AEW Dynamite live results: Tag title match, Tony Khan’s big announcement

Sting & Darby Allin challenge for the Tag Team titles, plus Tony Khan will have a big announcement on tonight’s AEW Dynamite.

Ricky Starks & Big Bill defending the Tag titles against Sting & Allin in a tornado tag match is the headline bout for tonight’s show, as Sting will have the chance to add one more championship to his resume before his retirement match next month.

AEW owner Tony Khan has also promised a big announcement on tonight’s episode.

Also on the card, Samoa Joe’s World title challenger for Revolution will be decided when Swerve Strickland & Hangman Page go one-on-one.

Women’s World Champion Toni Storm will face Red Velvet in a title eliminator match with top contender Deonna Purrazzo on commentary.

Blackpool Combat Club’s Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson & Claudio Castagnoli will take on CMLL’s Mascara Dorada, Volador Jr. & Hechicero in a trios bout.

Chris Jericho vs. Konosuke Takeshita is also set for tonight’s show.

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us alongside Tony Schiavone and Taz as we immediately go to big fight entrances for our opening contest to see who will get the AEW World Title shot at Revolution against Samoa Joe.

Swerve Strickland (w/Prince Nana) vs. Hangman Adam Page ended in a Time Limit Draw

(A whole heck of a lot happened here folks, as this was one of the best Dynamite openers in a very long time. The pace was slow to start, but it really built up over time and the crowd only got more and more into it. I’m glad they only mentioned the time limit once and didn’t do any countdowns, as the finish felt like it came out of nowhere. Post match really made Page feel like the heel, trying to weasel his way out of having to go any longer than he needed. I don’t know why he was ranked ahead of Strickland to begin with, seeing as Strickland has more wins over him, but that’s a whole other Rankings argument I’ll leave others to have. Regardless, it’s the finish we all expected and Revolution should be one hell of a World Title match.)

With the intense history these two have had, I was surprised by the standard lock ups that started this match. Strickland shot a double leg and both men spilled to the floor and over the barricade. Back in the ring, Page briefly controlled with strikes until Strickland delivered a big boot to gain the advantage. Page answered with a fall away slam and kip up, taking in more jeers than cheers from the crowd as he delivered ground and pound. Strickland bit at the thumb and applied an Octopus Hold, tried to snap the arm back, but Page escaped and hit a springboard lariat to the neck on the apron. Page slowly picked apart Strickland both outside and back in the ring, as finally Strickland fought back with corner chops until a gut punch and low dropkick got Page a two. Page wanted his top rope moonsault to the floor, but Strickland moved, Page landed on his feet and ran into a rolling Flatliner from Strickland. After a head of steam, Strickland hit a leaping back flip dive over the top to the floor, as back inside, Strickland delivered an uppercut to the spine.

House Call connected, but Page kicked out, as both men fought into the corner, with Page trying a sunset flip powerbomb, but Strickland backflipped out, landing right on his head in the process and hit a spin kick to the head. Strickland wanted a JML Driver, but Page spun out into a Liger Bomb for two. Page, getting booed loudly now, tried a Buckshot, but Strickland dodged and hit a Buckshot of his own, followed by a Swerve Stomp for a close two. Page rolled outside and ate a Strickland pump kick, as Strickland wanted a piledriver while balancing on the guard rail, but Page countered into a DDT on the barricade to head to picture in picture.

During break, Page set up a table ringside and things returned to both men trading big boots before crumbling simultaneously. After laughing in Page’s face from the strikes thrown, Strickland answered with a back breaker and hung up Page in a Tree of Woe facing the outside of the ring. Strickland delivered a Swerve Stomp, as Page rolled to the table, which collapsed, so Strickland went and set up another. Strickland tried a 450 back inside, but Page got the knees up, as Justin Roberts announced 5 minutes remaining. Page skinned the cat and leveled Strickland with a lariat before a Buckshot turned Strickland inside out, but a foot on the rope broke the pin. Page connected with Dead Eye on the apron and told Paul Turner to count Strickland out. Knowing that he was asked not to get involved, Prince Nana just started dancing frantically and this seemed to help Strickland break the count at 9.

Page hit a baseball slide, grabbed a chair and screamed at Strickland to stay down, but decked Nana instead. The attention turned allowed Strickland to capitalize and hit the Swerve Stomp flush, but clutched his ankle in the process. Strickland tried a JML Driver, but Page rolled out and wrenched at the ankle. Both fought to the apron again and this time, Strickland hit Dead Eye through the table. Somehow both made it back in the ring, as Strickland wanted a third Swerve Stomp, but Page moved and Strickland collapsed. Page wanted a Buckshot, but Strickland dodged and hit the JML Driver, but the time limit expired right at the two count. The fans couldn’t believe it, they were furious. Strickland took the mic and demanded 5 more minutes, as Page was laughing, saying it was Strickland who needed to beat him to become number one contender, but didn’t do it. Page said Strickland won’t become World Champion. Tony Schiavone stood up and said he received word from Tony Khan that there are 2 Number One Contenders and it’ll be a Triple Threat at Revolution for the AEW World Title. Page was furious and stormed to the back, while Strickland smiled.

-Renee Paquette was backstage with Samoa Joe, asking for his thoughts on what just happened. Joe said acted happy at first, but was furious that this happened, saying both men will suffer because of this.

Timeless Toni Storm (w/Luther & Mariah May) defeated Red Velvet

(This was a pretty basic match, as Storm sent a message to her Revolution challenger that her submission game can’t be counted out.)

