ROH War of the Worlds live results: The Elite come to Toronto

Submitted by reader Jeff Lam

– Rhett Titus & Caprice Coleman defeated Motor City Machine Guns

– Hirooki Goto defeated Shane Taylor

The crowd heat for this was lacking as some people didn’t really buy into Taylor or perhaps didn’t know who he was. This might have been the weakest match on the card.

– Dalton Castle & The Boys defeated RPG Vice & Gedo

This had lots of comedy. Castle was really over with the Toronto crowd.

– Bully Ray defeated Hangman Page and Punishment Martinez

They had a good triple threat match. Of course, Bully Ray was over with the fans. He did classic Dudley Boyz spots with Page filling the role of D-Von.

– Cody defeated Will Ospreay

Both guys were really over and this match was super hot. Ospreay used a lot of his signature high spots, but toned things down a bit from the type of matches he was having last year. Cody was solid in his role and they had a good back and forth match.

– Tetsuya Naito & BUSHI defeated Matt Taven & Vinny Marseglia

This had an interesting dynamic given that both teams are heels. They had The Kingdom cut a heel promo on the crowd to counter that, making fun of the audience and the Toronto Raptors. Los Ingobernables de Japon (especially Naito) ended up being very over with the crowd anyway.

Naito hit the Destino on Marseglia to get the win. The match lacked heat a bit because no one bought that the Los Ingobernables team would lose.

– The Briscoes defeated EVIL & SANADA and Beer City Bruiser & Silas Young

The Briscoes ended up getting the win in this triple threat tag match. SANADA has quite the presence. The crowd wasn’t really into Beer City Bruiser and Young, but they managed to win the audience over with high spots of their own.

– KUSHIDA defeated Jay Lethal

This was my favorite match of the night. It was really strong and they did a lot of pure wrestling. It went back and forth as they did some great counters. KUSHIDA nailed the Lethal Injection on Lethal at one point.

– The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi & The Addiction (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian)

No one on this show was as over as The Elite. They were like rock stars to the crowd. As over as the Bucks were when they entered the ring, it was nothing compared to Omega. It’s just amazing to see how much has changed in a year.

The match was full of crazy high spots and it never let up. The crowd was unglued for the whole thing, and it must have gone 30 minutes at least. Daniels was going to nail Omega with the championship belt at one point, but Cody ran in and grabbed the title from behind to make the save. The match finished with Omega hitting the One Winged Angel on Daniels for the pin.

ROH Milwaukee, WI, live results: Young Bucks vs. The Addiction

– Stacy Shadows defeated Sierra in a Women of Honor match

These were two local wrestlers from Brew City Wrestling.

Neither Bobby Cruise nor Scarlett Bordeaux was there as an announcer. Silas Young and Beer City Bruiser basically ran the show last night.

– The Motor City Machine Guns defeated The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Vinny Marseglia)

This match spilled into the crowd and to the bar area. Taven and Marseglia took shots of Jack Daniels during the match. The crowd chanted “shots” for all of Taven’s strikes as he promised to buy shots for the crowd several years back. MCMG got the win.

– Beer City Bruiser defeated Punishment Martinez, Shane Taylor, and Cheeseburger in a four-way match

This was a standard ROH four-way. Cheeseburger got ragdolled around and did comedy spots. Martinez was somewhat of a disappointment to me. BCB got the hometown rub and won the match.

– Adam Cole defeated Jay White

Both did solid work here. Cole hit multiple shining wizards and connected with a superkick off of a high-risk move from White. Hangman Page interfered and put a noose on White. As this happened, Romantic Touch (Rhett Titus under a mask) came out to make the save.

– Hangman Page defeated Romantic Touch

This was an impromptu match after the previous one.

– ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions Bully Ray & The Briscoes defeated War Machine & Dalton Castle in a Milwaukee street fight

This was easily the match of the night and the crowd was really into it. War Machine came out as Castle’s Boys. The match was announced as a Milwaukee street fight. They used chairs and beer cans, did hoss spots, and there was an impromptu peacock-off between Castle and Bully Ray that popped the crowd hard for at least five minutes.

Bully Ray did a table spot and put Castle through it for the win. He got on the mic and said he is happy to be in ROH and said he is happy to do that kind of match again. He was incredibly gracious to the crowd. He seemed excited to be there last night.

