Cody Rhodes: We should call this the ‘Record Era’ of WWE

On Thanksgiving night, a new episode of The Tonight Show aired with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes appearing as a guest.

Rhodes was on the show to promote the return of Saturday Night’s Main Event, which streams live on both NBC and Peacock on December 14. Rhodes is defending his title against Kevin Owens that night.

When Jimmy Fallon brought up the success WWE is having right now, Rhodes said this should be called the “Record Era” because the company is breaking records left and right.

“We’re in this period of time where — there was the Attitude Era, there was the Ruthless Aggression Era. And now, we don’t even know what to call this era of WWE. I feel like we should call it the Record Era, because we’re just breaking records left and right. The new management team — Triple H, Nick Khan, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson — they’ve made it so easy for me,” Rhodes said. “I’ve been dubbed the quarterback because they just call the plays, I run the play, and everyone, hopefully, we all look good. So it’s a blessed time. Thank all of you [fans] so much.”

Rhodes previously said he likes the “Renaissance Era” as a name for this time period.

The Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York is hosting Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14. It was also the venue for the first-ever SNME in 1985. The classic series is now returning as a quarterly special.

Rhodes hyped the December 14 show by teasing that there “might be a few surprises here and there.”

The Rock reflects on WWE WrestleMania 40: ‘I had such a great time’

During an appearance on The Tonight Show, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reflected on returning to the WWE ring at WrestleMania 40.

“I had such a great time,” The Rock told Jimmy Fallon on Monday night. “With Cody [Rhodes], and Seth [Rollins], and Roman [Reigns] — and it was just wild. You know, I grew up in that world of pro wrestling. There’s nothing like when that music hits and the crowd goes crazy and you can connect.”

Fallon asked Rock if he feels like he’s back home when he returns to WWE.

“That’s a good way to put it,” he responded. “Because, you know, I grew up in the world of pro wrestling and I followed the careers of my grandfather and my dad. And my grandfather and my dad used to wrestle up here at the [Madison Square] Garden in the 70s. And here I come along, not trying to screw anything up with their legacy. Then all of a sudden, you know, the business has grown into what it’s grown into. TKO now owns WWE, and I have the honor of sitting on the board of TKO. So what a full-circle moment. It’s crazy, man.”

WrestleMania 40 was The Rock’s first extended in-ring action in more than a decade. He teamed with Reigns to defeat Rhodes & Rollins on night one of the event. Rhodes then defeated Reigns on night two to become Undisputed WWE Champion.

It’s uncertain whether The Rock will compete at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas next April. He briefly appeared at WWE’s Bad Blood PLE last month, teasing a match against either Rhodes, Reigns, or both of them in a triple threat.

The Rock was on The Tonight Show to promote the release of his new Christmas movie Red One, which debuts in theaters on November 15. Earlier this week, GQ named Rock their Entertainer of the Year for 2024.

Rock & Reigns to appear on The Tonight Show during WWE WrestleMania week

During WrestleMania week, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson & Roman Reigns are stopping by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

The Rock & Reigns will be guests on the Wednesday, April 3 episode of The Tonight Show. The appearance is happening just three days before The Rock & Reigns’ tag team match against Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40 night one.

That tag bout will determine the stipulation for Reigns and Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match at night two of WrestleMania. If Rhodes & Rollins win, The Bloodline are barred from ringside for the night two main event. But if The Rock & Reigns win, Reigns vs. Rhodes will be a Bloodline Rules match, meaning that anything goes.

At the end of Raw this week, The Rock attacked and bloodied Rhodes. He taunted Rhodes’ mother by smearing Rhodes’ blood on a custom “Mama Rhodes” weight belt.

The Rock & Reigns have also both been announced for the Monday, April 1 edition of WWE Raw from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. It’s Raw’s WrestleMania go-home show.

John Cena on WWE WrestleMania 40: ‘I’m free that day’

A John Cena appearance is looking more likely for WWE WrestleMania 40.

On Wednesday night, Cena joined Jimmy Fallon as a guest on The Tonight Show. Cena was asked about a recent Instagram post he made and if it’s teasing something involving Cena and The Rock for WrestleMania. Cena responded by initially hyping up the possibility before saying that he doesn’t know yet.

