Anthony Henry says he’s suffering from condition following previous injury

Anthony Henry has given an update on his health.

On Instagram, Henry wrote that he is suffering from heterotopic ossification, a condition where he has trouble moving his arm and palms. After meeting a doctor, he is hoping to fix the situation soon.

“Heterotopic ossification. That is the condition I have stemming from my initial biceps tear from September 2024,” he wrote. “I cannot turn my arm over to palms up (supination) or turn it fully palms down (pronation). Yes, I can live life, but not like a normal person really. Yes, I can wrestle, but there are times where it causes issues.”

“All of that to say I saw a doctor today that finally is going to fix this shit. I couldn’t be happier about that,” he added. “Soon!”

After spending most of the year out of action with his biceps injury, Henry returned to action in July, reuniting with JD Drake and wrestling on Ring of Honor television. His last match was on the October 8 edition of ROH, where he, Drake, and BEEF lost to Shane Taylor Promotions in a match that was for the ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles.

Anthony Henry & JD Drake ‘100 percent officially cleared’ to return

Injuries have plagued them over the last year-plus, but The WorkHorsemen are now healthy and hoping to get back on the right track.

Anthony Henry announced on Wednesday night that he and JD Drake are both “100 percent officially cleared” to return to the ring. The two are signed to AEW where they wrestle as a tag team on AEW programming and in ROH. Henry has been out of action since October 2024, while Drake most recently competed in November 2024.

“It’s been a long year, but the workhorsemen are both 100% officially cleared to return to the ring,” Henry tweeted. “Let us rejoice!”

Henry was sidelined with major injuries at two different points in 2024, first suffering a broken jaw and later needing to undergo surgery for a torn biceps. He suffered the latter injury while facing Gabe Kidd at an October taping for ROH.

Drake has been out due to a foot injury, but he’ll be back in the ring this Saturday facing Josh Woods at Dean~! 2 in Glendale, Arizona. AEW is partnering with Action Wrestling for the show, which is a tribute to the late Dean Rasmussen of the Death Valley Driver Video Review website.

Anthony Henry gives update on recovery from biceps surgery

After a snakebitten 2024, things are hopefully starting to get better for Anthony Henry.

Henry suffered two major injuries last year, breaking his jaw in March and then suffering a torn biceps in October. The latter injury happened in a match against Gabe Kidd for Ring of Honor. Henry is currently recovering from biceps surgery and going through the rehab process as he works his way back to the ring. He appeared on AEW Unrestricted this week and spoke about last year’s injuries.

“So 2024 was not kind to me, obviously. Also hasn’t been kind to [JD] Drake, unfortunately. It’s weird because in the 22 years that I’ve done this, I’ve never really had a substantial injury,” Henry said. “The closest thing I had to a real injury was when I herniated my disc at the other place with my neck, but I had no time off. Like, I went through the process of getting things done but I wrestled the whole time through. So the first one, when I broke my jaw, [it was] one of those things where I didn’t think that my jaw was broken. It didn’t hurt. I didn’t even know what was going on and then they’re like, ‘Hey, you have this clean break in your jaw and you’re out.’ And I didn’t even know what to think.

“Fast forward however many months and I come back and everything’s good, I’m happy to be back, I’m excited. And then this happened. Again, one of those things — and if you watch the match, which I have several times, you can’t really tell that it happens. But there’s a part of the match where I go and I dive out of the ring onto Gabe Kidd and his back was turned to me, so kind of like fly over his back. And my arm goes kind of like over his shoulder and I guess I catch myself on the ramp. And when I did that, I guess it kind of like did this number [hyperextended] and that popped the tendon right there. It was a clean pop, like it was off the bone. But I didn’t feel it, that’s the weird thing. It’s crazy. Neither one of my injuries — they didn’t hurt.”

Though it wasn’t painful, Henry could see that he was injured and could feel his arm cramping. He finished the match before being evaluated backstage. After some initial hope that he would be fine, an MRI confirmed that Henry needed surgery.

