Chris Jericho vs. Tomohiro Ishii ROH title match set for AEW Dynamite

After retaining at Full Gear, Chris Jericho already has his next ROH World Championship defense lined up.

Jericho will defend his ROH World Championship against NJPW’s Tomohiro Ishii on Dynamite this Wednesday (November 23). The match was announced during a backstage segment at Full Gear.

Jericho retained the ROH World title by defeating Claudio Castagnoli, Bryan Danielson, and Sammy Guevara in a four-way match at Full Gear. Later in the night, Orange Cassidy and Danhausen interrupted Jericho and Jake Hager during a backstage interview. Cassidy challenged Jericho to a title match on behalf of Ishii. Jericho accepted the challenge, bringing up that Ishii used to carry his bags and shine his shoes when Ishii was a young boy working for WAR in Japan.

The backstage segment also set up that Cassidy will be defending his AEW All-Atlantic Championship against Hager on Wednesday’s Dynamite.

This will be the first time that Jericho and Ishii have ever faced each other. It’s the fourth time Ishii has wrestled for AEW.

The match continues the storyline of Jericho wanting to desecrate ROH’s legacy and defeat former ROH champions. Ishii held the ROH Television Championship in 2016.

Wednesday’s Dynamite is the Thanksgiving Eve episode of the show. It’s being held at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.

Here’s what’s been announced for Dynamite:

  • ROH World Champion Chris Jericho defends against Tomohiro Ishii
  • AEW World title eliminator tournament finals: Ethan Page vs. Ricky Starks
  • AEW All-Atlantic Champion Orange Cassidy defends against Jake Hager
  • Match two in Death Triangle and The Elite’s best-of-seven series for the AEW Trios titles

Four-way match for ROH World Championship added to AEW Full Gear

A four-way for the ROH World Championship has been made for Full Gear later this month.

On Friday’s Rampage, Chris Jericho set up a four-way between himself, Claudio Castagnoli, Bryan Danielson, and Sammy Guevara.

After Danielson indicated he wanted another match against Jericho to take back the ROH World title on Dynamite, Jericho said he would face both Danielson and Castagnoli, who he defeated back in September to win the championship. He then said he would add Guevara to the match for good measure, and if it came down to himself and Guevara, Guevara would know what to do. Guevara seemed surprised by Jericho’s comments.

Later, Tony Schiavone tried to get a word with Guevara about Jericho’s comments. However, Guevara instead challenged Danielson to a 2 out of 3 falls match for Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Chris Jericho challenges Bryan Danielson to ROH title match for October 12 AEW Dynamite

ROH World Champion Chris Jericho has issued a challenge to Bryan Danielson for the October 12 AEW Dynamite.

After defeating Bandido and successfully defending the ROH title in the main event of Wednesday’s Dynamite, Jericho stated that he intended to desecrate Ring of Honor’s legacy, and defeat every former ROH champion, commentator, referee, and ring announcer. He issued the challenge to Danielson, then punctuated his segment by attacking Ring of Honor ring announcer Bobby Cruise.

The October 12 Dynamite will be held at the Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto, the company’s debut show in Canada. A Rampage taping will be held in the same building the next night.

Danielson and Jericho faced off at All Out on September 4, with Jericho coming away with the victory. Danielson won a rematch in the Grand Slam Tournament of Champions on Dynamite on September 14.

Jericho defeated Claudio Castagnoli to win the ROH World title for the first time at Dynamite Grand Slam at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City.

Chris Jericho wins ROH World title at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam

Chris Jericho is the Ring of Honor World Champion.

Jericho defeated Claudio Castagnoli to win the championship for the first time Wednesday night at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam. The finish had Jericho low blowing Castagnoli while the referee was distracted, allowing Jericho to connect with the Judas Effect to score the win. This ends Castagnoli’s reign with the title after 60 days, originally defeating Jonathan Gresham at Death Before Dishonor on July 23.

On last Friday’s Rampage, Castangoli came out and said that there would soon be two world champions in the Blackpool Combat Club, mentioning himself and the winner of Wednesday’s AEW World title match between Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley. Jericho, who was on commentary, called out Castagnoli, saying he wanted to get his “ocho”, or his eighth world title reign. Castagnoli accepted the challenge for next week.

Chris Jericho’s other world title runs include two WCW World title reigns, three reigns as World Heavyweight Champion, one reign as the WWE Undisputed Champion, and one reign as AEW World Champion.

As Castagnoli was delivering a promo on Rampage, Jericho interrupted and said that he had been a WWF, WWE, WCW, and AEW World Champion, and that he was looking for his eighth World title reign, and challenged Castagnoli. Castagnoli accepted, and the match was made official.

