Dante Martin has qualified for the TNT title ladder match at Forbidden Door.
Martin defeated Lee Moriarty on Saturday’s Collision to advance, winning after a meteora and a frog splash. After the match, Shane Taylor and Anthony Ogogo jumped Martin. Darius Martin and Action Andretti ran out for the save but were being outmatched when Lio Rush entered the ring, managing to take out all three men.
Earlier in the show, Rush walked up to Martin during an interview and greeted his former tag partner. He brought up he had a history with Andretti, and wished Dante luck in his qualifying match.
Jack Perry, Konosuke Takeshita, and Mark Briscoe have won qualifying matches in recent weeks for the ladder match at Forbidden Door, which will crown a new TNT Champion after Adam Copeland broke his leg following a title match at Double or Nothing.
Here is the updated lineup for Forbidden Door:
AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland defends against Will Ospreay
Ladder match for the vacant TNT Championship: Konosuke Takeshita vs. Mark Briscoe vs. Dante Martin vs. TBD
Title for title: TBS Champion Mercedes Mone vs. NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer
AEW Women’s Championship: Toni Storm defends against Mina Shirakawa
Perry defeated Dustin Rhodes with a running knee on AEW Dynamite to become the latest to qualify for the match that will determine a new TNT Champion at Forbidden Door on June 30 in New York.
After Adam Copeland injured his leg during his barbed wire steel cage match at Double or Nothing, The Elite stripped Copeland of the title and were prepared to put it on Perry, the only person in The Elite without a championship. However, Christopher Daniels came out and announced that he was the new interim EVP of AEW, and instead a ladder match would take place at Forbidden Door to determine a new champion.
Qualifying matches have taken place since then, with Konosuke Takeshita and Mark Briscoe advancing. Perry was seen watching Briscoe’s win and congratulated him, but said he would soon be TNT Champion.
Here is the updated lineup for Forbidden Door:
AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland defends against Will Ospreay
Ladder match for the vacant TNT Championship: Konosuke Takeshita vs. Mark Briscoe vs. Jack Perry vs. TBA
Title for title: TBS Champion Mercedes Mone vs. NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer
AEW Women’s Championship: Toni Storm defends against Mina Shirakawa
A TNT Championship qualifying match has been added to AEW Dynamite.
Dustin Rhodes will face Jack Perry after Rhodes called out Perry on this week’s AEW Collision. After defeating Johnny TV, Rhodes called out Perry, saying that he was excited to see Perry back in AEW until he beat up Tony Khan. He said that growing up Perry had a silver spoon in his mouth and that he was mediocre because he was a follower, not a leader. Rhodes then announced the match, telling Perry that he would destroy him.
The match was later announced as being a TNT Championship qualifying match, with the winner advancing to the ladder match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door to crown a new champion.
Perry scored the winning fall at AEW Double or Nothing, pinning Bryan Danielson. Since then, he has focused on capturing the TNT title, congratulating Mark Briscoe on his qualifier win on Dynamite but insisting he would be the next champion.
Here is the updated lineup for AEW Dynamite:
AEW International Champion Will Ospreay defends against Rey Fenix
TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defends against Zeuxis
TV Time with Chris Jericho featuring Private Party
TNT title qualifyting match: Dustin Rhodes vs. Jack Perry
A ladder match at Forbidden Door will determine the next TNT Champion.
On Wednesday, The Young Bucks and the rest of The Elite appeared on Dynamite and said that as a result of Adam Copeland’s broken tibia, he had to be stripped of the TNT Championship. They were about to award the title to Jack Perry when Christopher Daniels appeared and announced that Tony Khan has appointed him as an interim executive vice president. He rejected the idea of Perry being awarded the title and instead announced a series of qualifying matches will take place on AEW television that will lead to a ladder match at Forbidden Door that will determine the next TNT Champion.
Later, it was announced that Konosuke Takeshita will face Penta El Zero Miedo on Rampage this Friday in what will be the first TNT Championship eliminator match.
Copeland was injured at Double or Nothing this past weekend when he climbed to the top of a barbed wire steel cage and jumped off, landing feet first upon impact. He later revealed on X that he will need to undergo surgery to repair his tibia.
“My brain forgets what my body always seems to remember, a little late, is that I’m 50 and I need to make better choices,” he said in the video. “So, my body pulled the emergency brake on me the other night and I ended up fracturing my tibia, which is going to require surgery, don’t know the time frame on that yet.”
The TNT title situation will be addressed on AEW Dynamite tonight.
With current champion Adam Copeland having suffered a broken tibia at Double or Nothing on Sunday, AEW is advertising that EVPs Matthew and Nicholas Jackson will “Address the future of the TNT Championship” on Wednesday’s show.
AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, is scheduled for the KIA Forum in Los Angeles. Four matches are confirmed for the show including a Casino Gauntlet match to earn a world title match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door next month.
Here is the updated lineup for the show:
Swerve Strickland vs. Killswitch
IWGP World Heavyweight title eliminator: Jon Moxley vs. Rocky Romero
The debut of TV Time with Chris Jericho
Casino Gauntlet match to determine who challenges for the AEW World title at Forbidden Door
We will get answers from Kris Statlander and Stokely Hathaway
Saraya vs. Mariah May
Don Callis to offer Orange Cassidy a contract
Mercedes Mone TBS title celebration
The Young Bucks to address the TNT title situation
Saturday will see Kyle O’Reilly challenge Adam Copeland for the TNT title. After Copeland successfully defended the title against Brody King on Dynamite, all of House of Black attacked Copeland. O’Reilly, who previously promised he’d have Copeland’s back, came out for the save. Backstage, O’Reilly made it known to Copeland that he wanted a title match in his hometown of Edmonton, which Copeland agreed to.