Deonna Purrazzo joined commentary for this contest, as Velvet tried a fast start, connecting on a leg lariat and chops in the corner. Velvet opted to play to the crowd and Storm answered with a Thesz Press and Sky High for two. Mariah May admired Storm keeping Velvet grounded throughout the entire commercial break. Velvet mounted her comeback with corner strikes and another leg lariat before a cazadora bulldog led to double knees to the back in the ropes. Velvet tried a corner charge, but Storm swept the leg, sending Velvet face first into the buckle. Storm followed with a violent Sweet Cheek Music and DDT, but Velvet kicked out. Slow to follow, Storm nearly got rolled up for two, as Velvet missed a corkscrew kick and Storm sank in an ankle lock, while staring down Purrazzo. Velvet tapped, as Storm refused to let the hold go, causing Purrazzo to leave commentary to have a face off. Storm kissed Purrazzo on the cheek before Luther stepped in between and ushered Storm to the back with May.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with Orange Cassidy, Trent Beretta & Rocky Romero, asking Cassidy about wrestling Tomohiro Ishii on Collision after having a 6 Man Tag on Rampage. Cassidy said he’ll be fine, as Paquette asked about how Chuck Taylor is doing, with Cassidy saying Chuckie T is there tonight, he’s getting checked on by doctors. Paquette requested they all bring it in for a handshake and everyone awkwardly obliged and left the shot. This was the exact kind of awkwardness you’d expect from a Cassidy promo.

Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson & Claudio Castagnoli defeated Mascara Dorada, Volador Jr. & Hechicero

(I really enjoyed this clash of styles and by the looks of it; this is just the start of the BCC vs. CMLL feud. I liked how into this match the crowd was as well. The finish certainly builds to a rematch or series of matches, as Castagnoli got the win, by any means necessary.)

Mistico is seated in the front row along with Star Jr. & Esfinge, as Danielson & Hechicero picked up where they left off on Collision. Hechicero applied a rolling bow and arrow, Danielson escaped and Hechicero got a rolling cradle for two. Castagnoli & Dorada tagged in and had a face off that showed off Castagnoli’s size advantage, which Dorada didn’t care about, as he threw fastball chops. After trying to use his speed, Castagnoli was sent outside with an impressive head scissors, but stepped aside before Dorada could even attempt a dive. Moxley & Volador came in and immediately slugged it out, before each connected on a Tope. After each connected on the move, they had boots put to them by the others teammates as things went to commercial.

When things returned, Castagnoli had Volador in a Giant Swing before Moxley made the tag and got a quick two count. Moxley poured on the offense before Volador dodged a lariat and hit a thrust kick to make the hot tag to Dorada. After getting hung up in the ropes, Dorada hit a double arm drag on Moxley & Danielson before launching off Moxley’s back to drop Danielson with a head scissors. An incredible spinning head scissors sent Castagnoli out to the floor with his teammates, as Hechicero & Volador hit stereo Topes before Dorada followed with a Shooting Star off the middle rope. Hechicero dropped Danielson with the spinning hammerlock into the back breaker, as Dorado followed with a 450 for two. Moxley & Castagnoli returned to clean house, but Dorada hit a wild up and over Code Red on Castagnoli for two as well.

Volador dropped Moxley with a thrust kick and backstabber, but Danielson was there to follow with a Busaiku Knee. Hechicero flew in with a diving lariat before a chop battle with Castagnoli ensued. Cazadora was blocked, but Hechicero hit a spinning leg submission, which Danielson broke up. Hechicero tried to wrap up Danielson with a Stretch Muffler, but Moxley made the save. The match continued to break down until Hechicero hit a spinning guillotine legdrop on Castagnoli for two. Castagnoli sent Hechicero into the ref and it allowed Castagnoli to hit a low blow and get the roll up for the win.

Post match, Mistico, Star Jr. & Esfinge came in the ring for a face off, but with BCC outnumbered, Matt Sydal, Christopher Daniels, Matt Menard & Angelo Parker ran out to even the odds with all 12 men staring each other down.

-We go backstage to Chuck Taylor being laid out by The Undisputed Kingdom, as Adam Cole said “Get Well Soon, Chuck.” Clearly Cole still holds a grudge over Taylor making fun of him all those years on PWG commentary. If I were Excalibur, I’d be scared he’s next.

Tony Khan’s Big Announcement

Khan is backstage and said fans might have heard earlier today that AEW Dynamite is coming to the TD Garden in Boston on March 13. On that important night, it will be AEW Big Business. It will be one of the most important nights in AEW history and one the entire pro wrestling industry will remember. Tickets go on sale this Saturday.

Konosuke Takeshita (w/Don Callis & Powerhouse Hobbs) submitted Chris Jericho

(Some of the bumps in this match were rough, as there were times Jericho’s head really snapped or bounced off the mat. It’s a big win for Takeshita, as I have no idea where Jericho goes from here in his feud with Callis, as it’s Guevara who is set up to face Hobbs next. Speaking of, Hobbs’ back is so large; why Guevara needed a chair shot to the head in this one instead of just multiple shots to the back is beyond me. It even got a groan from Tony Schiavone on commentary.)