“People are talking. WrestleMania 40. They’re speculating that The Rock and I will be in the ring in Philadelphia for WrestleMania 40,” Cena said. “They’re going to keep talking until it happens, we don’t know yet.”

“That was not satisfactory,” Cena added after the audience groaned. “We just took the wind out of your sails. Do you want me to make a promise I can’t keep? You want me to write a check I can’t cash? Am I in the business of writing checks that my ass can’t cash? Is that what we’re doing here? Is that what type of outfit you’re running?”

Cena told Fallon that he knows when and where WrestleMania is taking place. Cena said he’s “free that day (April 6).”

“I mean, I’m free that day,” Cena said. “I’m just saying. I’m just saying to you guys out there. Now the energy’s coming back a little bit.”

Cena then made a “You Can’t See Me” joke.

“This is a great answer: Maybe you won’t see me there,” Cena joked. “Yes! We did it. We have dodged the question.”

Cena also teased a possible WrestleMania appearance during a Wednesday morning guest spot on ESPN First Take.

Dave Meltzer reported last week that, if Cena does appear at WrestleMania, it’s likely that he’ll do “something fun, short and memorable and with substance” rather than something that would be deemed a physical risk.

WrestleMania 40 is taking place from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7. A tag match with The Rock & Roman Reigns facing Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins is set to headline night one. Reigns vs. Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship will then main event night two.

Roman Reigns addresses The Rock/WWE WrestleMania rumors on ‘Tonight Show’

Roman Reigns addressed the rumors regarding a possible match with The Rock at this year’s WrestleMania.

On Friday’s edition of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Reigns was on to promote Saturday’s Royal Rumble event. Fallon asked Reigns about the speculation.

“There’s been a huge buzz on that for a long time now,” Reigns said. “But it’s really picked up in the last couple of years. I believe he just came out with a statement saying he’s not going to be ready in time, which that’s the kind of face everyone’s making, like, hold on, this guy trains every single day. He’s huge!”

Reigns noted that there’s a difference, however, between physically looking in shape and conditioning your body to take bumps ahead of a high profile main event match.

“That’s number one, Dwayne,” Reigns teased. “When you’re going up against Roman Reigns, you better get ready to fall down.”

Dave Meltzer reported in last week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that The Rock has indicated he would not be able to get his body ready in time for a match against Reigns at WrestleMania. Reigns will face Kevin Owens at Saturday’s Royal Rumble match for the WWE Universal Championship.

VIDEO: WWE’s Seth Rollins appears on ‘The Tonight Show’ with Jimmy Fallon

WWE’s Seth Rollins stopped by “The Tonight Show” on Wednesday for a brief St. Patrick’s Day-themed appearance.

Rollins appeared as part of an “Audience Suggestion Box” segment. After a question that asked host Jimmy Fallon to combine WWE and St. Patrick’s Day, Rollins attacked a leprechaun and gave it a stomp.

Rollins’ appearance on the show comes with WrestleMania 38 now being just over two weeks away. The two-night event is taking place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3.

This Monday’s Raw featured a show-long storyline where Rollins was still left without a path to WrestleMania by the end of the night. His plan was to steal Kevin Owens’ idea and host a talk show with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin at WrestleMania, but Owens wasn’t happy with that. Owens later defeated Rollins in a match to determine who would get to have the WrestleMania talk show.

Unless something changes, Cody Rhodes is expected to be Rollins’ WrestleMania opponent.

VIDEO: WWE wrestlers appear on ‘The Tonight Show,’ ‘The Late Show’

To promote Survivor Series, WWE wrestlers made appearances on late night TV on Wednesday night.

Universal Champion Roman Reigns, who is facing WWE Champion Big E in a non-title champion vs. champion match at Survivor Series this Sunday, was a guest on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon last night. Reigns was asked if he would ever face Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

“I would, yes. I don’t know if he wants it,” Reigns said. “So that’s kind of something that we do in our family as far as sports entertainment, professional wrestling, WWE. This is our platform. This is our family business. I fought one of my cousins The Usos — Jey Uso — about a year ago. And where better to kind of solve problems than in the squared circle?”