Bryan Danielson will also return to the ring following his loss at AEW Dynasty, where he’ll team with Claudio Castagnoli against Top Flight. Danielson has been selling the effects of a Tiger Driver 91 that was taken during his Dynasty match against Will Ospreay.
Ospreay will also be in action on Saturday, taking on Lee Moriarty. Tommy Billington, the nephew of the Dynamite Kid, will make his AEW debut against Dax Harwood. Thunder Rosa will also take on Robyn Renegade, and the team of Brian Cage & The Gates of Agony will be in action.
Live coverage of Collision will begin at 8 pm ET on TBS. Rampage will air immediately after Collision at 10 pm ET.
We’re on the Superstation TBS, as the Blackpool Combat Club make their way to the ring to kick off another three-hour block of AEW television. Tony Schiavone & Nigel McGuinness were on the call.
Bryan Danielson & Claudio Castagnoli defeated Top Flight (Dante & Darius Martin)
A solid opener with a red-hot crowd. Danielson made his motivations for being in Anarchy in the Arena clear after the match, even if they were a bit generic.
The crowd in Vancouver was red hot in AEW’s debut in the market. The two teams traded offense until Castagnoli sent Darius into the ring post as we went to commercial. After the break, Darius drilled Danielson with a rope-walk Pele kick. Schiavone noted that this was the first time live pro wrestling had been on TBS on a Saturday since 2000.
Dante got the tag and ran wild on Castagnoli, hitting a frog splash for a nearfall. Castagnoli snatched Dante up into a giant swing. Castagnoli locked on the Sharpshooter before Darius broke it up with an outside-in facebuster. The match broke down into a Pier Six brawl, ending with Dante hitting the Nose Dive for a nearfall. Danielson caught Dante with the Busaiku Knee before kicking Darius into a Sudden Death uppercut from Claudio. Claudio pinned Darius for the win.
Danielson took the mic and gave kudos to Top Flight. He noted that the first Anarchy in the Arena match almost ended his career, but he would fight in it again because he loved AEW. He said The Elite started AEW but doesn’t represent what AEW stands for anymore. The Young Bucks wanted to run the company like Tony Khan did, but they weren’t even here like Tony Khan would be. Danielson said that he loved AEW, and would do anything to protect it.
We got a recap of The Embassy turning on Swerve Strickland from Dynamite, seemingly at the behest of Christian Cage.
Will Ospreay defeated Lee Moriarty (w/Shane Taylor)
Ospreay continues to be one of the most consistently great wrestlers I’ve ever seen. He brings a top-star energy to AEW that not many others can bring. He gave Moriarty some convincing nearfalls before ultimately putting him away with the Stormbreaker, another finisher in his arsenal. The post-match attack from Taylor could set up another television match before the PPV.
International Champion Roderick Strong joined commentary, with The Kingdom joining him. Moriarty and Ospreay traded monkey flips until Ospreay sent Moriarty to the floor with a headscissors. Ospreay followed Moriarty to the floor with a house show dive as we went to break.
After the break, Moriarty caught Ospreay with a neck crank. Ospreay came back with a handspring kick that Strong had to admit was impressive. Ospreay hit a springboard forearm and teased the Tiger Driver but couldn’t go through with it. That hesitation allowed Moriarty to hit a Falcon Arrow for a nearfall. Ospreay caught Moriarty with a Cheeky Nandos kick before pulling him out of the corner into a Blue Thunder Bomb for a nearfall.
Shane Taylor got in the way of an Oscutter and ate a superkick for his troubles. Ospreay went for another Oscutter but Moriarty caught him in an armbar. Ospreay rolled his way free before knocking Moriarty out with the Hidden Blade. Ospreay stared down Strong on commentary as he hit the Stormbreaker to score the win. This was the first time Ospreay has used the Stormbreaker since coming to AEW full-time.
After the match, Ospreay stared down Strong before Taylor jumped Ospreay from behind. Taylor knocked Ospreay out with the right hand, allowing Strong to stand tall over Ospreay.
Tony Schiavone announced that Willow Nightingale would be defending the TBS Championship against STARDOM’s Tam Nakano at STARDOM Flashing Champions next Saturday, ahead of the Double or Nothing match against Mercedes Mone. We cut to footage of Mone throwing out the first pitch at the Red Sox game earlier today. The Sox beat the Nationals 4-2, no doubt inspired by Mone’s stellar first pitch. Nightingale and Mone will have a contract signing on Dynamite.
Brian Cage & Gates Of Agony (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona) defeated Evan Rivers & The Voros Twins
Swerve looked like a boss here, getting his heat back from Dynamite by destroying both of the Gates of Agony.
These poor geeks got murdered by the former Embassy members, with Rivers getting pinned after the pendulum powerbomb. After the bodies were scraped out of the ring, Tony Schiavone asked Brian Cage why they jumped Swerve Strickland. Cage said that Swerve and Nana used them to get to the top, then left them hanging until they were needed. Cage said that they needed better leadership, leadership that the Young Bucks could give.
Swerve’s music hit, leading Cage to meet him on the ramp. But Swerve came out of the crowd with a chain and took out the Gates of Agony. Swerve took Cage out with a suplex before hitting the Swerve Stomp on both of the Gates. Swerve went to hang Kaun with the chain before Liona hit Swerve with a Pounce. Liona went for another Pounce, but Swerve caught him in the gut with a cinderblock. Swerve laid Liona across the ring stairs and hit a Con-Chair-To while staring down Cage on the ramp.