After trading shoulder tackles, Jericho connected on a stiff forearm, clotheslining Takeshita to the floor. Callis, showing tough love, slapped Takeshita to wake him up, as Jericho flew in on the attack. Takeshita promptly turned the tables and was relentless, dropping Jericho with a brainbuster on the floor. The crowd cheered Takeshita, who hit a second rope senton back inside, following it with a Takeshita-line. Jericho went up and over in the corner and connected on a double axe handle, but Hobbs tripped the leg, allowing Takeshtia to regain control. Hobbs was then cracked with a chair in the back by Sammy Guevara, no selling it, as Guevara hit a Cutter off the apron. Hobbs stumbled around and Guevara decked him with a brutal unprotected chair shot to the head and both fought through the crowd to the back. Jericho sent Takeshita to the floor and put on the Demon mask that Takeshita wears before trying a dive. Problem was, Jericho couldn’t see where Takeshita was and just barely clipped him.

Back from break, Takeshtia delivered a sit out F-5 and violent running boot that sent Jericho’s head snapping against the ropes. Takeshita followed with an over the top dive outside before back inside, Takeshita wanted a top rope senton, but Jericho got the knees up. Jericho wanted the Lionsault, but Takeshita got knees up of his own. Forearm battle ensued, as Jericho attempted the Walls of Jericho, which Takeshita rolled through, tried a Crunchy, but mistimed it and both landed awkwardly. Thankfully, the follow up wheelbarrow German landed flush. Takeshita-line was countered into a Code Breaker, as Jericho hit the bulldog, but Takeshita countered a Lionsault into the Blue Thunder Bomb for two. Both men blocked home run shots until Jericho tried a corner hurricanrana, which Takeshita slipped out of and hit an Avalanche Blue Thunder Bomb for a close two. Jericho’s head really bounced off the apron.

Takeshita hit the Power Drive knee and tried another, but Jericho blocked it into the Walls of Jericho. Callis threw a chair in the ring to distract the ref, as with the attention turned, Callis popped Jericho with the screwdriver. Takeshita locked in the Walls of Jericho and Jericho almost faded with the arm dropping twice, so Takeshita switched to a Lion Tamer and Jericho immediately tapped.

Sting & Darby Allin defeated Ricky Starks & Big Bill to win the AEW Tag Team Titles in a Tornado Tag

(This was exactly what you’d expect from a Sting & Allin Tornado Tag, as we got insane Allin bumps, the age defying dive from Sting and the crowd were into it every step of the way. The story here was Starks had a brief moment of respect for Sting at the absolute worst time, as the hesitation cost he & Bill the titles. I’m not sure where they go from here, but I really enjoyed their work as a tag team and hope this isn’t the end for them. As for the post match, the idea to have The Bucks wear white suits and Allin’s blood cover it to end the show was a perfect visual for the heels. Sting will be hell bent for revenge not just for Allin, but for The Bucks attacking his sons as well.)

Sting hugged his children that are seated in the front row for the upcoming main event. Bell sounded and Bill immediately slammed Allin into the guard rail in front of Sting’s family, while Sting & Starks brawled into the crowd, but Sting disappeared after some time. As Bill & Starks beat up Allin, we saw Sting appear in the balcony and did what’s become his signature dive onto the pile. At 64 years old, Sting was up first as things went to picture in picture.

When things returned, Sting hit a Stinger Splash against the barricade on Bill, who no sold and just ran through Sting. Allin tried a Tope on Bill, who caught Allin in mid air with a Boss Man Slam, which looked visually incredible. Back in the ring, Bill lifted Allin up in a choke before just slamming him down, bouncing Allin’s head off the mat like a ball until throwing Allin clear over his head. Bill & Starks set up a table ringside, as Starks called for Bill to press slam Allin through it, but Sting made the save, fighting off both men. Sting ran wild, ultimately dodging a Bill big boot, crotching the big man in the process. Starks snuck up from behind and laid out Sting with a Scorpion Death Drop, as Allin broke up the pin. Allin & Starks slugged it out before Starks backflipped out of the corner and tweaked his ankle.

Sting & Allin traded Stinger & Coffin Splashes on Bill in the corner before a Code Red and follow up Coffin Drop to the floor by Allin connected on Bill. Starks missed an enzugiri on Sting, who locked in the Scorpion Death Lock, but Bill appeared in the frame, with Allin on his back in a sleeper. Bill made it to the apron before Allin spun around, gouged the eyes and both fell through the set up table. Starks got the ropes, but Tornado Tag means no breaks, as Sting still let the hold go. Sting tried a Stinger Splash, but Starks moved and Sting hit the exposed buckle. Starks briefly hesitated, as Sting fired up and Starks hit the Spear for a close two. Starks tried another Spear, but ran into a Scorpion Death Drop and Sting got the win.

Post match, Sting’s sons hop the rail and celebrate with their father on the apron, as Starks is looking very dejected. Taz asks what this means, as Sting is set to retire next month as confetti rains down until Matthew & Nicholas Jackson appear in white suits and matching baseball bats. The Young Bucks laid out Sting, Allin and both of Sting’s sons, as Allin is split opened and the blood is all over The Bucks suits as they hit a BTE Trigger, which has been renamed to EVP Trigger. After more bat shots to the ribs of Sting, The Bucks stood tall, as commentary said no one came out to help since The Bucks are EVPs and they must fear for their jobs. The Bucks hold up the AEW Tag Team Titles in their blood covered suits to end the show. Excalibur told us The Bucks’ reputation is officially destroyed.

