The Rock, Dolph Ziggler appear via video at The Roast of Ric Flair

The Rock and Dolph Ziggler both appeared at Friday’s Roast of Ric Flair event.

During the show, video messages from both Rock and Ziggler were shown. Rock talked about his history with Flair, noting how his mother would sew Flair’s robes. He mentioned that he met him as a child and later, when attending an NWA convention, remembered who he was. He thanked Flair for being such a kind human being to him and his family, and mentioned how he would work for his grandmother in Hawaii.

Ziggler said he will never forget the times he and Flair had in Florida, shouted out Mean Gene Okerlund, and called Flair the greatest of all time, ending the message wearing Flair trunks.

Friday’s roast leads to Sunday’s Ric Flair’s Last Match event, which will take place at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. Flair will team with son-in-law Andrade El Idolo as they take on Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett. Wrestlers from AEW, MLW, AAA, Impact, and New Japan Pro Wrestling will be part of Sunday’s card, which will air on FITE TV.

Mike Tyson off The Roast of Ric Flair due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’

Mike Tyson won’t be participating in “The Roast of Ric Flair” after all.

Just one day after the boxing legend was announced for the event, Tyson’s representatives told TMZ Sports that Tyson won’t be appearing at The Roast of Ric Flair. Tyson is off the event due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

“Due to unforeseen circumstances Mike will not be participating in the roast,” their statement said.

TMZ Sports noted that Tyson’s representatives didn’t wish to elaborate further.

In addition to Flair and Tyson being friends, it was announced this March that the two were partnering together for Ric Flair cannabis products to be marketed by Tyson’s “Tyson 2.0” company.

The Roast of Ric Flair is taking place at Starrcast V in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday, July 29. The event will air live as a pay-per-view via Fite TV.

Diamond Dallas Page and Eric Bischoff are among those who will be roasting Flair.

Starrcast V will culminate with Flair’s “last match” being held in Nashville on Sunday, July 31.

‘The Roast of Ric Flair’ announced for Starrcast V

Another event involving Ric Flair has been confirmed for Starrcast V in Nashville.

It was announced today that “The Roast of Ric Flair” will take place at the Nashville Fairgrounds on Friday, July 29. The event will be available to watch live as a pay-per-view via Fite TV.

The Nashville Fairgrounds is also set to host what’s being promoted as Flair’s “last match” on Sunday, July 31. It’s expected that Flair will team with FTR against Ricky Steamboat & The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express in a six-man tag match.

“The last weekend in July is going to be Ric’s swan song in a professional wrestling ring, so what better way to send him off before his final match than giving him a proper roast,” Conrad Thompson said. “Ric’s career has transcended professional wrestling and made him a pop culture icon. You’ve seen his influence everywhere from sports to hip hop. He’s done it all, except get roasted by some of his dearest friends and the most talented comedians in the world. That all changes on July 29th.”

Thompson runs Starrcast and is also Flair’s son-in-law.

A roast of Flair was scheduled to take place at Starrcast II in May 2019, but the roast had to be canceled when Flair couldn’t attend the convention due to health issues he was dealing with.

Tickets to the roast and PPV pre-orders will go on sale this Friday at noon Eastern time.

Starrcast V is taking place in Nashville on the same weekend as WWE SummerSlam. The convention runs from July 29 through July 31.
