Io Shirai, Bianca Belair, and Kairi Sane will all be challenging for the NXT Women’s Championship at next month’s TakeOver special.
Shayna Baszler defending her NXT Women’s title against Shirai, Belair, and Sane in a fatal four-way match has been announced for TakeOver: New York. The event is taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on April 5, which is the Friday of WrestleMania week.
The match was announced after an angle on this week’s episode of NXT TV. Baszler interrupted Shirai and Belair’s number one contender’s match and caused it to end in a no contest.
Baszler was on commentary for the match and then left the announce table to attack both Shirai and Belair. Sane tried to make the save, but the angle ended with Baszler having choked out all three with the Kirifuda Clutch.
Baszler is a two-time NXT Women’s Champion. Her current reign began when she defeated Sane for the title at Evolution in October 2018. At TakeOver: Phoenix this January, Baszler retained her title by defeating Belair.
– Velveteen Dream cut a cellphone promo where he was in front of Prince’s Paisley Park.
– Jessamyn Duke (w/ Marina Shafir) defeated Candice LeRae
The crowd saw Shayna Baszler’s spade on the screen and popped, but then Duke and Shafir’s names came on the screen and they got quiet quick. It was mentioned that they are a part of the Four Horsewomen.
Duke is much bigger than LeRae. The match was pretty boring and Duke is really green, but she won with an impressive high kick after a distraction from Shafir.
– Bobby Fish defeated Humberto Carrillo
The crowd didn’t know who Carrillo was at the beginning, but his flips and dives got them on his side really quick. Fish won with a finishing sequence of a spear into the corner, knee lifts, and an exploder suplex in the corner after Carrillo missed a moonsault.
Carrillo got a standing ovation as he left the ring.
– A video package was shown of Kona Reeves riding the zip line at the Mall of America. He then cut a heel promo on the Minnesota Vikings.
– Dominik Dijakovic defeated Kona Reeves (w/ Dan Matha)
Dijakovic is huge and ripped. Matha interfered a lot and there were a few good near falls.
The finish was super hot. Matha introduced a chair and Reeves was about to hit Dijakovic with it, but the referee took it away as Reeves reared back. Dijakovic superkicked Matha off the apron, superkicked Reeves through the ropes, hit a running roll-over dive on both, rolled Reeves back into the ring, and hit a torture rack Death Valley Driver into a high knee for the win.
The loudest reaction so far was when Dijakovic got the pin. That was a lot of fun.
– Aleister Black defeated Johnny Gargano
There were dueling chants for both before the match. Gargano was definitely wrestling as a heel. These two were super polished and crisp, and it was amazing that we got this quality of wrestling at an NXT house show. This got the first “This is awesome” chants of the night.
Black won with Black Mass in the best match so far.
– NXT North American Champion Ricochet & Heavy Machinery (Otis Dozovic & Tucker Knight) defeated The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole & NXT Tag Team Champions Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong)
Dozovic and Knight were doing big man comedy spots early, with the crowd eating it up. Ricochet is absolutely incredible, no surprise. Undisputed Era got the heat on Ricochet forever. Dozovic got a huge reaction for a hot tag and was awesome.
Dozovic was cut off and then gave Ricochet the super hot tag — and he was awesome. Ricochet pinned Strong with a fireman’s carry Michinoku driver with one of the legs hooked.
This match was fine and had a lot of submissions. Sane hit her elbow drop, but Duke and Shafir came out and caused the disqualification by breaking up the pin.
LeRae came out to help Sane dispose of the Horsewomen. She hit a couple of nice dives.
– NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa defeated Velveteen Dream to retain his title
There were lots of pre-match shenanigans with Dream taking the belt from the referee and posing with it. They had a fun match with a lot of crowd interaction. At one point, Ciampa hit a White Noise from the second rope. They got a “This is awesome” chant.
Ciampa mocked Dream’s poses a lot. He looked to flip off the crowd after they did the Vikings “Skol” chant during the match. Both wrestlers kicked out of big moves, and Ciampa hit the draping DDT for the clean win.
Ciampa cut a great, emotional promo after the match. It looked like someone from WWE was recording it. Ciampa said NXT drew better this year than last year in St. Paul and said NXT was the “A show” and he was holding the most important title in sports entertainment.
Kairi Sane and Shayna Baszler will go at it once again at NXT TakeOver: WarGames, this time under a new stipulation.
Baszler, flanked by friends Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir, was being interviewed by Cathy Kelley. She brought up Sane possibly invoking her rematch clause, which Baszler didn’t seem fazed by. NXT GM William Regal then came came in, which caused Duke and Shafir to be on guard. Regal said that in fact Sane had in fact invoked her rematch clause, and this time it would be contested in a 2 out of 3 falls match at NXT TakeOver: WarGames.
Sane lost the title to Baszler at WWE Evolution last month after passing out from the kirifuda lock. The loss wasn’t without controversy as Duke and Shafir made their debut on television, attacking Sane and helping Baszler score the submission win.
NXT TakeOver: WarGames will take place on November 17 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
A new NXT women’s champion was crowned, a new contender for the Raw women’s championship was established and this year’s Mae Young Classic winner was crowned tonight at WWE Evolution.
In the battle royal, Nia Jax last eliminated Ember Moon to win a future title match. After throwing Zelina Vega to the outside on Tamina, Moon tried to eliminate Jax but to no avail, as Jax tree slammed her then eliminated Moon to win the match. After Ronda Rousey successfully defended the Raw women’s title at the end of the night, Jax was seen backstage watching Rousey celebrate on a nearby monitor.
The NXT women’s championship was the sole title to change hands tonight. The finish had Sane back body drop Baszler into a crowd of NXT women wrestlers, including Shayna Baszler’s friends Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke. Both got involved, with a second cheap shot by Duke allowing Baszler to get the submission win with the kirifuda clutch. With the win, Baszler becomes the first ever two time NXT women’s champion.
In the Mae Young Classic finals, Toni Storm defeated Io Shirai to win this year’s tournament. Shirai kicked out of the Storm zero (tiger bomb). Shirai went for a moonsault, but Storm got the knees up and hit a second Storm zero for the win.
– Johnny Gargano, Raul Mendoza & Dominik Dijakovic (w/ Dory Funk Jr.) defeated The Forgotten Sons (Wesley Blake, Steve Cutler & Jaxson Ryker)
Dijakovic (Donovan/Christopher Dijak) and Ryker (Gunner in TNA/Chad Lail) both recently got their WWE names. Funk usually appears at the NXT house shows in Ocala.
– Fabian Aichner defeated Marcel Barthel and Tony Nese in a triple threat match
– The Mighty (Shane Thorne & Nick Miller) defeated Mars Wang & Babatunde Aiyegbusi
– NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler defeated Candice LeRae to retain her title
The Big News: Killian Dain laid out Aleister Black to end the show in an effort to prove he’s the number one contender to NXT Champion Andrade “Cien” Almas.
The Medium News: Shayna Baszler avenged her loss in the finals of the Mae Young Classic, forcing Kairi Sane to tap out.
The Little Beaver-sized News: Baszler then promised to either take Ember Moon’s title or rip one of her limbs off the next time they wrestle.

