ROH TV results: Jay Briscoe vs. Mark Briscoe Fight on the Farm

Location: Baltimore, Maryland and Sandy Fork, Delaware

The Big Takeaway —

Jonathan Gresham continued his domination of the Pure division by retaining his title against Fred Yehi. In the main event, the Briscoe brothers fought out their differences on their family farm.

**********

Quinn McKay welcomed us to the broadcast and ran down the card. Tonight’s episode features Jonathan Gresham defending his ROH Pure Championship against Fred Yehi. Also, The Briscoe brothers will face off in the “Fight on the Farm.”

McKay recapped last week’s episode and officially announced that Bandido will challenge for Rush’s ROH World Championship at Sunday’s Best in the World pay-per-view.

McKay also announced that Mike Bennett will challenge for the Pure Championship at the PPV. But Jonathan Gresham and Fred Yehi will first have to battle it out for the title on tonight’s episode.

**********

ROH Pure Champion Jonathan Gresham defeated Fred Yehi to retain his title (12:16)

Mike Bennett was on commentary for this match.

Yehi seemed to overwhelm Gresham in the beginning with his aggressiveness. Both men had an arm drag contest that spilled to the outside and continued on the arena floor, but it led to a stalemate. This led into a commercial break.

Back from the break and Yehi continued to frustrate Gresham with his aggressiveness. The match got really grimy at this point, with Yehi rubbing his wristband in Gresham’s face. The bout also picked up some speed, with multiple moves being countered and both guys duking it out at high speed.

Yehi’s frustration began to get the best of him, allowing Gresham to capitalize on his mistakes. Yehi missed a few key stomps, which allowed Gresham to pick his ankle and roll him into a schoolboy pin for a three count.

Gresham held the Pure title in Yehi’s face after the match, teasing a bit of a more heel-like side.

Gresham’s post-match interview featured him telling Yehi to go back to wrestling school, and telling Mike Bennett that he doesn’t have a lick of respect for him.

Fight on the Farm: Jay Briscoe vs. Mark Briscoe

Both brothers started out in a ring that stands in a warehouse on their farm. Papa Briscoe seemed to be the referee for this fight.

Mark went for a dive onto Jay on the outside but was clocked with a frying pan instead. Jay then swung a shovel at Mark, but Mark moved out of the way. Papa informed them to get back in the ring, to which they did.

Mark went to the top rope and was looking for a frog splash, but Jay shoved him off the top and he went crashing into a table.

The fight took itself out of the warehouse at this point, with both guys kicking and punching each other while walking. Jay smacked Mark with a giant metal water bowl and then set up a plank of wood on the bed of his truck. Jay was looking to put Mark through this, but Mark low blowed Jay and put him through it instead.

The brothers then climbed to the top of a RV. They traded a few forearms before Jay threw Mark off the RV onto a tarped structure. Jay climbed down and tossed Mark in the bed of his truck and commanded that the cameraman ride with him.

Jay had some pop music playing in the truck, which only added to the humor. Jay drove to the other side of the farm where he said he was going to compost his brother.

Mark attacked Jay the second he got out of the truck, then clocked him with a real estate sign. Mark then set Jay on a table beneath a roofed structure before climbing the structure and hitting a splash onto his brother through the table.

Papa Briscoe helped both brothers up and walked them back to the ring. Both Briscoes eventually made it back to their feet and started slugging it out, all while Papa repeatedly screamed “You good yet?” multiple times. This was really stiff and hard hitting.

Eventually, Mark clotheslined Jay and it sent both brothers crashing to the mat. Papa Briscoe asked them one more time if they were “good yet,” to which both brothers replied yes.

Final Thoughts —

This was a very fun episode of ROH TV leading into the Best in the World PPV, which is taking place this Sunday.

Jonathan Gresham and Fred Yehi had a fun match that I think the company will revisit in the future. While being a good match, I think they definitely left some stuff out for a potential bigger rematch down the line. I hope Yehi is a mainstay in the Pure division — he’s really entertaining.

The Fight on the Farm was just a load of fun. I know that cinematic matches are quite controversial in the wrestling world, but I personally enjoy the hell out of them. While I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Matt Taven/Vincent cinematic match back at the 19th Anniversary PPV, this was really fun and had some great spots involved. Adding Papa Briscoe to the equation only made for a more enjoyable time.