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with recaps from last week’s Dynamite & Collision main events before we go backstage to Renee Paquette standing by with MJF. Paquette asks about MJF finding three partners tonight despite having many enemies. MJF made a list of the AEW roster and wants to find three people who aren’t A-holes. MJF then throws it to the screen where Adam Cole is there at home, congratulating MJF on being the longest reigning AEW Champion and says he should entertain Samoa Joe’s offer to help him out. MJF left to find partners while Roderick Strong & The Kingdom rolled and walked in, saying it was rude of Max to walk off mid conversation. Strong asked if Cole agreed that MJF was The Devil, but Cole cut his feed off before he could answer. The screen quickly cut to The Devil before going to the opening video package. Excalibur welcomes us alongside Tony Schiavone and Taz as we go right to our first title match of the evening.

Orange Cassidy defeated Claudio Castagnoli to retain the AEW International Title

(This was the exact match you’d expect from these two, as Castagnoli showed off his superior strength, while Cassidy sold like crazy with glimpses of hope throughout. Finally, Cassidy was able to find a way to survive in a really great looking finish. Cassidy is hell bent on one thing during this reign as champion, that’s beating Jon Moxley. I have to wonder, HOOK put his hands on an official and we’re questioning suspension, while Moxley & Castagnoli just beat up security guards post match and that was fine.)

Cassidy tried a quick cazadora, but Castagnoli just used his power to slam Cassidy to the mat, using his size and strength early on. Cassidy floated over in the corner and tried a high cross body, but Castagnoli caught him into a tilt a whirl back breaker into a gut buster. Cassidy started playing mind games by constantly rolling to the floor away from Castagnoli, who grew angry, only to be posted by Cassidy. After a successful first dive, Castagnoli caught Cassidy’s second try and hit a press slam onto the railing. Wheeler Yuta & HOOK, who I didn’t even see out there to begin with, got too close to the action and referee Bryce ejected them both. Back inside, Cassidy briefly escaped a superplex, but Castagnoli literally just pulled Cassidy up by his head back in position and hit a stalling superplex into commercial break.

It was all Castagnoli during commercial as we see that HOOK & Wheeler Yuta had to be separated backstage, with HOOK shoving AEW official Pat Buck and Excalibur said this got HOOK ejected from the building and perhaps something more severe, like a suspension.

Back to the ring, Cassidy managed to hit his diving DDT to the floor, but his injured back did damage to himself as well. In the ring, Cassidy hit the Stundog Millionaire, but Castagnoli fought back with a Giant Swing and Sharpshooter, but Cassidy shifted his weight to escape, so Castagnoli transitioned into a cross face and Rings of Saturn. Cassidy rolled into a pin attempt for two, but Castagnoli clobbered him with an uppercut into the anvil elbows. Castagnoli wanted the Neutralizer, but Cassidy crumbled, as it was a ruse, trying another Stundog, but this time Castagnoli countered into a sleeper with a Giant Swing. Cassidy faded, but put his hands in his pockets and nearly got a pin out the corner. Orange Punch and Beach Break connected, but Castagnoli wisely rolled outside, beating the count at nine.

Little kicks from Cassidy ramp up as they continue into a PK. Cassidy missed an Orange Punch, but Castagnoli missed a Rainmaker, allowing Cassidy to hit a multi revolution Tornado DDT. Castagnoli nearly hit a pop up uppercut, but Cassidy stood on the chest and turned it into a hurricanrana pin with his hands in the pocket for the flash pin.

Cassidy got about 10 seconds to celebrate before Jon Moxley’s music hit and he came out from the crowd, joining Castagnoli in the ring. Cassidy hit the ring and tried to brawl with Moxley, who beat him down. Security guards hit the ring, but promptly got beaten up by Moxley & Castagnoli. Finally, Castagnoli had to pull Moxley off Cassidy and Moxley just stormed to the back.

-MJF is backstage and knocks on Kenny Omega’s dressing room, but Chris Jericho answers, smiles and slams the door. MJF goes to walk away, when Wardlow appears and chokes MJF against the wall saying MJF took everything from him, so he’ll take everything from MJF when he least expects it. Wardlow leaves as MJF slams down his clipboard and goes to walk off when The Acclaimed appear from around the corner and offer a scissor, but MJF storms off.

**********

-Jon Moxley is backstage talking about how Fenix kamikazied himself, injures Moxley and Orange Cassidy is there to pick up the pieces? Moxley showed Cassidy respect when no one else would, but like everyone else, Cassidy wrote off Moxley. Maybe this is about something else and Cassidy is just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but at Full Gear, he’s going to win his title back and beat Cassidy within an inch of his life.

Mogul Embassy (Brian Cage, Toa Liona & Bishop Kaun) defeated Hangman Adam Page & The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) to win the ROH Six Man Tag Titles

(This was a pretty quick match, with the storyline of Page & Strickland playing the biggest role, leaving The Bucks outnumbered and cost them as a result. The post match meltdown by Matt Jackson is an interesting development.)

Page was relentless on his attack on all the Embassy members early, as he has revenge on his mind following Swerve Strickland’s home invasion last week. The Bucks made the save when numbers became too much and hit a trifecta of slingshot dives on the floor. Back inside, Kaun was backed up into the corner and suffered locomotion charging strikes before Nick hit an assisted Swanton off the top, crushing Kaun into picture in picture.

The Embassy controlled during break, but Page made a comeback right when things returned, running wild on everyone. Right as Page was looking for a Buckshot, we hear Swerve Strickland on the stage with Prince Nana asking “Whose House?” and said last week, he was at Page’s house. Page tagged in Nick and sprinted after Strickland & Nana, as The Bucks are left in a handicap match, with Cage hitting a suplex from the apron in. The numbers were too much for Matt, who was flattened with a double spinebuster by Kaun & Liona. Nick was dropped with an assisted triple powerbomb and double face buster, as Kaun pinned Nick to regain the titles.

