WWE NXT results: Kassius Ohno vs. Aleister Black

The Big News: Aleister Black pinned Kassius Ohno in a hard-hitting main event.

The Medium News: In two weeks, on NXT’s 400th episode, Roderick Strong will go for the gold as he challenges the “Glorious” NXT Champion Bobby Roode.

The Little Beaver-sized News: Ember Moon returned to the ring against Peyton Royce.

**********

Ember Moon defeated Peyton Royce

Moon was “forced” to watch TakeOver: Chicago, which she missed after she injured herself taking a bump on a suicide dive to the floor a few weeks earlier. This was her return from that.

This matchup kind of continues the feud between Moon and the Iconic Duo that got dropped back in March. They had begun a storyline to ban The Eclipse after Billie Kay was injured, but they never followed up on it.

Royce “played possum” and “did her homework” and did a thousand other cliches to stop Moon from squashing her. Ultimately, she distracted the referee just long enough to let Kay interfere on her behalf.

Royce worked on her shoulder through the commercial break. Moon made her comeback and went for The Eclipse, but Kay had seen enough and tried to drag Royce away.

Moon did a dive off the top rope to the floor on Kay, which gave Royce another spurt of offense that culminated in a Widow’s Peak, which got her a two count. Moon sent Royce face-first into the middle turnbuckle and won after The Eclipse.

**********

Kassius Ohno was stretching backstage when Hideo Itami came up and apologized for being a jerk. Ohno said he completely understood why Itami was frustrated and said they need to do things the right way. Itami agreed.

**********

Eric Young & Alexander Wolfe defeated Gabriel & Uriel Ealy

The Ealy Brothers are back. They both got destroyed by Samoa Joe in their first appearance and the second time saw them lose to The Authors of Pain. Can they turn things around tonight as they go two-on-two with SAnitY?

The answer was no. EY and Wolfe did that annoying thing where they tag in and out constantly for 30 or 40 seconds, with SAnitY later picking up the win in a boring match with an assisted neckbreaker.

**********

They aired a recap of the Asuka-Nikki Cross match from last week, which technically ended Asuka’s winning streak since she didn’t actually win the match.

Anyway, this leads to Asuka vs. Cross in a last woman standing match for the NXT Women’s Championship next week.

**********

A Sonya Deville highlight package aired. At least they aren’t pretending she is brand new, as they showed highlights of her prior matches, dating back almost a year.

**********

Resistance by Powerflo is the official theme song of NXT. Personally, I think it sounds like a rejected theme for The Ultimate Fighter, but that’s just me.

**********

Sonya Deville defeated Rachel Evers

If we can be serious for just a minute, Evers returned to be the first official victim to the MMA badass, Sonya Deville. Deville got in the ring and ran around it like she entered the Octagon. She allegedly has a 3-1 record in MMA. Not mentioned was her 0-27 record on TV so far.

Deville got a two count off of a double leg takedown. It helps that Evers appeared to slam her head on the mat on her way down. Evers made a comeback, so Deville took offense, took off her gloves, and won with a double wristlock submission.

**********

Bobby Roode was having pictures taken of him earlier today when Roderick Strong arrived at the arena with his wife and son. Roode taunted him and told Marina Shafir to be with a real man, so it broke down into a huge fight.

Roode was so mad that he gave Strong a title shot “any time, anywhere.” So in two weeks, on the 400th episode of NXT, it will be Roode vs Strong for the NXT title.

**********

Aleister Black defeated Kassius Ohno

Ohno was wearing gear inspired after my Chicago Bulls. Specifically, it was inspired by the late-80s Bulls jerseys, which were amazing in their simplicity.

This was the only match all night that had any reaction. Honestly, the crowd did not react to much this entire taping. Even the women’s match last week they didn’t really care until after the match was thrown out.

The match started with grappling and neither man getting the advantage. Finally, Ohno backed him into the corner and delivered a hard chop. Black kicked him in the ribs and the fight was on!

Ohno tried rolling out of the ring to slow Black down, but when he rolled back in he found himself being kicked in every available inch of his body. Ohno bounced off the ropes with a forearm to stop Black’s momentum as we went to commercial long enough to plug the WWE Network.

Back from commercial, Ohno was bruising Black with strikes and crushed him with a running senton. Ohno mocked his foe by meditating mid-match, so Black kicked his back out of his back. They kicked each other in the face quite a bit. If you enjoy watching two men kick each other, this is the match for you.

The finish saw Ohno make his final flurry of offense and wind up with the rolling elbow, but Black took his head off with a Black Mass when he turned around, giving Black the win.