In recent weeks I’ve introduced a scale in order to let you know if the current week of TV is worth your while. The scale is as follows:

  • Must-Watch TV
  • Go Out Of Your Way
  • Recommended Viewing
  • Watch YouTube Clips
  • Avoid At All Costs

This week’s episode of ROH TV is: Go Out Of Your Way

Two matches announced for ROH Best in the World Hour One

Two matches will be taking place as part of ROH Best in the World Hour One.

At 7 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday, July 11, Best in the World Hour One will stream live for free on platforms including HonorClub, YouTube, and pay-per-view channels carrying Best in the World. Best in the World will then begin on HonorClub and PPV starting at 8 p.m. Eastern.

PCO & Danhausen vs. The Bouncers (Beer City Bruiser & Brawler Milonas) and Demonic Flamita vs. Rey Horus are the two matches that have been announced for Best in the World Hour One.

Flamita and Horus were stablemates in MexiSquad prior to Flamita turning heel. Flamita defeated Horus when they faced off in a Survival of the Fittest tournament first round match on ROH TV last month. In the six-way Survival of the Fittest finals, Bandido won despite being attacked by Flamita and put through a table after eliminating him. Horus came out to make the save for Bandido.

Bandido will challenge for Rush’s ROH World Championship in the main event of Best in the World. The PPV is taking place at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore, Maryland and will feature ROH’s first live crowd since February 2020. Here’s the updated card for the event:

  • ROH World Champion Rush defends against Bandido
  • ROH Television Champion Tony Deppen defends against Dragon Lee
  • ROH Pure Champion Jonathan Gresham defends against Mike Bennett
  • Brody King vs. Jay Lethal
  • EC3 vs. Flip Gordon

  • PCO & Danhausen vs. The Bouncers (Beer City Bruiser & Brawler Milonas) (Best in the World Hour One)

ROH Women’s Division Wednesday results: Alex Gracia vs. Gia Scott

This week’s show featured Alex Gracia returning to WDW to face a debuting Gia Scott while Maria Kanellis Bennett gave out another Ticket To Gold.

Alex Gracia defeated Gia Scott (8:55)

Scott had a good promo before the match talking about her upbringing and how she overcame everything life has thrown at her.

The commentary team introduced referee Becky Phillips. She’s been in the ring a few times, but had never been introduced. I’m glad to see the female referee trend make its way to ROH. They also put over the sheer height difference between Gracia and Scott early as Scott had an eight-inch height advantage.

Scott played mind games with Gracia and overpowered her in the early going, but Gracia was eventually able to take Scott to the ground with an armdrag. Gracia had a good series of offensive moves that had Scott begging for mercy in the corner, which was a trap obviously.

Scott took the opportunity and took control once again, raining down constant shots all over Gracia. Gracia tried to fire up and regain momentum multiple times, but failed until she was able to hit a series of stiff clotheslines that sent Scott to the mat.

Gracia went to the top rope and hit her Pink Hypnosis senton onto a standing Scott, but it wasn’t enough for a three count. Gracia then hit her Beautiful Nightmare neckbreaker to get the pin and win.

Ticket To Gold: Alex Gracia

Maria Kanellis Bennett welcomed Gracia to the call and noted that she was super impressed with her match. Bennett then offered her a Ticket To Gold which she accepted. Gracia revealed that she was scheduled to compete in the original ROH women’s tournament before the pandemic.

Final Thoughts:

Gracia and Scott had a fun match. I have never seen Scott before and she was quite impressive. I could definitely see her being a mainstay in the division since she’s signed to the Dojo.

Gracia is someone I have seen on AEW Dark a handful of times and she’s quite good as well. Getting to see her on a stage where she isn’t just being jobbed out to main talent is eye-opening as well. She can go when given a proper amount of time.

Six-Man Tag Team title match added to ROH Best in the World

A new title match has been announced for ROH Best in the World.

ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions Shane Taylor Promotions (Shane Taylor, Moses & Kaun) will put their titles on the line against Dalton Castle, Eli Isom & Dak Draper at Best in the World. The pay-per-view is taking place at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore, Maryland on Sunday, July 11.

In storyline, the Six-Man Tag Team title match was made without Castle telling Isom and Draper about it first. Castle said Isom and Draper may not see it, but they know that the three of them have something powerful here.