– Will Ferrara defeated Jared Jaxx

Jaxx is a local from BCW. Ferrara refused the Code of Honor and won by pin in a forgettable match.

– ROH World Television Champion Marty Scurll defeated Delirious

Scurll was super over. He’s an awesome, fresh character. He did the finger break spot, and since Delirious was barefoot, a toe-breaking spot as well. He won with the chickenwing.

– ROH World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks defeated The Addiction (ROH World Champion Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian)

As usual, the Bucks were the main attraction. There were plenty of Bullet Club, The Elite, and Young Bucks shirts in the crowd. Beer City Bruiser initially announced that The Addiction would not compete due to food poisoning. The Bucks then offered an open challenge, which The Addiction accepted dressed up as the Legion of Doom — Hawk Daniels and Animal Kazarian.

They had a great match. I’m sure these guys can do this in their sleep at this point. Bucks hit the Meltzer Driver for the win.

– Silas Young defeated Jay Lethal

This was a good match, but it started about three hours in. The crowd was kind of dead after the six-man and Young Bucks matches. Young got the win by pinfall. He’s so agile for a guy his size.

Overall, this was a very good show. The ROH roster seems pretty thin at this point. The Bucks are definitely the most over, though the six-man street fight stole this show. People walking out seemed to enjoy the show.

My biggest takeaway from it was that ROH came to Milwaukee in June 2016 with a show that had Moose, Lio Rush, Kyle O’Reilly, Bobby Fish, Donovan Dijak, Kamaitachi, RPG Vice, Michael Elgin, ACH, Juice Robinson, and Roderick Strong. It’s pretty crazy how most of those guys are gone.

ROH TV results: Briscoes vs. Addiction on the Final Battle go-home show

Ring of Honor television from this past week was the go-home show leading to Final Battle. Taped in Baltimore and featuring the final hype for ROH’s biggest show of the year, the show also arguably featured two good matches.

Alex Shelley provided guest commentary on the first match alongside announcers Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino. Shelley gushed about both wrestlers in the opening match.

Lio Rush defeated Jonathan Gresham

These two had a heck of a match. Rush continues to shine when given any opportunity. Gresham more than held his own as well in this one. They did some chain wrestling and flashy exchanges in the early portion of the match. Traditionalists might not like the fast pace and lack of long selling, but the excitement seen was impressive.

As the match progressed, the spots became more physical and more intricate. They exchanged many near falls down the stretch. Gresham kicked out of a Rush Hour finisher. Moments later, Rush downed him with the Rush Hour a few more times before he leapt off the top with a very high frog splash. Rush then covered him for the pinfall.

Afterwards, Chris Sabin joined Shelley at ringside. They had “business” to attend to. On the house mic, Shelley first put over the previous match and its participants. Sabin called them the future of ROH. They are taking on a mentor role, according to commentary from Kevin Kelly. Motor City Machine Guns were almost over-the-top in being babyfaces. Maybe that is a sign that this leads to a heel turn down the line.

A sit-down promo with Kyle O’Reilly hyped the main event for Final Battle. On the PPV, O’Reilly challenges Adam Cole for the ROH World Championship. In this promo, O’Reilly talked about their history leading into the title match. He talked about them teaming back in the day in Future Shock and their transition from friends to enemies.

O’Reilly also mentioned that Cole has continually cost him winning the World title. O’Reilly vowed to win the title at Final Battle. He brought up a previous bloodbath they had in the Hammerstein Ballroom, which is also the site of this year’s Final Battle. The promo was tremendous and was edited together well to include clips of their history. Watch it here.

Later in the show, the final segment was Cole’s rebuttal. He talked about many of the same things as O’Reilly, except he put his spin on it. Edited together with clips of their history like the earlier promo, it got over the story they are trying to tell. Watch Cole’s promo here.

In another hype segment, a Final Battle control center rundown talked about the full card for Final Battle.

The Briscoes defeated The Addiction

Addiction refused to participate in the Code of Honor handshake beforehand. That would play into the aftermath following the lengthy match. It went through two commercials breaks, which is fitting since the match basically had three stages.