ROH World Championship match announced for AEW Battle of the Belts III

The ROH World Championship will be on the line at next week’s Battle of the Belts III.

It was announced Friday during Rampage that Claudio Castagnoli will defend the championship against Konosuke Takeshita at the event, which will air on August 6. The show will be taped on Friday, where AEW will hold a live edition of Rampage in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

On Friday’s Rampage, Castagnoli appeared following his ROH World Championship win at Death Before Dishonor last Saturday, defeating Jonathan Gresham. He introduced Wheeler Yuta, who eventually started arguing with Chris Jericho, who was doing commentary. A match between Yuta and Jericho was made for Wednesday’s Dynamite where if Yuta wins, he gets Jericho’s AEW World title match at Quake by the Lake on August 10.

The last Battle of the Belts was held on April 15. Sammy Guevara defeated Scorpio Sky to win the TNT title, Jonathan Gresham defeated Dalton Castle to retain the ROH World title, and Thunder Rosa defeated Nyla Rose to retain the AEW Women’s World title.

Jonathan Gresham crowned undisputed ROH Champion at Supercard of Honor

Jonathan Gresham defeated Bandido to become the undisputed ROH World Champion in the main event of Supercard of Honor.

Gresham pinned Bandido with a cradle to earn the undisputed title, then was immediately confronted by Jay Lethal. Sonjay Dutt entered to break the two up, but then joined Lethal in attacking Gresham. Lee Moriarty tried to save, but was taken down by Lethal and Dutt. Gresham and Moriarty were then saved by the former ROH World Champion Samoa Joe, making a surprise return to the promotion.

Joe’s signing to AEW was then announced by ROH and AEW owner Tony Khan on Twitter. Joe will make his AEW debut on Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Gresham officially won the ROH World title at December’s Final Battle pay-per-view, which turned out to be the final show under the old ROH regime. Bandido held the ROH title in the leadup to that event, but a positive COVID-19 test left him unable to defend the title at the show. The company then officially stripped him of the title, and Gresham defeated Lethal for the vacant title at Final Battle.

After never losing the title in the ring, Bandido defended a version of the ROH Championship at Terminus in January, but no longer has a claim to the title after Gresham’s win.

Lio Rush replaces Jonathan Gresham at The Wrld on GCW

Jonathan Gresham was replaced by Lio Rush on tonight’s The Wrld on GCW event.

Prior to the match, Christian said that things happen, and as a result Gresham wasn’t at tonight’s show. After saying he still wanted his ROH title shot in the future, he said that someone else was in the back that he had great matches with in GCW. This brought out Rush. Christian was eventually able to pick up the win with a 450 splash.

Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reported prior to the match that Gresham was unable to make it to the show due to medical protocols.

Rush originally was scheduled to be in a Grab the Brass ring ladder match that kicked off the show. However, he was replaced by G-Raver.

Gresham has defended the ROH World title across various promotions in the last month, including in his own Terminus promotion, the independent scene, and Impact Wrestling, where he successfully defended the title against Chris Sabin at Impact’s Hard to Kill pay-per-view event earlier this month.

Gresham vs. 2 Cold Scorpio ROH title match set for GCW Say You Will

An ROH World Championship match has been announced for GCW Say You Will.

Jonathan Gresham will defend the ROH title against 2 Cold Scorpio in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on Saturday, January 15. The show will stream live on FITE TV.

Scorpio, 56, has worked a number of dates for GCW this year, most recently in September. He defeated Effy at Highest In The Room on September 17, and also defeated Stallion Rogers at a joint GCW-BLP show on September 3. Scorpio was in action last weekend at a JCW show, losing to Joey Janela.

Already announced for Say You Will, Allie Katch will take on Kylie Rae, plus AJ Gray will be in action against PCO. Other talent announced for the show at this point include Jay Briscoe and Mark Briscoe, Ricky Morton, Bandido, Blake Christian and Dark Sheik.

Say You Will is GCW’s last stop before their The Wrld On GCW at a sold out Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on Sunday, January 23.

ROH unveils new look for World Championship belt

A new look for the Ring of Honor World Championship will be making its first televised appearance on tonight’s Final Battle pay-per-view.

ROH uploaded a video yesterday with Cody Rhodes unveiling the new title belt, with the storyline being that his nameplate isn’t on the belt yet and that the winner of tonight’s main event will be first to have their name put on the title. Cody will defend the championship against Dalton Castle at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City as ROH presents their last PPV of the year.

If Cody wins tonight and is still ROH World Champion heading into New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Tokyo Dome show, the title will be on the line when he faces Kota Ibushi on January 4th. If he’s not champion, Cody will still wrestle Ibushi in a non-title match at the Dome.