Isom and Draper went to a 15-minute time limit draw against each other on ROH TV this April. They each wanted five more minutes added to the match, but Castle made his way out before it could be restarted. Castle said he was blown away by their match and wasn’t there to fight them. Castle said he’s been watching Isom and Draper since they came to ROH and has seen the growth that they’ve shown.

Castle told Isom and Draper that things have gotten a little dull around here. Castle said he wants to spice things up — and Isom and Draper can help him with that. Castle looked at Draper and said he sees so much inside of him that he likes. Castle then looked at Isom and said he sees so much that he doesn’t like. Castle kicked Isom in the groin but then did the same thing to Draper.

Isom and Draper then faced off in the first round of ROH’s Survival of the Fittest tournament last month. Castle came out to ringside during the match and watched on. Castle leaving near the end of the match distracted Draper and caused him to lose.

Shane Taylor Promotions have held the ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles since winning them from Bandido, Flamita & Rey Horus this February.

Best in the World will feature ROH’s first live crowd since February 2020. Here’s the updated card for the PPV:

  • ROH World Champion Rush defends against Bandido
  • ROH Television Champion Tony Deppen defends against Dragon Lee
  • ROH Pure Champion Jonathan Gresham defends against Mike Bennett
  • Brody King vs. Jay Lethal
  • EC3 vs. Flip Gordon
  • Last Man Standing match: Josh Woods vs. Silas Young
  • ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions Shane Taylor Promotions defend against Dalton Castle, Eli Isom & Dak Draper

Alex Gracia announced for ROH Women’s title tournament

After picking up a win on Women’s Division Wednesday, Alex Gracia has been confirmed for ROH’s Women’s World Championship tournament.

Gracia defeated Gia Scott on this week’s Women’s Division Wednesday. Gracia was presented with a Ticket to Gold by Maria Kanellis-Bennett at the end of the show, granting her a spot in the tournament. The tournament is taking place this summer.

This was the second match that Gracia has had for ROH. She lost to Willow Nightingale on Women’s Division Wednesday earlier this month.

Gracia previously regularly appeared on AEW Dark and has also wrestled for the NWA and Stardom.

Gracia had also been announced for the ROH Women’s World Championship tournament when it was originally supposed to take place last year. The tournament was delayed following the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eleven entrants have now been confirmed for the Women’s World Championship tournament. Vita VonStarr had previously been set to take part in it, but she was removed after getting involved in her The Righteous stablemate Dutch’s match against Matt Taven on the latest episode of ROH TV. In storyline, VonStarr’s place in the tournament was contingent on her not getting involved in any men’s matches before the tournament starts.

The winner of the tournament will become the first-ever ROH Women’s World Champion. The title is replacing the former Women of Honor World Championship. Here’s the updated list of entrants:

  • Rok-C
  • Angelina Love (getting a first-round bye)
  • Miranda Alize
  • Trish Adora
  • Allysin Kay
  • Mazzerati
  • Willow Nightingale
  • Nicole Savoy
  • Mandy Leon
  • Max The Impaler
  • Alex Gracia

Mike Bennett to challenge for Pure title at ROH Best in the World

Image: ROH

Mike Bennett is getting a Pure Championship shot at ROH’s next pay-per-view.

On this week’s edition of ROH Week By Week, it was announced that Bennett will challenge for the ROH Pure Championship at Best in the World on Sunday, July 11. Jonathan Gresham is the current Pure Champion. He’s defending his title against Fred Yehi on the ROH TV episode that premieres this weekend.

Bennett won a Pure Rules gauntlet match that aired on ROH’s YouTube channel last week. Bennett eliminated PJ Black, Joe Keys, and The World Famous CB (Cheeseburger) during the match. It was the first Pure Rules match that Bennett has ever wrestled in.

Bennett said after the gauntlet match that he’s coming after the Pure Championship. Bennett said he respects Gresham, but Gresham told Bennett that he doesn’t belong in the Pure division.

Gresham became Pure Champion by winning a tournament for the title in 2020. After having been unified with the ROH World Championship in 2006, the Pure title was reintroduced in last year’s tournament.

Best in the World is taking place at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. It will be the first ROH show with fans in attendance since February 2020. Here’s the updated card for the PPV:

  • ROH World Champion Rush defends against Bandido
  • ROH Television Champion Tony Deppen defends against Dragon Lee
  • ROH Pure Champion Jonathan Gresham defends against Mike Bennett
  • Brody King vs. Jay Lethal
  • EC3 vs. Flip Gordon
  • Last Man Standing match: Josh Woods vs. Silas Young

ROH TV results: Survival of the Fittest finals

This week’s episode of ROH TV was must watch, specifically for the Survival of the Fittest match.

