Impact Wrestling results: Best of 2020, part two

Impact Wrestling returned for week two of their Best of specials, showcasing the best matches of 2020 as well as their Year-End awards.

The show opened with a Brodie Lee memorial graphic.

Scott D’Amore and Josh Mathews hosted the show. Throughout the night, we had a series of showcase matches, award announcements, and backstage segments building towards Genesis and Hard to Kill.

The two big awards left for this show were Moment of the Year and Match of the Year.

Moment of the Year Award was given to the Slammiversary XVIII debuts and returns, where we saw the return of the Motor City Machine Guns, the return of ECIII, the debut of Heath, the debut of Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows, and the five-person main event with Ace Austin, Eddie Edwards, Trey Miguel, with the returning Eric Young and Rich Swann. Eddie Edwards would go on to win that match to become a two-time Impact World champion.

The Match of The Year was, in fact, the aforementioned Slammiversary XVIII Impact World championship Elimination five-way match between Eddie Edwards vs Ace Austin vs Eric Young vs Trey Miguel vs Rich Swann. That would also trigger the storyline feud between Eric Young and Rich Swann that would build all the way to the main event of Bound For Glory in October.

Matches that were shown throughout the night include:

  • Willie Mack defeating X-Division champion Ace Austin at Rebellion
  • Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) defeating Impact Tag Team champions The North (Ethan Page & Josh Alexander) on the July 21st episode of Impact
  • Manik defeating X-Division Champion Rohit Raju at Final Resolution

They also aired Ken Shamrock’s Hall of Fame induction speech in full.

Other segments throughout the show saw Deonna Purrazzo cutting a promo accepting Taya Valkyrie’s challenge for a Knockouts Championship match at Hard To Kill. She said that Taya is the longest reigning champion of the division, and when she defeats her, she’ll be the greatest champion ever.

We had a couple of skits by some of the Impact roster telling us their 2021 resolutions and plans. Among them were Impact World Champion Rich Swann, Willie Mack, Kiera Hogan, Tasha Steelz, Jordynne Grace, Brian Myers, and Eddie Edwards.

Lastly, Mathews and D’Amore announced the card for next week, including Rhino & Cousin Jake vs. Eric Young & Joe Doering, Moose vs. Mathew Palmer, Eddie Edwards vs. Sami Callihan, and the return of Kenny Omega.

Impact, AXS TV announce ‘Wrestle Week’ as lead-in to Hard to Kill

On Wednesday, Impact Wrestling and AXS TV announced three days of programming that will lead into their January 16th Hard To Kill pay-per-view.

On Tuesday, January 12th, AXS will air this year’s Bound For Glory starting at 4 PM Eastern. The October 24th PPV featured Rich Swann winning the World title, Su Yung winning the Knockouts title, The North winning the Tag Team titles, and a cinematic match between Moose and EC3.

Following that night’s Impact at 10 PM Eastern will be ‘Impact In 60’, a show that “puts the spotlight on some of the most unforgettable matches and moments from across IMPACT’s rich history including those from the past year.”

On Thursday, January 14th, AXS will air ‘Impact Wrestling: This Is Hard To Kill’ at 9 PM Eastern, a countdown-style show featuring several of the talents on the PPV.

On Friday, January 15th, AXS will air back-to-back showings of ‘Bad A$$ Movie Night With The Good Brothers: Kickboxer’ starting at 8 PM Eastern as Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson will do a watchalong of the iconic Jean Claude Van Damme movie.

Finally on Saturday, AXS will air a one hour live red carpet pre-game show called ‘Live Countdown To Hard To Kill’ starting at 7 PM.

Hard To Kill is headlined by AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and Impact Tag Team Champions The Good Brothers vs. Impact World Champion Rich Swann and the Motor City Machine Guns.

Tony Khan invites Impact to ‘send people’ to AEW Dynamite any time

In their latest video that aired on tonight’s Impact Wrestling, Tony Khan invited the company to send people to AEW Dynamite.

After Khan mentioned his business investments in Nashville, he said he could stop the Kenny Omega & Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) vs. Rich Swann and Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) match at Impact’s Hard to Kill PPV event at any time with an injunction. However, he said that if Impact wanted Omega to wrestle their guys, he’s fine with that. He invited Impact to send wrestlers to AEW Dynamite ‘this week or any week’.