Swerve Strickland was in the back after the commercial. He tried to be the champion that he thought the company needed, but after being taken advantage of by Christian Cage, the EVPs, and the Mogul Embassy, he’s done being nice. He challenged Brian Cage to a singles match on Dynamite in his home state of Washington.
Daniel Garcia defeated KM
I like Garcia getting highlight wins, even if he’s not in a featured program at the moment.
Matt Menard joined commentary, as per usual with Garcia’s matches. KM overpowered Garcia to start and mocked Garcia’s dancing. Garcia quickly came back with strikes before powering KM up with a back suplex. Garcia got the quick submission win with a Dragon Sleeper.
We got a recap of the brawl to end Dynamite with The Elite and Team AEW after the announcement of Anarchy in the Arena.
Dax Harwood (w/ Cash Wheeler) defeated Tommy Billington
“Dynamite Kid” Tommy Billington came out to Rule, Brittania. He is the nephew of the original Dynamite Kid, Tom Billington. Harwood held serve early on, surviving some headbutts from Billington to keep control on the mat. After several shoulder block attempts, Billington finally took Harwood down with a shoulder block to send Harwood to the floor. Harwood dropped Billington with a back elbow after another exchange. Billington came back with a crossbody that sent both himself and Harwood crashing to the floor as the match went to a commercial.
After the break, Billington came off of the top rope with a crossbody to Harwood on the floor. Billington hit a missile dropkick as the crowd chanted Dynamite. No guys, this is Collision. Billington ran wild, hitting a top rope elbow for a nearfall. Harwood sent Billington to the top rope and hit a superplex. The two traded German suplexes before Harwood caught him with a Dragon suplex to shut him down.
Billington went for a pair of Owen Hart rollups, but Harwood caught him with a slingshot powerbomb to get the win. After the match, Harwood and Wheeler gave Billington props as the crowd gave him an ovation.
Tony Schiavone announced IWGP World Champion Jon Moxley & Bryan Danielson vs. Kyle Fletcher & Jeff Cobb for Dynamite, with Don Callis bringing the NJPW World TV Champion Cobb in to get revenge for Moxley injuring Powerhouse Hobbs on Dynamite a few weeks back.
In footage from after Dynamite, The Elite was backstage. Kazuchika Okada challenged Dax Harwood to a singles match and stormed off. Jack Perry noted that he was one of four Pillars of AEW last year, and he was miserable. He never felt more alive than he did now before promising that Team AEW was dead at Double or Nothing. The Young Bucks were getting started when Christopher Daniels passed by. Matthew got in his face for getting in their business during the brawl, telling him how he hired Daniels and how he should be thankful to him. Daniels got back in Matthew’s face, telling him that he earned this job and put his career to the side to help AEW grow. He threatened “Matt” to stay out of his face.
Christopher Daniels was backstage here, telling the Young Bucks that they forgot where they came from. Daniels was there on day one alongside the Bucks, Kenny Omega, and Tony Khan. Daniels didn’t appreciate being treated like a lackey and didn’t appreciate being punished by being put in the ring against the Young Bucks on Dynamite. Daniels chose Matt Sydal as his partner against the Bucks, noting that the punishment the Bucks wanted wasn’t the one they would get. It will be Christopher Daniels & Matt Sydal vs. The Young Bucks on Dynamite.
After a commercial, FTR was backstage. Harwood noted that he had never been in a match as dangerous as Anarchy in the Arena was, but he was set for it. Harwood warned Kazuchika Okada that he had never wrestled anyone as dangerous as him. Harwood vs. Okada is official for Dynamite.
Thunder Rosa defeated Robyn Renegade
Commentary noted that this was the three-year anniversary of Renegade’s debut in AEW, also coming against Thunder Rosa. Renegade got some offense in, but Rosa got the submission win with a sitting Cobra Clutch.
Johnny TV & Taya Valkyrie were backstage with Lexy Nair. After razzing the Canucks, Johnny challenged PAC to a match on tonight’s Rampage. Johnny and Taya made out to end the interview.
We got a video from Hook. Hook had his hesitations about Chris Jericho. Jericho’s actions have pissed him off, but they haven’t surprised him. Hook warned Jericho that he didn’t know what Hook could be, but Hook would be happy to show him.
The announcers ran down the Dynamite card, announcing that Kazuchika Okada would be defending the Continental Championship against Dax Harwood. It was also announced that Will Ospreay would go one-on-one with Shane Taylor on next week’s Collision, which will be back on TNT.
AEW TNT Title Match – Adam Copeland defeated Kyle O’Reilly to retain
Copeland is having the run of his lengthy career here in AEW. This match was an excellent main event to Collision, with the Vancouver crowd getting behind O’Reilly as the match progressed. They got me with the guillotine counter to the spear deep into the match, but Copeland ended up retaining. I will say that I’m not a fan of the story with the House of Black potentially making Copeland too violent, as these are professional fighters paid to fight. Be as violent as you need to be, this is your job.
Tony Schiavone noted that this would be the 100th TNT Title defense in the championship’s history. We got a pop at the bell from the Vancouver crowd for the two Canadians, with O’Reilly being from Vancouver as well. O’Reilly worked on Copeland’s arm to start before Copeland sent him into the post Bret Hart-style. Copeland worked on O’Reilly’s midsection with a gutbuster, setting him up for the spear. O’Reilly caught Copeland with a guillotine choke off of the ropes, but Copeland lifted him onto the ropes before shoving him off the apron to the floor.
