Cryptic Stardom video teases new arrival

At Stardom’s December 24 event, a cryptic video aired teasing the arrival of a new or returning wrestler.

The video showed an unidentified person sitting at a desk with several computer monitors. Because they were wearing a hood, the person in the video was never fully shown. Their identity remains unconfirmed, but most fan speculation is that Stardom is hyping the return of the former Dakota Kai.

Kai, who was released from her WWE contract in May, regularly streams herself playing video games on Twitch. Before joining WWE, she competed for Stardom from 2015-2016 and was a trios champion for the Japanese women’s promotion. Kai went by the name “Evie” back then.

After her WWE release, Kai took a break from wrestling to recharge her batteries. She’s now ready to get back into the ring and has already been announced for one 2026 indie date. She’ll be challenging Kris Statlander for Pro Wrestling Eve’s International Championship at Wrestle Queendom in London on March 8.

Former WWE NXT wrestler Stevie Turner (Bobbi Tyler) is among the other names that fans have speculated this Stardom video could be for. She played a streamer character for part of her WWE run and has also wrestled for Stardom in the past. Turner was the on-screen general manager of WWE Evolve prior to her release this October.

Turner, real name Lucy Bridge, posted a written statement to her social media profiles on Tuesday speaking to the variety of roles she played in WWE, the history she made, and what she is looking forward to next.

She writes:

I Wanted To Give It A Few Days To Process My Feelings And Deliver A Genuine Message;

I’m Overwhelmed With Love And I Am So So Bloody Proud Of All I Did As Stevie Turner. From Working In NXT UK In My Home Of London, To Leaving It All And Flying Across The World & Achieving A
Life Goal By Moving To NXT Orlando.

I Was 4D, A Streamer, Made History In The First Ever TNA/NXT Match And Became The Prime Minister Of Evolve. I Loved Every Second Of Everything I Did, And Despite Not Having The Simplest Journey, I’m Proud I Always Gave 100% To Everything Presented To Me. I Have No Regrets, No Loss Of Love – Just A Heart Full Of Gratitude And Wonder For The Future.

I’m Excited To Keep Working On Feature Film “Welcome To Paradise” With Crucible Films And Show What I Can Offer The World Of Voice Acting/ Acting. And Of Course, I’m Excited To Lace My Wrestling Boots Again.

My One Hope Is That In All I’ve Done, That I Would Have Made My Late Tag Partner Hana Kimura Proud, Because Without Her, I Would Have Never Had The Confidence To Push Further For My Dreams.
See You All Soon!

Turner was one of several NXT talents to be released last Friday including Wes Lee, and Lance Anoa’i. Other releases or non-renewals came from the WWE ID program, notably Kylie Rae and Zayda Steel.

Stevie Turner on WWE NXT release: ‘Can’t believe I’m gonna get to wrestle again’

Stevie Turner has commented further on her WWE release.

On social media Saturday, the now former NXT and Evolve star made note that she hadn’t wrestled in a while.

“Can’t believe I’m gonna get to wrestle again,” she wrote.

In recent months, she had been mostly in non-wrestling roles, serving as an assistant to NXT GM Ava alongside Robert Stone. She had also been making appearances in Evolve as the General Manager/Prime Minister of that brand. She hadn’t wrestled since February, when she and Lainey Reid lost to Sol Ruca and Zaria at a NXT house show.

Turner was among releases in NXT that took place on Friday. The other notable name was Wes Lee, who had been a former Tag Team Champion and North American Champion on the brand. Lance Anoa’i was the first to announce he had been released from his contract. All releases have a 30-day no compete clause.

In addition to the NXT releases, several ID talents announced that they had either asked for their release or were let go from their contracts, including Zayda Steel and Kylie Rae.

Update on recent WWE NXT and ID departures

An update is available on the recent WWE departures.

On Friday, Wes Lee, Stevie Turner, and several others were either released from the company or informed that their contracts will not be renewed.

On Saturday, Bryan Alvarez told his subscribers on X that these were not budget-related cuts, but rather decisions made to open spots for new hires if talent isn’t progressing or viewed as having main roster potential.

Alvarez wrote:

“WWE cuts were not budget related, they have over 130 people in developmental and hire more regularly. If you’re not progressing fast enough or they feel you don’t have what it takes for main roster, you’re out to make room for someone new. Possible more cuts coming next week.”

The other wrestlers departing the company are Drako Knox, Jamar Hampton, Jin Tala, Haze Jameson, Summer Sorrell, and Brayden “BJ” Ray. They join Kylie Rae, who announced last week that her WWE ID contract would not be renewed, and Zayda Steel, who confirmed she chose not to re-sign her WWE ID deal.

Lee is the most notable name among Friday’s releases. He is a former NXT North American and Tag Team Champion and had been featured as a key talent since signing with WWE in 2020. He had formed a stable with Tyriek Igwe and Tyson Dupont called High Ryze earlier in the year but hadn’t been featured recently.

Tala, Sorrell, Jameson, and Ray had all previously been featured on WWE LFG.

Releases are taking place in the WWE NXT & ID system.

Stevie Turner, Drako Knox, and Jamar Hampton announced their release from WWE on Friday. Zara Zakher, meanwhile, announced her contract with the WWE ID program had expired. This comes after Lance Anoa’i announced earlier in the day that he too had been released from the company. According to Bryan Alvarez, all talent will have 30-day no compete clauses.

Turner, the most notable of the names so far, had recently been seen on NXT television as an assistant to NXT GM Ava. She was also the General Manager of Evolve.

Knox had been in the system since 2023 and had been competing on Evolve and NXT house shows. Hampton had competed in WWE LFG and had also wrestled on Evolve. He made news this past summer when he posted messages on social media critical of those sharing tributes to Hulk Hogan, who was barred from WWE for a time after making racist statements in a leaked sex tape.

Zakher wrote that her ID contract had expired and would be taking a step back from wrestling.

In addition to Zakher, Zayda Steel and Kylie Rae also annouinced that they were no longer part of the ID program in recent days. Steel had asked for her release, while Rae said that her contract wasn’t renewed.

Grace came in and said she’d like to show both Turner and Roxanne Perez what she’s capable of and issued a challenge for next week, which Ava quickly made official.
