MJF to defend AEW International title in CMLL

MJF is heading to Mexico.

CMLL announced on Friday that MJF will be defending his newly-won AEW International title on August 2 in Arena Mexico. A video aired during their Friday show at Arena Mexico of MJF making the announcement.

The video showed the new champion in a bathtub saying his match against Will Ospreay on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite was the easiest match of his life. He said that unlike Ospreay, he had a killer instinct and that is why he is the longest-reigning AEW Champion, and now the new International Champion. He said the best way to help the world internationally is to take the title to “those masked morons in Mexico.”

MJF won the title on Wednesday in a match that lasted 59:59. The finish had Ospreay hesitate to use the Tiger Driver, which he said he would never use again. The pause allowed MJF to escape and strike Ospreay with the Dynamite Diamond Ring to score the pinfall at the very last second.

PAC earns future AEW International title shot

Image: AEW

The man to hold the first-ever AEW International title will now get a chance to regain it in the future.

On Wednesday’s Dynamite, PAC won a four-way “Global Glory” match over Tomohiro Ishii, Claudio Castagnoli and Kyle Fletcher to earn the opportunity. He will take on either current champion Will Ospreay or MJF as they battle over the title on next Wednesday’s 250th episode of Dynamite.

PAC picked up the victory by getting Fletcher to submit in a bout that saw plenty of near falls, big moves and submission attempts.

Afterward, PAC took the microphone and said that since he returned in March, he has “made many bold promises and suffered many humiliating failures” but it’s All In season and “the Bastard won’t be denied my Wembley moment. I promise you that tonight is a line in the sand. The Bastard will be back.”

It was not specified whether he would get his shot at August’s All In at London’s Wembley Stadium. He had to miss the inaugural show as he was injured.

PAC won the inaugural All-Atlantic Champion in June 2022, later changed to the International title in March 2023. He held it for 108 days and defended it seven times, finally losing it to Orange Cassidy on an October edition of Dynamite.

AEW Collision live results: Will Ospreay vs. Kyle O’Reilly International title match

A match for the AEW International title is set for tonight’s AEW Collision in Palm Springs, California, as Will Ospreay defend the title against Kyle O’Reilly.

This comes only a few days after Ospreay won a Casino Gauntlet match to become the new number one contender for the AEW World Championship. He’s now set to face Swerve Strickland at Forbidden Door later this month.

Elsewhere on the card, NJPW’s Lio Rush returns to take on former International Champion Roderick Strong while Claudio Castagnoli will face Johnny TV while Katsuyori Shibata & Daniel Garcia will team up to take on The WorkHorsemen (JD Drake & Anthony Henry).

Other matches and segments will see Shane Taylor & Lee Moriarty take on the West Coast Wrecking Crew (Jorel Nelson & Royce Issacs) who appear regularly on NJPW Strong events, The Cage of Agony will be in trios action, Thunder Rosa will face AAA’s Reina Dorada, and FTR will speak following their loss at Double or Nothing.

**********

Sir Elton John kicks us off on this week’s Collision, as we are on the road to Forbidden Door. Would that be a walkway? We are live – to tape – from Palm Springs, California. Tony Schiavone & Nigel McGuinness are on the call, but Schiavone is in the ring to start the show.

Schiavone welcomed FTR to the ring, as we got highlights of Anarchy In The Arena. McGuinness made sure to note that Jack Perry pinned Bryan Danielson to win the match. Wheeler said that it was hard to accept their loss on Sunday, but the Elite hadn’t killed them off just yet. Harwood struggled having to see his partners get brutalized, but he would fight until his dying breath to defend AEW. He said that one day soon that Danielson, Allin, and FTR would be back to kick The Elite’s asses.

(A nice little promo to let everyone know that the war isn’t over yet.)

We cut to footage of Jack Perry after Double or Nothing. He said that blood, sweat, and tears were the bare minimum sacrifice needed to succeed. He got set on fire in the name of saving AEW. No one believed in the spirit of AEW more than he did, even when the company turned its back on him. He will keep fighting and sacrificing to shape the AEW’s future, through blood, sweat, and fire.

(Jack Perry has become a quality promo in his time away from AEW. It was the only hole in his game, and he’s proving weekly that he’s filled it.)

We got a recap of the TNT Title situation, with Adam Copeland having to vacate the title and the announcement of the ladder match at Forbidden Door. Konosuke Takeshita won the first qualifier match last night on Rampage over Penta El Zero Miedo.