Henry noted that, the day before the podcast was recorded, he did some light work in the ring for the first time since tearing his biceps.

“I got in the ring for the first time yesterday, just kind of playing around,” Henry said. “I just wanted to see what would happen with that. And nothing crazy, we were just kind of like doing some, you know, rolling around and chain wrestling and things like that. And it was fine, so realistically if I wanted to be in the ring right now and I was actually cleared, I’d be fine I think.”

Henry & JD Drake are tag team partners in AEW/ROH as The WorkHorsemen. The two are also aligned with Beef (the former Gnarls Garvin).

On AEW Unrestricted, the 41-year-old Henry said he believes he and Drake can hang with any tag team in the world. He wants to show everyone what they can do in the ring once they are both back in action. Henry mentioned Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, and FTR as some of the people who have supported The WorkHorsemen backstage.

Henry had tweeted near the end of October that he was ahead of schedule in his recovery and was hoping that he could be cleared to return six weeks from then.

Anthony Henry undergoes surgery for torn biceps

AEW/ROH wrestler Anthony Henry is beginning his road to recovery following biceps surgery.

After tearing his biceps earlier this month, Henry underwent surgery today to repair the injury. “Surgery was successful,” he posted on social media. “Now time to recovery.”

The injury happened on October 3 when Henry faced NJPW Strong Champion Gabe Kidd in a match that was taped for ROH television. Before the match aired last week, Henry revealed that he tore his left biceps off the bone and would be out of action for the “foreseeable future.” A more precise timeline for when he’ll be able to return has not been announced.

Henry and his tag team partner JD Drake were scheduled to face FTR for indie promotion Deadlock Pro Wrestling in North Carolina this past Sunday. Because of Henry’s injury, the match was changed to FTR facing Violence is Forever (Dominic Garrini & Kevin Ku).

Recently, the 40-year-old Henry has been teaming with Beef (formerly known as Gnarls Garvin) in AEW/ROH while Drake was out of action due to a torn foot ligament.

AEW wrestler Anthony Henry undergoing surgery for torn biceps

AEW/ROH wrestler Anthony Henry will be out of action for the foreseeable future.

Henry announced today that, in his match against NJPW Strong Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd at last week’s ROH tapings, he suffered a torn biceps and will need to undergo surgery. The match was taped on October 3 and has not aired yet.

“I, unfortunately, have to announce that I’m out of commission for the foreseeable future,” Henry wrote. “During my match with Gabe Kidd this past [week], I tore my left biceps off the bone. Surgery this week, and then I start the road to recovery. I am sorry to any fans I am letting down.”

The news comes as Henry’s WorkHorsemen tag team partner JD Drake is returning from a torn foot ligament. Prior to Henry’s injury, they were scheduled to team against FTR at a show for Deadlock Pro Wrestling in Charlotte, North Carolina this Sunday (October 13).

Henry has recently been paired with Beef (formerly known as Gnarls Garvin) in AEW/ROH with Beef playing the role of Henry’s cousin.

Earlier this year, Henry spent some time out of action due to a broken jaw. He was briefly released by AEW in April, but Tony Khan changed his mind and announced that Henry was being brought back.

JD Drake dealing with torn foot ligament

The Workhorsemen have dealt with their fair share of injuries this year.

JD Drake was injured in the team’s match against Katsuyori Shibata and Daniel Garcia at the May 30 AEW Collision tapings. Shortly after, he took to social media to say his foot “went into business for itself” during the bout.

“I’m hurting something fucking awful. My foot went into business for itself really early in the match. But, there was still work to be done. Thank you @Antnyhenry for having my back always. F the haters! Thank you to the real fans for the support!” Drake wrote on social media.

Anthony Henry provided an update on his partner’s condition on Monday, writing that Drake is dealing with a torn ligament in his foot.

