CMLL stars set to attend Dodgers Mexican Heritage Night

Two CMLL stars are heading to an upcoming Dodgers game to celebrate Mexican Heritage Night.

The MLB team announced on Saturday that Mascara Dorada and Xelhua will be in attendance on May 26 to celebrate the holiday. In addition, they will also be interviewed as part of the festivities. The Dodgers will be playing the Colorado Rockies that night.

Earlier this month, the promotion collaborated with the NFL for the football league’s upcoming Mexico City game, with Mascara Dorada and Soberano Jr. representing the San Francisco 49ers and the Minnesota Vikings.

CMLL has gotten a lot of attention

CMLL has been on a hot streak in the last year, frequently selling out shows across Mexico with Mistico and Dorada as its top stars. Earlier this year, it was announced that their Viernes Espectacular events would be airing on Fox Sports Mexico, further building their momentum. They also got attention from the Korean supergroup BTS, who attended a show in Arena Mexico earlier this month.

Both Dorada and Xelhua have made appearances for AEW & ROH in the past, with Dorada having a dual contract with AEW.

Three title matches part of ROH Supercard of Honor additions

AEW National Champion Mark Davis will continue his busy schedule at Friday’s Ring of Honor Supercard of Honor streaming special — one of three championship matches added Thursday.

Davis will defend the title against CMLL’s Xelhua who will be making his fifth ROH appearance and his first since late-January in a trios bout. This will be the first time they have shared the ring.

Davis defeated Jack Perry for the title last Saturday at AEW Fairway to Hell and was added to Team Ricochet for the Stadium Stampede match taking place at next Sunday’s AEW Double or Nothing. He’s had a slew of matches in ROH since 2023 and has won his last six singles matches there.

Also added to the show is an ROH Pure title defense as Lee Moriarty puts the title up against Ace Austin who is coming off a loss to Will Ospreay Wednesday. Moriarty has held the title for 658 days with 15 successful title defenses.

After finally breaking through and defeating Nick Wayne for the ROH TV title Thursday, AR Fox will put the title on the line against Lio Rush who called his shot directly afterward.

In another development, Zayda Steel defeated Hyan to earn the final spot in the Survival of the Fittest match for Athena’s ROH Women’s World title.

As of this writing, the Zero Hour pre-show matches have yet to be announced.

CMLL reveals Claudio Castagnoli World title challenger

Claudio Castagnoli is heading down to Mexico City for a title defense this Friday — and we now know who his challenger will be.

Last night, CMLL shared a promo with Castagnoli issuing an open challenge for his CMLL World Heavyweight Championship. He wanted “a young luchador who thinks they have what it takes” to step up and answer the call. The 21-year-old Xelhua has now responded and will be facing off against Castagnoli at Arena Mexico on Friday (January 30).

Castagnoli was crowned the CMLL World Heavyweight Champion by defeating Gran Guerrero for the belt on November 28. His two title defenses since then have been split across Mexico and the United States, defeating Ultimo Guerrero and Roderick Strong. The latter of those headlined this past Saturday’s episode of AEW Collision.

Xelhua, an up-and-coming technical star, also recently got an ROH Pure Championship shot but came up short against Lee Moriarty when they faced off in Mexico.