Following a rundown of tomorrow’s card, Khan mentioned Impact Wrestling’s tag team scene and said he would be looking at them and seeing what their contract status was.

  • The Young Bucks vs. The Acclaimed for the AEW Tag Team titles

  • Hikaru Shida in action

  • PAC vs. The Butcher

Impact Wrestling results: Best of 2020, part one

Impact Wrestling returned with a two-week holiday special, showcasing the best matches of 2020 as well as their Year-End Awards.

Scott D’Amore and Josh Matthews hosted the show tonight. Throughout the night, we had a series of showcase matches, award announcements, and backstage segments building towards Genesis and Hard to Kill.

The awards given on this episode were focused on the performers themselves, awarding the best of each division:

  • Deonna Purrazzo won the Wrestler of the Year 2020. She said that she just wasn’t the Knockout of the Year, the best technical wrestler of the year, but as voted by the fans, the Best Wrestler of the Year, all in less than 7 months since her debut. She invited us all to enter the era of Virtuosa.
  • Purrazzo also won the Knockout of the Year 2020. She brought up how she became a 2-time Knockouts champion this year, had the best matches of the year, and became the first-ever Ironwoman in Impact history.
  • Ace Austin won the 2020 X-Division Wrestler of the Year. He cut a promo accepting it, saying that he really just spent only about 4 months in the X-Division, but it was enough for him to win it. He said he’d like to revisit the X-Division soon.
  • The North won the 2020 Impact Tag Team of the Year. We saw Ethan Page call Alexander on the phone giving him the news, telling him that even if they are going through some hard times, they’re still the best, as voted by the fans. Alexander agreed that maybe this was how things would get better, but when he called back, Karate Man answered the phone and Alexander raged.

Matches shown throughout the night:

  • X-Division champion Ace Austin defeated Trey Miguel at Hard to Kill
  • The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) defeating Impact Tag Team champions The North (Ethan Page & Josh Alexander) at Turning Point
  • Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo defeating Jordynne Grace in a 30 Minute Ironman Match at Emergence Night 2.
  • Moose defeating ECIII at Bound For Glory

In addition, we had segments announcing updates on the Genesis and Hard To Kill 2021 cards:

  • Chris Bey has been added to the Hard To Kill X-Division title match, making it X-Division Champion Manik vs. Rohit Raju vs. Chris Bey.
  • Taya Valkyrie cut a great promo and made a challenge to Deonna Purrazzo for Hard To Kill.
  • We got a promo by Matthew Palmer, one of the independent wrestlers that worked as security last week who unfortunately angered Moose in the Willie Mack pull apart. Moose had said that none of these ‘indie wrestlers’ couldn’t hang with him for more than 3 minutes. Palmer accepted the challenge.

The participants and first-round matches to the Super X Cup were announced. The tournament takes place at Genesis on January 9th. Matches are Ace Austin vs. Suicide, Daivari vs. Cousin Jake, Crazzy Steve vs. Tre Lamar, and KC Navarro vs. Blake Christian.

We got a new Christmas-themed commercial from AEW’s Tony Khan and Tony Schiavone. Khan said he could stop Omega from appearing at the Hard to Kill event, but if Impact wanted Omega wrestling their guys, then he’s fine with it. Khan also invited Impact wrestlers to make an appearance on Dynamite. After Schiavone ran down the card for tomorrow’s Dynamite, Khan said he has been looking at Impact’s Tag Team contracts and that Omega better win at Hard To Kill.

Finally, we got a promo by Kenny Omega and Don Callis. Callis brought up a story of how Omega told him as a kid that he wanted to run the wrestling business one day. Omega said he was always meant to be the AEW World Champion, the only championship “worth a damn”. Callis compared Omega’s Impact arrival as a Christmas gift and that he was seven stars right out of the womb. Omega said he was often imitated but never duplicated.

Impact unveils Super X-Cup tournament field for Genesis

Impact Wrestling unveiled the full eight man field for the return of the Super X-Cup at January’s Genesis.

On one side of the bracket, Ace Austin will face Suicide while Daivari will go one-on-one with Cousin Jake. On the other side, Crazzy Steve will welcome the debuting Tre Lamar while KC Navarro will face Blake Christian in the other match.