Velveteen Dream defeated Tyler Bate
Bate ran wild early, but Dream used his superior size to gain the advantage on the first United Kingdom Champion. Bate hasn’t won much since losing the title — and this match didn’t change matters.
Bate made his comeback and began his trademark airplane spin, but Dream got out of it before Bate could really get going. Bate hit several hard European uppercuts until being sent into the corner. Upon rebounding back, he knocked heads with Dream. Bate was able to stop him on the top rope momentarily, but Dream dropped him groin-first on the ropes and then pinned him with a Purple Rainmaker.

Paul Ellering cut a promo regarding the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. He mentioned The Authors of Pain won the last tournament and this represents the road back to the NXT Tag Team titles. Akam and Rezar stepped in and said they will win.

Earlier this week, William Regal signed the documents officially terminating Johnny Gargano from NXT. Gargano will fulfill any of his obligations, including on house shows, but he’ll be done in a few weeks.
The referee of the match apologized for his mistake that led to Gargano losing. Gargano accepted his apology and signed the termination papers.

Adam Cole defeated Cezar Bononi
Before the match started, Cole took the mic and offered Bononi a spot in Undisputed Era. The crowd cheered him and encouraged Bononi to do it. While Bononi figured things out, Cole punched him in the face to start the bout.
Bononi looked good, including getting a near fall with a Michinoku Driver, but he got superkicked and pinned after a running knee to the back of his neck.
Cole put the boots to Bononi after the match.

The Street Profits did a video where they approached each other on the street and asked each other who would win the Dusty Classic. Shockingly, they both said The Street Profits would win.
**********
The brackets for the 2018 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic are as follows:
The Street Profits vs. Heavy Machinery
TM61 vs. The Authors of Pain in a rematch from the 2016 finals
Tino Sabbatelli & Riddick Moss vs SAnitY
Tyler Bate & Trent Seven vs. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch
There are only eight teams, as opposed to 16 in the first two Classics. TM61 vs. AOP will be next week.

Shayna Baszler defeated Kairi Sane
This was a rematch from the Mae Young Classic finals, which was won by Sane. They grappled for the early advantage until Sane ran face-first into Baszler’s knee, giving Baszler the advantage.
Baszler turned Sane’s arm every which way to set up her armbar, but Sane got out of it by rolling up Baszler for a two count. Sane hit the Interceptor Spear, which is where she rebounds off the ropes perpendicularly from her opponent. Baszler came back and went for a suplex, but Sane took her head off with a spinning back fist.
Sane went up top for the Insane Elbow, but Baszler hopped up and dropped Sane with a suplex that she turned into the rear naked choke! Sane had no choice but to tap out as Baszler picked up a huge win.
Baszler yelled at the announcers after the match, saying Ember Moon is a coward. If Moon ever accepts her challenge, she vows to either leave with Moon’s title or a limb.

