Two titles change hands at AAA Triplemania XXXIII

Two titles have changed hands in AAA.

The first title change took place when El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. won AAA’s Latin American Championship, defeating El Mesias. Dorian Roldan was in Mesias’ corner and interfered, causing Wagner’s father, Dr. Wagner Jr., to hop over the barricade and lay out Roldan. Mesias got a nearfall with a spear, but his father’s distraction at ringside allowed Wagner to cut off Mesias from the top rope, hitting a superplex then connecting with the Wagner driver for the win.

After the match, Wagner’s father handed him the title as they both celebrated in the ring.

In a street fight, Angel and Berto lost the AAA Tag Team titles to Psycho Clown and Pagano in a street fight. In a match filled with kendo sticks, barbed wire, and a lot of tables, Psycho Clown won the match for his team after hitting a spanish fly off the top rope. After the match, the rest of the clowns came out and celebrated with the new champions.

The Reina de Reinas title was also on the line at Triplemania, but Flammer kept her title after pinning Faby Apache, who had her foot on the ropes. Tirantes, the heel referee in AAA, didn’t see Apache’s foot on the rope and counted anyway, giving Flammer the win. After the match, Natalya and Apache brawled.

Omos debuts, wins Copa Bardahl at AAA Triplemania XXXIII

Omos has resurfaced in AAA.

This year’s Copa Bardahl battle royal, which opened Triplemania on Saturday, was won by the rarely seen WWE star who last eliminated La Parka to win the trophy. Omos came in at number 13 and threw multiple men over the top rope. Most notably, 7’3 giant and the 3’3 Microman met face-to-face several times, with Omos eventually lifting him up in the air and throwing him to the floor, with several wrestlers catching him on his way down.

Another surprise was Otis, who hadn’t been seen on WWE television in recent weeks. Alongside a brief alliance with Microman, he also teamed up with Pimpinela Escarlata, the two forming an alliance until Otis inadvertently eliminated Escarlata.

A mixture of WWE and AAA talent were featured in the battle royal, including Laredo Kid, Joaquin Wilde, Abismo Negro, Taurus, Aerostar, Mecha Wolf, Cruz Del Toro, Cibernetico, and Octagon Jr, who won last year’s Copa Bardahl.

Triple H speaks to AAA roster ahead of Triplemania XXXIII

Triple H took time to speak to talent before the start of Triplemania.

WWE’s COO was seen with Shawn Michaels, Nick Khan and Dorian Roldan backstage as he spoke to the roster about not wanting to change AAA’s product, but instead help make it better.

“I want to make sure everyone understands that we’re not here to change this. We’re not here to take this over. We’re not here to make it something different,” he explained. “We’re here to do this with you, to enhance what you do, and make it grow beyond anybody’s wildest dreams. Let’s take on this tonight and build on it from here. All you guys have been doing it now, we’re going to do it together so let’s turn this into the biggest thing we can possibly think of, let’s dream big and go to work to make this everything we want it to be.”

At the start of Triplemania, Triple H, Michaels, Khan, and Roldan were also seen in the opening ceremony along with Marisela Pena and Fillip Executive Chairman Alberto Fasja as the Mexican National Anthem was sung.

Triplemania will be headlined by El Hijo del Vikingo defending the AAA Mega Championship against Dominik Mysterio, El Grande Americano, and Dragon Lee in a four-way match.

New match added to AAA Triplemania XXXIII

A battle royal is set for Triplemania.

Through WWE’s preview of the show on their website, it was announced that the Copa Bardahl would be taking place on Saturday in Mexico City. Participants for the match have yet to be revealed.

“In the Copa Bardahl (Bardahl Cup), participants enter the match at timed intervals, similar to a Royal Rumble Match,” WWE explained on their website. “Eliminations occur via pinfall. The last remaining competitor wins the Copa Bardahl trophy.”

The past few years have seen AAA hold a Copa Bardahl battle royal at Triplemania, with last year’s taking place at the third event in Mexico City. Octagon Jr. emerged as the winner, last eliminating Zumbido.

WWE Hall of Famer to be part of AAA Triplemania XXXIII commentary team

JBL is heading to Mexico.

On Monday’s Something to Wrestle With podcast, the WWE legend announced that he would be heading to Mexico City this weekend as part of the Triplemania festivities, joining the commentating booth alongside Corey Graves.

“I just got the deal from WWE, not a deal. They asked me to come out to do commentary. Some of you call that a deal or not. It’s an engagement, it’s an appearance, whatever you want to call it. But I’m very excited to go be a part of Triplemania,” JBL said.

JBL later revealed that Jeremy Borash gave him the okay to make the announcement on Something to Wrestle With.

PWInsider recently reported that Corey Graves would be the lead announcer for this weekend’s Triplemania, the first held under the WWE banner. Graves also did English commentary for WWE & AAA’s joint event Worlds Collide back in June with Konnan providing color commentary.

JBL has made appearances in the last year for AAA as part of the top heel stable alongside Konnan, Dorian Roldan, and Alberto El Patron, with the group recently turning against Alberto. At the most recent television taping, Alberto lost his match against Mesias and as a result, had to leave AAA in storyline.

Report: English lead announcer set for AAA Triplemania XXXIII

The lead announcer for Triplemania is reportedly set.

PWInsider reported on Saturday that Corey Graves will do the announcing duties for Triplemania XXXIII, which takes place on August 16 in Mexico City. This will mark the second time he’s done commentary for the promotion, with his first being at the joint WWE/AAA show Worlds Collide back in June alongside AAA legend Konnan, who provided color commentary.

This year’s Triplemania, traditionally Lucha Libre AAA’s biggest show of the year, will be the first under the WWE banner with the purchase taking place back April. The show will be headlined by El Hijo del Vikingo defending the AAA Mega title in a four-way match against Dragon Lee, Dominik Mysterio, and El Grande Americano.

The show, which will have both English and Spanish commentary, is set to air on YouTube and will be held at Arena CDMX in Mexico City.

Triple H announces AAA Triplemania 33 will stream on YouTube

Triplemania will be airing on YouTube.

Triple H on social media praised AAA’s television event in Mexico City from Friday, putting over El Grande American and Dominik Mysterio. He then announced that AAA’s upcoming Triplemania event will stream on YouTube on August 16.

“@luchalibreaaa is on fire. Last night in Mexico City…Wall-to-wall action from every match, a sing-along with El Grande Americano, and proof that no matter where he is…@DomMysterio35 is a STAR. #TripleMania streams on YouTube August 16 from Mexico City…are you ready?,” he wrote.

A four-way match for the AAA Mega title was set up on Friday’s television event. Champion Vikingo issued an open challenge, with Dragon Lee making a surprise appearance to accept. El Grande Americano also came out and was interested in a title match. The segment ended with a masked man coming out and taking out everyone, revealing himself to be none other than Dominik Mysterio.

This will be the second AAA show that will stream on YouTube. A joint show between WWE and AAA, Worlds Collide, took place back in June. El Hijo del Vikingo defeated Chad Gable in the main event to retain the Mega title.