Backstage we see Page & Strickland brawling and had to be separated by a ton of security as we go back to the ring where The Bucks are left alone. Matt Jackson snaps and tears apart the ringside table, slamming a chair against the ring post before we go to break. This reminded me of when Chris Jericho started turning heel in WCW; thank goodness David Penzer wasn’t ringside tonight.

**********

-MJF is walking backstage again and comes to Samoa Joe’s dressing room, but passes, approaching Darby Allin’s dressing room (how many dressing room’s do AEW talent have?), but uses a sharpie to write Emo Bitch on the sign. MJF laughs and walks away when The Acclaimed & Daddy Ass have a sign saying Pick Us, which MJF ignores.

-The Rated R Superstar Adam Copeland is announced to the ring by Tony Schiavone, who Excalibur called The Rated PG-13 Superstar. Copeland put over Schiavone, which got a Tony chant, something that hilariously repulsed Taz. Copeland said last week, Sting, someone he respects massively, got in his face, with Darby Allin, the future of AEW. Before Copeland could give his answer to being their partner at Full Gear, Christian Cage, Luchasaurus & Nick Wayne interrupted.

Cage is going to retire Sting at Full Gear whether he likes it or not. We haven’t seen Allin around a lot lately since Cage dumped him on his arm at Wrestle Dream. Cage brought up Copeland’s neck problems and said if Copeland accepts the match, Cage would snap his neck, leaving his kids wipe the drool from his face as a former somebody. Cage told Luchasaurus & Wayne to give him a preview, as they hit the ring and Copeland got the upper hand, but when coming face to face with Cage, Copeland couldn’t pull the trigger. This allowed Luchasaurus to hit a lariat to the back of the neck and Wayne to hit Wayne’s World. Cage was about to give a Con-Chair-To when Sting made the save and wasted Wayne on the stage. Allin sprinted to the ring and beat down Cage as Luchasaurus was dropped by Copeland. Cage turned the tide on Allin, but turned around into a Spear by Copeland, who officially accepted being Allin & Sting’s partner for Full Gear.

-Nigel McGuinness is backstage with Tony Khan, who said his big announcement was following the success of All In, setting the all time indoor attendance record, next year’s show will be August 25th and tickets will go on sale one month from today, December 1st. Khan said you don’t have to wait until then, as McGuinness said if you want early access to tickets, you can go to Ticketmaster.co.uk/AEWWEMBLEY2024 to signup. I’m not sure this would qualify as a “big” announcement.

Kenny Omega & Chris Jericho defeated Matt Menard & Angelo Parker (w/Jake Hager)

(A quick win for The Golden Jets, with the most notable thing being Menard & Parker’s willingness to try and use the baseball bat to win by any means necessary, something that had to impress Don Callis. The post match was the bigger story, literally, as Jericho & Omega not only have backup in Kota Ibushi, but also Paul Wight. I never thought I’d write that sentence in my life.)

The Don Callis Family, with new member Kyle Fletcher, joined commentary for the match, as Menard & Parker bark at Jericho right away, saying Jericho didn’t know what he had in them and attacked. Jericho fought back and tagged Omega as they hit a double suplex and shoulder tackle into commercial break. Menard & Parker got the upper hand during picture in picture, but Omega made the hot tag to Jericho when things returned and he ran wild before Parker was locked in the Lion Tamer. Menard tried to cut it off, but suffered a springboard dropkick as a result. Omega connected on a Snap Dragon, as Hager jumped on the apron, but ate a V-Trigger and Omega dive for his troubles. With referee Aubrey’s attention turned, Menard clocked Jericho with the baseball bat, but Parker only got two. Menard wanted Parker to use the bat, but a slight delay, allowed Jericho to duck the shot and hit a Judas Effect for the win.

Post match, Callis and Family walked to the stage, saying he has to give Jericho & Omega credit for being cockroaches, hard to get rid of following Takeshita & Hobbs destroying both of them. Maybe this doesn’t get finished in a ring, but instead, on the streets. Callis challenges Jericho & Omega to a Street Fight in two weeks on Dynamite, calling them dummies. Omega said none of this was about winning matches, accepts the challenge, but makes it a 6 man street fight, saying Kota Ibushi will be by their side. Callis said they are still down a man, so Jericho brings up his friend who is bigger than Powerhouse Hobbs, as Hobbs isn’t a giant. Paul Wight walks out from backstage, in his gear and KO’s Kyle Fletcher with a punch as the rest of Callis’ Family retreats.

**********

-Renee Paquette is backstage in Kenny Omega & Chris Jericho’s dressing room, as Jericho was about to talk about the upcoming match we just learned about when Matt Jackson cut them off. Matt said he didn’t want to get overdramatic, as there’s been enough of that in their in the past, but asks what was the point of The Elite getting back together, when they don’t have each others’ backs? Matt said his biggest problem was who invited this prick Jericho into their locker room? Matt said he never forgot what Jericho did to The Bucks’ father years ago and said Jericho will screw Omega over just like Don Callis did.

Hikaru Shida defeated Willow Nightingale to retain the AEW Women’s Title

After some early signs of respect, Nightingale showed off her power with a shoulder tackle and low cross body for two. Shida fought back with a running knee in the corner, but was caught by Nightingale, who tried a standing switch, but was sent to the floor, where Shida met her with a diving cross body into commercial.