“For those wondering… the #workhorsemen will be back soon enough. Our first match back on Collision, @RealDrake, unfortunately tore a ligament in his foot. 2024 hasn’t been kind to us.”

Henry was sidelined earlier this year as well after suffering a broken jaw in March at an independent show against Bryan Keith. At one point, Tony Khan announced Henry had been released from AEW while he was out injured. The AEW president would go back on that decision a short time later, however.

Henry also revealed on social media recently that Drake was supposed to come with him to WWE when he signed with the company in early 2021. Drake has said in previous interviews that WWE was concerned about the state of one of his knees and that’s why he didn’t sign.

Anthony Henry reveals he’s medically cleared to return

Anthony Henry says he could return as early as this week.

The 40-year-old member of The Workhorsemen has been out of action since March with a broken jaw. He suffered the injury in a match against Bryan Keith at a Deadlock Pro Wrestling event.

Henry announced on Monday that he is now cleared to return.

“Your boy is cleared and might be returning this week…keep your eyes open!” Henry wrote on X.

Henry was one of several names released from AEW/ROH on April 1. However, just days later Tony Khan went back on his decision to cut Henry, revealing on the ROH Supercard of Honor pre-event media call that Henry will return to the company once cleared.

“What a week! Obviously, I was not happy with what happened earlier in the week. However, I am ecstatic about being back! I believe in the locker room at AEW and cannot wait to be back in action,” Henry wrote shortly after news broke that he would be returning to AEW/ROH.

Tony Khan addresses AEW releases, says Anthony Henry will return

Tony Khan addressed AEW’s recent talent cuts during today’s ROH Supercard of Honor media call.

In regards to the releases, Khan said that he needs to keep an eye on the budget so he’s able to continue signing top free agents. He noted that he is expanding the budget overall and plans to be aggressive in going after top talent.

Anthony Henry was one of the wrestlers released earlier this week. He has been out of action since suffering a broken jaw at a Deadlock Pro Wrestling event last month. Khan specifically addressed Henry’s release and said that after thinking about it, Henry will return to the company once he’s cleared.

Henry later confirmed the news, writing:

To those who voiced their support for me this week: thank you from the bottom of my heart. I never knew that what I do impacted so many. I’ve never had anyone rally behind me like that. It is an unreal feeling. I love you all. See you soon!

Khan was also asked about Brandan and Brent Tate being released from the company. The Boys had been part of a long-running angle between Johnny TV and Dalton Castle leading to a match at Supercard of Honor. Khan said that the brothers did not show up for work on multiple occasions and he had to make “a tough call.”

The Boys responded to Khan’s comments on X, with Brent saying they are “far from true.”

Supercard of Honor takes place Friday, April 5 at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It will air live on HonorClub.

Anthony Henry not sure if he’ll continue wrestling after AEW release

Anthony Henry said he was devastated by the news of getting his AEW release and may be done with wrestling altogether.

Henry was part of a small round of cuts by AEW on Monday, ending his run with the company.

The 40-year-old took to X Tuesday in his first public statement since the news, saying he was appreciative of the support and was unsure about his future.

Henry is currently on the shelf after suffering a broken jaw during a March indie match that resulted in himself and JD Drake being pulled from the AEW Tag Team title tournament.

The former Asher Hale in WWE NXT last wrestled for AEW in mid-January and had been appearing more frequently with Drake on Ring of Honor TV. Drake was not part of Monday’s cuts that included Henry, ring announcer Dasha Kuret, Stu Grayson, Jose the Assistant, Jora Johl, Gravity, Slim J, Parker Boudreaux, and The Boys (Brandon & Brent Tate).

AEW & ROH head Tony Khan has yet to comment publicly on the reason for the cuts, but will be on a media call this Thursday to promote Friday’s ROH Supercard of Honor event.

Henry has been a wrestler since 2003.

Anthony Henry provides update after suffering broken jaw

Anthony Henry has provided an injury update.