Roderick Strong (w/Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) defeated Lio Rush

Pro wrestling is better when Lio Rush is doing it. Any time you get annoyed at his consistent absences, a match like this reminds you how capital-G Great Lio Rush is. Hopefully, he can find a consistent home on either side of the Forbidden Door. Meanwhile, the Undisputed Kingdom continues to putter on, even as their main rival MJF seems to have moved on from caring about them. I like all of the talent in the group, but there is no use in having this group exist anymore.

Strong quickly got a hold of Rush and stomped on him in the corner. Strong clubbered Rush around the ring, chopping him and focusing his offense on his midsection. Strong laid in some heavy running elbows before dropping Rush with a front slam. At ringside, Taven put on Rush’s puffy ring coat to big boos. Rush slid into the corner and picked up the pace, hitting a pair of suicidas to send Strong into the announce desk as we went to commercial.

Strong hit an Olympic Slam for a nearfall as he regained the advantage during the break. Taven laid in a boot to a floored Rush outside. Rush got back in the ring and evaded Strong long enough to hit a hurricane kick. Rush rolled through a kitchen sink knee for a roll-up nearfall, then hit a satellite DDT for another nearfall. After a Taven distraction, Rush hit Taven & Bennett with a springboard moonsault.

Strong came back with a baseball slide, but after a back-and-forth in the ring, Rush hit the Rush Hour stunner for a nearfall. Rush thwarted another distraction, but frog splashed into Strong’s knees. Strong transitioned directly into the End of Heartache to score the win.

We got a recap of Will Ospreay winning the excellent Casino Gauntlet Match from Dynamite to earn an AEW World Title match against Swerve Strickland at Forbidden Door.

We cut to Ospreay’s opponent and challenger for tonight, Kyle O’Reilly. He didn’t plan on having a great match tonight. Instead, he planned on beating Ospreay quickly and efficiently tonight. O’Reilly noted that in the first Casino Gauntlet Match, he kicked out of the Hidden Blade. Ospreay may have bigger fish to fry, but he’ll regret overlooking O’Reilly. O’Reilly said that he wasn’t leaving Palm Springs empty-handed.

Lexy Nair was backstage, looking to get a word with Roderick Strong. Strong blew past her to get to Tony Khan & Christopher Daniels. Strong noted that he was the next entrant in the Casino Gauntlet Match on Dynamite, but never got a chance to come out since Will Ospreay won the match. After complimenting Khan’s neck strength, Strong wanted a chance to win the World Title and get his revenge on Ospreay at Forbidden Door. Khan liked the idea, so he made the match official for Dynamite: Swerve Strickland vs. Roderick Strong for the AEW World Championship.

(I’m not a fan of Khan as an on-screen character. I am a fan of Strickland/Strong being booked for Dynamite. Strong being the next man in the gauntlet match and being mad that he never got to enter the match was a great bit.)

Daniel Garcia & Katsuyori Shibata defeated The WorkHorsemen (Anthony Henry & JD Drake)

This is the kind of match that makes me love Collision. The WorkHorsemen, a great team that never gets pushed, against two aligned babyfaces in Garcia and Shibata in a match that got some time to breathe and real energy from the crowd. As a long-time advocate for them, I’m so glad the WorkHorsemen were able to shine in a TV opportunity like this. I hope the reaction they got scored them more chances like this one. Meanwhile, Garcia scores a fall on his road to an International Title shot.

Matt Menard joined commentary for this one. We got a recap of Garcia’s interview from Wednesday, where he made his intentions clear for the International Championship. Henry mocked Shibata’s pose and lived to regret it, with both Shibata and Garcia laying into him with kicks. The Horsemen tried to isolate Garcia, but he fought his way free. The Horsemen tripped up Shibata, allowing Drake to hit a Shining Wizard on Shibata.

Drake rolled out of the ring and sat with the ringside doctor for a moment before getting back in the ring to tag in Henry. Henry hit Garcia with a pair of neckbreakers as we went to a commercial. After the break, the Horsemen clubbered on Garcia in their corner. Garcia fought through Drake’s chops to hit a Saito suplex and tag Shibata. Shibata ran wild on both Horsemen, hitting the hesitation dropkick on Henry. Shibata clubbered on Henry in the corner as Garcia danced to fire up before hitting running knees.

