Cody Rhodes: We should call this the ‘Record Era’ of WWE

On Thanksgiving night, a new episode of The Tonight Show aired with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes appearing as a guest.

Rhodes was on the show to promote the return of Saturday Night’s Main Event, which streams live on both NBC and Peacock on December 14. Rhodes is defending his title against Kevin Owens that night.

When Jimmy Fallon brought up the success WWE is having right now, Rhodes said this should be called the “Record Era” because the company is breaking records left and right.

“We’re in this period of time where — there was the Attitude Era, there was the Ruthless Aggression Era. And now, we don’t even know what to call this era of WWE. I feel like we should call it the Record Era, because we’re just breaking records left and right. The new management team — Triple H, Nick Khan, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson — they’ve made it so easy for me,” Rhodes said. “I’ve been dubbed the quarterback because they just call the plays, I run the play, and everyone, hopefully, we all look good. So it’s a blessed time. Thank all of you [fans] so much.”

Rhodes previously said he likes the “Renaissance Era” as a name for this time period.

The Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York is hosting Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14. It was also the venue for the first-ever SNME in 1985. The classic series is now returning as a quarterly special.

Rhodes hyped the December 14 show by teasing that there “might be a few surprises here and there.”

The Rock & Roman Reigns promote WWE WrestleMania 40 on The Tonight Show

The promotional push for WWE WrestleMania 40 continued on Wednesday with The Rock & Roman Reigns appearing together on The Tonight Show.

Rock & Reigns are teaming against Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins in the main event of WrestleMania 40 night one this Saturday. The headlining match of night two will then see Reigns defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Rhodes.

Rhodes is attempting to finish his story by finally winning the WWE World Championship, a title that his father Dusty never held.

Speaking in-character, Reigns told Jimmy Fallon that neither he nor The Rock care about Rhodes’ story. At WrestleMania, they’re going to show everyone what the most powerful family in pro wrestling is all about.

“I think Cody’s reading the wrong book at this point. We don’t care about his story,” Reigns said. “It’s a funny thing because [The Rock] told me this a long time ago. In the wrestling business, there’s no call sheet, there’s no, you know, ‘He’s number one, he’s number two.’ So everybody on our roster believes they’re number one. So it’s just a shark tank, everybody’s trying to take each other out. This guy’s been chasing me for two years now. I’ve beaten him, we’ve crossed this bridge already, so this is where we close the book completely on this guy Cody Rhodes and we display what the most powerful family in pro wrestling is all about.”

This will be The Rock’s first real pro wrestling match in more than a decade. He told Fallon that he’s been working his ass off to prepare for WrestleMania.

“For those of you who may not know, Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins – they’re both badasses in their own right. I liken Cody Rhodes to Luke Skywalker, and I liken Seth Rollins to The Joker,” The Rock said. “So these guys are really unique, kind of crazy guys. But also, at the end of the day, as my cousin was saying, there can only be one. And when there is only one, you have The Tribal Chief and you have The Final Boss. And so I have the pleasure of getting back into the ring. I’ve been working my ass off. I’ve been working hard, [Reigns] has been working with me.”

Rock & Reigns to appear on The Tonight Show during WWE WrestleMania week

During WrestleMania week, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson & Roman Reigns are stopping by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

The Rock & Reigns will be guests on the Wednesday, April 3 episode of The Tonight Show. The appearance is happening just three days before The Rock & Reigns’ tag team match against Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40 night one.

That tag bout will determine the stipulation for Reigns and Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match at night two of WrestleMania. If Rhodes & Rollins win, The Bloodline are barred from ringside for the night two main event. But if The Rock & Reigns win, Reigns vs. Rhodes will be a Bloodline Rules match, meaning that anything goes.

At the end of Raw this week, The Rock attacked and bloodied Rhodes. He taunted Rhodes’ mother by smearing Rhodes’ blood on a custom “Mama Rhodes” weight belt.