Shida got a two count off a suplex back from break, followed by a charging corner boot. Nightingale hit a cartwheel off a whip attempt; hit an enzugiri and high boot of her own. Nightingale connected on a perfect spinebuster, but both ladies started a slugfest with elbow strikes, something Nightingale won. Both traded dropkicks off the second rope, leading into a double down. Shida was cut off in the corner, as Nightingale wanted an Avalanche DVD, but Shida turned the tide and hit an Avalanche Falcon Arrow, but Nightingale exploded out at one.

After trading hard strikes, Nightingale connected on the Pounce and Death Valley Driver for a close near fall. Nightingale wanted a Doctor Bomb, but Shida turned it into a hurricanrana. Nightingale swung for the fences with a lariat, as Shida turned the pin into one of her own for two and hit a knee strike before nailing the Kitana for the victory.

Post match, Shida & Nightingale shook hands until Timeless Toni Storm made her entrance with the butler, Luther, who tried to present Shida with a shoe. Shida smacked it away and decked Storm with a running knee. Back in the ring, the lights went out and Julia Hart appeared behind Nightingale, offering a handshake, as Nightingale knew what was about to happen. Skye Blue ran to the ring and looked like she was about to turn on Nightingale when she misted Hart instead with blue mist. Hart bailed, furious, as the crowd didn’t react that much to Blue misting Hart, I think they were expecting Hart to turn heel.

-MJF is once again approached by The Acclaimed & Daddy Ass backstage, as Caster said it looks like they are all he has left and says to wear the gear they provided in a trash bag. MJF looked in the bag and refused, saying he had one option left, as he turns to Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, Satnam Singh and Jeff & Karen Jarrett. MJF gives a look to them and back to the trash bag to end the segment.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with Roderick Strong & The Kingdom, as Strong calls Adam Cole and was insulted MJF never even asked them for help. Cole said for Strong to shut the hell up and hung up.

Bullet Club Gold (Switchblade Jay White, Juice Robinson, Austin & Colten Gunn) defeated MJF, Daddy Ass & The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens)

(This was your standard multi man match, with the heels controlling a majority until the main babyface ran wild, with the numbers ultimately proving too much. White & MJF never touched until the finish and I’m surprised MJF took the pin, but this gives White more bragging rights heading into their PPV main event. Post match, the fans (and Caster mainly) got what they wanted and we got our quadruple scissor.)

MJF was decked head to toe with pink, including matching scarf, as he refused to high five Caster before the bell. The crowd chanted Happy Birthday to Daddy Ass, who is 60 years old today. MJF charged at White, who cowered in the corner, as it was Robinson & Bowens who started things off, but Daddy Ass & Austin made tags and father & son squared off. Austin tripped up his father and hit a little Shake, Rattle and Roll until Daddy Ass decked both of his sons and told all Bullet Club Gold to suck it. White made the tag and tried a chop battle with Daddy Ass, as White was chopped to the floor where BC Gold regrouped. The Acclaimed & Daddy Ass wanted MJF to scissor before commercial, but he refused once again.

BC Gold isolated Bowens during picture in picture until Colten missed a corner splash, as Bowens tagged and scissored Daddy Ass before hitting Scissor Me Timbers. MJF was about to join in the scissoring fun when The Acclaimed & Daddy Ass were pulled to the outside. Caster was picked apart until finally Bowens & Daddy Ass had enough and for some reason referee Bryce just held back MJF from joining in, so the numbers game were too much again.

Finally, Caster leapt for the MJF hot tag, as White ran for his life, as MJF was a house of fire on Robinson & The Gunns. The chase was on between MJF & White, as Austin & Colten tripped up MJF and tried for 3:10 to Yuma, which MJF fought out of with a DDT followed by a Kangaroo Kick. White snuck in from behind, hit a Blade Runner and pinned MJF clean or as clean as you’d call that.

Post match, The Gunns & Robinson brawled with The Acclaimed & Daddy Ass, leaving White alone, holding the title, waiting for MJF to get up. White charged and Caster took the bullet and title shot, as Bullet Club Gold bailed. MJF stared them down, as Daddy Ass & Bowens checked on Caster, who slowly raised his hand for a scissor. Daddy Ass screamed as MJF to scissor after everything they’ve done for Max, as we got our four way scissoring to end the show.

Tony Khan to make ‘important announcement’ on AEW Dynamite

Tony Khan has an announcement to make this Wednesday night.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Khan announced that he’ll have an “important announcement for AEW fans worldwide” on Dynamite this week. Khan wrote:

For many (of us), tomorrow is the start of the holiday season! I’ll have an important announcement for AEW fans worldwide TOMORROW November 1 on Wednesday Night Dynamite

Further details about what the announcement will be haven’t been provided.

When Khan hyped an “important announcement” this February, it ended up being the launch of AEW’s All Access reality show.

This April, the news that All In would be taking place at Wembley Stadium was hyped as a “very important announcement.”

Wednesday’s Dynamite is taking place from the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. There are three episodes of the show left before Full Gear.

Here’s the updated card for Wednesday’s Dynamite:

  • AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy defends against Claudio Castagnoli
  • MJF and three partners vs. Bullet Club Gold (Jay White, Juice Robinson & The Gunns)
  • Kenny Omega & Chris Jericho vs. Matt Menard & Angelo Parker
  • Tony Khan will make an important announcement

AEW Dynamite live results: CM Punk vs. Dustin Rhodes, Tony Khan announcement

CM Punk faces Dustin Rhodes on tonight’s AEW Dynamite in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The bout was set up on last week’s AEW programming where Rhodes delivered an impassioned promo about the Punk match being an unrealized dream match for him.