After a commercial, Copeland knocked O’Reilly off the top rope. Copeland went for an elbow drop, but O’Reilly caught him in an armbar to a huge reaction. Copeland reversed the hold into the Grindhouse before O’Reilly got to the ropes. Copeland caught O’Reilly with a gutbuster, but O’Reilly hit a McGuinness-style pendulum lariat to take him down as well.
O’Reilly hit a flurry of strikes before transitioning a back suplex into a leg bar. There was a great camera shot here of Copeland straining for the ropes before eventually getting the bottom rope to break the hold. The two men fought to the apron where O’Reilly dropped Copeland shoulder-first. O’Reilly hit a King Kong Knee Drop for a nearfall before locking on a Fujiwara armbar. Copeland stood up and hit a reverse DDT.
The two traded shots, with O’Reilly jumping out of the way of a spear before rolling Copeland up for a nearfall. Copeland kept O’Reilly close so he could lock on a Bully Choke, but O’Reilly countered into a cross-arm breaker. Copeland stacked O’Reilly up to get out of it before hitting another gutbuster. Copeland brought O’Reilly to the top rope, but O’Reilly brought him down with an armbreaker.
Copeland booted his way free, with O’Reilly going down hard from it. Copeland loaded up the spear, but O’Reilly caught him in a guillotine. Copeland stood up, laid in a liver punch, and dropped O’Reilly with an Impaler DDT. Copeland finally scored with the spear to get the win and retain the TNT Title. After the cut to Rampage, Copeland and O’Reilly shook hands to a standing ovation. Copeland held on a little too long, causing O’Reilly to stare him down. The announcers wondered if everything was ok with Copeland, and whether his schedule or the run-ins with the House of Black were weighing on him.
Adam Copeland will defend the TNT Championship against Kyle O’Reilly on the Saturday, May 11 Collision episode. The match was announced during Wednesday’s Dynamite in a backstage promo segment with both Copeland and O’Reilly.
Copeland defended his TNT title on Dynamite against Brody King in a No DQ bout, but King attacked Copeland after the match. O’Reilly made the save, then challenged Copeland for the title in the promo.
After making his return on Dynamite in the show-closing segment, Bryan Danielson is also set for action on Saturday’s Collision.
Danielson was announced Wednesday as the fourth member of Team AEW for an Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing later this month, teaming with Eddie Kingston & FTR against The Elite. As the two sides brawled to close Dynamite, Tony Schiavone announced on commentary that Danielson will return to the ring for the first time since last month’s Dynasty pay-per-view on Saturday’s show.
AEW will have a three-hour block of programming on TBS on Saturday, May 11 with a two-hour Collision, followed by a live Rampage.
The announced lineup for Collision:
TNT Champion Adam Copeland defends against Kyle O’Reilly
A TNT title defense, two more matches, plus a face-to-face segment are set for the Wednesday, May 8 AEW Dynamite.
After successfully defending the TNT Championship against Buddy Matthews on this week’s episode, Adam Copeland will put the title on the line against Matthews’ House of Black stablemate Brody King on next week’s show.
As Best Friends continue to implode, Trent Beretta will go one-on-one with Orange Cassidy on the May 8 Dynamite. Cassidy & Beretta were involved in a pull-apart angle on this week’s Dynamite, with Cassidy blaming Beretta for causing career-ending injuries to Chuck Taylor in their parking lot fight on last week’s Rampage. Don Callis was also inserted into the situation as he appeared to counsel Cassidy during the segment.
Following a backstage promo from Saraya & Harley Cameron on Wednesday’s Rampage, Cameron issued a challenge to Mariah May for next week’s Dynamite. May lost to Serena Deeb on this week’s show.
Also announced for next week, AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland will go face-to-face with Christian Cage. Cage was revealed as Swerve’s Double or Nothing title challenger on this week’s Dynamite, with Christian and Killswitch laying out Swerve and Prince Nana.
The lineup for the Wednesday, May 8 AEW Dynamite so far:
TNT Champion Adam Copeland defends against Brody King
A TNT Championship match is set for the Wednesday, April 10 edition of AEW Dynamite.
As revealed during this week’s show, TNT Champion Adam Copeland will defend his title against Penta El Zero Miedo on the April 10 Dynamite.
Copeland has held the TNT title since defeating Christian Cage in an I Quit match for the belt on the March 20 Dynamite in Toronto.
In his first defense in his second reign as TNT Champion, Copeland defeated Matt Cardona in a “Cope Open” open challenge on last Saturday’s Collision episode.
Penta will be in action on this Saturday’s Collision in a tune-up match against Komander.
Although he has never held singles gold in AEW, Penta is a former Tag Team Champion in the promotion with brother Rey Fenix, and held the Trios Championship with Fenix & PAC.
The TNT title bout is the only match announced to this point for the Wednesday, April 10 Dynamite. The show will be held in Charleston, West Virginia at the Charleston Coliseum.
New TNT Champion Adam Copeland wants to defend his title against anyone who’s willing to step up to the challenge.
Copeland won the TNT title by defeating Christian Cage in an “I Quit” match in the main event of Dynamite this Wednesday. In a post-show video, Copeland said he’s ready to move on from Christian and face some new opponents. Copeland announced that he’ll be issuing a Cope Open challenge for the title when AEW Collision takes place from London, Ontario, Canada on Saturday, March 30.