Several WWE wrestlers also appeared on last night’s episode of “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert. Bianca Belair, The Miz, Seth Rollins, Raw Tag Team Champion Randy Orton, Big E, The Street Profits, and Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch took part in a “Just One Question” segment that aired on the show:

WWE’s Roman Reigns to appear on ‘The Tonight Show’

Ahead of Survivor Series, Universal Champion Roman Reigns is set to make an appearance on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon.

Reigns will promote Survivor Series when he appears as a guest on “The Tonight Show” this Wednesday. The appearance was advertised during tonight’s episode of Raw.

Actor, musician, producer, and writer Lin-Manuel Miranda will also be a guest on Wednesday’s episode of “The Tonight Show.” The show airs on NBC starting at 11:35 p.m. Eastern time.

At Survivor Series this Sunday, Reigns will face WWE Champion Big E in a non-title champion vs. champion match. The pay-per-view is taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Reigns and The Usos have laid out Big E’s New Day stablemates Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston on SmackDown over the past two weeks. As a message from Reigns, The Usos attacked Big E on Raw tonight. Big E & Riddle then faced The Usos in a tag match, but that ended in a disqualification when Seth Rollins got involved. The match then turned into a six-man tag where Rollins & The Usos defeated Big E, Riddle & Randy Orton.

Rollins pinned Riddle to win the six-man tag match. The Usos tried to attack Riddle after the match, but RK-Bro fought back and Orton laid out Jey Uso with an RKO. Big E then gave Jey the Big Ending, calling it his return message to Reigns.

John Cena addresses WWE return on ‘The Tonight Show’

On Wednesday night’s edition of “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon, John Cena addressed his impending return to WWE.

“Those rumors are true,” Cena said when questioned about rumors that he’ll be making his return to the ring. “I’ll definitely be back to the WWE. I just don’t know when.” Cena said he hasn’t had his last match and he can’t wait to have his next one.

When asked about posting a WWE logo on his Instagram account last month, Cena said he was feeling rather nostalgic about WWE but it didn’t mean that he’d be returning immediately.

Fallon and Cena then listed the upcoming film projects that Cena has coming out. “All these opportunities have led to more opportunities,” Cena said. “I’ve said before, once you do one of these things, the insurance doesn’t let you go wrestle on the weekends. So we’ll see what happens.”

Cena vs. Universal Champion Roman Reigns has been rumored to be the main event of this year’s SummerSlam. The pay-per-view is taking place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, August 21. Following next month’s Money in the Bank event, SummerSlam will be the second PPV in WWE’s return to touring.

In an interview with Chris Van Vliet earlier this month, Cena also confirmed that his WWE return was a matter of when and not a matter of if.

Cena hasn’t wrestled since his Firefly Fun House match against “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36 in 2020.

Cena was appearing on “The Tonight Show” to promote Friday’s release of “F9” (Fast & Furious 9). His full interview is available to watch below.

Cena also played a “30 Seconds To…” game with Fallon:

John Cena appears on ‘The Tonight Show,’ comments on WWE future

John Cena briefly addressed his in-ring future with WWE during his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night.

While speaking about his Elbow Grease children’s book series, Cena said his in-ring career isn’t over despite not being as active as it used to be: “With the Elbow Grease books, I have a very young audience in WWE, a lot of kids, a lot of families. And as my in-ring career is…it’s not as active — it’s not over, but it’s not as active — I wanted to continue to send messaging to those younger viewers, because so many times, parents will be like, ‘hey, your Never Give Up words have helped my son or daughter.'”

Cena hasn’t appeared on WWE television since his cinematic Firefly Fun House match against Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36 earlier this year. Prior to that, his most recent match was in January 2019.

it was announced this month that, in addition to being in the upcoming The Suicide Squad movie, Cena will play his Peacemaker character in a spinoff television series for HBO Max. Cena will also host and be an executive producer for TBS’ revival of the obstacle course series Wipeout.