Drake snuck a tag in and hit a Magnum TA-style belly-to-belly. Henry hit running knees on Garcia before Drake hit a moonsault that brought Palm Springs alive. I’m shocked because he never actually hits that moonsault. Shibata broke up the cover, then helped Garcia isolate Drake. Shibata hit the Penalty Kick before Garcia got the win with his jackknife cover.

We got a recap of Kris Statlander & Stokely Hathaway turning on Willow Nightingale after her TBS Title loss at Double or Nothing. Hathaway & Statlander were in the back. They apologized to Nightingale with a gift, a bunch of garbage that reminded them of Nightingale. Statlander said that she would destroy anyone that got in her way, intimating that she would be in action next week.

Thunder Rosa defeated Reina Dorada

They noted that Dorada was a rising name in the independent scene in Mexico. Rosa hit a Dominator that Dorada kicked out of before scoring the win with the seated Cobra Clutch. Rosa had some words for Deonna Purrazzo, noting that their issues weren’t settled yet.

Cage Of Agony (Bishop Kaun, Brian Cage & Toa Liona) defeated Danny Gee, Danny Rose & KM

These poor dweebs got murdered by the former Mogul Embassy, getting the pin on Rose after just flinging him in the air by his limbs and letting gravity finish the job. I cannot emphasize how much of a demolition this was.

We got footage of Toni Storm, Mariah May, & Luther from Rampage. May told her opponent for Dynamite, Saraya, that she watched the movie on her life and wondered why they cut out her downfall. May said that they would have to make a sequel to it called S***storm, before Storm let everyone know that her Forbidden Door was wide open. Good to know.

Claudio Castagnoli defeated Johnny TV (w/Taya Valkyrie)

Johnny came out looking like late-career Randy Savage with the leather cowboy hat and duster. Castagnoli caught Johnny on a leapfrog with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Johnny tripped Castagnoli in the ropes before hitting a running knee to take control. Castagnoli reversed a neckbreaker into a backslide before hitting a double stomp to the guts. Castagnoli held Johnny up for a stalling vertical suplex before dropping him. Castagnoli went for the Giant Swing, but Johnny pulled Taya into the ring as a distraction. Johnny scored with a mule kick before hitting the Flying Chuck for a nearfall.

After a commercial break, Castagnoli reversed a hold into a vertical suplex. Johnny avoided another Swing with an inside cradle before hitting a neckbreaker for a nearfall. Johnny brought Castagnoli to the ropes to let Taya slap him, but the slap woke Castagnoli up. Castagnoli got in Taya’s face on the floor, allowing Johnny to hit a dive over the post.

Castagnoli cut off the Starship Pain and hit a reverse superplex before locking on the Sharpshooter. Johnny pulled Taya into the ring again, but Castagnoli caught the leg on a second mule kick attempt and hit the Giant Swing. Castagnoli hit a running lariat to score the win.

We got a hype package for the Premier Athletes – Josh Woods, Tony Nese, & Ariya Daivari – narrated by Smart Mark Sterling.

Shane Taylor Promotions (Lee Moriarty & Shane Taylor) (w/ Anthony Ogogo) defeated The West Coast Wrecking Crew (Jorel Nelson & Royce Isaacs)

Due to a technical issue, I was unable to watch this match. I did see Ogogo knock out Isaacs after the match as Moriarty and Taylor stood tall.

The Iron Savages were in the back, noting that the trios division was full of vegans that didn’t want any of their beef. Thankfully, Killswitch entered the frame and killed these geeks.

AEW International Title Match – Will Ospreay defeated Kyle O’Reilly to retain

Another fantastic match from Will Ospreay. In other news, the sun rose in the east today. O’Reilly had another great title fight, adding to his stellar resume since returning from injury. He would be my pick to win the TNT Title ladder match at Forbidden Door, paying off how close he’s come in these title challenges. This was a stellar Collision main event.

Ospreay got the first win of the match so to speak, scoring with a headscissors and a plancha to the floor. After a commercial, O’Reilly cut off Ospreay’s handspring kick by kicking Ospreay’s arm out from under him. O’Reilly lasered in on Ospreay’s left arm as we got a look at Daniel Garcia & Matt Menard watching on in the back. Ospreay came back, hitting a springboard forearm with the bad arm for a nearfall.

Tony Schiavone noted on commentary that we would hear from Swerve Strickland tonight after the World Title match announcement for Dynamite. O’Reilly dropped Ospreay on the apron with an arm wringer before hitting a Dragon Screw through the ropes. Ospreay was tied up in the ropes, allowing O’Reilly to hit a flying knee off the ropes for a nearfall. Ospreay tried to catch O’Reilly with a sunset flip, but O’Reilly snatched on an armbar to force Ospreay into the ropes. O’Reilly forced Ospreay into a chair at ringside before hitting a running dropkick against the barricade as we went to another commercial.