EXCLUSIVE! After making Christian Cage utter the words, 'I QUIT', and capturing the TNT Title for the second time, we hear from the NEW TNT Champion Adam Copeland!@RatedRCope | #AEWDynamitepic.twitter.com/CUFyDk2GAj
That 40-year story, it’s closed. It’s time to move on. It’s time for me to face some different faces. It’s time for me to defend this TNT Championship. I want to be the type of champion who, if you think you deserve a shot, fine – step up. Right now, I’m sore, I’m a bloody mess, but I’ve got the TNT Championship.
So I tell you what, Collision, London – the Cope Open’s back. So anybody who wants to step up, feel free. There’s more at stake now too. There’s this TNT Championship. And I don’t plan on losing it anytime soon. So I wish you luck. And London, see you soon.
The Cope Open started this January during a storyline where Christian was refusing to face Copeland. Copeland had matches against young AEW talent in Griff Garrison, Lee Moriarty, and Dante Martin, along with a match against NJPW legend Minoru Suzuki.
Copeland said in his post-Dynamite interview that he feels like this is his first title reign since 2011. Copeland had a very brief reign as TNT Champion last December, winning the title from Christian at Worlds End and then immediately losing it back right after.
With no episode this weekend, March 30 is the next time that Collision will be airing. There’s no episode of the show this Saturday due to NCAA March Madness.
AEW Collision (Saturday, March 30) —
Adam Copeland issues a Cope Open challenge for the TNT Championship
AEW Tag Team title tournament quarterfinal match: FTR vs. The Infantry
The TNT Championship will be on the line as part of tonight’s AEW Dynamite from Toronto as Christian Cage defends against Adam Copeland in an I Quit match.
The AEW Continental Championship will also be on the line as Eddie Kingston defends against Kazuchika Okada. Under Continental rules, all seconds will be banned from ringside and there will be no outside interference.
New free agent signing Mercedes Mone will speak on tonight’s show after debuting for the company on last week’s Big Business edition of Dynamite.
AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm & Mariah May will face Deonna Purrazzo & Thunder Rosa in a tag team contest.
After teaming against the Gates of Agony at Big Business, Chris Jericho & Hook will face each other this week in a one-on-one contest.
AEW head Tony Khan has stated that tonight’s show from the Coca-Cola Coliseum is sold out. Due to NCAA basketball coverage Friday, Dynamite will immediately be followed by a live AEW Rampage.
AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Adam Copeland & Christian Cage arriving to the arena ahead of their I Quit Match for the TNT Title. Kazuchika Okada also pulled up to the arena in a sports car, ready to challenge Eddie Kingston later tonight for the Continental Title. Excalibur welcoming us to the show and throws it right down to Tony Schiavone in the ring.
Mercedes Mone made her way to the ring to a massive ovation as Schiavone gives her the floor. Mone told Toronto to say hello to their new CEO, as she’s been on such a high since last week at Big Business, she’s missed all of this. Fans might not know, but this was all nearly taken away from her a year ago in a match against Willow Nightingale. She then threw it to a video package showcasing everything that she’s been up to over the past few years, from red carpets, runways and her run in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Footage of Mone getting injured and carried out of her match with Nightingale was shown. Mone said she was kicking butt all over the world, but then it was taken away from her. Mone said minor setbacks make for major comebacks. Mone’s mission is clear, she’s not here to lead a women’s evolution, she’s here for a global revolution and face the best in AEW and the globe. Mone brought up Julia Hart & Skye Blue attacking Nightingale last week, as they were messing with her unfinished business and anyone who does that, ends up bankrupt. There’s a price to pay when you mess with Mercedes Mone.
The lights went out and when they came back on, Julia Hart was on the ramp, with Skye Blue trying to attack from behind, but was laid out. Hart hit the ring, but was nearly taken out with the Mone Maker, only for Blue to make the save. Both ladies grabbed chairs from under the ring, but Willow Nightingale & Kris Statlander hit the ring with chairs of their own. After a staredown, the lights went out, Blue & Hart were gone and Nightingale was debating a chair shot on Mone, who turned around in time. Nightingale dropped the chair and Mone left, saying she has her eyes on Nightingale. Excalibur mentioned how Hart & Blue will face Nightingale & Statlander in a Street Fight on Rampage after Dynamite tonight.
-Alex Marvez is backstage trying to get a word with Kazuchika Okada & The Young Bucks, who approved of the respect Marvez put on Okada’s name, but next time, should do it in Japanese. Matthew talked about how handsome Okada is and if anyone rises to the occasion, it’s Okada. Under Continental Rules, they can’t be at ringside tonight, but they’ll be at the curtain giving him the best replays. Okada speaks in Japanese before telling Eddie Kingston he’s coming for his title. Matthew called Marvez a dumbass for not knowing what Okada said in Japanese and to study up so that doesn’t happen again next week.
Kazuchika Okada defeated Eddie Kingston to win the AEW Continental Title
(Quite the statement victory for Okada’s first singles match as an official AEW member, as this was a hard-hitting opening contest with the crowd doing dueling chants throughout. Kingston put up a great fight, but there was no way Okada was losing this early in his AEW run. The first challenger seems already set for Okada and one would assume that’d be happening at Dynasty.)
After an early lock up, Okada did his signature fake out strike in the ropes, but Kingston shrugged it off and lit Okada up with strikes. A clubbing lariat had Okada bail outside, with Kingston in chase, as Okada suckered him in back in the ring to take control. Both trade shoulder blocks, with Okada again going to the floor, this time dropping Kingston with a DDT. Matthew & Nicholas Jackson are shown backstage sitting next to Tony Khan, making sure to give an instant replay. Back inside, Okada is laughing and mocking Kingston, delivering a snap low dropkick, taking things to commercial.