The first stage led to Mark and Jay Briscoe shining as they looked to dispatch Daniels and Kazarian. In the second stage, Addiction worked over Mark, getting heat on him to build to the hot tag.

In the third and final stage, Jay ran wild off a hot tag. Addiction got in some near falls during the match, and the two teams had heated exchanges in the closing moments. Lots of big moves at the end. Mark kicked out after Celebrity Rehab. A few moments later, Briscoes blocked a Best Meltzer Ever.

Eventually, Jay took out Kazarian with a Death Valley Driver. Daniels then took a Jay Driller, and Mark followed up with a Froggy-bow before covering Daniels for the pin.

After the match, The Briscoes offered their hands for Addiction to shake. A tense staredown ensued until Addiction relented and shook their hands just as the show closed.

The next episode of ROH TV features an eight-man tag match.

ROH Glory by Honor live results: The Young Bucks vs. The Addiction

Submitted by Jared Walsh from the Frontier Fieldhouse

– Kelly Klein defeated Thunderkitty

Klein remained undefeated with the victory.

– Cheeseburger & Will Ferrara defeated The Tempura Boyz (Sho & Yohey)

Fans were very into Cheeseburger, and both teams received nice ovations after the match.

– Donovan Dijak defeated Beer City Bruiser and Punishment Martinez in a triple threat match

Really fun match here as all three guys showed a lot of athleticism as well as big power spots. Dijak pinned Bruiser to pick up the win.

– Kamaitachi defeated Nick Jackson, ACH, and Angel de Oro in a four corner survival match

This was exactly what you’d expect from a match with these participants. There were lots of big, high flying spots that the crowd ate up. All four guys had a chance to shine at various times, and they certainly took advantage.

– Jay Briscoe defeated Dalton Castle

This one got a lot of time and turned out to be a really solid match. Lots of shenanigans and posing early from Castle, and the crowd really enjoyed playing into them. A good amount of very physical offense from each wrestler.

– Jay White & The Motor City Machine Guns defeated The Cabinet (Rhett Titus, Kenny King, and Caprice Coleman)

Lots of great combination spots by both teams. The match got a bit out of control at the end with everyone hitting big moves in the ring at once, but White ended up getting the pin on Coleman.

The Cabinet hit the ring again after the match and attacked the face team, drawing a lot of boos from the crowd.

– Colt Cabana defeated Mark Briscoe

A fair bit of comedy during the early portion of this one, but they settled into a serious, physical match with a lot of chops back and forth. As the hometown guy, Cabana received an enthusiastic ovation after the match.

– Jay Lethal defeated Matt Jackson

Some back and forth action led to Matt superkicking the referee by mistake. Nick came out to perform the Meltzer Driver on a fallen Lethal, but they were taken out as The Addiction
ran in to make the save. Kazarian demanded The Addiction receive their tag title rematch, and the bell rang to begin the unscheduled bout.

– The Addiction defeated ROH Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks via DQ

So much high risk, spectacular offense in this one. Many fans stood the entirety of the match, expecting to see a follow up of sorts to their Ladder Wars match. Each team hit all their big moves, and a ladder spot was teased (but not delivered) as well.

A table was set up and teased for quite awhile outside the ring, and just as it seemed that The Addiction would be taking the titles back, Adam Cole and Hangman Page ran out and put Daniels from the top rope through the table outside, causing the DQ and allowing the Bucks to remain champions. Bullet Club then put the boots to Kazarian, but reDRagon came out in order to make the save.

Before starting the scheduled main event of reDRagon vs. Adam Cole & Hangman Page, the two teams brawled outside the ring, exchanging chair shots and blows to the barricade. Referee Todd Sinclair stopped Fish from hitting Page in the head with a chair inside the ring, and called for the bell in order to begin the match as he regained control.

– reDRagon defeated Adam Cole & Hangman Page

This one brought the crowd down a bit after all the previous action, but they got up for the big spots throughout the duration of the match. The match ended as Fish got Page to submit, though Page got the last laugh as he took out Fish afterwards.

As Cole went to take out O’Reilly with the belt, Jay Lethal came out and took the strap away to make the save. The three stared each other down, and Silas Young (who had been on commentary with Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino), took the belt from Lethal, making it a four-way stare down. Each wrestler went their separate ways, and Young and Lethal cut promos with Kelly and claimed they would become the next ROH champion.