After the break, Ospreay took O’Reilly’s guillotine attempt and turned it into a suplex before hitting a traditional Tiger Driver for a nearfall. O’Reilly cut off Ospreay on the ropes, avoided a 450 splash, and cut off an Oscutter, but lost a kick battle with Ospreay to put both men down. Ospreay went for another Oscutter, but O’Reilly caught him on the way down in an armbar.

O’Reilly transitioned between an armbar and a triangle choke, but Ospreay muscled O’Reilly up for a one-armed powerbomb. Ospreay hit a pair of head kicks, but O’Reilly countered the Stormbreaker with a leg-trap suplex for a nearfall. O’Reilly hit a Penalty Kick, but Ospreay rolled through to hit a desperation Hidden Blade. Ospreay went for another Hidden Blade, but O’Reilly drilled him with a knee to the chin.

The two men traded headbutts and forearms on the mat before O’Reilly dropped Ospreay with a rolling elbow. Ospreay countered a brainbuster with a Stundog Millionaire and a Hidden Blade, but O’Reilly kicked out of it again. Ospreay then hit the Stormbreaker for the win.

We got words from Swerve Strickland. He congratulated Will Ospreay on his wins at Double or Nothing and on Dynamite. Strickland felt bittersweet about Forbidden Door, noting that he was on the pre-show while Will Ospreay stole the show on the main card. Meanwhile, Ospreay hasn’t main evented an AEW PPV like Swerve had. It was like they complemented each other in that way. Strickland turned his attention to Roderick Strong, who thought a good win over Lio Rush entitled him to the champ’s time. Strong is no longer the bully who could take advantage of Swerve. Strickland would be the champion going into, and coming out of, Forbidden Door because it was Swerve’s House.

Will Ospreay wins International title at AEW Double or Nothing

Image: JJ Williams

Just a few months after embarking on his first run on a full-time AEW contract, Will Ospreay can call himself a champion after winning the International title at Sunday’s Double or Nothing.

Ospreay defeated Roderick Strong in the main card opener, ending Strong’s 85-day run that began at March’s Revolution with his win over Orange Cassidy. Ospreay earned the shot with a win in a Casino gauntlet match in April.

Ospreay picked up the victory Sunday after countering an End of Heartache attempt by landing on his feet followed by a Hidden Blade and Storm Breaker for the pin and title. It’s his first title run anywhere since his IWGP U.S. title reign came to an end last November in NJPW.

As has been the case since April’s Dynasty, Ospreay was hesitant to use his Tiger Driver ’91, even with Don Callis doing everything in his power to get him to do it.

Strong had just one title defense in his near-three month run.

There was one scary spot early in the match where Ospreay landed on his head as Matt Taven & Mike Bennett hit a Doomsday Device on the outside of the ring. He was fine and able to continue in the match.

Will Ospreay to challenge for International title at AEW Double or Nothing

A match for the International title is now set for Double or Nothing.

Will Ospreay won a Casino Gauntlet match that was held on Dynamite, defeating Komander with the hidden blade. He will now face Roderick Strong for the International title at Double or Nothing on May 26 in Las Vegas.

The gauntlet, which wasn’t announced before the show, included Jay White, Dante Martin, Penta El Zero Miedo, Kyle O’Reilly, Ospreay, Lance Archer, Komander, and Jay Lethal. The finish had O’Reilly putting Ospreay in the cross-arm breaker, allowing Komander to hit a ropewalk shooting star press. Ospreay then hit the hidden blade for the win.

One of the stories in the match had Ospreay hesitate before using the Tiger Driver 91, a move he said he would no longer use after he hit the move on Bryan Danielson at AEW Dynasty, causing injury. Backstage, Don Callis asked Ospreay why he didn’t use the move. He pushed Ospreay to use the move on Strong, noting that he has had neck issues in the past.

Here is the updated lineup for Double or Nothing:

  • International title: Roderick Strong defends against Will Ospreay
  • TBS title: Willow Nightingale defends against Mercedes Mone

International title eliminator official for AEW Battle of the Belts X

An International title eliminator match is set for Battle of the Belts X.

