ROH War of the Worlds Edinburgh results: New six-man tag champs

Submitted by reader Innes McVey

– The show started with a surprise appearance from Colt Cabana, who then inserted himself in the match between Josh Bodom and Kenny King.

– Kenny King defeated Josh Bodom and Colt Cabana

They had a pretty great match, which ended when King pinned Bodom. King was the face, Bodom was the heel, and Cabana did a lot of comedy as the third wheel. The crowd was behind Cabana a lot.

– Ultimo Guerrero & Rey Bucanero defeated The Briscoes

Guerrero picked up the win with a roll-up after The Briscoes worked on Bucanero for most of the match. Surprisingly, The Briscoes were booked to be heels here but the crowd was very much behind them.

– Bully Ray defeated EVIL by DQ

The audience was hot for EVIL, which continued for Los Ingobernables de Japon throughout the show. EVIL used Bully Ray’s chain for the DQ, then Bully got a table out and put EVIL through it.

Bully cut a short promo after the match and gave half of the table he broke to a kid in the crowd.

– Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito, SANADA & BUSHI) defeated KUSHIDA, Mistico & Titan

LIJ got the biggest reaction of the night. Everyone was hugely behind them. It was a good tag match, but it was dominated by how over LIJ were. Naito hit the Destino to win.

– Hiromu Takahashi defeated Mark Haskins

This got a similar reaction to the last match. Some fans knew Haskins from his UK work, but Takahashi was very over. They had an athletic match with high-flying that Takahashi won with the Time Bomb.

– The Young Bucks & Hangman Page defeated Dalton Castle & The Boys to win the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship

They had what was probably the best match of the night and did one of the most insane finishes I’ve ever seen. Page set up the Rite of Passage on one of the Boys, but the Bucks placed the other on Page’s front in the normal tombstone position. They then did a double Meltzer Driver to win the titles.

– Cody & Marty Scurll defeated The Addiction

Next was what had been advertised as the main event. The Addiction came out in kilts and were wearing Roddy Piper shirts, but they ended up turning it into a heel act.

Cody and Scurll were both very over, especially Scurll. It was a pretty average match compared to the rest of the card (but was good on its own). Scurll put Frankie Kazarian in the chicken wing while Cody hit the Cross Rhodes for the victory.

– Silas Young defeated Jay Lethal in an Edinburgh street fight

They had the second best match on the show, only beaten by the six-man tag. They used trash cans, brooms, ladders, tables, and chairs. It was brutal and everything looked genuinely believable.

It ended with Young using an AA from the top rope to put Lethal through a table and win. The only downside was that it went on longer than the crowd was up for and a lot of people were waiting for it to end so they could leave.

Report submitted by reader James Ryder with additional notes from Martin Bentley

– The show was being taped for VOD with commentators at ringside.

– Mark Briscoe defeated Ryan Smile

Briscoe got a good pop for his entrance, then the crowd was behind Smile during the match but with dueling chants in parts. It was a good opener to begin with and then heated up as it went on. Briscoe won with a Cutthroat Driver.

– The Addiction defeated Ultimo Guerrero & Rey Bucanero

This was a good match with plenty of back-and-forth action. The crowd got into the CMLL team as it went on. Christopher Daniels pinned Bucanero with his feet on the ropes, then there was a post-match brawl with Guerrero launching himself onto The Addiction on the outside. Daniels and Kazarian retreated after that.

– Jay Briscoe defeated Kenny King

They had a basic match. There was brawling on the outside early, but the crowd wasn’t into this as much as the other matches. Briscoe won with the Jay Driller and refused a handshake after.

– Bully Ray defeated Jay Lethal, Silas Young, and Sha Samuels in a four-way match

Bully Ray and Lethal got big reactions. There were some Attitude Era fans who were into everything Bully Ray did. The match itself was fun, with everyone getting their chance to get some stuff in.

In the closing moments, Bully Ray and Lethal did the “Wassup” spot and Bully shouted for him to get the tables. Bully won with a top rope splash. After the match, he called for Lethal to come back to the ring. Bully said that ECW was his company, but ROH is Lethal’s.

– ROH SIx-Man Tag Team Champions Dalton Castle & The Boys defeated Jushin Thunder Liger, Mistico & Delirious to retain their titles

Liger and Castle got big reactions and there were really loud chants for them. The match had a lot of comedy, but it was really fun and the audience loved it. Castle launched both Boys separately over the top rope onto Mistico and Liger near the end. He then hit Delirious with the Bang-a-Rang to retain.

– ROH World Television Champion KUSHIDA defeated Titan to retain his title

Brilliant match. It got the first “this is awesome” chant of the night, as well as “fight forever” chants and a standing ovation from the crowd as soon as it was over.