The show ended with an appearance by the NXT Champion, El Idolo himself, Andrade “Cien” Almas. Zelina Vega called Almas the greatest champion in NXT history and “Mr. 4-0” since he beat Gargano four times. Vega wondered who cares about the respect of the fans. They care about money and power. She helped create Almas and that’s why he is now champion.
Almas talked about Gargano challenging him again and again and again and again and losing. He was in an exceptionally good mood. Almas took Johnny Wrestling and made him Johnny Jobless.
Vega wondered if Gargano is “Johnny Wrestling,” what does that make Almas? Almas finished by shouting that it makes him the NXT Champion.
As they walked up the ramp to leave, Aleister Black came out a side entrance to confront the champion. Before Black could say anything, SAnitY’s music hit and Killian Dain came out. Dain and Black stared each other down before brawling. Dain ducked the Black Mass and laid him out with The Divide. Almas and Vega went to the back laughing as the show ended.
So, that does it for this week! Who will be the next number one contender? Will we find out next week? Until then, remember to say your vitamins and take your prayers.
The Big News: Shayna Baszler once again dominated Ember Moon, but once again Moon left with the Women’s title. This time, however, Baszler won via disqualification when Kairi Sane ran in for the save as Baszler was about to permanently injure the champ.
The Medium News: Pete Dunne retained the United Kingdom Championship, beating Roderick Strong in an excellent match.
The Little Beaver-sized News: Aleister Black and Killian Dain are headed for a collision as both want a match with Andrade “Cien” Almas.

WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne defeated Roderick Strong to retain his title
They wrestled for 30 seconds and immediately went to commercial, which is amazingly early for the show. Dunne placed Strong’s fingers on the steps outside, but instead of stomping on them, he stomped on the elbow of Strong. He went for this a second time, but Strong moved, hoisted Dunne, and dropped him with a backbreaker on the ring steps.
Strong went for a superplex, but Dunne struck him in the face, dropping him to the floor. As Strong tried to get back in the ring, Dunne dove off the top with a stomp to Strong’s arm! Seconds later, however, Strong shook it off and gave a back suplex to Dunne on the ring apron, which is the hardest part of the ring.
Dunne used a Falcon Arrow into an armbar that Strong was able to get out of. Strong tried to use a backbreaker, but his arm gave out on him. Dunne got on a triangle choke, but when Strong couldn’t stack him up, he carried him to the middle rope and catapulted him throat-first into the top rope.
They traded their high-impact moves, with Dunne using an Ex-Plex and Strong using the Tiger Driver. Strong went for the Strong Hold, but Dunne wrenched his fingers and then retained the title with the Bitter End.
Excellent match to kick off the show.

A video package aired building up the Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Johnny Gargano NXT Championship match next week. It’s Almas’ title vs Gargano’s NXT career. They keep building up that Gargano can’t beat Almas, which could indicate a title change.
**********
Earlier today, Velveteen Dream was ambushed by reporters. He said he will beat No Way Jose next week and called out Tyler Bate.
**********
Aleister Black came out for a promo. I could swear they said he’d be in action. Anyway, Black said there is a devil on his back and that devil is driving him. That devil is the NXT Championship.
Before he could continue, he was cut off by SAnitY’s music. Killian Dain meandered out and told Black that the devil isn’t on his back, Dain is. Dain won’t stop until the NXT title belt is around his waist. People in the crowd made comments about how the belt probably wouldn’t fit around Dain. Anyway, Dain said he will put chaos in Black’s path.
Black said Dain crossed him and now must fade to black.
**********
TM61 defeated John Skyler & Andrew Duckworth
TM61 have one more sign than they used to in the crowd, but they got a lot weaker reaction coming out than they did for their return match a month ago. Skyler & Duckworth got brief heat on Shane Thorne, but that was set up for Nick Miller to make a quick comeback. They picked up the win with Greetings From Thunder Valley.

Shayna Baszler defeated NXT Women’s Champion Ember Moon by DQ
I really enjoyed their first match back at TakeOver: Philadelphia, where Baszler worked an armbar for five minutes. How will this compare?
Moon exploded at the bell and kept putting herself into situations where she almost got caught with an armbar, but she kept just getting out of it. Moon went for The Eclipse, but Baszler rolled out of the ring. Moon glared at her and instead hit a suicide dive. Unfortunately for the champ, Moon slammed her injured arm on the announce table.
Moon was now at the mercy of the merciless Baszler. Baszler used a double wristlock and began going for the armbar. Moon stacked her up like at TakeOver, but Baszler kicked out. No one reacted because I don’t think anyone bought it as a finish twice.
Moon went shoulder-first into the ring post and tumbled out of the ring, onto and down the ring steps. Baszler followed her outside the ring and ripped at Moon’s arm in the guardrails. After shoving the referee out of the way, Kairi Sane ran down and attacked Baszler for the disqualification.
Sane got the best of Baszler. Baszler turned to leave and then tried a surprise attack, but Sane was smart to it and knocked her down again. Baszler finally left and was announced as the winner while Moon sold the shoulder as death.
That does it for this week. Next week, it’s Almas vs Gargano part IV. Until then, remember to say your vitamins and take your prayers!
