WWE Main Event results: Ludwig Kaiser vs. Apollo Crews

This week’s WWE Main Event was taped at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania before Monday’s episode of Raw.

One poor and one good match this week, but it was a show that had a variety of fresh faces and was all the better for it.

Veer & Sanga w/Jinder Mahal defeated Noam Dar & Oro Mensah w/ Lash Legend & Jakarta Jackson (6:02)

Despite there being a lot of people in and around the ring, that traffic didn’t translate into much of an exciting match. It was largely slow and methodical interspersed with sporadic moments of pace.

For a while there, Veer was a Main Event regular, but this was just his second Main Event appearance as part of Indus Sher. For Mensah, it was his Main Event debut, and he did well.

Jinder Mahal looks very comfortable in the elder statesman role because he’s a very experienced performer now who has worked at the top level and been in big title matches in the past.

Dar and Mensah tried their best to inject some action into the match, but it quickly became a series of slow double-team moves from Veer and Sanga, cutting the ring in half and using quick tags. Everything was made to look bigger than it was, with the camera kept low to make even an elbow drop look damaging.

Dar got a hot tag after Mensah had been destroyed for a while, but this was quickly thwarted as he and Mensah tried to get Veer off his feet. Veer reversed it into a double suplex in what was probably the highlight of the match.

In the end, Sanga held Dar up as if he was going to use a backbreaker while Veer came off the second rope with a leg drop and they got the win from there.

Ludwig Kaiser defeated Apollo Crews (7:11)

This was a much stronger match than the opener as Kaiser and Crews were great together. It was a genuine 50-50 bout with a real smoothness about how they worked.

While this match marked Kaiser’s Main Event debut, Apollo Crews has been here many, many times before. Yet, it was Crews’ first televised match since August, in a summer where he was a show regular.

They worked quickly together in the opening couple of minutes, but went to an early commercial break when Crews clotheslined Kaiser over the top rope to the floor.

When they came back, although there was a brief rest hold, it was all action as both men tried to get the win. Crews used a belly to back suplex to get some separation and as he was mid-air, Kaiser threw out out his hands in desperation. There’s a lot to like about Kaiser and his instincts are clearly very good.

After Crews hit his standing moonsault, he went up to the top rope. Kaiser had it scouted and nailed Crews with a kick to the head. At some point here Kaiser had bloodied his nose, but it made it look all the more cool when he hooked in his finisher and glared at the hard cam.

He held Crews a bit like you would for a Sister Abigail, but hooked his arm behind Crews’ neck so that he could transition into a DDT to get the win.

There was a lot to like and enjoy here but, sadly, I don’t think Kaiser is about to become a Main Event regular anytime soon.

WWE notes: Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins, Veer changes, WrestleMania 38 ticket sales

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided some WWE notes and insight on Cody Rhodes and some ticket sales updates for WrestleMania 38.

Cody vs. Seth a go for WrestleMania

On Rhodes, Meltzer said that WWE sources have indicated that Cody Rhodes facing Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 38 is indeed set.

“All WWE sources indicate the belief that the deal is done and the match is happening and that any suggestion it isn’t is not the case,” Meltzer wrote. “There are those close to the situation who are still suggesting otherwise but one person in WWE called that ‘silliness’ at this point.”

Veer getting a change

It was also noted in this week’s WON that when Veer finally does arrive to Raw on April 4, his character will be changed.

“Veer’s long-awaited Raw return is scheduled for the 4/4 show in Dallas. It also looks like they are changing his original character,” Meltzer wrote.

What’s closing Saturday’s first night of WrestleMania?

There were reports out this week that Steve Austin’s appearance on the KO Show would headline WrestleMania’s first night on Saturday, but Meltzer said that as of now, that is not the case.

“According to those in WWE, as of mid-week, Flair vs. Rousey was scheduled to close the show but it was also noted that match order changes frequently,” he wrote.

Ticket sales update for WrestleMania weekend

In terms of ticket sales, there are currently 60,586 tickets out for WrestleMania Saturday and 58,499 out for the Sunday show. The stadium is set up for 65,268. The current “get in” price on the secondary market for Saturday is $35 and for Sunday is $29.

The SmackDown/Hall of Fame ceremony on April 1st has 10,704 tickets distributed while the April 4th edition of Raw has 9,744 tickets out. It was noted that WWE will likely set a record for most ticket and merchandise revenue ever from a WrestleMania weekend.

Two matches, Lashley-Goldberg segment set for WWE Raw

WWE has made a few announcements for Monday’s SummerSlam go-home edition of Raw.

WWE Champion Bobby Lashley and Goldberg will take part in a face-to-face segment on Monday’s Raw. It will be the final build to their title match at SummerSlam.

Drew McIntyre vs. Veer & Shanky in a handicap match has also been announced for Monday’s Raw. If McIntyre wins, Veer and Shanky will be banned from ringside for McIntyre’s match against Jinder Mahal at SummerSlam. But if Veer & Shanky win, McIntyre’s sword Angela will be banned from the SummerSlam match.

Plus, Randy Orton vs. Omos is set for Monday’s Raw. Orton defeated Omos’ tag team partner AJ Styles in the main event of Raw this past Monday.

Orton returned to WWE television on this week’s Raw, appearing for the first time since June 21. Orton said he didn’t want to team with Riddle anymore and told Riddle not to accompany him to ringside for his match against Styles. But Orton got the win after Riddle tried to neutralize Omos at ringside. Riddle then wanted a hug from Orton after the match. Orton gave in and hugged Riddle, but he then dropped Riddle with an RKO.

Orton smiled and chuckled after hitting the RKO on Riddle, and Byron Saxton said on commentary that he thought Orton and Riddle were now back together. Riddle said in a post-show interview that he was confused by Orton’s actions, but he hopes he and Orton can work things out so that their RK-Bro team can be a thing.

Styles & Omos are the current Raw Tag Team Champions.

Monday’s Raw is taking place at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Jinder Mahal appears on WWE Raw with new group

Jinder Mahal appeared on Raw tonight with a new group that debuted last week on Main Event.

Mahal defeated Jeff Hardy in his first match on Raw in nearly a year, pinning Jeff Hardy clean with the Khallas. Mahal introduced two new associates, Veer (Rinku Singh, formerly one half of Indus Sher) and Shanky (Dilsher Shanky) prior to the match. The group previously made their debut as an act last week on Main Event, where Mahal also defeated Hardy.

Jinder Mahal’s career has been wrought with knee injuries since 2019. After returning from knee surgery in 2020, he underwent a second knee surgery almost immediately after, keeping him out of action for the rest of the year. He made his return at Superstar Spectacle in January, teaming with The Bollywood Boyz in a losing effort against Drew McIntyre and Indus Sher.

Veer has been in the WWE since 2018. He appeared on NXT TV with Saurav Gurjar and together they were known as Indus Sher, with Malcolm Bivens as their manager. Shanky has been with WWE since last year, with his most high-profile match being a eight-man tag match at Superstar Spectacle, where he and his team emerged victorious.
