NBA star announced for ESPN Wrestlepalooza coverage

Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton will be part of ESPN’s coverage of WWE Wrestlepalooza.

In a press release on Tuesday, ESPN announced several pre- and post-event shows for Saturday’s PLE in Indianapolis.

A one-hour ESPN Wrestlepalooza special hosted by Haliburton and Peter Rosenberg will air Friday, September 19, from 3 to 4 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2 and the ESPN app.

Also, part of Friday’s 6 p.m. episode of ESPN SportsCenter will be filmed live in Indianapolis, with anchor Elle Duncan joined by Haliburton and multiple WWE performers.

ESPN Radio will broadcast Hall of Fame’s Countdown to Wrestlepalooza show on Friday from 10 p.m. to midnight Eastern, hosted by Booker T and Brad Gilmore.

On Saturday, September 20, ESPN Road to Wrestlepalooza will air from 3 to 5 p.m. Eastern on ESPN social media platforms and the ESPN app, hosted by O’Shea Jackson Jr. and TJ Jefferson of the No Contest Wrestling podcast.

WWE’s official Wrestlepalooza pre-show will then begin at 5 p.m. Eastern on the ESPN app, with a post-event show streaming immediately following the PLE.

NBA star details canceled WWE SummerSlam appearance

NBA star Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers has revealed that he planned to walk out with John Cena at WWE SummerSlam had circumstances changed.

Appearing on Logan Paul’s IMPAULSIVE podcast, Haliburton said that he and WWE chief content officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque discussed an idea that would have seen an NBA Champion Haliburton leading the then-WWE Champion Cena to the ring at MetLife Stadium for his SummerSlam main event against Cody Rhodes.

Haliburton said:

“The plan was like two months ago, and when I say plan, I mean, like, very, very loosely. I talked to H [Levesque] about it maybe one time. It was like, if Cena is a heel in New York and we [the Pacers] win a championship, let me walk him out with the [NBA Finals] trophy.”

Haliburton’s plan didn’t come to fruition on several levels, as after defeating the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Pacers lost in the NBA Finals to the Oklahoma City Thunder. In the deciding game of the OKC series, Haliburton suffered a catastrophic Achilles injury that will likely cost him all of next season.

Haliburton said:

“When I got hurt, the first things were like [this cost me]– this game [Game 7], next season, John Cena.”

Tyrese Haliburton coming to WWE 2K25 as part of ‘Dunk & Destruction’ DLC pack

Tyrese Haliburton is coming to WWE 2K25.

The Indiana Pacers star appeared on Raw to make the announcement. He will be part of the Dunk & Destruction DLC pack that will be released on June 25 along with two other NBA stars that have yet to be announced. The Great Khali and Abyss will round out the pack.

WWE 2K’s social media account posted the first photo of Haliburton in the game.

The Pacers are set to face the New York Knicks in this year’s NBA playoffs. The two teams previously met in last year’s playoffs with the Pacers ultimately winning the semifinals. In his interview with Michael Cole and Pat McAfee, Haliburtion compared the rivalry between the two teams to the feud between The Rock and Steve Austin in the 1990s.

Three more DLC packs are slated for release during the course of 2025 featuring stars such as New Jack, Bull Nakano, Penta, Jordynne Grace, D’Lo Brown, Billy Gunn, Jesse Ventura, Sid Justice, and more.