During a promo on Collision, Romero says he’s won titles in Mexico and Japan and now he wants a title in AEW. He said he knows that he can’t just walk up and get a title shot due to AEW’s rankings, so he is challenging Roderick Strong to an International title eliminator match. Strong then appeared and said although he thinks Romero has about a one percent chance of beating him, he will accept his challenge.

The match was later made official for Battle of the Belts X. That will air immediately after next week’s Collision at 10 pm ET.

Battle of the Belts IX was held back on January 13. That card had Ricky Starks & Big Bill defeating Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara in a street fight to retain the AEW Tag Team titles, Julia Hart successfully defending the TBS title against Anna Jay, and Orange Cassidy defeating Preston Vance to retain the International title.

Here is the lineup so far for Battle of the Belts X:

  • AEW International Championship eliminator match: Roderick Strong vs. Rocky Romero

Roderick Strong wins International title at AEW Revolution

Nearly a year after he made his debut in the company, Roderick Strong has his first taste of AEW gold after defeating Orange Cassidy for the International title at Sunday’s Revolution pay-per-view.

Despite having Matt Taven and Mike Bennett at ringside, Strong didn’t need their assistance, pinning Cassidy after an End of Heartache backbreaker to get the clean pin for the title.

The story of the match was how badly injured Cassidy’s ribs and back were going into the match as Cassidy revealed that nearly his entire midsection was covered with kinesio tape after removed his t-shirt pre-match.

As a result, Strong focused on Cassidy’s injuries, increased by multiple interactions with Strong’s Undisputed Kingdom faction over the last two months. One particular attack saw Strong hit Cassidy with a gut-wrench backbreaker on the top rope.

Cassidy nearly had the match won after hitting an Orange Punch and Beach Break, but Strong was able to get to the ropes to avoid the pin. As he attempted another Orange Punch, he took too long and Strong hit a knee strike and his aforementioned finisher for the win.

It’s Strong’s first title anywhere since holding the WWE NXT Cruiserweight title before losing it in a unification match to then-NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes in January 2022. He now becomes the sixth-ever International Champion and fifth unique one in the title’s relatively young history.

The loss ends the five-month second reign of Cassidy that began in October with a win over Rey Fenix. What followed was 12 title defenses including wins over the likes of Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Tomohiro Ishii and, most recently, Nick Wayne.

After the match, Strong was temporarily reunited with former factionmate Kyle O’Reilly in the latter’s surprise return until O’Reilly refused an Undisputed Kingdom t-shirt and walked away.

International title match official for AEW Revolution

The International title match for AEW Revolution is on.

After Roderick Strong challenged Orange Cassidy on last week’s show, Cassidy accepted Strong’s challenge on AEW Dynamite, setting up their match for March 3 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Cassidy said he wouldn’t wait until then, however, as he’ll continue to defend the International title.

Following Worlds End, Undisputed Kingdom’s leader Adam Cole has made clear that Strong’s next target is the International title. After Strong issued the challenge last week, Cassidy offered him a title match right then and there. Strong rejected the idea of an impromptu title match, saying he would rather wait until Revolution.

On Wednesday’s Dynamite, Wardlow defeated Cassidy’s Best Friends stablemate Trent Beretta. Wardlow attempted to attack Beretta after the match, but was called off by Cole. Beretta shoved Cassidy as he was attempting to recover inside the ring, but quickly apologized.

Here is the updated lineup for next month’s Revolution:

  • Sting’s retirement match
  • AEW International title: Orange Cassidy defends against Roderick Strong

International title match announced for AEW Collision Winter is Coming

A match for the International title has been made for AEW Collision Winter is Coming.

Bryan Keith was interviewed by Tony Schivone during ROH Final Battle on Friday. He said as the bounty hunter, he always collects, and he is here to collect gold. Orange Cassidy then walked up to Keith and said he had gold, and encouraged Keith to take it. He said he’d see Keith tomorrow at AEW Collision.

Keith earned the final spot in the Survival of the Fittest match during Final Battle’s Zero Hour pre-show, defeating Jack Cartwheel. Keith went far in the Survival of the Fittest six-way, being the fourth person eliminated in the match after being pinned by the eventual winner and new ROH Television Champion Kyle Fletcher.

Here is the lineup for Saturday’s Collision:

  • AEW International title: Orange Cassidy defends against Bryan Keith
  • AEW Continental Classic Blue League: Daniel Garcia vs. Eddie Kingston
  • AEW Continental Classic Blue League: Bryan Danielson vs. Brody King
  • AEW Continental Classic Blue League: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Andrade El Idolo

International title match set for next week’s AEW Dynamite

An International title match is set for next week’s Dynamite.