The Rock & Reigns have also both been announced for the Monday, April 1 edition of WWE Raw from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. It’s Raw’s WrestleMania go-home show.

John Cena on WWE WrestleMania 40: ‘I’m free that day’

A John Cena appearance is looking more likely for WWE WrestleMania 40.

On Wednesday night, Cena joined Jimmy Fallon as a guest on The Tonight Show. Cena was asked about a recent Instagram post he made and if it’s teasing something involving Cena and The Rock for WrestleMania. Cena responded by initially hyping up the possibility before saying that he doesn’t know yet.

“People are talking. WrestleMania 40. They’re speculating that The Rock and I will be in the ring in Philadelphia for WrestleMania 40,” Cena said. “They’re going to keep talking until it happens, we don’t know yet.”

“That was not satisfactory,” Cena added after the audience groaned. “We just took the wind out of your sails. Do you want me to make a promise I can’t keep? You want me to write a check I can’t cash? Am I in the business of writing checks that my ass can’t cash? Is that what we’re doing here? Is that what type of outfit you’re running?”

Cena told Fallon that he knows when and where WrestleMania is taking place. Cena said he’s “free that day (April 6).”

“I mean, I’m free that day,” Cena said. “I’m just saying. I’m just saying to you guys out there. Now the energy’s coming back a little bit.”

Cena then made a “You Can’t See Me” joke.

“This is a great answer: Maybe you won’t see me there,” Cena joked. “Yes! We did it. We have dodged the question.”

Cena also teased a possible WrestleMania appearance during a Wednesday morning guest spot on ESPN First Take.

Dave Meltzer reported last week that, if Cena does appear at WrestleMania, it’s likely that he’ll do “something fun, short and memorable and with substance” rather than something that would be deemed a physical risk.

WrestleMania 40 is taking place from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7. A tag match with The Rock & Roman Reigns facing Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins is set to headline night one. Reigns vs. Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship will then main event night two.

VIDEO: WWE’s Seth Rollins appears on ‘The Tonight Show’ with Jimmy Fallon

WWE’s Seth Rollins stopped by “The Tonight Show” on Wednesday for a brief St. Patrick’s Day-themed appearance.

Rollins appeared as part of an “Audience Suggestion Box” segment. After a question that asked host Jimmy Fallon to combine WWE and St. Patrick’s Day, Rollins attacked a leprechaun and gave it a stomp.

Rollins’ appearance on the show comes with WrestleMania 38 now being just over two weeks away. The two-night event is taking place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3.

This Monday’s Raw featured a show-long storyline where Rollins was still left without a path to WrestleMania by the end of the night. His plan was to steal Kevin Owens’ idea and host a talk show with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin at WrestleMania, but Owens wasn’t happy with that. Owens later defeated Rollins in a match to determine who would get to have the WrestleMania talk show.

Unless something changes, Cody Rhodes is expected to be Rollins’ WrestleMania opponent.

John Cena appears on ‘The Tonight Show,’ comments on WWE future

John Cena briefly addressed his in-ring future with WWE during his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night.

While speaking about his Elbow Grease children’s book series, Cena said his in-ring career isn’t over despite not being as active as it used to be: “With the Elbow Grease books, I have a very young audience in WWE, a lot of kids, a lot of families. And as my in-ring career is…it’s not as active — it’s not over, but it’s not as active — I wanted to continue to send messaging to those younger viewers, because so many times, parents will be like, ‘hey, your Never Give Up words have helped my son or daughter.'”

Cena hasn’t appeared on WWE television since his cinematic Firefly Fun House match against Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36 earlier this year. Prior to that, his most recent match was in January 2019.

it was announced this month that, in addition to being in the upcoming The Suicide Squad movie, Cena will play his Peacemaker character in a spinoff television series for HBO Max. Cena will also host and be an executive producer for TBS’ revival of the obstacle course series Wipeout.