So that does it for this week. Thank you all so much for reading, and we’ll see you next week for episode 399!

NXT Richmond, VA, live results: Tag team main event

Image and report submitted by reader Steven Paul Phelps II

– Kassius Ohno defeated Cezar Bononi

The crowd was hot for Ohno, and there were a lot of “jobber” and “Who are you?” chants for Bononi. Ohno connected with an elbow strike for the win.

– Ember Moon & Ruby Riot defeated Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville

Moon hit The Eclipse on Rose to get the win.

– Velveteen Dream cut a backstage promo on the video screen ripping on the DMV (Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia) area and called out Drew McIntyre for a match later.

– Lars Sullivan defeated Oney Lorcan

They had a good technical match, with a superplex to the outside being teased at one point. Sullivan hit an inverted powerslam for the victory.

– SAnitY (Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain) defeated Tino Sabbatelli & Riddick Moss

Sabbatelli and Moss were working as faces here. There was a funny spot where Moss went to get the shirt that Wolfe fake threw to the crowd. He couldn’t find it and got booed like a heel. Wolfe sells well, and Sabbatelli and Moss are getting better.

SAnitY won when Dain got the pin after a double team dropkick/body slam on Sabbatelli.

– Drew McIntyre defeated Velveteen Dream

There was a funny moment where the crowd was singing “Purple Rain” at Velveteen Dream and he was getting pissed. The match had a lot of comedy but it wasn’t bad. Velveteen Dream teased leaving and then tried to come back out until McIntyre caught him.

After the beginning comedy portion, it turned into a surprisingly impressive match, with McIntyre winning with a Future Shock DDT. The crowd was very hot for it.

– NXT Tag Team Champions The Authors of Pain defeated Heavy Machinery to retain their titles

Heavy Machinery got a decent pop. There were actually cheers for AOP as well, who were without Paul Ellering here. The crowd response kind of died during the match. AOP hit the Last Chapter to retain their titles.

– NXT Women’s Champion Asuka defeated Nikki Cross to retain her title

There was a lot of support for Cross. Asuka got the usual pop for all of her spots. The crowd was lethally hot by the end, with Asuka retaining with a kick to the head.

– Roderick Strong & Aleister Black defeated NXT Champion Bobby Roode & Andrade “Cien” Almas

Strong might have gotten the biggest pop of the night. The face team won with an inverted backbreaker to send the crowd home happy.

NXT Brighton, England, live results: McIntyre & Black vs. Roode & Almas

Reports submitted by readers Tony Earnshaw and Martin Bentley

– Lilian Garcia made an appearance to sing “God Save the Queen.” There was a moment of silence for victims of the Manchester and London terrorist attacks.

– Jack Gallagher defeated Trent Seven

This was a fun match with some comedy at the start. Gallagher hit a corner dropkick to win.

– Peyton Royce & Billie Kay defeated Ruby Riot & Aliyah

After the heels worked on Aliyah for most of the match, Riot got a hot tag and got some offense in. But Royce later hit a knee strike on Aliyah for the win.

– WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne defeated Mark Andrews to retain his title

Dunne got a huge reaction from the crowd. They had a great match, with Dunne hitting the Bitter End to pick up the win.

– Roderick Strong, Kassius Ohno & No Way Jose defeated SAnitY (Eric Young, Killian Dain & Alexander Wolfe)

Jose took much of the punishment in the match, then Ohno got a hot tag and ran wild. Strong hit the End of Heartache on Wolfe and pinned him to win the match for his team. This was entertaining.

– William Regal came out to give a speech and thank the fans.

– NXT Tag Team Champions The Authors of Pain defeated Tino Sabbatelli & Riddick Moss to retain their titles

The champions hit their finisher on Sabbatelli to retain after the challengers had gotten a bit of shine.

– NXT Women’s Champion Asuka defeated Ember Moon to retain her title

Asuka was cheered despite being the heel here. They had a good match, with Asuka reversing a crossbody and pinning Moon while holding onto her tights.

– Drew McIntyre & Aleister Black defeated NXT Champion Bobby Roode & Andrade “Cien” Almas

The crowd was into this match and everyone was over (though Almas was to a lesser extent). Black hit a moonsault to the outside on Roode while McIntyre connected with a Claymore Kick on Almas for the victory. McIntyre got on the mic after to thank everyone.

WWE NXT results: Drew McIntyre vs. Wesley Blake in Chicago

The Big News: As with every post-TakeOver episode of NXT, this one was bursting full of lengthy video packages going over the special. In other words, just watch TakeOver.