Christian has never wrestled on an Impact show, but did compete for the X-Division title in December 2019 on a Warrior Wrestling show against then champion-Austin. This will be Navarro’s first match in Impact since 2019’s Turning Point when he was involved in a six-way for the PPW Title.

Other than an Xplosion win over Cody Deaner in November, Austin hasn’t been on TV since he and Sawyer Fulton were unsuccessful in winning the Tag Team Titles at October’s Bound For Glory.

Impact announced the Cup tournament would return after a near four year break at Genesis, their January Impact Plus show on Saturday, January 9th. An I Quit match between Moose and Willie Mack has also been announced.

X-Division title triple threat match set for Impact Hard to Kill

New Impact X Division Champion Manik will have not one, but two former champions as challengers in his first title defense at January’s Hard To Kill pay-per-view.

Announced Tuesday during the first of two yearly recap shows, a segment was shown where Chris Bey came out of Scott D’Amore’s office. Rohit Raju walked up and Bey told him that based on his DQ win over the champion in a non-title match on last week’s show, Raju’s rematch was now being made a triple threat match.

Manik (aka TJP) defeated Raju for the title at December’s Final Resolution event. The same three men did battle in October with Raju winning the title in a three way when Bey was the champion.

The January 16th show is headlined by AEW World Champion Kenny Omega teaming with Impact Tag Team Champions The Good Brothers against Impact World Champion Rich Swann and the Motor City Machine Guns.

The only other announced match is the finals of the Knockouts Tag Team Championship tournament with Tasha Steelz and Kiera Hogan going up against the winners of the Havok & Nevaeh vs. Jordynne Grace & Jazz semifinal.

Madison Rayne leaving Impact for career outside wrestling

Impact Wrestling color commentator Madison Rayne is done with the company and pro wrestling in general as she is taking a full-time job outside the industry.

Dave Meltzer noted that this was a possibility in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter with PW Insider confirming the news Friday. The 34-year-old has not confirmed the news herself on social media.

There is no news on who will replace Rayne in the commentary booth, but Matt Striker did fill in several weeks ago for an episode. Impact’s next original show will be on January 5th as they are airing year in review shows the next two weeks.

After being released from Ring of Honor in 2019, Rayne returned to Impact for the third time as an in-ring competitor and transitioned to the commentary booth alongside husband Josh Mathews earlier this year.

She began her career in the early 2000s with stops with Impact/TNA, SHIMMER, ROH, and even WWE along the way where she worked one match in the 2018 Mae Young Classic, losing to Mercedes Martinez.

Super X-Cup tournament returning at Impact Genesis

Impact Wrestling announced Thursday that the Super X-Cup tournament will return at their January 9th Genesis show on Impact Plus with participants and details to be revealed later.

This will be the fourth Super X-Cup in company history, a eight-man tournament featuring X Division wrestlers that dates back to 2003. In the past, they have featured international talent from around the world.

Chris Sabin won the inaugural tournament in 2003 during the TNA era, defeating Juventud Guerrera in the finals. They brought it back in 2005 with Samoa Joe defeating AJ Styles in the finals. It then took a 12 year absence before returning in 2017 as Dezmond Xavier defeated Taiji Ishimori in the finals in an era when Impact and Global Force Wrestling were doing co-promotion.

Impact announced last week that Genesis would return for the first time since 2018. As of now, the only other announced match is Moose vs. Willie Mack in an I Quit match.

Impact ratings down for second week of Kenny Omega angle

This Tuesday night’s Impact Wrestling on AXS TV averaged 177,000 viewers, down 19.9 percent from last week.

After finishing in the top 100 of the 18-49 cable charts last week, the rating in that demo dropped 50 percent to a 0.04. That placed Impact in the 143rd spot on this Tuesday’s chart.

Impact was up 6.6 percent in total viewership from its December 1 episode, which was prior to the angle on AEW Dynamite where Kenny Omega won the AEW World Championship and Don Callis promised that Omega would be appearing on Impact. This week’s Impact was down slightly from the 0.05 rating the show drew in the 18-49 demo on December 1.

Twitch viewership was down significantly from last week but still comfortably above normal levels for Impact. After peaking at over 50,000 viewers on Twitch last week, the peak for this Tuesday’s show was above 14,000 viewers.