Matt Taven and Dutch went to a no contest (7:47)

Taven sprinted down the entrance way and started taking it to the unphased Dutch almost immediately. Dutch tossed Taven across the ring very easily and Taven seemed overwhelmed.

Taven rolled out of the ring and was immediately attacked by Vita VonStarr, but it was put to a stop quickly after Maria Kanellis Bennett came down to the ring. She ordered VonStarr to the back like she was an animal which came off very awkwardly.

Taven and Dutch continued battling in the ring with Taven finally getting an upper hand, punctuated by a suicide dive. Taven followed it up with his signature frog splash, but Dutch powered out at one which the commentary team put over heavily.

Taven then hit his climax DDT, but before he could attempt a pin, Vincent appeared at ringside. Taven was distracted and followed him out to ringside. Bateman then blindsided Taven and beat him down, leading to referee Todd Sinclair calling for the bell and ruling it a no contest.

After the match, Vincent said he wouldn’t be having a match with Taven now, but gave him a firm maybe for a later date.

Bandido won the Survival of the Fittest six-way elimination tournament final (23:51)

Participants were Bandido, Eli Isom, Brian Johnson, Chris Dickinson, Flamita, and Rhett Titus. The match was also contested under lucha rules.

Bandido and Flamita started off which was appropriate considering their ongoing issues. Both quickly spilled to the outside and fought, allowing Dickinson and Titus to wrestle for a bit.

Isom was eventually able to get in the ring with Titus and showed out with some great power moves. Bandido and Flamita eventually made it to the top rope where Bandido hit a crazy moonsault press onto the rest of the competitors at ringside.

Bandido and Flamita continued to be the focus of the match once they got back in the ring. Johnson tried to get involved, but instead ate a Flamita superkick to the back of the head into the turnbuckle. Bandido took advantage of his former Mexisquad stablemate being distracted and rolled him up to eliminate him from the match.

After being eliminated, Flamita took his frustrations out and put Bandido through a table. Rey Horus came down and waved Flamita out of the match, preventing him from causing more damage.

Isom and Johnson were the next legal men up. Isom is a very likeable babyface. Johnson mostly dominated this exchange and was able to hit his Process draping DDT, but Isom rolled out of the ring. Dickinson was up next, but didn’t last very long and Titus came in. Titus hit a great belly-to-belly suplex on Johnson, followed by a few dropkicks and a pair of big boots. Titus then hit a top rope knee drop to eliminate Johnson.

Dickinson came in and went to work on Titus’ knee, immediately locking in a straight arm kneebar. Titus tapped almost immediately and it was good to see Dickinson get a big elimination.

That left Dickinson, Bandido and Isom. Bandido crawled his way back into the ring and Dickinson immediately focused on the arm of Bandido and cinched in an armbar. Isom reached up and put Bandido’s foot on the ropes, breaking the hold. Isom got in the ring and traded stiff forearms with Dickinson for a good minute. Isom eventually went to the apron but Dickinson applied a rear naked choke. Bandido came out of nowhere and hit his Blackjack 21-Plex on Dickinson to eliminate him, leaving he and Isom.

Isom applied a modified Rings Of Saturn and Bandido almost submitted but got his foot on the ropes to break the hold. Bandido hit a X-Knee, followed by a 21-Plex attempt but his arms gave out. Isom wasted zero time and planted Bandido with a side slam for a very good near fall.

Bandido and Isom kept going at it with a really good exchange. Isom tried to hit the Promise (brainbuster) but failed. Bandido went to the top rope and jumped, but Isom caught him in mid-air and hit a wonderful looking backbreaker for another great near fall.

Isom tried to hit his signature brainbuster again, but Bandido twisted him up into a headscissors/armbar combination submission. Isom hesitated for about 20 seconds before eventually submitting.

Bandido will now face ROH World Champion Rush at the Best in the World PPV on July 11th.

Final Thoughts:

The SOTF match could be my new favorite ROH match this year. All six guys got a chance to shine in their own ways and I was sold on at least four near falls in this match. Eli Isom is a made man coming out of this match and it’s quite obvious ROH thinks very highly of him. His story is really easy to get behind and he’s such a likeable babyface.