The Medium News: Drew McIntyre continued his winning ways by defeating Wesley Blake in a main event that was better than expected.

The Little Beaver-sized News: Velveteen Dream debuted. Good news: He does a good elbow. Bad news: His punches really blow.

**********

Aleister Black defeated Curt Hawkins

We were magically still in Chicago. It’s almost as if they taped this week’s show before TakeOver or something. Curt Hawkins was here to make a star out of Black for the second time, because two weeks ago on WWE Main Event (a show watched even less than NXT Redemption) Black defeated Hawkins.

Percy Watson seemed to forget the storyline where he was accused of sneak attacking everyone on NXT Redemption (including Watson, ironically enough), but it was abandoned before it came out that Hawkins and Tyler Reks did it.

Anyway, this remembrance of a five-year-old angle almost lasted longer than the match. Black was over coming out and got more over with his skill and athleticism. Hawkins shockingly got in more offense than the average Black opponent. Black broke out a beautiful Asai moonsault and then picked up the win with Black Mass.

**********

We got the first of many TakeOver recap video packages, starting with Authors of Pain vs DIY. After a five-minute recap, we were told that “Doctors refuse to release the medical condition of Johnny Gargano.” Great.

**********

Ember Moon sat in an empty arena before TakeOver, talking about how awful it feels to be stuck sitting in the audience watching the show, since she got one of her big breaks in Chicago. She said the selfish part of her wanted Asuka to retain the title so she could take it from her.

This led to lengthy video package number two, this time on the Asuka vs. Ruby Riot vs. Nikki Cross three-way. Asuka laughed afterwards at the idea that there is anyone else left to challenge her.

**********

This show needs more video packages! Roderick Strong vs. Eric Young was featured next. It was the weakest match on the show, but it would still easily have been the best match on Backlash.

Kayla Braxton asked Strong what it was like to be the first person to beat Eric Young, which is a lie even if you only consider NXT (he lost to Samoa Joe last year during his surprise debut). Strong said you don’t talk about his family and this was his next step to becoming the NXT Champion.

**********

Velveteen Dream defeated Robert Anthony

Patrick Clark wasn’t even called Patrick Clark, however we did pretend like we hadn’t seen him half a dozen times already. Honestly, Dream’s commercial song was better than his actual theme music.

Dream needs to stop punching or throw a thousand punches at his mirror every day. Nothing in between the two, as his punches looked bad. He won with a Rick Rude neckbreaker and an elbow drop from the top rope that actually looked pretty good.

**********

That was enough wrestling. It was now time for another video package, but at least it was for the amazing, magnificent, fabulous, one of a kind, tremendous UK title match between Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate.

Sadly, this amazing match was recapped in 30 seconds. We did get a Dunne interview where he said he was watching Bate live a dream since January. He said before the match that he would win the title and now everything is his.

**********

More video packages! The oh so glorious NXT Champion, Bobby Roode and his title defense against Hideo Itami was featured next. Roode chastised Braxton for sounding surprised that he won. He then said Itami may have earned his title match, but he’s not in Roode’s league.

Roode said his next challenger is whomever he decides to face. He’s going home and taking some time off and when he decides to come back, he will.

Apparently he has decided to come back next week, because after a commercial we were informed he will have a “Glorious Celebration” next week.

**********

Drew McIntyre defeated Wesley Blake

Blake, a former NXT Tag Team Champion, was last seen as “Beautiful Blonde Blake,” but he has dropped whatever that was supposed to be and has a new country music theme song.

Blake backed McIntyre into the corner and gloated about his advantage, so McIntyre kicked him in the face.

It was mentioned that McIntyre won the WWE Tag Team Championship in Chicago, but, for obvious reasons, they didn’t mention his partner (Cody Rhodes). Blake took over, using the double wrist lock, but McIntyre just picked Blake up and carried him across the ring. Blake broke out a hurricanrana that turned into a cross armbreaker, though McIntyre was able to get to the ropes.

McIntyre hit the Sky High powerbomb, which got a big pop from the crowd, to the point where most forgot to do that annoying “SWEEEEEEEEEET” when Blake kicked out. Blake threw McIntyre into the post shoulder-first and locked on the crossface momentarily. McIntyre came back and hit a reverse Alabama slam (where Blake landed on his face), but that wasn’t the end.

We kept going back and forth until McIntyre threw Blake off the top rope and hit a stiff headbutt before hitting the Claymore Kick for the win.

That does it for NXT. Next week we are back at Full Sail, and until then, remember to say your vitamins and take your prayers!