This week’s Impact featured another appearance by Omega. The show ended with the announcement that Omega will reunite with Impact Tag Team Champions The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) to face Impact World Champion Rich Swann & The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) in the main event of Impact’s Hard to Kill pay-per-view on Saturday, January 16.

Impact is airing best of episodes over the next two weeks and returning with new content on Tuesday, January 5.

Kenny Omega to team with The Good Brothers at Impact Hard to Kill

AEW World Champion Kenny Omega will reunite with two of his former Bullet Club stablemates as he makes his Impact Wrestling in-ring debut next month.

It was announced at the end of tonight’s episode of Impact that Omega & Impact Tag Team Champions The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) will face Impact World Champion Rich Swann & The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) at Impact Wrestling’s Hard to Kill pay-per-view. The PPV is taking place on Saturday, January 16.

Throughout tonight’s Impact, Omega met with Anderson, hyping him up for his match against Sabin in the main event. Anderson proceeded to defeat Sabin after rolling him up, grabbing his tights. Omega and Don Callis, who were seen watching the match on a nearby bus, celebrated Anderson’s win.

The closing segment of the show saw Swann confront Anderson backstage about the finish. Gallows, who had been out injured, then returned and attacked Swann and The Motor City Machine Guns, who had come in to make the save.

It was here that Omega arrived, taking out Swann with a caution sign. Omega taunted Swann, telling Callis to show Swann the AEW World Championship title belt. Callis said it was the real World Champion’s belt. Omega then proposed the six-man tag team match for Hard to Kill and Callis made it official.

The finals of the Impact Knockouts Tag Team title tournament will also be held at Hard to Kill. Tasha Steelz & Kiera Hogan advanced to the finals tonight, defeating Rosemary & Taya Valkyrie. The winners of the Havok & Neaveh vs. Jordynne Grace & Jazz semifinal match will meet Steelz & Hogan in the finals.

First team set for Impact Knockouts Tag Team title tournament finals

The first team has booked their spot in Impact Wrestling’s Knockouts Tag Team title tournament finals.

On Tuesday’s episode of Impact, Tasha Steelz & Kiera Hogan defeated Taya Valkyrie & Rosemary to advance to the finals of the Knockouts Tag Team title tournament. Steelz & Hogan got the win after Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo and Kimber Lee interfered during the match and took out Rosemary. Valkyrie & Rosemary had defeated Purrazzo & Kimber Lee in the first round of the tournament. At Final Resolution this past Saturday, Purrazzo retained her Knockouts title against Rosemary.

Steelz & Hogan will face either Jordynne Grace & Jazz or Havok & Nevaeh in the finals of the tournament. The finals are being held at Impact’s Hard to Kill pay-per-view on Saturday, January 16.

In the first round of the tournament, Steelz & Hogan defeated The Sea Stars (Ashley Vox & Delmi Exo). Grace & Jazz and Havok & Nevaeh advanced to the semifinals with respective wins over Killer Kelly & Renee Michelle and Tenille Dashwood & Alisha Edwards.

Impact hasn’t announced when the Grace & Jazz vs. Havok & Nevaeah semifinal match will be airing. The next two weeks of Impact episodes will be holiday specials.

The team that wins the tournament will become the first Knockouts Tag Team Champions since the titles were deactivated in 2013.

First matches for January 5th Impact and Genesis announced

With Impact Wrestling doing “holiday specials” for the final two weeks of 2020, they gave their fans something to look forward to as they announced matches for both their January 2021 debut and for Genesis a few days later.

On the first new Impact on January 5th, Sami Callihan will renew his rivalry with Eddie Edwards. The two have been at odds again for several weeks with Callihan challenging Edwards Tuesday after Edwards’ wife Alisha lost to Tenille Dashwood.

Their feud dates back to 2018 when Callihan accidentally injured Edwards’ eye with an errant baseball bat shot, causing Edwards to suffer a broken nose and broken bones in his face.

Impact also announced that self-proclaimed TNA World Champion Moose will face Willie Mack in an I Quit match on Genesis, set for January 9th on Impact Plus. The two have been feuding since November and after a pull-apart brawl Tuesday, Mack challenged him with the match and stipulation.

