WWE Raw March 17 Netflix viewership remains consistent; Dave Meltzer analysis

Image: WWE

The 3/17 episode of WWE Raw, built around the first John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes confrontation post-Cena heel turn, was a very interesting number as Netflix listed 5,800,000 hours viewed and 3,100,000 global views.

The problem with that is that they listed the show’s run time as one hour 49 minutes. However, the show’s actual run time was two hours 24 minutes not only live, but for the next day as well on replay as I checked and it was still two hours and 24 minutes. They did eventually edit it down to one hour and 49 minutes but that was two days later.  But once again, they came up with the number of viewers by dividing the total hours by the replay time number, not the live and same day number of time.

In doing so, they listed actual viewing time as down 3.3 percent from last week while at the same time listing total viewers as up 3.3 percent.  While this sounds contradictory, it really isn’t on the surface because it was a shorter show than the week before except for those who watched on replay for the first 24 hours where it was 35 minutes longer. But even using the most favorable identical percentage of the “live show until the replay is up without commercials” when clearly that wasn’t the case, you end up with almost identical numbers to the Madison Square Garden show and the CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins cage match.

Subscriber exclusive: WWE Raw March 10 viewership on Netflix remains steady

Image: WWE

The 3/10 WWE Raw show, built around the CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins cage match from Madison Square Garden, saw the show’s second straight worldwide increase.

The early numbers last week indicated an increase, which was a solid 4.8 percent up from the strong numbers of the show the week before. That show’s numbers were driven by the John Cena turn angle on Cody Rhodes at Elimination Chamber.

Netflix itself listed a 3.2 percent decline from 6.3 million hours viewed and 3.1 million viewers to this week’s 6.0 million hours viewed and 3.0 million viewers.

However, the decline is because while the live show was the same as the week before, the replay show was shorter in time, cut to one hour and 49 minutes.

Figuring real numbers combining live and replay viewing, you get 2,774,000 views and roughly 3,800,000 worldwide viewers over the one week period, both up 4.8 percent from the 3/3 show.

Dave Meltzer on Netflix viewership for February 24 WWE Raw & Elimination Chamber

Image: WWE

The 2/24 WWE Raw show on Netflix took another step down in viewers.

Netflix claimed 5.5 million hours, the same as for the prior two weeks, but due to the show being longer last week, they listed 2.6 million views, a drop of 7.1 percent from the prior two weeks.

Regarding Elimination Chamber, we don’t know how the show did internationally as it didn’t make the Netflix top ten for the week. No. 10 would have been 2.1 million views or about 2.94 million viewers outside the U.S.  Because such a high percentage of Netflix viewership is the U.S., if you aren’t on in the U.S., it’s harder to crack the top ten as SmackDown never does because it’s not on Netflix in the U.S., while Raw thus far always has.

Royal Rumble did 2.1 million views so all we know is that this was lower than Royal Rumble, which one would say is to be expected.  But this is also a number that includes viewings through Monday night. With all the pub of the John Cena turn, there was a chance it could have beaten Rumble, but it didn’t.

Dave Meltzer on WWE Raw Netflix viewership for February 10

Image: WWE

The WWE Raw on 2/10 continued its viewership decline on Netflix which is now down 60 percent from the debut show. Based on our calculations, it dropped another 7.9 percent from the 2/3 show, which was the show after the Royal Rumble. Netflix itself lists a larger drop.

The difference is that the replay was one hour 50 minutes on 2/10 instead of one hour 54 minutes on 2/3.

Netflix listed 5.5 million hours viewed and 2.8 million views. However, that would again be going with the idea that almost everyone watched the replay show and nobody watched it live. Going on the 80/20 split that Netflix has stated of live to not-live, the actual views would be 2,361,000 and an estimated 3,235,000 worldwide viewers.

Viewership for episode five of WWE Raw on Netflix

For the first time since its premiere on Netflix, WWE Raw has shown a week-over-week increase in viewership.

Netflix lists that the February 3 episode of Raw generated 3.1 million views globally in its first week (February 3-9). The show was Raw’s Royal Rumble fallout episode, taking place two nights after the PLE.

After ranking ninth the previous week, Raw was back up to seventh in Netflix’s weekly top 10 rankings for English-language TV shows. It ranked as a top 10 program in seven countries: Bolivia, Canada, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

The viewership number is up from the 2.9 million views the January 27 episode of Raw did in its first week.

  • January 6 — 5.9 million views (17.7 million hours viewed)
  • January 13 — 3.7 million views (8.2 million hours viewed)
  • January 20 — 3.0 million views (6.6 million hours viewed)
  • January 27 — 2.9 million views (6.6 million hours viewed)
  • February 3 — 3.1 million views (6.1 million hours viewed)

For Netflix’s methodology, views are defined as the total hours viewed for the program divided by the total runtime.

The Night Agent season two, The Recruit season two, American Manhunt: OJ Simpson, Sweet Magnolias season four, Apple Cider Vinegar, and The Recruit season one were the shows that ranked above Raw in the English-language TV category this week.

Viewership for episode four of WWE Raw on Netflix

The January 27 edition of WWE Raw ranked ninth in its category in Netflix’s weekly top 10.

Netflix lists that the Royal Rumble go-home episode of Raw generated 2.9 million views globally from January 27-February 2, placing it ninth among shows in the English-language TV category. The episode had 6.6 million hours viewed in total.

The viewership number is down slightly from the previous week’s Raw.

Here’s a look at the viewership each episode of Raw on Netflix has done in their respective weekly rankings (Netflix defines views as the total hours viewed for the program divided by the total runtime):

  • January 6 — 5.9 million views (17.7 million hours viewed)
  • January 13 — 3.7 million views (8.2 million hours viewed)
  • January 20 — 3.0 million views (6.6 million hours viewed)
  • January 27 — 2.9 million views (6.6 million hours viewed)

Though the PLE was not available on Netflix in the United States due to WWE’s deal with Peacock, the Royal Rumble — which took place on Saturday — ranked 10th in Netflix’s English-language TV show category with 2.1 million views. That’s only counting views that would have been generated through the end of the weekend.

Raw was a top 10 show in five countries this week: Bolivia, Canada, Mexico, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

The Royal Rumble was a top 10 show in 27 different countries, including ranking first in both Bolivia and Mexico.

Netflix publishes its weekly top 10 every Tuesday. The Night Agent season two finished first in the English-language TV category this week with 15.2 million views.

Viewership for episode three of WWE Raw on Netflix

The January 20 edition of WWE Raw ranked seventh in its category on Netflix’s weekly top 10 chart.

Netflix lists that the Raw episode generated three million views globally from January 20-26, down from the first two episodes that had 5.9 million views and 3.7 million views in their respective first weeks. Views are defined as the total hours viewed for the program divided by the total runtime.

Raw had 6.6 million hours viewed in total for the episode.

In the English-language TV shows category, Raw ranked behind The Night Agent season two (13.9 million views), XO, Kitty season two (9.2 million), American Primeval (6.7 million), The Night Agent season one (4.9 million), XO, Kitty season one (3.8 million), and Missing You (3.2 million).

Raw had ranked fourth in the category each of its first two weeks on Netflix.

Squid Game season two again took the top spot in the non-English TV show category with 7.9 million views and 56.7 million hours viewed for its seven episodes.

Netflix’s weekly rankings are posted every Tuesday. The January 20 Raw was a top 10 show in six different countries this past week: USA, Canada, Mexico, Ecuador, Bolivia, and the United Kingdom.