Kingston fired back with an overhead suplex, corner machine gun chops, which were followed up by a snap German suplex and sliding forearm for two. Kingston went for a home run shot, but Okada delivered his picture-perfect dropkick. Air Raid Crash connected, but Kingston kicked out. Okada rolled through a top rope elbow attempt, but ran right into a Kingston spinning backfist for a near fall. Both traded loud forearms and chops, with Okada trying a discus lariat, but Kingston got the hands up and both men crumbled. Kingston mowed down Okada with a clothesline, lowered the straps, but Okada took referee Paul Turner to get an eye rake in on Kingston. Turner scolded Okada, as Kingston hit an enzugiri, but missed a backfist, an Okada delivered a Landslide before a Rainmaker connected for the three. The Young Bucks celebrate backstage and Tony Khan gives a nod before big pyro hits for Okada.
The party is short lived, as PAC wasted not time walking out to the stage and making his intentions known. He stares down Okada before heading to the back.
-Renee Paquette is backstage with Swerve Strickland & Prince Nana, who said last week, his intentions to attack Samoa Joe last week were due to Joe trying to embarrass him the previous week. Strickland has the steel chain with him and said he doesn’t have a problem choking anyone out either. Strickland felt inspired by Mike Tyson training for his next fight and wants a fight of his own, so issues an Open Challenge.
**********
-Renee Paquette is backstage with Kris Statlander, Stokely Hathaway & Willow Nightingale, who said she’s usually all smiles, but tonight, she’ll have been in more Street Fights than any other woman in AEW. Add Statlander by her side and a weapon in hand, she’ll be a completely different Willow. Statlander said tonight, it will be the end for Julia Hart & Skye Blue. Just then, Mercedes Mone walks in and Statlander thanks her for having Nightingale’s back last week. Mone thanks Statlander for having hers tonight as well, as both shake hands and Statlander walks off. Nightingale goes to talk, but Mone cuts her off and said she’s done enough. Mone walks off before Hathaway can shake her hand, but brings up to Nightingale how she’s already broken Mone’s ankle. Nightingale leaves and Hathaway just shrugs at the camera.
FTW Champion HOOK defeated Chris Jericho
(The first half of this match was all HOOK German suplexes. Despite being in Canada, as the match went on, the crowd got more and more behind HOOK and didn’t like when Jericho escaped REDRUM. The finish, however, gave HOOK his first actual pinfall win in AEW, as every victory has come via submission.)
Bell sounded and immediately HOOK hit an overhead suplex, with Jericho being checked on by referee Bryce. Jericho said he was ok and HOOK pounced with strikes before hitting another T-Bone suplex for two. HOOK went to charge in the corner and Jericho just wound up and leveled him with a right punch. HOOK responded by hitting multiple German suplexes, the third folding Jericho right on his head. This trend continued all throughout picture in picture and when things returned, Jericho took one and turned, landing right on his shoulder.
Jericho finally countered one, trying for the Walls of Jericho, but HOOK fought out. Jericho went to the top for an axe handle, but leapt right into another HOOK suplex. HOOK went for a home run lariat, but ran into a big boot and Lionsault for two. Both men got to their feet and Jericho tried an overhead throw, but HOOK didn’t rotate enough and landed awkwardly on his face. Jericho went to the corner to deliver punches, but HOOK countered into REDRUM, dragging Jericho to the mat. The crowd booed Jericho escaping, but loved when HOOK countered the Walls of Jericho into an inside cradle for the flash pin. Taz said this was HOOK’s first pinfall victory in AEW and it was a big one. Jericho showed respect post-match and gave a fist bump to HOOK.
-Adam Cole said he hates feeling disappointed and last week, Wardlow disappointed him in failing to defeat Samoa Joe last week. Cole corrected himself when saying he should be, no, Wardlow should be AEW World Champion, but couldn’t get the job done. So now, Wardlow’s job is to ensure the Undisputed Kingdom keeps the gold they already have and then maybe they’ll forgive him. Cole is doing this because he cares about Wardlow and wants him to reach his full potential, so don’t screw this up.
**********
-Chris Jericho is walking backstage when Renee Paquette approaching, asking if HOOK earned his respect? Jericho said HOOK lived up to what he was hoping for, as HOOK showed him that he’s a future World Champion. Jericho said next week, he has a proposition for HOOK.
Will Ospreay Addresses Bryan Danielson
Tony Schiavone introduced Will Ospreay to a massive ovation from the Toronto crowd. Ospreay said the last time he was there, he was a little bit of a naughty boy at Forbidden Door, so he apologizes for what he did back then. Ospreay said he’s here to deliver some Elite caliber wrestling, but in return, he’d like some Canadian maple syrup. Ospreay put over Bryan Danielson vs. Katsuyori Shibata last week and said that’s what professional wrestling truly is. Ospreay brought up how he couldn’t fit in Danielson’s shoes when he was in Japan, because they were too small. What Danielson did in Japan was great, but what Ospreay did was elevate pro wrestling, winning Best of the Super Juniors twice, Junior Title three times, NEVER Openweight and IWGP championships. Ospreay said he’ll prove he can walk in Danielson’s shoes in AEW and brings up Shibata, saying long time no see. Seven years ago, Shibata beat the piss out of him, but now he’s 30 years old, with two pugs, three cats, a kid, a Mrs., a mortgage to pay and a point to prove. Next week on Dynamite, Ospreay calls out Shibata and tells Danielson to sit at home and watch how a real Billy GOAT is all about. Tony Khan made it official, Shibata vs. Ospreay will take place next Wednesday. This was another fantastic promo from Ospreay.