NXT pre-TakeOver TV taping results: Drew McIntyre vs. Wesley Blake

Submitted by reader Stanley Kosek

Here are results from the matches that were taped for NXT TV at the Allstate Arena prior to TakeOver going on the air:

– Aleister Black defeated Curt Hawkins

The crowd went nuts for Black. He took most of the match, then got the pin after hitting Black Mass.

– The Velveteen Dream (Patrick Clark) defeated Robert “Ego” Anthony

Anthony wrestles for local indies and got a decent pop for his appearance here. It was a squash match, but it was fine for what it was because Anthony can work. The Velveteen Dream won with an elbow from the top rope.

– Drew McIntyre defeated Wesley Blake

The pop that McIntyre got was okay, but it wasn’t anything huge. Blake got a decent amount of offense in the match. It was an okay match, though it was choppy at parts. McIntyre won with the Claymore Kick.

NXT Evansville, IN, live results: Tag team main event

Image: @JTravisGrundon. Report submitted by reader Noah Dalton.

– No Way Jose defeated Patrick Clark

The crowd was pretty into Jose but didn’t care for Clark much. This wasn’t a bad match. Jose won with a pop-up punch.

– Ruby Riot defeated Lacey Evans

Riot got a good reaction and there was a nice pop when they announced her as from Indiana. They had a pretty good match, with Riot winning after hitting a Pele kick.

– Killian Dain defeated Oney Lorcan

SAnitY came out with Dain and they got a pretty big response. The crowd loved them all night. This may have been the best match on the show. Dain controlled most of it until Lorcan made a comeback and hit a flip dive from the top rope to the floor. The audience started to get very into the match by the end. Dain hit the One Winged Angel to win.

– Drew McIntyre defeated Wesley Blake

Blake had gear with Texas flags on his tights and boots made to look like cowboy boots. McIntyre got a great reaction and the crowd chanted “Welcome back” when he came out. He pretty much destroyed Blake for most of the match. He used lots of chops and threw Blake around with belly-to-belly suplexes.

Later on, Blake began to work over McIntyre’s arm but that didn’t last long. McIntyre was in the tree-of-woe position with Blake on the top rope when he sat up and threw him off the top and hit a running kick for the win.

– Kassius Ohno defeated Alexander Wolfe

Ohno got some “Hero” chants. SAnitY (except for Dain) came out with Wolfe and the crowd was still hot for them. This match wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the level of match you would expect from Ohno. He sold for 90 percent of it.

He began to make a comeback when Eric Young tried to interfere, but Ohno hit him with a boot and turned around and connected with a rolling elbow on Wolfe for the win.

– Hideo Itami came out in street clothes for an interview. He mostly talked about his match at TakeOver with Bobby Roode. He asked the crowd if they wanted to see him as champion, which got a mixed reaction. He said he would make Roode Go to Sleep in Chicago and he left.

– NXT Women’s Champion Asuka defeated Sonya Deville to retain her title

Asuka got a huge pop and the crowd loved her throughout the match. The match was just okay. It was at its best when Asuka was on offense; she was outstriking the woman with an MMA gimmick. She ended up retaining with a spinning back kick.

– Roderick Strong & Aleister Black defeated NXT Champion Bobby Roode & Andrade “Cien” Almas

Strong got a nice reaction, but Black got a noticeably larger one. Both of those didn’t stack up to the pop that Roode got. People were singing his song and he came off like a huge star.

Not a lot happened in the match for a while. Roode did lots of stalling and comedy, but the crowd ate it up. He eventually tagged in Almas. Almas got the heat on Black, who was beat up by the heels for most of the match. Strong eventually got an awesome hot tag.

Strong was beating up Almas when Roode came in with the NXT Championship, but Black hit him with Black Mass before he could use the belt. Strong then hit End of Heartache on Almas for the win.

WWE Main Event results: Aleister Black makes his show debut

The Big Takeaway: Aleister Black made his show debut by squashing Curt Hawkins, then Noam Dar and Gran Metalik put on a good match to make it a thoroughly enjoyable Main Event.

**********

Aleister Black defeated Curt Hawkins (2:00)

Hawkins cuts a pre-match promo, asking who’s ready for a “heaping helping of Hawkins?” He does some awful comedy aimed at the British, but much to everyone’s delight, Aleister Black from NXT comes out to “face the facts.”

Black wrestled under the name of Tommy End in Europe and the UK, but was born in Amsterdam, Holland. At TakeOver: Orlando, Black made his televised in-ring debut in NXT, defeating Andrade “Cien” Almas and this marks his main roster debut (even if it’s only temporary).