Orange Cassidy will defend the title against Blackpool Combat Club member Claudio Castagnoli. The end of Wednesday’s Dynamite saw Castagnoli and Bryan Danielson defeat Cassidy and NJPW’s Kazuchika Okada when Castagnoli pinned Cassidy.

After the match, Best Friends, Rocky Romero, and Hook came to the ring as Okada taunted Danielson, who was being tended to by medics after he took an Orange Punch and a Rainmaker. It was there that the International title match was announced for next week.

MJF also agreed to find three partners against Bullet Club Gold ‘next week’, although it was not specified if it would take place on next week’s Dynamite. MJF successfully defended his Dynamite Diamond Ring on Wednesday defeating Juice Robinson, but was jumped by all of Bullet Club Gold after the match. Both The Kingdom and The Acclaimed made the save for MJF, but MJF rejected the idea he would team with any of them.

Here is what’s set for next week’s AEW Dynamite:

  • AEW International title: Orange Cassidy defends against Claudio Castagnoli

AEW Battle of the Belts VIII live results: Three title matches

Three titles will be on the line at Saturday’s Battle of the Belts.

AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy will defend the title against John Silver of the Dark Order. Silver won a three-way match at AEW Rampage on Friday, defeating Brother Zay and Kip Sabian in a three-way match.

Kris Statlander will defend the TBS Championship against Willow Nightingale. Statlander recently successfully defended the title against Skye Blue. After the match, Stalander extended her hand to Skye to help her up, but Nightingale came out and stopped her. Both Nightingale and Statlander have recently been misted in the eyes by Julia Hart.

The AEW Trios titles will also be on the line, with The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn defending against Matt Menard, Angelo Parker, and Daniel Garcia. The remnants of the Jericho Appreciation Society have been seen arguing in recent weeks, with Matt Menard having problems with Garcia.

Battle of the Belts VIII will begin immediately after Saturday’s Collision at 10 pm ET.

AEW International Title Match – Orange Cassidy defeated John Silver (w/ Alex Reynolds) to retain

The crowd didn’t buy Silver as a challenger, but they still had a fine match here to open up Battle of the Belts.

The Blackpool Combat Club was leaving the ring after the events of Collision as Cassidy made his entrance. Cassidy made sure to shoulder-check Moxley as he made his entrance, with Moxley having to be held back from retaliating. We got a look back at Cassidy beating Silver in a singles match all the way back at Full Gear 2020.

Cassidy headbutted Silver after Silver put his hands in Cassidy’s pockets. Cassidy hit a dive onto Reynolds, which allowed Silver to take control with a big kick and a pair of beels across the ring. Cassidy avoided a corner charge and threw Silver into the turnbuckles. Silver came back, eventually hitting Cassidy with a delayed superplex for a nearfall. Cassidy and Silver fought on the apron, where Silver hit Cassidy with a one-handed Gorilla Press Slam on the apron. Silver flung Cassidy with another beel on the floor as we went to the commercial.

Silver clubbed Cassidy with kicks as we came back from the commercial, but Cassidy responded by putting his hands in his pockets. Silver cut him off with a bicycle kick, but Silver hit a Michinoku Driver for a nearfall. Cassidy went for his soft kicks, but quickly cut the act and kicked Silver hard. Silver countered a tornado DDT with a small package, then drilled Cassidy with kicks. Cassidy reversed a suplex with the Stundog Millionaire before hitting the Beach Break for a nearfall.

Reynolds got on the apron with the title belt, distracting Cassidy. Silver knocked Cassidy into the ropes, where Reynolds drilled Cassidy with the belt for a nearfall. Silver hit a lariat, then followed it with the Spin Doctor for a nearfall. Silver went for a punt kick, but Cassidy tripped him into the corner. Cassidy hit the Orange Punch to score the win.

Lexy Nair was backstage with Andrade El Idolo. She asked him a question about his match with Bryan Danielson on Collision when they were interrupted by CJ Perry. She said that Andrade could become the biggest star in wrestling with a little guidance. Andrade gave it a bit of thought.

ROH World TV Title Match – Samoa Joe defeated Tony Nese (w/ Mark Sterling) to retain

A lot of people have their eyes on the AEW World Title and MJF. It’s about this time of year when we get a #1 contender tournament that ends at Full Gear, so I would keep an eye out for that.

