World Heavyweight title match set for WWE Money in the Bank

Two new matches have been made official for Money in the Bank on July 1 in London.

Seth Rollins will put the World Heavyweight title on the line against Finn Balor. Another match will have Cody Rhodes take on Dominik Mysterio.

On Raw Monday, Balor confronted Rollins, blaming him for having to vacate the Universal title back in 2016 and having to take a year off due to injury. He issued the challenge for London. Rollins accepted, telling Balor that while the bitter shell of a former champion Balor didn’t have any chance against him, the Balor that beat him with one arm in 2016 did.

After Rhea Ripley was given the new Women’s World Heavyweight title at the start of Monday’s raw, Mysterio came out to celebrate with Ripley, putting the championship around her waist. Rhodes came out and confronted Mysterio after he sucker punched Rhodes last week. Rhodes issued the challenge to Mysterio, with Ripley accepting on Mysterio’s behalf. After Rhodes’ opponent for the night The Miz came in to attack Rhodes, Mysterio sucker punched Rhodes again before bailing.

Santos Escobar defeated Mustafa Ali to qualify for the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match, while Butch used a distraction from NXT’s Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams to score a victory over Baron Corbin to earn his spot in the bout.

Five men and five women have now qualified for the ladder matches set for Saturday, July 1 at the O2 Arena in London. Presumably one spot remains in each match. Matt Riddle will face Damian Priest on Monday’s Raw to determine the final men’s participant.

Two women’s Money in the Bank qualifying matches set for next WWE Raw

Two women’s Money in the Bank qualifying matches have been announced for the June 5 episode of WWE Raw.

As announced during this week’s show, Becky Lynch will face Sonya Deville in a qualifying match on next week’s Raw. Lynch is coming off a loss to Trish Stratus at last week’s Night of Champions pay-per-view, while Deville is coming off a loss in Monday’s Women’s Tag Team Championship bout on Raw.

Also set for next week, Zoey Stark will face Natalya in a Money in the Bank qualifier. Stark helped Stratus defeat Lynch at Night of Champions, and that program continued in an angle on this week’s Raw where Stratus and Stark laid out Lynch. Natalya is coming off a defeat in a SmackDown Women’s title match against Rhea Ripley at Night of Champions.

Next week’s Raw lineup:

WWE Raw, Monday, June 5 —

  • Women’s Money in the Bank qualifying match: Becky Lynch vs. Sonya Deville
  • Women’s Money in the Bank qualifying match: Zoey Stark vs. Natalya

Two wrestlers qualify for men’s WWE Money in the Bank ladder match

Two wrestlers qualified for the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match on Monday’s episode of WWE Raw.

Ricochet defeated The Miz, and Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Bronson Reed in qualifying matches to punch their ticket to the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match set for the Money in the Bank pay-per-view on Saturday, July 1 from London.

Qualifying matches will continue on Friday’s SmackDown, with one men’s bout and one women’s bout. In addition, two women’s qualifiers have been announced for next week’s Raw.

On the men’s side, LA Knight will face Montez Ford of The Street Profits on SmackDown in a qualifying bout.

The first women’s Money in the Bank qualifier takes place on SmackDown, with Zelina Vega facing Lacey Evans.

Women’s qualifying matches will continue on next week’s Raw, with Becky Lynch vs. Sonya Deville, plus Zoey Stark vs. Natalya announced for that show.

In addition, it was notable on Raw in a backstage promo segment with Gunther and Matt Riddle that Gunther suggested that Riddle could cash in for a shot at his Intercontinental Championship. While the Money in the Bank ladder match winner has traditionally challenged for a World title, the precedent was established last year that the contract could be cashed in on a secondary title, as Austin Theory unsuccessfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract for a shot at the United States title.

Money in the Bank qualifiers to begin on next WWE Raw

Money in the Bank qualifying matches will begin on the May 29 WWE Raw episode.

As announced during this week’s episode, qualifying matches for the July 1 pay-per-view will begin on next week’s Raw. No participants have been announced for the qualifying matches.

Already announced for next week is a match to crown new Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Former title holder Raquel Rodriguez will team with Shotzi against Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler, Bayley & IYO SKY of Damage CTRL, and Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville in a four-way. Rodriguez & Liv Morgan vacated the Women’s Tag titles on last week’s WWE SmackDown following an injury suffered by Morgan on the May 12 SmackDown.