Black’s speed and talent is too much for Hawkins, who is an excellent foil for him here. He cuts an imposing figure — he has the height and bulk, but a fairly unique look. After sending Hawkins outside, he threatens a suicide dive, but instead does a flip off the second rope, lands on his feet, and sits cross-legged in the middle of the ring, staring back at Hawkins.

After giving a little of the match to Hawkins, Black takes over. His moveset is full of kicks, leg lariats, and forearm strikes. He’s agile, athletic, and impressive. After two charges into the corner, he boots Hawkins to the mat and then drags his chin up with his foot and hits a roundhouse kick (the Black Mass) for the win.

This was exactly what the crowd at the O2 would have wanted from Main Event.

Noam Dar defeated Gran Metalik (7:47)

It was good to see Noam Dar in action in front of the London crowd. These two are really talented and Dar and Metalik put in some intricate work early on, but the crowd are a little subdued after the debut of Black. They come to life when Metalik open hand chops Dar and springs off the top rope with an armdrag that sends Dar outside.

Metalik stands on the apron and boots Dar in the face and then sets up a top rope springboard moonsault. After a little shaky footwork on the top rope, he lands the move perfectly and is safely caught by Dar as we head to a break.

Dar gets some support from the London crowd when he boots Metalik in the shin and he tumbles down to the matting outside. Dar rolls him back inside and slows things down, tying Metalik up with what looked like a standing STF. After more rest holds, Metalik gets a suplex in and both men go down.

After Dar kicks out of a running bulldog and a small package, Metalik hits Dar with a tope to the outside. They both crawl back in and Dar hits his impressive running enzuigiri to a nice pop and ends the match.

This was the second good Main Event show in as many weeks — and long may it continue.

This match had a lot of comedy spots. Goldust pinned Hawkins to get the win.

– Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose defeated The Miz (w/ Maryse) to retain his title

Miz is a fantastic heel. Maryse tried to interfere a lot before being ejected from ringside, then Ambrose hit Dirty Deeds to win the match.

This was a great match, with Balor winning after hitting the Coup de Grace. Balor got an awesome reaction.

– Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins defeated Bray Wyatt & Samoa Joe

Wyatt’s entrance is just awesome. Rollins got a huge reaction and Reigns got a lot of boos and cheers. There were dueling chants for him during the match. It was a solid main event. Reigns hit a spear on Wyatt to get the victory, then Rollins and Reigns shook hands after the match and Rollins posed with a Swiss flag.

NXT Independence, MO, live results: Itami & Black vs. Roode & Almas

– Ruby Riot & Aliyah defeated Peyton Royce & Billie Kay

Riot got the hot tag and won the match for her team.

– Dylan Miley defeated Cezar Bononi

This was pretty much a squash match.

– Killian Dain defeated No Way Jose

SAnitY stayed in the ring and challenged anyone to fight, with DIY answering the challenge.

– DIY defeated Eric Young & Alexander Wolfe

Dain and Nikki Cross were thrown out from ringside. DIY picked up the pinfall victory over Young in what was the match of the night. Dain and Cross came back out to fight after it was over, but No Way Jose and Ruby Riot soon followed to chase them from the ring. There was then a dance party, which included the victors and the ref.

– Tye Dillinger defeated Patrick Clark

I was surprised to see Dillinger still on tour, but he was really over with the crowd. He picked up the win in an entertaining match.

– NXT Women’s Champion Asuka defeated Sonya Deville to retain her title

Sonya Deville is Daria Berenato’s new ring name. This was a well-worked match, with Deville getting some time on offense to make it an entertaining title defense for Asuka.

– Hideo Itami & Aleister Black defeated NXT Champion Bobby Roode & Andrade “Cien” Almas

This was a nice match. Itami worked a lot with Roode. He got a hot tag to hit the GTS while Black hit a kick to pick up the victory. Itami and Black played up an uneasiness with each other during the match with some aggressive tags and shoving, but they sat in the ring together after the victory and shook hands.

Matha had his way with Lorcan early on, but Lorcan fought back with a series of running uppercuts and a running neckbreaker for the win.

The crowd was all over Sabbatelli and Moss. The match got a lot of time and the finish saw Dillinger take the hot tag and clean house, leading to a Tye Breaker attempt which was countered into a roll through, which Dillinger countered into a sharpshooter attempt before his leg gave way. The crowd was scared, but Dillinger was able to apply the crossface for the submission victory and a huge reaction.