AEW’s Tony Khan, Tony Schiavone appear in new Impact ‘paid ad’

AEW’s Tony Khan and Tony Schiavone once again appeared on this week’s Impact.

It was another vignette designed as a ‘paid ad’, with Khan taking shots at AXS and their programming. He said he wouldn’t slap an injunction on Kenny Omega appearing on Impact as he sees it as free advertisement. He said that he is going to see Kenny tomorrow, then he will start teaching Impact Executive Vice President Don Callis his lesson.

Schiavone, after taking another crack at AXS, ran down the card for AEW’s Wednesday card.

This was the second week in a row that Tony Khan and Tony Schiavone appeared on the show. They did another paid ad last week, with both Khan and Schiavone taking shots at Impact while advertising Dynamite.

“Thanks for the money, @TonyKhan” Callis responded on Twitter.

Matches and segments announced for Dynamite this week includes:

  • Hangman Page, Alex Reynolds, and John Silver vs. Private Party and Matt Hardy
  • Cody Rhodes vs. Angelico
  • The Acclaimed vs. SCU
  • Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, MJF, Samm Guevara, Jake Hager, Wardlow, Santana, and Ortiz vs. Best Friends, Top Flight, Varsity Blonds, and Brandon Cutler
  • Kenny Omega vs. Joey Janela
  • Sting will appear live

Impact Wrestling live results: AEW Champion Kenny Omega returns

Preview by Josh Nason

Tuesday’s Impact Wrestling has the promise to be another newsworthy edition of the show as AEW Champion Kenny Omega will be on the show, flanked by Don Callis.

It’s unknown what Omega is planning on doing or saying, but he did make a surprise appearance on Saturday’s Final Resolution to reacquaint with old friend Karl Anderson, giving him a pep talk before his match (and win) over Ethan Page.

This will be the first show the aforementioned Final Resolution where World Champion Rich Swann and Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo retained their titles while Rohit Raju lost his X Division title to Manik in an open challenge.

Also planned for tonight’s show: Anderson will face Chris Sabin; Manik (TJP) will face Chris Bey in a non-title match, Tasha Steelz and Kiera Hogan will face Rosemary and Taya in the first Knockouts Tag Team Championship tournament semifinal; and Tenille Dashwood will go one-on-one with Alisha.

**********

Opening video was a new recap of Kenny Omega and Don Callis’ promo from last week, where they explained their plans. Also, we got a recap of the three championship matches from Final Resolution, plus Karl Anderson defeating Ethan Page to deny him a title shot. A lot of teasing of what titles Omega could decide to chase.

Kaleb with a K opened the show to introduce Tenille Dashwood to the ring.

Tenille Dashwood (with Kaleb with a K) defeated Alisha Edwards (with Eddie Edwards)

Dashwood and Alisha had once considered becoming a tag team, but after Edwards had other things to worry about, mainly her husband, Dashwood was insulted that she wasn’t someone’s priority and turned on her. The Edwards household lost to the team of Dashwood and Kaleb at Final Resolution, so now Alisha has a chance at Dashwood in a singles match.

Match saw a fired up Edwards running wild early on, but it wasn’t long for Dashwood to cut her off with a draping neckbreaker and gain control of the match. Dashwood worked on her for a little bit, mostly making fun of her. Eventually, Alisha made a comeback, but Kaleb was there to save Dashwood from getting pinned.

Eddie Edwards tried to get rid of Kaleb, but instead got a shot with Kaleb’s tote bag. Alisha hit a dive on Kaleb, but it was the opening for Dashwood to hit Alisha with a kick and pin. Match was ok, one of Alisha’s better performances.

After the match, Sami Callihan cut a promo on the screen telling Eddie that he was tired of attacking from behind and challenged Edwards to a match next year, and he made it sounds like a career vs career match.

– Gia Miller Interviewed Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin. They talked about being done with two steps of their return, beating XXXL, and beating The North, and so now, they’re focused on the Good Brothers and they want their rematch clause as soon as Gallows returns, but for now, Sabin will take on Anderson.

– Karl Anderson was hanging out with Kenny Omega and Don Callis, and once again, they’re bullying Anderson that he needs to bring back the G1 Climax Karl Anderson.