Next week’s Raw will also feature fallout from Saturday’s Night of Champions pay-per-view where Raw’s Cody Rhodes will take on Brock Lesnar, plus Seth Rollins faces AJ Styles in the finals of a tournament to crown the new World Heavyweight Championship.

The lineup for the Memorial Day episode of Raw:

  • Money in the Bank qualifying matches
  • Women’s Tag Team Championship: Raquel Rodriguez & Shotzi vs. Ronda Rousey & Shayna Basler vs. Bayley & IYO SKY vs. Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville

Roman Reigns advertised for WWE Money in the Bank

It appears that Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns will be in London for Money in the Bank this summer.

WWE’s website now lists Reigns among the wrestlers advertised for Money in the Bank 2023. Cody Rhodes, Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair, SmackDown Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley, Seth Rollins, and Becky Lynch are also advertised for the event.

Money in the Bank is taking place at the O2 Arena in London, England on Saturday, July 1. Reigns previously wasn’t advertised for the PPV.

On night one of the WWE Draft last Friday, Reigns was selected by SmackDown with the first overall pick. He hasn’t wrestled since retaining the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Rhodes at WrestleMania 39.

Reigns won’t be in action at WWE’s Backlash PPV in Puerto Rico this Saturday. WWE has yet to confirm if he’ll be defending the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, May 27.

Reigns’ Universal Championship run is nearing the 1,000-day mark. He’s been champion for 977 days as of today.

Reigns is also advertised for SummerSlam in Detroit this August.

WWE Money in the Bank taking place in London

This year’s WWE Money in the Bank will take place at the O2 Arena in London, England.

WWE announced the news Thursday morning, stating it will take place on Saturday, July 1st. It will be their first pay-per-view in the city in over 20 years as the last one was WWE Insurrextion in May 2002.

It’s the latest major foray into the region as WWE held their first PPV stadium show in the UK since 1992 with last September’s hugely-successful Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales. It also comes in a year in which the company is expected to launch NXT Europe which will replace the now shuttered NXT UK brand.

As in past years, the event will feature both men’s and women’s ladder matches with the winners earning title shots at a time and place of their choice anytime over the following year.

A presale date wasn’t announced, but fans were encouraged to sign up for alerts to get more information.

Shotzi responds to fan reaction to WWE Money in the Bank match

Shotzi says that some of the comments she’s received following Money in the Bank have “hit hard.”

The SmackDown wrestler performed in the women’s Money in the Bank match on the pay-per-view. On Monday, she posted a statement on Twitter addressing critics of her performance.

“There are 3 things I care about at the end of a match. Is everyone safe? Did everyone have fun? Did the crowd react? Nobody got hurt. We all had a blast and the Vegas crowd was HotHotHot! I felt on top of the world after that match and was so excited to finally have my first hardcore match in over a year. I wouldn’t have done anything I didn’t practice or thought I couldn’t do safely. But I’m not a wrestle robot, I’m human and slips happen especially in a CHAOTIC UNPREDICTABLE ladder match!

“I can take a joke and laugh at myself (One of the first things I said was ‘I can’t wait to see that spot on botchamania’) but comments like “you should be fired” and other terrible things admittedly hit hard. I had to have a few friends wipe the tears off my face and slap some sense into me and remind me WHO THE F I AM! That being said, all my haters can SUCK MY BIG GIANT HAIR MANGOS!”

Alexa Bliss and Natalya both replied to Shotzi’s comments.

“I’m proud of you for always keeping it real. Ladder matches are so hard to do. You guys worked your asses off—” Natalya wrote

“This is why I don’t like Twitter most of the time – ppl are always to bash everything – if people only knew what all goes into what we do – & the chaos of that day haha everyone is safe & we all had fun,” wrote Bliss.

Theory wins WWE men’s Money in the Bank ladder match

Despite never even qualifying for the match, Theory is the new Mr. Money in the Bank.

Theory won the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match by defeating Riddle, Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Omos, Sami Zayn, and Madcap Moss at Saturday night’s pay-per-view. There were originally only supposed to be seven wrestlers in the match, but WWE authority figure Adam Pearce came out to the stage before the match started and added Theory as an additional participant.

Theory is Vince McMahon’s protege on WWE television. It was indicated on commentary that McMahon was responsible for Theory being added to the ladder match.

Theory knocked Riddle off a ladder at the end of the match, then retrieved the Money in the Bank briefcase. Riddle had hit a super RKO on Rollins off a ladder and was trying to grab the briefcase before being thwarted by Theory.