Titan got himself over big with his high-flying and lucha transitions. He kept fighting off the Hoverboard Lock, but KUSHIDA eventually won with Back to the Future. Titan got a standing ovation despite many people not being familiar with him going into it.

– Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito, SANADA, EVIL, Hiromu Takahashi & BUSHI) defeated Bullet Club (Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Marty Scurll & Hangman Page)

Takahashi came out with Daryl (his stuffed cat), resulting in a loud “Daryl” chant. Naito also got a big reaction. Bullet Club came out together and got a big pop. There were loud “F*ck The Revival” chants, along with other Bullet Club and LIJ ones.

LIJ worked on Scurll for a short time before he got the hot tag and the Bucks cleaned house. Cody, Page, and The Bucks all wiped out LIJ with dives to the outside. There was a cool moment in the match where the Bullet Club all applied a figure four, getting “Nature Boy” chants in the process.

Each Bullet Club member then missed a top rope moonsault, with the crowd having to encourage Scurll to do it. The Bucks hit all of LIJ with a superkick to the delight of the fans.

Scurll fired up the crowd by going for the chicken wing on Daryl. Takahashi made the save, but he got hit with a superkick. The Bucks then gave Daryl the Meltzer Driver. All of the members of the Bullet Club gave Takahashi a superkick at the same time, but Naito pinned Page with the Destino to a massive pop.

That was a great main event and the audience loved it. LIJ posed after while the Bullet Club stayed in the ring and Cody got the mic. He put over that it was Page’s first time in the UK, then hyped up Saturday’s iPPV in Liverpool (which the crowd booed).

Cody called SANADA a young boy and said he’s going to beat him half to death. He gave Scurll the mic, with Scurll saying The Villain in the Bullet Club in the UK is too sweet. He put over the UK wrestling scene and how long he’s been wrestling here.

Scurll mentioned the bet Cody has with Dave Meltzer and said ROH can run a 10,000 seat arena in the USA. He then asked why ROH doesn’t run a 10,000 seat UK arena instead. He mentioned they should run Wembley Arena to a huge pop.

Matt Jackson got the mic and said the figure four in the match was in homage to Ric Flair. He plugged The Elite’s YouTube show and their T-shirts before ending with a “F*ck The Revival” chant.

Cody vs. SANADA to main event ROH War of the Worlds UK iPPV

After announcing that the show would be broadcast on iPPV, it didn’t take long for Ring of Honor to reveal the main event of War of the Worlds UK: Liverpool.

It will be Cody Rhodes defending his ROH World Championship against Los Ingobernables de Japon member SANADA. Rhodes won the title at ROH’s Best in the World pay-per-view last month when he defeated Christopher Daniels.

SANADA will be coming off of his run in this year’s G1 Climax, which ends on August 13th. The War of the Worlds UK iPPV will take place at the Olympia in Liverpool on August 19th, with SANADA’s Los Ingobernables stablemates (Tetsuya Naito, EVIL, BUSHI, and Hiromu Takahashi) also scheduled to appear.

A four-corner survival match with KUSHIDA putting his ROH Television title on the line against Marty Scurll, Dalton Castle, and Hiromu Takahashi is the only other match announced for the Liverpool show as of now.

Ring of Honor announced today its next major event would be an iPPV on August 19th from Liverpool, England.

One match was announced for the show, a four-way elimination match for the ROH TV title with KUSHIDA defending against Dalton Castle, Hiromu Takahashi, and Marty Scurll.

The show will be called “War of the Worlds UK — Liverpool,” and will be available for $19.99 through the ROH website and FITE TV. It will start at 1 p.m. Eastern time on a Saturday afternoon and will be the company’s first iPPV show outside of the U.S. or Canada, although they have also had streaming specials on New Japan World.

The iPPV is part of the War of the Worlds UK tour, with dates also scheduled for August 18th at York Hall in London and August 20th at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh, Scotland. Revolution Pro Wrestling’s Summer Sizzler show is also set for York Hall on August 17th and is listed as a kickoff event for the tour.

ROH has not officially announced its next pay-per-view, but it is slated for September 22nd in Las Vegas at Sam’s Town.

ROH announces War of the Worlds UK tour

Ring of Honor announced today a second War of the Worlds tour, this time in the U.K., which they stated would be a joint effort between ROH, New Japan, CMLL, and Revolution Pro Wrestling.

The tour will have shows on August 17th at York Hall in London, which is Revolution Pro’s Summer Sizzler 2017 event. It will follow with a War of the Worlds branded show on August 18th in London at York Hall, an August 19th show in Liverpool at the Olympia, and an August 20th show in Edinburgh, Scotland at the Corn Exchange.

The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega recently headlined a series of small building sellout shows in the U.K. and Ireland in April and set personal merchandise selling records.

The shows will take place a few days after the completion of NJPW’s G-1 Climax tournament. The final day of that tournament is scheduled for August 13th at Sumo Hall in Tokyo.