– We saw Anderson approach Rich Swann and complain about what Sabin and Shelley had said. Swann stood up to Anderson and blamed Omega for Anderson’s behaviour, and so Anderson put down Swann telling him Omega was the real world champion. MCMG approached Swann and backed him up.

– Moose came down to the ring, looking dapper as always. He tolds us that Willie Mack won’t be able to compete on Impact for several weeks because HE hurt him. Moose said that even after that, people only talked about Rich Swann, who he respected, but Swann is injury prone, and so Swann should call Mack to see what it feels to be hurt.

Willie Mack came down to the ring, but security stopped him since he was not cleared to get physical. Mack said he wasn’t out here to wrestle, but he was mad that he was lost to a referee decision, and not to a pin. He challenged Moose to an I Quit Match at Genesis.

Mack rushed the ring and they tried to brawl, but security were on their feet and pulled them apart. Moose beat up some of the security for messing up his shirt while the rest took ack away.

Gia Miller interviewed Moose coming back. Moose said that he was tired of all these indie wrestlers trying to get opportunities as security guards and getting on his way and putting their hands on him. He threatened them all.

– Chris Bey approached Rohit Raju and made fun of him for losing the X Division title. Raju said that Bey also lost, but at least He had a rematch clause. Bey convinced Raju that if he could unmask Manik and reveal TJP, he’d have an argument to take the title off TJP and get it back, and the perfect chance was during Bey’s match with Manik later tonight.

– We got an AEW commercial with Tony Khan and Schiavone. Khan dropped some underhanded comments like he was funding Impact and that thanks to Callis, Omega was doing free publicity for free and that he got him his best ratings. Schiavone ran down tomorrow’s card, also dropping shade about how Daniels and Kaz were now on AEW and how they didn’t remember TNA. Khan vs Callis continues.

– We got a vignette for Eric Young, once again in prison, like his Bound for Glory promos. He talked about disease and what his true purpose was. He said he’d baptise Cody Deaner in the ‘holy water of change’.

Chris Bey (with Rohit Raju) defeated X Division Champion Manik by DQ in a non-title match.

The story of Manik winning the title comes from TJP not being able to challenge for the X Division title, and so he masked himself in his old gimmick, challenged for the title, and won the title at Final Resolution. TJP have a long history together while they both chased Raju’s title, and now they face each other in a non-title match.

Match saw Manik out-wrestle Bey early on, he kept countering and dodging his approaches. Manik started getting more aggressive as the minutes went on, but it was then that Bey managed to cut him off and start going after his mask. Bey had the upper hand only for a couple of minutes before he locked a submission and was countered by Manik.

Manik and Bey went back and forward the last couple of minutes, but after being tossed to the floor, Manik snuck under the ring to surprise him from the other side of the ring, hit a detonation kick and went for the finish.

Finish, and Chris Bey plan came at the end, when he tricked Raju into attacking him, winning by DQ and earning a proper X Division title shot. Good match overall and a good finish that will advance the story between the three. Chris Bey vs Manik sounds like a Genesis match.

– Impact+ Flashback Moment of the Week was FInal Resolution 2006, where Sting returned to TNA.

– Ethan Page and Josh Alexander met backstage. Page told  Alexander that everything was going to be ok, but Alexander said that it was time for Page to get his life together and go get help. He teased having someone to back him up.

Brian Myers walked up to Alexander and proposed to him that he should ditch Page and join him. Alexander told him off and challenged him to a match instead.

Kiera Hogan & Tasha Steelz defeated Rosemary & Taya Valkyrie in a Knockouts Tag Team Championship Tournament Semi Final match.

Hogan and Steelz defeated the Sea Stars to advance to this match, where they faced Rosemary and Taya, who defeated the team of Deonna Purrazzo and Kimbe Lee. These two teams have a small history together from a couple of months ago when Taya feuded with both Hogan and Steelz.

Rosemary and Taya started the match with the upper hand, given the size advantage, but after some aid from Steelz, Hogan cut off Rosemary and cut the ring in half on her. Rosemary wasn’t able to move away from her opponent’s corner for most of the duration of the heat segment, Hogan and Steelz kept her at bay with quick tags and quick moves.