Earlier in the night at Money in the Bank, Theory lost the United States title to Bobby Lashley.

Theory can cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase for a shot at the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at any point within the next year. Roman Reigns is the current champion and is set to defend the title against Brock Lesnar in a Last Man Standing match at SummerSlam later this month.

Liv Morgan cashes in, defeats Ronda Rousey at WWE Money in the Bank

Liv Morgan is the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion.

After winning the Money in the Bank briefcase in the show opener, Morgan cashed in later in the evening to defeat Ronda Rousey and win the title at WWE Money in the Bank in Las Vegas.

Rousey had successfully retained the title, defeating Natalya by submission with an armbar. Rousey sold the impact of a Natalya sharpshooter on her legs after the bout, then Morgan sprinted to the ring to cash in her briefcase.

Morgan escaped an ankle lock from Rousey, then cradled her for a pin to win the title.

The title win is the first for Morgan in her WWE career. Morgan signed with the company in 2014, and worked on the NXT brand from 2014 to 2017. She debuted on the SmackDown roster in November 2017 with Ruby Riott and Sarah Logan as the Riott Squad. Riott, now Ruby Soho in AEW, responded to the Morgan title win on social media:

Rousey had held the SmackDown Women’s title since WrestleMania Backlash on May 8, where she defeated Charlotte Flair to win the belt in an I Quit match. Her first reign with the SmackDown title ends at 55 days.

VIDEO: Cryptic teaser airs during WWE Money in the Bank

A cryptic video aired during tonight’s WWE Money in the Bank event, leading to speculation over who the video was for.

Prior to tonight’s match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, a vignette aired showing imagery such as gold medals, taped glasses, a license plate that appears to read “LATINOHEAT”, armbands similar to what The Hardy Boyz used to wear, a crow, and a cross.

Speculation following the video suggests it could be Edge, as gold medals (Kurt Angle), taped glasses (The Dudley Boyz), LATINOHEAT (Eddie Guerrero), and The Hardy Boyz are former opponents of his. He was laid out and attacked by members of the Judgment Day following last month’s Hell in a Cell event and has not been seen since.

Other speculation includes Bray Wyatt, as the vignette was done in a style similar to past Wyatt vignettes, and Gable Steveson, who won a gold medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and signed with the WWE last year.

Liv Morgan wins WWE women’s Money in the Bank ladder match

Update —

Liv Morgan cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase later in the night at Saturday’s PPV, defeating Ronda Rousey to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

**********

At Saturday night’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view, Liv Morgan picked up the biggest win of her career to date.

Morgan won the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, defeating Becky Lynch, Lacey Evans, Raquel Rodriguez, Alexa Bliss, Shotzi, and Asuka. The Money in the Bank briefcase guarantees Morgan a shot at the Raw or SmackDown Women’s Championship at any point within the next year.

It appeared that Lynch was poised to win the match after taking out Asuka and knocking over two ladders that Rodriguez, Shotzi, Evans, and Bliss were on. But Morgan set up a ladder next to the one Lynch was climbing and stopped her from retrieving the briefcase. Lynch tried to push over Morgan’s ladder, but Morgan put her foot on the top rope and used it to get the ladder back in place. Morgan then knocked Lynch down and grabbed the briefcase.

In one of the highlights of the match, Morgan gave Evans a sunset flip powerbomb off a ladder early on:

Bianca Belair is currently the Raw Women’s Champion and Ronda Rousey is the SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Morgan was interviewed backstage after her Money in the Bank win. Morgan said she’s never wanted anything more than to be champion. When asked if she’s decided when and who she’s going to cash in on, Morgan said WrestleMania is sounding pretty good — but she just wants to celebrate for now.

Becky Lynch, Riddle qualify for WWE Money in the Bank ladder matches

Two more wrestlers have qualified for Saturday’s WWE Money in the Bank ladder matches.

Becky Lynch and Riddle claimed spots in the ladder bouts with wins on this week’s WWE Raw. Riddle won a 20-man battle royal to earn a spot in the men’s Money in the Bank match, while Lynch won a six-way elimination match in Raw’s main event to secure the last spot in the women’s Money in the Bank bout.

The women’s field is now set at seven competitors, while it appears as though there will be one more men’s qualifying match on this week’s SmackDown to bring that lineup to seven.

Here is the lineup for Money in the Bank:

WWE Money in the Bank, Saturday, July 2, 8 p.m. Eastern time on Peacock & WWE Network —