ROH TV results: Okada & RPG Vice vs. Kamaitachi & The Addiction

Ring of Honor television from this past week focused on tag team wrestling with two traditional tag matches, an impromptu tag match, and a six-man tag in the main event.

Taped at Sam Town’s in Las Vegas, the show continues the build towards the next pay-per-view, All-Star Extravaganza.

Steve Corino returned to color commentary on this episode after his storyline suspension was lifted. Of course, he was still kayfabing his run on commentary as the masked Mr. Wrestling #3.

Guerillas of Destiny defeated All Night Express w/ Caprice Coleman

ANX came out with an entourage from The Cabinet. They all left the scene before the match started, except for Coleman. They had a standard tag team match underway when a brawl erupted. Coleman tried to interfere only to get dispatched by Tama Tonga. After hitting their Guerrilla Warfare (double team DDT bomb) finisher, Tanga Roa covered Rhett Titus for the pinfall.

After the match, Coleman cut a promo saying The Cabinet was not done. He vowed to “finish our work” on Bullet Club. This feud with Bullet Club is apparently The Cabinet again attempting to “make wrestling great again.” Hopefully after the presidential election, their campaign will end as the gimmick arguably jumped the shark weeks ago.

With follow up on an angle from the previous episode, Jay Lethal cut a fiery promo on Tetsuya Naito ahead of their upcoming match at the PPV. According to Lethal, the feud is now both business and personal after Naito and EVIL both bailed on Lethal.

In some character development, Shane Taylor told his side of the story as it relates his background with Raymond Rowe. He talked about Rowe taking him in then Rowe allegedly turning his back on him when as he rose through the ranks.

Shane Taylor & Keith Lee defeated Ken Phoenix & Ricardo Rojas

This was a complete squash. On commentary, Corino did put over Phoenix as an unsung hero behind the scenes in ROH. Phoenix stayed in most of this match to get pummeled. His partner, Rojas, came in to get spiked by Keith Lee with a uranage. To finish off their prey, Lee powerbombed Phoenix then Taylor jumped off the middle rope with a splash, and Taylor covered him for the pin.

Taylor called out War Machine. Hanson and Rowe obliged them, but not before Rowe cut a scathing promo about their feud, relating it to their past. Rowe said he figured Taylor would be the last person to stab him in the back. Rowe said they were “just here for violence” and warned Taylor that they would regret making this challenge.

War Machine vs. Shane Taylor & Keith Lee ended in a double DQ

Shine for Rowe at the start, then he got cut off. Heat on Rowe until Hanson got a hot tag and cleaned house. Taylor hit Rowe with a chair, so Hanson hit Lee with a chair in retaliation. Referee Todd Sinclair called for the bell and threw out the match. The brawl continued until Lee and Taylor gained the upperhand. They set up two chairs in the ring and powerbombed Rowe on the chairs. This feud must continue!

Matt Taven, with a decorative walking stick surely inspired by an admiration for hair metal bands, provided guest commentary for the main event six-man tag team match.

The Addiction & Kamaitachi defeated Roppongi Vice & IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada

Tiger Hattori was the referee. Okada and RPG Vice represented their Chaos stable in this match. Kamaitachi demanded to square off with Okada, who eventually cleared the ring. The action was wild and back-and-forth until things settled down with heat on Baretta that went through a commercial. After the break, Baretta made a hot tag to Okada. He ran wild, leading to his signature elbow drop off the top rope. Okada went for the Rainmaker clothesline on Daniels, but Kazarian made the save.

Everybody got involved in the later stage of the match with high spots galore. Okada dropped Daniels with a neckbreaker and went to cover him, but Kamaitachi made the save. Moments later, RPG Vice went for their Strong Zero finisher but Daniels countered. Daniels executed Anegel’s Wing on Baretta to dispatch him. Addiction then finished off Romero with the Best Meltzer Ever, and Daniels covered Romero to score the pin.

On the next episode of ROH that begins airing in syndication this weekend, it’s Hiroshi Tanahashi & Michael Elgin vs. Adam Cole & Hangman Page on the go-home show ahead of All-Star Extravaganza.