Tony Khan has promised a “huge announcement” on tonight’s show, believed to be a joint AEW-NJPW show in Chicago in June.

Darby Allin will face Andrade in a coffin match on tonight’s show. Wardlow will also take on The Butcher, acting as a hired hand for MJF to take out Wardlow.

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. will have her first match in more than a month tonight, facing Danielle Kamela in an Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament qualifying match.

Jungle Boy will take on Kyle O’Reilly in an Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament qualifier.

Hook will make his in-ring debut on Dynamite tonight. All of his career matches have taken place on Rampage or pay-per-view pre-show to this point.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

Show Report —

“Cult of Personality” opened the show.

CM Punk defeated Dustin Rhodes

They shook hands at the bell before exchanging holds for the first few minutes. Punk avoided a running crossbody, which sent Dustin crashing to the floor. Dustin’s left knee was hurt on the fall, so Punk targeted it with strikes through a commercial break. During commercial, Dustin came back with a lariat, but Punk swept out his leg on the apron.

The two competitors traded strikes in the ring. Dustin landed a back body drop before hitting a flurry of offense, concluding with ten punches in the corner. He then hit the Code Red for two. Punk wanted the GTS, but Dustin hit his drop down right hand and the snap powerslam for two.

Punk regained control with a chop block on Dustin’s injured knee. He locked on a Figure Four, which Dustin eventually fought out of with slaps, allowing him to reverse the pressure. Punk grabbed the ropes to force a break.

Dustin countered a diving clothesline with a right hand before hitting the Cross Rhodes and a straight piledriver for a near fall. Punk hit a roundhouse kick and went for the GTS, but his knee gave out, so he cradled Dustin for the win.

– After the match, AEW World Champion Hangman Page’s music played, and he faced off with Punk on the entrance ramp.

Earlier today, Wardlow arrived at the arena, where Mark Sterling informed him he’d be escorted directly to his locker, to the ring, and out of the arena. He also needed to be handcuffed. Finally, Sterling relayed a message from MJF: “Eat sh*t, pig.”

William Regal joined commentary.

Blackpool Combat Club (Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, & Wheeler YUTA) defeated Dante Martin, Lee Moriarty, & Brock Anderson

BCC went right after their opponents before the bell. YUTA locked Dante in a bow-and-arrow stretch. Danielson tagged in, but Dante was able to fight both him and Moxley off before bringing in Brock. Moxley took down Brock with a half-and-half suplex as BCC continued to dominate leading into the break.

Once back, a spinebuster from Brock allowed him to reach Moriarty for the hot tag. Moriarty took out all three opponents before landing a springboard forearm on Danielson. They traded slaps and uppercuts until Moriarty hit an arm-trap suplex for two. He locked on the Border City Stretch, but Danielson stood up out of it and hit a Regal-plex.

Dante tagged in and took out Danielson with a springboard dropkick before a second springboard dive landed on Moxley. He hesitated on the Nose-Dive, allowing Moxley to turn it into the Bulldog Choke. Moriarty tried to break it up, but Danielson kicked his head in as YUTA laid in elbows on Brock. The Paradigm Shift from Moxley finished Martin.

Adam Cole, the Young Bucks, and reDRagon were backstage with Cutler. O’Reilly said they all needed to turn it around as the “Undisputed Elite.” Tonight, O’Reilly will qualify for the Owen Hart Cup. Cole said they couldn’t be stopped as a team, so next week, there will be a U.E. Open Challenge for a ten-man tag.

A video promo furthered the Samoa Joe-Jay Lethal feud. Sonjay Dutt said Satnam Singh would carry on the legacy of the entire country of India. Joe said he was inevitable.

AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door supershow announcement

Tony Khan was introduced by Tony Schiavone for his “huge announcement.” Khan brought out Takami Ohbari, the president of New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Adam Cole interrupted on the big screen. He said he was the one who deserved to make this announcement: Forbidden Door, an AEW/NJPW supershow at the United Center in Chicago. He then announced that he would face Tomohiro Ishii in an Owen Hart Cup qualifying match before saying he had a friend who wanted to say “hello.”

Jay White’s music played, and he emerged. It’s fitting that he’s here, as at the last major NJPW USA co-produced event, he “single-handedly sold out Madison Square Garden.” He said that for the Undisputed Elite and Bullet Club, it was still their era.

**********

Jade Cargill was backstage with Red Velvet, Kiera Hogan, and Mark Sterling. If Marina Shafir’s “the Problem,” then Cargill’s “the Problem Solver.”

**********

Before the match, MJF and Shawn Spears appeared up in the stands. MJF mocked Pittsburgh, and said since Wardlow’s a “nobody,” he’ll come out to no music. Wardlow emerged still handcuffed.

Wardlow defeated The Butcher

They traded big-man offense at the start. A shoulder tackle from Wardlow sent Butcher to the floor, where he produced a chair and drove Wardlow into the ring apron and the barricade. In the ring, Butcher hit a powerbomb, but Wardlow kicked out at one. Wardlow then hit the Powerbomb Symphony (four powerbombs this time) for the win.

– After the match, Wardlow was handcuffed again and led away from the ring.

**********

Eddie Kingston addressed Daniel Garcia, who he will face on Rampage. Their stablemates won’t be allowed in the arena. He then told Jericho that everything he does to Garcia will be done to him later on.