Deonna Purrazzo & Thunder Rosa defeated AEW Women’s Champion Timeless Toni Storm & Mariah May (w/Luther)
(Most of this took place during commercial, but the story here was Rosa not only got a blind tag, she pinned the AEW Women’s Champion. The blind tag didn’t make Purrazzo very happy, so this story is just getting going and I wouldn’t be shocked if this win gets Rosa a title match at Dynasty.)
Purrazzo & Rosa attacked before the bell, as Rosa & Storm paired off on the floor and Purrazzo & May going at it in the ring. Purrazzo had an easy time dispatching of May, as Rosa launched off her partners back with a corner splash on Storm. Rosa sent Storm into the ropes before leaping a leg sweep by Luther, but it was enough for Storm to get in a cheap shot and gain control during commercial.
When things returned, Rosa fought off both May & Storm with a top rope cross body and made the hot tag to Purrazzo, who ran wild with a knee lift and leg sweep, before taking May’s head off with a big boot. Rosa made the blind tag and Purrazzo was not happy, as Storm tried to sneak in, but was dropped for her efforts. May was planted with a Rosa Death Valley Driver, as Storm hit a snap German into the corner. Storm waited for her close up and delivered Sweet Cheek Music, but Rosa countered a Storm Zero into a flash roll up for the win. Storm couldn’t believe, as Purrazzo wasn’t happy how Rosa swooped in and got the win.

Swerve Strickland (w/Prince Nana) defeated The Butcher
After a face off, Strickland delivered a headbutt and charging big boot. A leaping uppercut out of the corner connected, but Butcher fought back by zoning in on the shoulder. Strickland seemed to get turned inside out with a lariat, but no sold and just delivered a double stomp to the head. Strickland hit the House Call before going up top for the Swerve Stomp. Strickland wasn’t done, as he slowly applied a short arm scissor and Butcher tapped out. Excalibur said he wasn’t sure, but that could be Strickland’s first submission win in AEW.
Strickland took the microphone post-match and said before he met Samoa Joe, he had nothing but respect. As he got to know Joe, he’s stopped liking him to the point where he’s almost hating him. Every day he’s thinking about wrapping a chain around Joe’s neck and choking him out, but the chain he has isn’t big enough for Joe’s thick neck. Strickland will take out everyone in his path until Joe gives him what he wants.
Samoa Joe walks out and said what to do with someone like Strickland. Logic should dictate he should ignore Strickland, who he beat at Revolution. Strickland still believes the impossible is possible and he can box with a God. The problem with that belief is that the fans will start believing they can be a champion, too. That is, until Joe shows up, smashes you in the face an takes everything you have. Joe said what to do with Strickland is to give him exactly what he wants.
Joe goes to hit the ring when Don Callis walks out on stage to huge boos in his home country. Callis brings up how Strickland & Konosuke Takeshita have the same number of wins, so maybe Takeshita should show Strickland what it’s like to lose to the Don Callis Family. AEW isn’t Swerve’s House, it’s the Don Callis Family House. Strickland said if he had more time, he’d burn the Don Callis Family tree down to a crisp. Strickland accepts and said when he’s done with Takeshita, he’s coming for Joe. We’re officially getting Takeshita vs. Strickland next week.

Adam Copeland defeated Christian Cage in an I Quit Match to win the TNT Title
(This was the exact finish this feud needed, as you couldn’t have asked for a better ending, in Toronto, with Copeland standing tall. They added some great hockey references and finally had The Patriarchy getting theirs in the end. Cage had a great run as the deplorable heel champion, but I’m looking forward to the run Copeland has with the TNT Title.)
There are Holy Sh*t chants from the Toronto crowd before the match even began. Copeland avoided an early attack, looked for a Spear, but Cage bailed to the floor. Copeland was right after, as both spilled into the crowd and the penalty box, where Copeland ripped a Penguins jersey off a fan, put it on Cage and put a Maple Leafs jersey on himself. Both had a hockey fight, as Copeland pulled the Penguins jersey over Cage’s head and won the brawl heading to commercial.
During picture in picture, both fought to the women’s restroom briefly, but the camera didn’t go past the entrance. Both went back to the ring, as things returned from break and Copeland set a ladder bridge up and delivered a brutal sitout slam. Copeland placed an open ladder upside down in the ring and dropped Cage midsection first, as referee Bryce asked if he quit and Cage said no. Copeland set up a table against the barricade, but Cage leapfrogged a Spear, poked the eye and posted Copeland. With Copeland now busted open, Cage flew off the top rope and hit a cross body through the table. Back in the ring, Cage set a ladder up between the ropes and delivered a slingshot face first, with Copeland slowly saying he didn’t quit. Cage missed a Frog Splash, as Copeland applied a cross face, but Cage ripped at the head to break it up. Both slowly got to their feet and went for a Spear at the same time, as a double down took things to another break.
Copeland chased after Cage up the ramp, tried to deliver Snake Eyes against the entrance, but Cage put on the brakes. Right as things returned from break, Copeland slingshot Cage off of the ramp to the floor. Copeland brought out a hockey goal and draped Cage across it before scoring a goal with Cage. Stumbling down the ramp, Copeland had his back turned and Shayna Wayne appeared, hitting a low blow with a hockey stick. Cage broke the stick over Copeland’s back and continued the assault back in the ring. With the hockey stick drove in his throat, ref Bryce asked if Copeland quit but we couldn’t hear his response, so it was apparently no, as Cage let go and went for chairs, one being wrapped in barbed wire.
