Kyle O’Reilly signs with AEW, appears on Dynamite

Kyle O’Reilly has signed with AEW, appearing at Wednesday’s AEW Holiday Bash edition of Dynamite.

Toward the end of a match between Adam Cole and Orange Cassidy, Bobby Fish appeared at ringside. This distracted Cassidy long enough for O’Reilly to appear from behind and attack Cassidy which eventually led to Cole pinning Cassidy to win the match. Last week on Dynamite, Cole had promised a surprise for Holiday Bash.

Tony Khan later confirmed on Twitter that O’Reilly had signed with the company.

After the match had ended, Cole appeared surprised by O’Reilly’s arrival. The Young Bucks then came out and didn’t seem too pleased about the new developments. The segment ended with Cole leaving with O’Reilly and Fish.

Cole, O’Reilly, and Fish will be in action on next Wednesday’s Dynamite against Best Friends and Cassidy.

O’Reilly, who had been with WWE since 2017, had his contract with the company expire earlier this month. He was last seen on the December 7th edition of NXT, where he was laid out by Von Wagner following a cage match.

Page vs. Danielson II announcement set for AEW Dynamite

An announcement regarding AEW World Champion Hangman Page vs. Bryan Danielson II will come on Wednesday’s Holiday Bash edition of AEW Dynamite.

AEW head Tony Khan revealed the news during his weekly appearance on Busted Open Radio, less than a week after he said Danielson was still the no. 1 contender and that he wanted to see a rematch. Khan said he believed Danielson was going to be on the show tonight.

Page and Danielson went to a 60-minute draw at last Wednesday’s Winter is Coming, leaving many to speculate the match might be run back at January’s 8th’s first-ever Battle of the Belts on TNT.

On Twitter, Khan said there were “huge announcements” coming Wednesday in addition to a surprise. Whether those are related to the surprise Adam Cole teased last week in a backstage promo is unknown. Khan did say more would be revealed about the Owen Hart Cup tournaments this week, including a special video.

Here’s the current lineup for Greensboro, North Carolina:

  • CM Punk, Sting and Darby Allin vs. MJF and FTR
  • Orange Cassidy vs. Adam Cole
  • Malakai Black vs. Griff Garrison
  • TBS title tournament semifinal: Ruby Soho vs. Nyla Rose
  • Britt Baker/Tony Schiavone Christmas party
  • Owen Hart Cup tournament announcements
  • Hangman Page vs. Bryan Danielson 2 announcement

Adam Cole vs. Orange Cassidy set for AEW Holiday Bash Dynamite

After being on a collision course for weeks, Adam Cole will face Orange Cassidy for the first time ever on this Wednesday’s Holiday Bash edition of AEW Dynamite.

Cole defeated Wheeler Yuta on last week’s Rampage which was followed by a Superkliq beatdown of Best Friends. Both Cole and Cassidy were on opposite ends of an eight-man tag on this week’s show which involved the Superkliq and Bobby Fish against Best Friends and Rocky Romero.

Wednesday will also see the first semifinal in the TBS title tournament as Ruby Soho will take on Nyla Rose. The winner will take on the victor of Jade Cargill vs. Thunder Rosa, the date for which has yet to be announced.

AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker and Tony Schiavone will also have a Christmas party. Baker will defend against Riho at Battle of the Belts on January 8th.

Excalibur also teased on commentary that fans might hear more about what’s next for AEW World Champion Hangman Page and Bryan Danielson after their 60-minute draw this past Wednesday.

Here’s what’s been announced thus far for Greensboro, North Carolina:

  • CM Punk, Sting and Darby Allin vs. MJF and FTR
  • Orange Cassidy vs. Adam Cole
  • Malakai Black vs. Griff Garrison
  • TBS title tournament semifinal: Ruby Soho vs. Nyla Rose
  • Britt Baker/Tony Schiavone Christmas party

Hook vs. Bear Bronson set for AEW Rampage Holiday Bash

Hook will be in action on the Christmas night AEW Rampage.

Team Taz’s Hook will face Bear Country’s Bear Bronson on the Saturday, December 25 AEW Rampage Holiday Bash. The match was announced during tonight’s Rampage episode.

Hook vs. Bronson joins a TNT Championship match with Sammy Guevara defending the title against former two-time champ Cody Rhodes as the first matches announced for Rampage Holiday Bash. An angle with Guevara saving Rhodes from Dan Lambert, Scorpio Sly and Ethan Page of American Top Team also took place on tonight’s Rampage.

Hook debuted on the December 10 Rampage, defeating Fuego Del Sol in his first AEW match.

AEW GM Tony Khan tweeted:

“Thanks to @OfficialTAZ + @730hook, this Christmas, #AEWRampage, I’m giving the world the gift of HOOK!

It will be a much bigger test: HOOK vs. @bearbronsonBC on Saturday Night December 25 @ 9pm ET/8pm CT, as part of a huge Christmas Night Rampage at a special night and time!”