If you read my ROH television reviews, you’ll know what Nese said here. If you don’t, shame on you for not reading those. Nese offered Memphis some group training before he was interrupted by Joe’s entrance. The announcers noted that Joe was 12 days away from breaking Jay Lethal’s record for longest reign as ROH TV Champion.

Joe quickly took care of Nese, moving out of the way of a Nese moonsault and hitting a lariat. The Muscle Buster followed to score Joe the win. After the match, Joe spoke to MJF. He offered MJF the gift of foresight. Joe is coming for the AEW World Title, and MJF can do what he wants with that information. MJF can give him what he wants, or he can make Joe take it from him.

AEW TBS Title Match – Kris Statlander defeated Willow Nightingale to retain

I was worried we might see a Nightingale heel turn with both her and Skye Blue getting misted, but Nightingale seems to be staying on the straight and narrow path for now. Another solid match, but the crowd was either tired or they’re just not interested in these matches.

The two traded shoulder blocks until Nightingale knocked down Statlander. Statlander came back with a shoulder block of her own. Statlander dropped Nightingale on the ropes before hitting a pendulum elbow for a nearfall. Statlander sent Nightingale to the floor before hitting a moonsault off of the apron. Nightingale sent Statlander into the steps before hitting a cannonball into the steps.

The two traded forearms as we came back from commercial. Nightingale clubbered on Statlander in the corner before Statlander swept her feet out from under her. Statlander hit strikes in the corner before hitting a Blue Thunder Bomb for a nearfall. Nightingale caught Statlander with the Pounce, but Statlander reversed a move into a DDT for a nearfall.

Statlander went to the top rope, but Nightingale cut her off. Nightingale hit an avalanche Death Valley Driver for a nearfall. Nightingale hit a Tree Slam into the corner before hitting a cannonball into the corner. Nightingale went to the middle rope, but Statlander caught her with a powerbomb. Statlander hit the 450 Splash to score the win.

Statlander offered Nightingale a handshake post-match, but Skye Blue entered the ring and stopped it. After a pause, Nightingale accepted the handshake. Blue looked annoyed and left as Statlander stood tall.

Lexy Nair was backstage with Orange Cassidy. Cassidy mentioned that John Silver kicks very hard. He talked about the incident before the match with Jon Moxley, noting that Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli got in his face too. Cassidy challenged Danielson and Castagnoli to fight him on Dynamite. Cassidy’s partner would be…Kazuchika Okada? What the hell? The match was made official for Dynamite this Wednesday.

AEW World Trios Title Match – The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens, Max Caster, Billy Gunn) (w/ Grizz The Grizzly) (c) defeated Daniel Garcia, Angelo Parker, & Matt Menard (w/ Anna Jay) to retain

Garcia has gotten the dance over, and the people want to see it. The split with the JAS remnants is coming, so we’ll see how everything shakes out for him after that.

The Acclaimed came out with Grizz the Grizzly Bear, the mascot of the Memphis Grizzlies. Garcia kept trying to dance, but his partners kept stopping him. Anna Jay got into the ring to stop him, leading the referee to eject her from ringside. Bowens went on the offensive, taking out Menard and Parker with strike flurries. The Acclaimed worked on Menard until Menard got Caster into their corner. The challengers beat on Caster as we went to a commercial.

The challenger team beat down Bowens as we came back from the break. Bowens fought his way to the corner, sending Garcia into Menard, before tagging Gunn. Gunn ran wild, setting up Menard for Scissor Me Timbers. The Acclaimed scissored, allowing the challengers to triple-team them. Garcia got Caster isolated but went to do his dance, allowing Caster to roll him up for a nearfall.

Garcia focused and fired up on Caster, laying him out with a lariat. Garcia did the dance before going for a piledriver, but Gunn came in and hit him with a Fameasser. Bowens and Caster hit the KRS-One on Garcia to win and retain the titles.

Jon Moxley International title defense added to AEW Collision

Jon Moxley is already scheduled to make his second defense of the AEW International Championship.

Moxley will defend the International title against Action Andretti on Collision this Saturday (September 9). The match was announced as an International Championship open challenge.

AEW wrote: “Saturday Night #AEWCollision LIVE from Cleveland @ 8/7c on TNT! #AEW International Championship Open Challenge @JonMoxley vs @ActionAndretti After a great showing in the Charity Battle Royale, can Andretti pull off his 2nd major upset & defeat Mox to capture his 1st AEW gold?”