Bandido was the right choice to win, though. He and Rush is a great main event and should move some PPV buys. When the participants for SOTF were announced, I suggested that Bandido should lose to Rush and join La Faccion Ignorable.

On the Taven-Vincent stuff? Ugh. This is just so overblown at this point. This feud has been going on since November 2019 and I’m just ready for both guys to move on. I still believe the feud should have ended at the 19th Anniversary PPV.

Next Week:

  • Pure Champion Jonathan Gresham vs. Fred Yehi title match
  • Mark Briscoe vs. Jay Briscoe “Fight On The Farm

Rush vs. Bandido ROH World title match set for Best in the World

The following contains spoilers for this weekend’s ROH TV.

Ring of Honor World Champion Rush will defend the title against Bandido in the main event of the Best in the World pay-per-view on July 11th.

ROH stated that this year’s Survival of the Fittest participants were chosen because they’ve all never held the ROH World Championship and aren’t currently in the World title rankings. ROH Women’s Division Wednesday results: Love vs. Recks

The Big Takeaway: Allie Recks made her Ring Of Honor debut against Angelina Love, and another Ticket To Gold was given out.

Lenny Leonard welcomed us to the show. Leonard revealed that the Women’s Division Wednesday’s match taking place this week is Angelina Love vs Allie Recks. Leonard also revealed that Love is the one who recommended Recks to the ROH Board Of Directors.

A brief history on Allie Recks: She’s worked in Shine, CZW, American Combat Wrestling, and Pennsylvania Premiere Wrestling. She is also the current Women’s Champion for American Combat Wrestling.

Angelina Love (with Mandy Leon) defeated Allie Recks (9:51)

Love did her usual taunting and wearing down her opponent style in this match. I’ll note that Recks is a great seller, but she didn’t get much offense until the tail end of the match.

I wouldn’t say this was a squash match necessarily, but I would have appreciated Recks getting more offense. Recks was able to hit her codebreaker finisher, The Recks Effect, at one point and it was a great near fall. I’ll also compliment Recks on her great basement dropkick.

After Love kicked out of the Recks Effect, Recks tried to capitalize with a crossbody but missed. Love followed up on her opponent’s missed opportunity with a Botox Injection kick for the win.

After the match, Recks grabbed a mic and thanked Love for the opportunity. Love made fun of Recks but said she’d grant her one more opportunity.

Amy Rose came out in gear but said she wasn’t going to be the one wrestling Recks. Max The Impaler came out afterward and made a beeline for the ring. The Allure went to the commentary desk and kicked Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman out of the building.

Max The Impaler (w/ Amy Rose) defeated Allie Recks (3:58)

This “match” was simply to put Max The Impaler over. They chunked Recks around the ring for almost four minutes like it was nothing.

The Allure and Maria Kanellis Bennett were arguing over commentary the whole match about their personal issues. It took me out of the match quite honestly.

Recks’ fatigue from her previous match obviously played a big factor here, as she didn’t get a single offensive maneuver in this match. Max won the match with their Impaler backbreaker.

************

Max The Impaler was given a ticket to gold via Zoom after their match. Maria Kanellis Bennett tried to get a few words out of them, but they just screamed into the camera.

*************

Final Thoughts: This wasn’t my favorite episode of Women’s Division Wednesday to say the least. I’m completely fine with the push of Angelina Love, after all, she is one of the few recognizable names in the division currently. Recks getting squashed twice left a bad taste in my mouth. Recks seems to be a good wrestler, and I wanted her to get some more action in both of her matches. Angelina Love’s match against Mazzerati a few weeks back was much more competitive.

Max The Impaler getting their Ticket To Gold is long overdue, but well deserved. I’m still not feeling this partnership with Amy Rose. In my opinion, Rose should have a manager, not be a manager.

Max The Impaler announced for ROH Women’s title tournament

Image: ROH

Max The Impaler is the latest addition to the field for ROH’s Women’s World Championship tournament.

It was announced on this week’s ROH Women’s Division Wednesday episode that Max The Impaler will be taking part in this summer’s Women’s title tournament. Max was given a spot in the tournament following her win against Allie Recks on Women’s Division Wednesday.

Recks first lost a match against Angelina Love on this week’s Women’s Division Wednesday. There was then an angle where Recks asked Love for another match. Recks said she grew up watching Love wrestle and dominating women’s divisions. Recks asked Love for another match and Love accepted — but Love then revealed that the match would be against Max The Impaler.