Henry revealed on Monday that he suffered a broken jaw at a Deadlock Pro Wrestling event over the weekend. He originally wrote that the injury required surgery but posted an update on Wednesday stating that is no longer the case.

Henry wrote:

Update: no surgery is needed, but I still have to have a procedure to reset my jaw with rubber brackets. Recovery time: 8 weeks. See everyone then!

Henry noted the day after suffering the injury that his team with JD Drake will no longer be able to participate in the upcoming tournament to determine new AEW Tag Team Champions.

“Absolutely gutted,” Henry wrote on Monday. “In last night’s match against Bryan Keith, I took a knee strike that broke my jaw. The #workhorsemen had some exciting things coming up. One of which was the @AEW tag team tournament, which we can now not be involved in. I will have surgery soon.”

“I honestly don’t know how I will take this,” he continued. “I’ve never had an injury like this. I don’t know what to do without wrestling, and my biggest fear is that it derails any upcoming plans for [JD] Drake and I. I may be absent from here for a while. I appreciate all the fans who support us!”

Henry and Drake have primarily been working on ROH of late but have had some notable appearances on AEW programming, including on the January 6 episode of Collision when they wrestled Sting and Darby Allin. Henry also wrestled Eddie Kingston at ROH Final Battle 2023.

Anthony Henry suffers broken jaw, out of AEW Tag Team title tournament

Anthony Henry is out of action.

On Monday, the AEW star wrote on X that he will be out of action following a broken jaw, which will require surgery. The injury took place during a Deadlock Pro Wrestling match on Sunday, where Bryan Keith defeated Henry to retain the DPW National title.

“Absolutely gutted,” Henry wrote.

As a team, the WorkHorsemen have recently been wrestling on ROH television. Their latest tag match in AEW was a loss to Sting & Darby Allin on the January 6 episode of Collision.

Sting & Allin vacated the AEW Tag Team titles after defeating The Young Bucks in Sting’s retirement match. A tournament to crown new champions will begin on Collision this Saturday. The bracket for the tournament has yet to be revealed.

On AEW Collision this Saturday night, Sting will wrestle in the city of Charlotte for the final time.

Sting is currently on a retirement tour that will conclude with him having the last match of his career at AEW’s Revolution pay-per-view in Greensboro, North Carolina on Sunday, March 3.

AJ Francis and Anthony Henry debut on WWE NXT

A couple of debuts took place on this week’s episode of NXT.

– Former NFL player AJ Francis made his debut by aligning with Isaiah “Swerve” Scott on NXT tonight. Francis helped Scott defeat Leon Ruff in a falls count anywhere match.

Ruff and Scott were looking to settle their rivalry in the falls count anywhere match. Near the end of the match, Ruff was about to hit a dive onto Scott from a ladder that was set up near a production area. But Francis appeared, caught Ruff when he jumped off the ladder, and slammed Ruff onto the barricade.

Scott then threw Ruff back into the ring and hit the JML Driver to get the win.

Francis was identified by name on commentary and was called a member of Scott’s entourage. Scott, Francis, Ashante “Thee” Adonis, and Briana Brandy went backstage together after Scott’s win. Later in the show, Francis, Adonis, and Brandy were with Scott when he was interviewed backstage as they were leaving the building.

Brandy was also making her NXT TV debut tonight but wasn’t identified by name. She signed with WWE in August 2019 and is also a hip-hop musician.

It was announced in January 2020 that Francis had signed with WWE. He spent time with several NFL teams as a defensive tackle from 2013-2018.

Francis currently stars on WWE’s Most Wanted Treasures, which airs on A&E as part of WWE’s Sunday programming block on the channel.

 – Anthony Henry also made his debut on NXT tonight. Henry, who is now using the name Asher Hale, lost to Cameron Grimes on tonight’s show.

Henry is a former EVOLVE Tag Team Champion. He was part of the group of WWE Performance Center signees that was announced this February.
