Wrestling Entertainment Series cancels debut show

Wrestling Entertainment Series has canceled its inaugural show.

The event was originally scheduled for June 4 but was later rescheduled to Saturday, July 9. It was to have taken place from the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, England, and aired on FITE TV.

On Wednesday, the promotion released a statement regarding the cancelation. They noted that “with so many talent not showing up” they would have to cancel the show. WES also promised to be back “in the near future.”

WES’ statement:

“Dear fans and followers, Unfortunately we will have to cancel the event scheduled for this Saturday at the Motorpoint arena in Nottingham, England.

We are deeply disappointed in the news that we have to share but with so many talent not showing up we will have no choice then to cancel the event.

Our team worked so hard on this event day in and day out for the fans to come with a different type of wrestling event and believe that we still will be able to show that in the near future.

We do want to say that all our talent that was scheduled have been paid in full and that Lina Fanene was paid her deposit as well while she changed her mind and did not want to show up and wrestle anymore.

For now we will have to apologize for this, but we promise that it will not end here. See you soon!

– Team WES”

The promotion would later confirm that everyone who purchased a ticket will be refunded.

On Sunday, Lina Fanene (FKA Nia Jax) called out the promotion for false advertising her for the show.

Adam Cailler of the DailyStar reported on Tuesday that the event had sold just 350 tickets.

Several wrestlers who had been advertised for the event commented on WES’ statement.

“Instead of blaming the talent who took weeks off to come work for your NEW company under the impression you could be trusted… try refunding the fans & apologizing for your lack of organization,” wrote Chelsea Green, who had been advertised for the original date.

“Talent ‘not showing up’ What a laugh…” wrote Matt Rehwoldt, who later accused the company of “ghosting” him after agreeing to work the show.

“I refuse to let anyone control my emotions. With that being said, I am available in the US/MEXICO/Canada/PR this weekend 7/8 – 7/11. If we worked together before let’s make a deal,” wrote Lince Dorado, who was scheduled to face Samuray del Sol.

Nia Jax calls out Wrestling Entertainment Series for falsely advertising her

Lina Fanene (the former Nia Jax) has called out Wrestling Entertainment Series for continuing to advertise her for their debut show.

Fanene announced on June 23 that she would no longer be appearing at WES’ debut event, but she has continued to be featured on advertising material for the show. Fanene reiterated on Sunday that she won’t be part of the event.

“I do not know why I am still on this poster, but I will REPEAT myself again…I will NOT be at the show,” Fanene wrote. “Please do not buy a ticket thinking you will see me perform or get a chance to meet me. I hate that this misleads people!”

WES’ first show is scheduled to take place at Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, England this Saturday (July 9). It was originally set for June 4 before being postponed.

Fanene hasn’t wrestled since being released by WWE in November 2021. She was initially supposed to face CJ Perry (formerly known as Lana) for the WES Women’s World Championship at WES’ debut show. That was changed due to Fanene vs. an opponent to be determined after Lana pulled off the event.

Commentator Matthew Rehwoldt tweeted over the weekend that he’s been “completely ghosted” by WES.

WES is being launched by Gzim Selmani and Sunny Dhinsa, who were formerly known as The Authors of Pain in WWE. The promotion’s debut is scheduled to air live on Fite TV this Saturday.

Matt Rehwoldt says he’s been ‘completely ghosted’ by WES

Matt Rehwoldt doubts the inaugural Wrestling Entertainment Series show will happen.

WES originally scheduled its debut event for June 4 and announced Rehwoldt would be on commentary for the show. They later pushed the date back to July 9, however, and Rehwoldt posted to social media to say he had another booking that weekend.

On Saturday, Rehwoldt said WES offered to pay him upfront in order to perform on the show and he then canceled his conflicting booking. Now Rehwoldt is stating that he’s received no communication or travel arrangements from WES.

“So @wesofficialtv has cost me time and now cost me income,” he wrote on Twitter. “I was asked to be on this show but had a conflicting booking. I was told they really wanted me and would pay me upfront. So as they were former colleagues I took them at their word and passed on my other booking.”

“And since I have been completely ghosted. Zero communication. I have friends booked for the show and luckily some of them have been paid already but I doubt the show will happen. No travel, hotel, or any pertinent information has been shared with anyone I know.”

“Now I’m also out a weekend or income due to them. Part of that is on me as I chose to forgo my other date… But as I said I was told repeatedly that “for sure“ this was happening and they wanted me to be there. I would be wary of buying a ticket or the broadcast of this show.”

Jonathan Coachman and Tom Hannifan have also been announced for the show.

WES has yet to respond to Rehwoldt’s comments.

Tom Hannifan joins commentary team for WES debut show

Tom Hannifan will be on commentary for the inaugural Wrestling Entertainment Series event.

The promotion revealed the news on Instagram Wednesday. Jonathan Coachman & Matt Rehwoldt had previously been announced as the commentary team. Rehwoldt pulled out of the event when it was rescheduled from June 4 to July 9, however.

CJ Perry (FKA Lana) is also no longer advertised for the show. She had originally been scheduled to face Lina Fanene (Nia Jax). The lineup on the promotion’s website now reads that Fanene’s opponent is TBD.

The debut event for WES will take place on July 9 from the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, England. It will air live on FITE TV. The full lineup for the show is as follows:

Wrestling Entertainment Series postpones debut show

Update —

Deonna Purrazzo tweeted about the Wrestling Entertainment Series show being postponed:

**********

Just days before it was supposed to take place, Wrestling Entertainment Series has postponed its debut show.

Wrestling Entertainment Series was supposed to launch with an event at Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, England this Saturday (June 4). But the promotion announced today that the event has been pushed back to Saturday, July 9.

“Unfortunately we have to postpone our first event,” the promotion wrote. “Wrestling Entertainment Series will now debut on July 9th at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. For any questions about your tickets contact @nottinghamarena”

Wrestling Entertainment Series is being launched by Gzim Selmani & Sunny Dhinsa (formerly known as The Authors of Pain in WWE). A press release was issued about the show’s postponement:

Nottingham, UK: Wrestling Entertainment Series (WES) is disappointed to announce that the debut event, which was originally scheduled for this Saturday, June 4th, at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham in the United Kingdom, has been postponed to July 9th.

Gzim Selmani, Legion of Pain & WES co-promoter, had the following to say:

We have all worked extremely hard on this event, however, things have not been going our way for us. Originally, the first event was set to take place in the UAE, but due to the sad & untimely passing of Sheikh Khalifa, we decided out of respect to change the event to Nottingham.

It was a huge undertaking to move the event to a completely different continent on three weeks’ notice. Unfortunately, with the Queen’s jubilee celebrations and the impact that is having on the events sector in the UK, and with just three weeks to prepare, it proved to be an impossible task.

I want to apologise to the fans for any inconvenience caused. We will make it up to you all on July 9th with an incredible show! Also, a big thank you to everyone who has supported WES so far. Since our launch, the response from fans, media, and fellow wrestlers has been really moving. Thank you!

See you all on July 9th!

Motorpoint Arena Nottingham is a 10,000-seat venue.