Max The Impaler is being managed by Amy Rose in ROH. The alliance between Max and Rose was revealed when Max attacked Miranda Alize, Sumie Sakai, Trish Adora, Mazzerati, and ROH’s timekeeper on Women’s Division Wednesday earlier this month.

Max The Impaler has wrestled on ROH Women’s Division Wednesday three times. They’ve defeated Hyan and Recks in singles matches. On the Women’s Division Wednesday premiere episode this April, Max made their ROH debut and teamed with Rok-C as they went to a 15-minute time limit draw against Hyan & Laynie Luck.

The ROH Women’s World Championship is a new title that’s replacing the former Women of Honor World Championship. Here’s the updated list of entrants for the title tournament:

  • Rok-C
  • Angelina Love
  • Miranda Alize
  • Trish Adora
  • Allysin Kay
  • Mazzerati
  • Willow Nightingale
  • Vita VonStarr
  • Nicole Savoy
  • Mandy Leon
  • Max The Impaler

Love will be getting a first-round bye in the tournament.

ROH sets date for Gresham vs. Yehi Pure title match

Image: ROH

ROH has set the date for Jonathan Gresham’s next Pure Championship defense.

On the latest edition of ROH Week By Week, it was announced that Gresham will defend his Pure Championship against Fred Yehi on the ROH TV episode that premieres the weekend of Saturday, July 3. ROH had announced earlier this month that Yehi would be getting a Pure title shot.

Yehi has won three straight matches in ROH. He won a Pure Rules gauntlet match in March and has since defeated Rocky Romero and The World Famous CB (Cheeseburger) in Pure Rules matches.

Gresham won a tournament last year to become the first ROH Pure Champion since 2006. The title had been unified with the ROH World Championship in 2006 before being brought back last year.

Gresham’s most recent Pure title defense was against his The Foundation stablemate Jay Lethal on the 500th episode of ROH TV this April.

The July 3 edition of ROH TV will also feature Jay Briscoe vs. Mark Briscoe in the “Fight on the Farm.” The match is being held at The Briscoes’ family farm in Sandy Fork, Delaware.

TV title match official for ROH Best in the World

A new match has been made official for next month’s ROH Best in the World pay-per-view.

It was announced today that Tony Deppen will defend his ROH Television Championship against Dragon Lee at Best in the World. Deppen is part of ROH’s Violence Unlimited stable and Lee is part of La Faccion Ingobernable.

The TV title match was confirmed for Best in the World after Deppen retained the title against Tracy Williams and Lee in a triple threat match on the latest episode of ROH TV. Deppen rolled up Williams to get the win after Lee gave Williams a low blow. Lee could have broken up the pin but chose not to.

After the triple threat TV title match, Lee’s La Faccion Ingobernable stablemate Kenny King said that Lee’s strategy was just not to get pinned — even if that meant that he didn’t win. King said that, with Williams being pinned, Lee is now the number one contender to the TV title. King said Deppen will defend the TV title against Lee at Best in the World. Lee threatened that La Faccion Ingobernable would come to Deppen’s house and take the title if he didn’t.

Lee was ROH TV Champion going into the promotion’s 19th Anniversary PPV this March, but Lee suffered a ruptured eardrum and had to miss the tapings for the event. King instead defended the TV title on Lee’s behalf and lost it to Williams. Deppen defeated Williams on ROH TV last month to win the TV title.

When Lee was ROH TV Champion, he retained the title against Deppen at Final Battle last December. Deppen won a four corner survival match earlier in the night to get that title shot.

Best in the World is taking place at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore, Maryland on Sunday, July 11. It will be the first ROH event with fans in attendance since February 2020. Here’s the updated card for the PPV:

  • ROH Television Champion Tony Deppen defends against Dragon Lee
  • Brody King vs. Jay Lethal
  • EC3 vs. Flip Gordon
  • Last Man Standing match: Josh Woods vs. Silas Young

ROH TV results: Deppen vs. Williams vs. Lee TV title match

Location: Baltimore, Maryland

The Big Takeaway —

The Survival of the Fittest tournament continued with Bandido advancing to the six-way elimination match finals, while Tony Deppen made his first defense of the Television title.

**********

Quinn McKay joined us in the studio. McKay recapped the Survival of the Fittest tournament to date and promoted the Bandido vs. Bateman match that’s taking place on this episode.