Moxley won the International title by defeating Orange Cassidy in the main event of All Out this past Sunday. He then made his first title defense on Dynamite, defeating AR Fox.

This will be Moxley’s first time wrestling on Collision. He wasn’t part of the show during the CM Punk era when there was a soft brand split.

Andretti was one of the 20 entrants in the Over Budget Charity Battle Royale on the pre-show for All Out. The battle royal was won by Hangman Page.

Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse is hosting Collision on Saturday night. The episode will also include the semifinals of AEW’s Grand Slam eliminator tournament:

Jon Moxley wins International title at AEW All Out

Jon Moxley ended AEW All Out with the International Championship.

Moxley ended up being the one to finally end Cassidy’s long reign with the championship. In what ended up being a brutal, bloody war, Moxley picked up the victory after hitting two death riders on a bloody and battered Cassidy.

After Moxley won, he exited the ring with the help of the Blackpool Combat Club as they posed with the championship on the ramp. After Moxley’s music ended, Orange Cassidy got back on his feet to a standing ovation to close out the show.

This ends Cassidy’s run with the International title, which started back on October 12 of last year when he defeated PAC on an episode of AEW Dynamite. Cassidy had consistently defended the title over 30 times throughout the last year, defeating the likes of Jeff Jarrett, Bandido, Swerve Strickland, Lance Archer, and Wheeler Yuta, among others.

Cassidy’s last title defense was this past Wednesday’s Dynamite, defeating Penta El 0 M. As a result, Cassidy went on to face Moxley on Sunday’s show.

Orange Cassidy vs. Jon Moxley official for AEW All Out

Orange Cassidy will officially defend the AEW International title at All Out.

Cassidy successfully defended the title against Penta El 0 M on Wednesday’s Rampage. As a result, Cassidy will now move to All Out this Sunday in Chicago, where he will face Jon Moxley.

After Cassidy won on Wednesday, he cut a promo in the ring saying he doesn’t talk much but he said he was hurt, and with each title defense the backpack was getting a little heavier. But he told Moxley that he was going to need more than a fork to beat him. Moxley came to the ring and the two had a staredown to close the show.

The Blackpool Combat Club have been targeting Best Friends in recent weeks. At Sunday’s All In in Wembley Stadium, Cassidy teamed with Trent Beretta, Chuck Taylor, Eddie Kingston, and Penta El 0 M to defeat The Blackpool Combat Club, Santana, and Ortiz in a Stadium Stampede match. During the All In media scrum, it was announced that Moxley would face the winner of the International title match on Dynamite at All Out.

Here is the updated card for All Out in Chicago on Sunday:

  • AEW International title: Orange Cassidy defends against Jon Moxley
  • TBS Championship: Kris Statlander defends against Ruby Soho
  • TNT Championship: Luchasaurus vs. Darby Allin
  • ROH Tag Team titles: Adam Cole & MJF defend against winners of a battle royal on Rampage
  • ROH Television title: Samoa Joe defends against Shane Taylor
  • Eddie Kingston & Katsuyori Shibata vs. Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta
  • Kenny Omega vs. Konosuke Takeshita
  • FTR & The Young Bucks vs. Bullet Club Gold
  • Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Miro

Jon Moxley to challenge for AEW International title at All Out

Jon Moxley will get a shot at the AEW International title at next Sunday’s All Out from Chicago’s United Center.

Moxley will face the winner of the newly-announced Orange Cassidy vs. Penta El Zero Miedo title match set for this Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite.

While the Cassidy title match was announced Saturday, his opponent wasn’t revealed until the post-All In press conference.

Cassidy and Penta were on the same team for Sunday’s Stadium Stampede victory as well as in a trios match on Saturday’s Collision. This will be their second-ever singles match and first since an April 2021 Dynamite.

In either case, the champion will have recent history with Moxley. Cassidy has been involved with Moxley for several weeks as he and his Best Friends teammates have feuded with the Blackpool Combat Club while Penta recently competed in a three-way with Moxley and Trent Beretta from Best Friends in an anything goes match.

Cassidy and Moxley have never had a singles match while Moxley and Penta have had two.

Here’s the current lineup for All Out:

  • AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy or Penta El Zero Miedo defend against Jon Moxley
  • TNT Champion Luchasaurus defends against Darby Allin
  • Miro vs. Powerhouse Hobbs
  • TBS Champion Kris Statlander defends against Ruby Soho