Owen Hart Foundation Cup qualifier: Kyle O’Reilly defeated Jungle Boy

O’Reilly defeated Jungle Boy 100% clean. It appeared to be a result of Jungle Boy showing excessive aggressiveness and confidence.

After a back-and-forth exchange, Jungle Boy took O’Reilly down with a dropkick. O’Reilly got the better of the following exchange and went for an armbar, but Jungle Boy had it scouted. O’Reilly hit three butterfly suplexes leading into a commercial.

Once back, Jungle Boy dumped O’Reilly over the top rope and landed a suicide dive followed by a comeback lariat on the floor. Back in the ring, O’Reilly targeted Jungle Boy’s spine before the latter landed another rebound lariat. Jungle Boy sent O’Reilly into the corner with an overhead throw, but O’Reilly came back and applied a wristlock on the top rope. Jungle Boy escaped and laid in strikes.

Jungle Boy was showing some aggression. He thought about the Snare Trap but took too long, allowing O’Reilly to avoid it. O’Reilly kicked out of a cradle and applied an ankle lock, but Jungle Boy escaped and locked on the Snare Trap, forcing O’Reilly to fight to reach the ropes.

O’Reilly landed a modified brainbuster and climbed the ropes, hitting a diving knee drop for the win.

– After the match, Christian Cage came out, and he and Jungle Boy talked things out.

**********

MJF was backstage with Shawn Spears. He repeated the refrain that he’s a “snake.” Spears produced an envelope with money, offering it to Jake “The Snake” Roberts, who walked up. Jake rambled for a while before Lance Archer slapped away the money, saying all he wanted to do was fight Wardlow.

**********

HOOK defeated Anthony Henry

This was HOOK’s Dynamite debut. HOOK picked Henry’s ankle and immediately went for a single-leg crab. He laid in strikes in the corner before hitting a variety of suplexes and throws. Tony Nese and Mark Sterling were shown at ringside. HOOK hit a sliding lariat and crossface strikes. Danhausen appeared and tried to… “curse”… HOOK but failed. HOOK locked in Redrum for the win.

– After the match, Danhausen said he had had it with HOOK. Now, they will fight. HOOK ignored it and walked back up the ramp.

**********

Frankie Kazarian was about to call out Sammy Guevara backstage, but Scorpio Sky interrupted. He said all of his accomplishments wouldn’t have been possible without Kazarian before asking Kazarian to wait for his TNT Title shot until after Sky won it back. Kazarian said he’d always have Sky’s back.

**********

A Thunder Rosa video promo aired. She said she’d continue to fight the best that AEW has to offer.

**********

Sammy Guevara/Scorpio Sky TNT Championship rematch announcement

Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti were in the ring. Guevara’s happy to be a three-time TNT champion, and to anyone who doesn’t like him and Conti? “Be mad.”

Scorpio Sky, Ethan Page, and Dan Lambert interrupted. They said nobody came to hear Guevara talk into a microphone, and the only reason they’re not attacking Guevara is that for Lambert, tonight’s all business. Lambert demanded Guevara give Sky his rematch.

Guevara said Sky could get his match if they gave Guevara and Conti the mixed tag match. Their TNT title match next week will be a ladder match.

**********

A House of Black video promo aired. Black addressed Fuego Del Sol and said “next week, the sun dies.”

**********

Baker was accompanied by Pat Freiermuth and Najee Harris, members of the hometown Pittsburgh Steelers.

Owen Hart Foundation Cup qualifier: Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. defeated Danielle Kamela

Kamela dominated early on through a commercial. She taunted with a Terrible Towel, allowing Baker to come back with a tackle, forearms, and a sling blade. Baker landed a superkick and a twisting neckbreaker followed by the curb stomp. Freiermuth handed Baker a Steelers glove and she applied the Lockjaw for the win.

– After the match, Baker said the AEW women’s division is a disaster without her. She ran down members of the division including Ruby Soho, Toni Storm, Jade Cargill, and the Baddies. Baker said she’d win the Owen Hart Foundation Cup.

Coffin Match: Darby Allin defeated Andrade El Ídolo (w/ A.F.O.)

Darby hit Andrade with his skateboard and kept the Blade at bay until being overwhelmed by the numbers advantage with an attack from Quen. Andrade tossed Darby out into the ringside area. Quen ripped up a sign held by a fan in a Sting mask, who subsequently unmasked as… Sting himself! Sting beat down both the Blade and Quen with a trash can.

The two sets of teams brawled for a while. Quen and Sting were on a set of raised stairs, where Quen hit Sting with a chair. Sting fired up and tossed Quen off the stairs before jumping off a balcony onto the pile in a ridiculous spot.

Once back, Andrade had Darby trapped behind a chair in the corner. Darby used the chair to trip up Andrade before hitting a Code Red. He went for a Coffin Drop to the floor, but Andrade reversed it into a German.

Andrade put Darby in the coffin, but the inside of the coffin lid was scattered with thumbtacks, making it difficult to grip. Andrade carried Darby up the ramp and hit a delayed vertical suplex. They jockeyed for position on the ramp, with Andrade suplexing Andrade onto a steel grate in another brutal spot.

Back at the coffin, Andrade tried to powerslam Darby into it, but Darby stunned him over the ropes and landed his missile suicide dive, sending Andrade into the coffin. Darby couldn’t close the coffin, however, and José the Assistant attacked. Darby dropped José onto the tack lid and slammed the coffin shut to win.

– After the match, the Hardys came out to celebrate with Darby and Sting.