McKay also announced that Tony Deppen will defend his ROH Television Championship against Dragon Lee and Tracy Williams in a triple threat match in this week’s main event. McKay made sure it was recognized that Lee never lost the TV title, but rather that his fellow La Faccion Ingobernable stablemate Kenny King lost it for him at the 19th Anniversary PPV.

**********

Survival of the Fittest first-round match: Bandido defeated Bateman (13:23)

Bateman had a really good promo beforehand about the sacrifices he’s made to get to where he’s at today.

Bateman is a really smart wrestler, and this match proved that. Bandido tried to accelerate the match to his pace in the early stages, but Bateman always seemed to have him scouted.

At around the three-minute mark, Bateman cleaned Bandido’s clock with a forearm that genuinely seemed to catch him off guard. Bateman hits so hard and so stiff and is a top tier striker in North America in my opinion.

The story here was that Bandido kept trying to turn the jets on, but Bateman would stop him almost every time. But Bandido eventually found a way to start his own engine and get the big moves in — including a phenomenal top rope twisting dive. Bandido even picked up Bateman and hit a great Michinoku Driver at one point.

The finish saw Bateman leaning over the middle rope and trying to catch his breath when Bandido sprung off his back and hit a catapult German suplex for the win.

After the match, Vincent appeared at ringside with Dutch and Vita VonStarr. Vincent said that his journey of self-clarity made him realize his one goal is the ROH World Championship. Vincent shamed Bateman for failing him, and then Bateman offered himself for sacrifice. VonStarr and Dutch attacked Bateman, who was willing to take the beatdown.

**********

Triple threat match: Tony Deppen defeated Tracy Williams and Dragon Lee to retain the ROH Television Championship (11:27)

This was a really, really fun match. Dragon Lee tried to stay out of the action early and let Williams and Deppen wear themselves down, but both guys recognized Lee’s gameplan.

All three guys have different styles, but they all have one thing in common: they all hit really hard. Williams and Lee had a great 20-second exchange of straight forearms in the middle portion of the match.

Deppen has really good intensity attached to his style of wrestling and it makes it to where his matches don’t have a dull moment. There was a really good spot in the latter half of the match where Lee started a German suplex chain that saw all three men hit a few suplexes.

The final sequence saw Lee hit a low blow on Williams, but Deppen stole the pinfall to retain the TV title. Lee had a chance to break it up but chose not to.

After the match, The Foundation, Violence Unlimited, and La Faccion Ingobernable all made their way out. Kenny King claimed that the strategy for Dragon Lee was simply to not be pinned, allowing him to slide into the number one contenders spot. King challenged Deppen to defend the TV title against Lee at next month’s Best in the World pay-per-view.

Final Thoughts —

Two great matches made for a very easy to digest episode of ROH TV. Bateman is extremely underrated in the ring in my opinion. He had a great showing here. Bandido was the right man to win. I’m iffy about the post-match antics, but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt for now.

Deppen vs. Williams vs. Lee was really fun. I can’t put into words just how great Dragon Lee is, and the fact that he’s only 26 years old makes it almost unbelievable. I really didn’t like the finish of this match at first, but after letting it simmer for a minute I can understand the want of having Deppen vs. Lee in front of a crowd at Best in the World.

In closing, this week’s episode of ROH TV is: Recommended Viewing.

ROH announces Jay Briscoe vs. Mark Briscoe ‘Fight on the Farm’

Jay Briscoe and Mark Briscoe are set for another match against each other — but this time it will take place on their family farm.

ROH has announced that Jay Briscoe vs. Mark Briscoe in the “Fight on the Farm” will air on the ROH TV episode that premieres the weekend of Saturday, July 3. In storyline, The Briscoes’ father Papa Briscoe is again trying to get Jay and Mark to settle their differences by facing each other.

Mark defeated Jay by countout when they faced off in the main event of ROH TV’s 500th episode this April. Jay & Mark then teamed up against EC3 & Flip Gordon on ROH TV in May, but EC3 & Gordon won when Gordon hit Mark with Jay’s chain.

A video aired on the latest ROH TV episode with Jay and Mark in front of the ring at their farm. Jay blamed Mark for their loss against EC3 & Gordon. Papa Briscoe then walked up and said Jay and Mark still haven’t gotten things right between them. Papa Briscoe said they’ll get things right old-school style with a Fight on the Farm.