Cage wanted a Con-Chair-To with the barbed wire chair, but Copeland moved. Both tried a Killswitch on the chair, but spun out and Copeland got a crossface with the broken hockey stick. Copeland started to choke out Cage when Nick Wayne & Luchasaurus made the save. They held Copeland for Shayna, who slapped Copeland until Matt Menard & Daniel Garcia made the save. Copeland delivered an Impaler DDT on Luchasaurus onto the barbed wire chair, as he & Nick were sent to the floor. Copeland set up a ladder and hit a cross body from the ring to the floor, wiping out Luchasaurus & Nick, who were ultimately handcuffed to the corner. Shayna Wayne was surrounded before bailing, leaving Cage all alone with Copeland, Garcia & Copeland, who dropped Cage with a Spear.
Cage was also cuffed to the corner, as Copeland went for Spike. Copeland repeatedly kicked Cage low, as Copeland brought the spiked 2×4 and hit Cage low again (the camera briefly went black and picked back up, as Rampage officially began). Cage refused to quit until Copeland looked for a final shot to the forehead, but Cage quit before it happened. Garcia handed Copeland the TNT Title and confetti poured in the ring. Copeland flipped off Cage one final time as the fans sang his theme song to officially end the Dynamite portion of tonight.

Christian Cage is now a two-time TNT Champion following the events of Saturday’s Worlds End.
After sending Nick Wayne through a flaming table, Copeland pinned Christian Cage with the killswitch to win the TNT Championship for the first time. However, Killswitch came to the ring after the match and attacked Copeland, chokeslamming him through a chair. He then took the TNT title match contract he won earlier in the night and wanted to cash in. Christian Cage told Killswitch he wanted to cash it in instead. Killswitch refused until Cage whispered something in Killswitch’s ear. He then gave the contract to Cage, allowing Cage to cash in the contract and pin Copeland with a spear.
The former friends first met in a one-on-one match in AEW back in early December, when Cage retained the title thanks to interference from Nick Wayne’s mother, Shayna. Copeland then issued the challenge for the no disqualification match for Worlds End, which Cage accepted.
Killswitch has teased dissension between himself and Cage in recent weeks, as he was reluctant to accept Cage’s new name for himself.
The former Luchasaurus won a 20-man battle royale at Saturday’s Worlds End Zero Hour show to earn a shot at the TNT title “anytime, anywhere.”
Killswitch last eliminated Trent Beretta to win the battle royale, a match that also involved Danhausen, Lance Archer, Rocky Romero, The Butcher, The Blade, Action Andretti, Darius Martin, Christopher Daniels, Matt Menard, Bryan Keith, Kip Sabian, John Silver, Alex Reynolds, Angelo Parker, Lee Johnson, Johnny TV, Dalton Castle & Serpentico.
Killswitch is aligned with current TNT Champion Christian Cage along with Nick Wayne & Shayna Wayne in Cage’s The Patriarchy group. Prior to the battle royale at Worlds End, Killswitch had been out of action since defeating The Boys in a two-on-one match on a November edition of Collision.
Cage is set to defend the TNT title against Adam Copeland in a no-DQ match later in the Worlds End pay-per-view.
Three title matches have been added to AEW Worlds End.
Hook accepted a challenge from Wheeler Yuta where he will put his FTW Championship on the line in a FTW Rules match at Worlds End on December 30. Hook, in accepting the challenge, said that he would do it under his rules.
Christian Cage also accepted Adam Copeland’s challenge to a No Disqualification match for the TNT Championship at Worlds End. After Shayna Wayne explained why she helped Cage defeat Copeland earlier this month, Cage said he would accept Copeland’s challenge to a fight because to him, it’s not a challenge as he’s already beaten him.
It was also confirmed that TBS Champion Julia Hart will defend the title against Abadon, as the two have crossed paths in recent weeks. On Saturday’s Collision, Thunder Rosa and Abadon scored the win, defeating Hart and Skye Blue in a tag team match.
Here is the updated card for Worlds End on December 30:
AEW World Championship: MJF defends against Samoa Joe
AEW Women’s Championship: Toni Storm defends against Riho
TNT Championship, no DQ: Christian Cage defends against Adam Copeland
AEW Continental Classic finals
TBS Championship: Julia Hart defends against Abadon
FTW rules for FTW Championship: Hook defends against Wheeler Yuta
On Saturday’s Dynamite, Copeland said he has no excuses for losing his match to Christian Cage on Dynamite, saying he should have been prepared for every possible situation. He said that he realizes he misses carrying gold and wants to add to his championship pedigree. He challenged Cage to a no disqualification match at AEW Worlds End on December 30, promising to become the new TNT Champion.
Adam Copeland lays out a challenge to Christian Cage for the #AEW TNT Championship at #AEWWorldsEnd in a No Disqualification Match!
The two previously met on the December 6 edition of AEW Dynamite in Montreal. The finish of the match had Shayna Wayne, Nick Wayne’s mother, attack Copeland with the TNT Championship, allowing Cage to cover him for the win. Copeland had given Nick Wayne a conchairto in front of his mother on the November 22 edition of Dynamite.
Copeland’s newfound rivalry with Cage dates back to when Cage rejected Copeland’s offer to reunite their tag team, telling Copeland to “go f*** yourself”. This led to Copeland eventually agreeing to team with Darby Allin and Sting at AEW Full Gear last month, defeating Cage, Wayne, and the former Luchasaurus, now named Killswitch.