Guevara-Rhodes TNT title match set for AEW Rampage Holiday Bash

Sammy Guevara will defend the TNT Championship against Cody Rhodes on the AEW Rampage Holiday Bash, airing Christmas night on TNT.

The match was set up on tonight’s AEW Dynamite. Guevara came to the stage for a promo, but was quickly interrupted by Rhodes’s music. Rhodes said that AEW GM Tony Khan had made the match official, and wished Guevara luck.

Rampage will air on Saturday, December 25 rather than on Friday that week. AEW announced today that the Wednesday, December 22 Dynamite and the Christmas night Rampage will be their annual Holiday Bash episodes. Dynamite will air live from Greensboro, North Carolina, while the Christmas night Rampage will be taped on the 22nd after Dynamite.

Rhodes is a two-time former TNT Champion, and was the first to hold the title after winning a tournament final to crown the inaugural champ at the 2020 Double or Nothing pay-per-view.

Guevara has held the TNT title since defeating Miro on the September 29 Dynamite.

AEW Holiday Bash set for both Dynamite, Christmas night Rampage

AEW is bringing back their Holiday Bash theme for the Wednesday, December 22nd edition of Dynamite with this year’s edition extending to a special Saturday Christmas night edition of Rampage as well.

Tony Khan announced the news during a Tuesday appearance on Barstool Sports’ Rasslin’ podcast, adding that he has “huge plans” for the shows.

It’s assumed Rampage is airing on Christmas night as opposed to its usual Friday night slot due to TNT’s annual 24-hour marathon of A Christmas Story.

AEW will make their debut in Greensboro, NC, for that Wednesday’s Dynamite, with Rampage taped afterward. Khan said he hopes the city will be the annual location for their Holiday Bash show and that he didn’t choose the location by accident.

AEW is no stranger to traditions as September’s All Out pay-per-views have always been held at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and their Thanksgiving eve Dynamites have always been held in Chicago.

Last year’s taped Holiday Bash from Jacksonville, Florida, was headlined by then-Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks defending against The Acclaimed, Chris Jericho and MJF vs. Top Flight, the announcement of Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford’s wedding date, and more.

AEW Dynamite video highlights: Holiday Bash

Number three-ranked contender Abadon made her case for an AEW Women’s Championship match last night, attacking champ Hikaru Shida and biting her neck on the Holiday Bash edition of Dynamite.

Abadon appeared at ringside during Shida’s match against Alex Gracia. Shida pulled Abadon over the barricade and Abadon appeared to be unconscious. Shida went on to defeat Gracia.

Shida then approached the fallen Abadon and poked her with a stick. Playing into her undead persona, Abadon jumped to her feet and the two brawled. Abadon then bit Shida’s neck, leaving the AEW Women’s Champion bloody.

In a more traditional wrestling story, The Young Bucks retained their AEW Tag Team titles in the main event of Dynamite. Other tag matches on the show saw Chris Jericho & MJF defeat Top Flight and Jurassic Express take down The Dark Order in a six-man. After Jericho & MJF’s win, Jake Hager challenged Wardlow to a match for next week.

The tease for an angle involving Sting and Darby Allin also continued on last night’s show. Sting was about to address Allin when Team Taz interrupted and cornered Sting in the ring. After the lights went out and came back on, Allin appeared in the ring, forcing Team Taz to stand down.

Penelope Ford and Kip Sabian announced the date for their wedding — February 3 at Beach Break. Best Friends’ music interrupted the announcement, but it turned out to be a swerve from Sabian and Miro. Trent was seen being placed into an ambulance, presumably after an attack from Miro and Sabian.

Dynamite post-show

Young Bucks to defend tag titles at AEW Dynamite Holiday Bash

The Young Bucks will look for the first defense of their AEW Tag Team Titles on next Wednesday’s Holiday Bash edition of AEW Dynamite.

Matt and Nick Jackson will face The Acclaimed after Anthony Bowens and Max Caster won their eighth straight match Wednesday with a win over SCU. Afterward, they called out the Bucks who were at ringside, demanding a title shot for next week.

The taped show will air at 10 PM Eastern or immediately after the Boston Celtics-Milwaukee Bucks NBA game concludes.

in another featured match, Chris Jericho and MJF will team up to face Top Flight, made after Wednesday’s 12-man tag match when the young upstart team challenged the Inner Circle leaders afterward.

In other announced matches:

  • AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida will be in action against an opponent to be named as she prepares to face top challenger Abadon in the future.
  • PAC will face The Butcher. PAC’s Death Triangle group has been feuding with Eddie Kingston, Butcher and The Blade ever since PAC returned.
  • Jurassic Express will face the Dark Order’s Colt Cabana, 5 and 10 in a six man tag. FTR came out after the match was announced and voiced their displeasure at the Express getting attention.
  • Dustin Rhodes will face Evil Uno of the Dark Order. Uno has been unsuccessfully trying to recruit Rhodes into the group for several weeks.
  • The wedding date for Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford will be announced.