It wasn’t until Steelz locked in a sleeper that Rosemary managed to get her off for a breather and catch her with a spear to finally tag in Taya.

Finish saw Deonna Purrazzo and Kimber Lee come down and attack Rosemary, distracting Taya so that Hogan could take her out and pin her. This wouldn’t have been so bad if the referee hadn’t looked like the only idiot that didn’t notice Purrazzo and Lee out there, that aside, this was a good match between the two teams that should have met in the finals.

Hogan and Steelz will wait for the winner of the Jordynne Grace & Jazz vs Havok and Nevaeh match.

– We got another vignette with Eric Young and Cody Deaner, the former telling the latter that professional wrestling has a disease and that Deaner never saw the parasite latch on to him, whatever that means.

Brian Myers defeated Josh Alexander by DQ

These two started going back and forward, but only a minute in, Ethan Page ran down and tried to get Alexander out of the match. Myers took him out against the ring post before returning to the ring and continuing the match.

They kept going back and forward, but Myers always had a small upper hand, but suddenly when Myers was coming close to finishing up Alexander, up rose Ethan Page’s alter ego — The Karate Man, who attacked and beat up Myers for the DQ. This match had a lot of potential, but it was unfortunately only used as an angle so Page could reveal his Karate Man gimmick.

Alexander left the ring and left Page alone in the ring. If this is the direction, it’s not that bad that Page may be leaving.

– We got a third vignette with Young and Deaner where the latter got baptized. I’m all in for a character change in Deaner in his new heel run.

– Acey Romero approached Tommy Dreamer about Larry D being set up. Dreamer told him to prove it. After that, Rhino and Cousin Jake talked about what Eric Young and Joe Doering had been doing, and so Dreamer told them both to go and take out EY and Doering before things got worse.

– Matthews and Rayne announced that the next two weeks of Impact will be Holiday Specials, but they return on January 5th with Sami Callihan vs Eddie Edwards.

Karl Anderson defeated Chris Sabin (with Alex Shelley)

A month ago, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin made the plan to reclaim the tag team titles, but before that, they had things to settle with XXXL, The North, and the Good Brothers, and after being done with steps one and two, the MCMGs have their sight set on Anderson and Gallows, but while the latter is out of commission, Sabin takes on Anderson tonight.

Good match between these two. While not a full fledged heel, Anderson did work a slightly more heel match, considerably more aggressive than his tag matches. He cut off Sabin early on and didn’t let go for a long while. Anderson focused on Sabin’s leg, but would switch to the head every so often when cutting Sabin’s comeback attempts. It wasn’t until Anderson accidentally collided with Sabin head-on-head, that Sabin had an opening to recover and pick up speed to turn things around.

They traded strikes until both men were down for the double count tease. They traded near falls before chasing their finishers, but at the end, it was Anderson that took the win when he rolled up Sabin and pulled the tights.

Omega and Callis celebrated on the bus. Rich Swann confronted Anderosn about cheating to win. Gallows returned and the Good Brothers attacked Swann and the MCMGs. Omega took out Rich Swann. Omega said he wanted Swann at Hard To Kill, and so Callis made it official. Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers vs Rich Swann & MCMGs to main event the Hard To Kill pay per view.

Manik vs. Bey, Dashwood vs. Alisha announced for Impact Wrestling

Impact Wrestling rounded out their lineup for Tuesday’s show, announcing two new matches.

One of those matches will feature new X Division Champion Manik (aka TJP) vs. former champion Chris Bey in a non-title match. Manik answered Rohit Raju’s open challenge Saturday at Final Destination to win the title while Bey was unsuccessful in defeating World Champion Rich Swann at the same event.

In the other match, Tenille Dashwood (w/ Kaleb with a K) will face Alisha (w/ Eddie Edwards). Dashwood and Kaleb defeated Alisha and Edwards in a tag match Saturday after Sami Callihan distracted Alisha and Edwards.

In other matches and segments announced for the show:

  • Following their interaction with Karl Anderson Saturday, AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and Don Callis will appear Tuesday, possibly announcing a match.
  • The aforementioned Anderson will be in action against Chris Sabin.
  • In the first semifinal of the Knockouts Tag Team Title tournament, Tasha Steelz and Kiera Hogan will face Rosemary and Taya Valkyrie.
