
  • Nia Jax +1600

WWE

  • A CNBC story noting the group that helped organize the violent break-in at the Capitol on Wednesday was donated to by the Linda McMahon led SuperPac.

UFC

  • Hakeem Dawodu is out of his 1/23 fight with Shane Burgos due to a shoulder injury. Burgos is no longer scheduled to fight on the card.
  • With Mike Grundy out of the scheduled 1/23 fight with Nik Lentz, Lentz will now face Movsar Evloev. At this point it has not been reported why Grundy is out of the show.
  • Yancy Medeiros, who lives in Hawaii, was on Friday’s episode of Magnum P.I. He played a trainer of a woman who was being forced to throw a fight by a branch of the Yakuza.  In the original Hawaii 5-O, show based in Hawaii, several episodes had pro wrestlers on it for fight scenes and the like.  There is a funny Pampero Firpo story where he was supposed to be in an episode, but he came in with ideas for creative for his character and I think they just wanted him as an extra to get beat up and suffice to say he never appeared on that show. AEW

  • There was a Rest in Peace Jon Huber graphic on Thursday night’s TV show “Impractical Jokers.”

OTHER NEWS

  • Shawn Daivari was announced as the new Contra member with Jacob Fatu andSimon Gotch in MLW. On Wednesday’s show, Salina de la Renta is supposed to reveal a special surprise for Konnan.

Big shift in odds for WWE Payback match

There was a huge shift in the odds today on the Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss Raw Women’s Championship match in San Jose.

Between 3 a.m. and 7:35 a.m. Eastern time today, Bayley went from a 36-to-1 favorite to retain her championship at Payback, to Alexa Bliss now being a 45-to-1 favorite to win the match (not necessarily to win the title, but most likely).

With such giant odds and such a quick and giant swing, that is almost assuredly smart money coming in after a change in plans.

The first smart money backing Bayley came in between 11 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. yesterday.

Up until that point, there weren’t long odds, meaning that a final decision on the outcome wasn’t known internally. There is a Vince McMahon doctrine, completely the opposite of almost everyone else in wrestling, and the opposite of everyone who books stars in combat sports, where he will usually beat or humiliate performers in their hometown. The mentality behind it is that it’s great for heel heat, which is difficult to get.

There has been no significant movement in any of the odds reported on yesterday, past them becoming even longer in all other matches.

UPDATE: The Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss match has had a change once again since our last update.

As of two hours ago, tons of money has come in on Bayley and Austin Aries to win their matches this afternoon.

Bayley had a big rush coming in at about 6 p.m. to where she went from a 45-to-1 underdog to a favorite, but right now Bliss is back to being a 15-to-1 favorite to win the title. These odds updates came in after the daily update was completed so are more current than those.

Austin Aries has gone from a 92-to-1 underdog to a 20-to-1 favorite over the past few hours.

All the other favorites listed yesterday remain the same.

This indicates a lot of changes have been going on in the last 24 hours.

Thanks to David Taylor at wweleaks.org for the updates on how the money has been coming in.

Huge movement in WWE Payback betting odds

There has been huge movement in the betting odds for tomorrow’s Payback show, including a surprise with heavy money coming in on Chris Jericho in his match with Kevin Owens.

It is also possible that would be a DQ finish because odds are all about who gets their hand raised, and not necessarily a title change.

According to WWEleaks.org, the odds from 5dimes are:

  • Enzo Amore & Big Cass are -7500 against Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson
  • Bayley is -4500 against Alexa Bliss
  • Seth Rollins is -7500 against Samoa Joe
  • Braun Strowman is -2600 against Roman Reigns
  • Neville is -3000 against Austin Aries
  • Bray Wyatt is -5400 against Randy Orton
  • The Hardys are -5400 against Sheamus & Cesaro
  • Chris Jericho is -1200 against Kevin Owens

Odds that long, with the exception of the Jericho match, almost surely indicate smart money coming in, particularly since there has been heavy movement in the last few hours. That doesn’t mean Vince McMahon won’t change his mind tomorrow, but it’s a lock those in the company who need to know, already do.

Updated betting odds for tomorrow’s WWE TLC show

With some long odds now out, it is possible the smart money has already come in for tomorrow’s TLC show.

Usually the “smart money,” which comes in on most, but not all shows, lead to major odds swings usually an hour or two before the WWE show starts. In most cases it would be afternoon production meetings because for those in the know, they know things often change even on the day of the show.

But a few hours ago, there were major odds movements and one-sided odds that are usually not the case until the smart money comes in.

The biggest odds movement was in the A.J. Styles TLC match with Dean Ambrose, where Styles went from -870 to -2750.

Alexa Bliss went from -195 to -1140, which is a big move, for her women’s title match with Becky Lynch. That doesn’t mean she wins the title, only that she’s the one getting her hand raised when the match is over, although tables matches don’t end via DQ so in this case it’s would indicate a title change.

The Miz went from -160 to -825 in his ladder match for the IC title with Dolph Ziggler.

Baron Corbin went from -400 to -1580 in his chairs match with Kalisto.

Bray Wyatt & Randy Orton went from -565 to -1200 in their tag team title challenge to Rhyno & Heath Slater.

The only match that has even close odds at this point is Nikki Bella vs. Carmella, where Nikki Bella moved from -165 to -280.
