AEW airing first-ever mixed tag team match on Dark

Tuesday’s edition of AEW Dark will feature the company’s first-ever mixed tag team match featuring Kenny Omega and women’s champion Riho against Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford.

The match was filmed on the recent Chris Jericho cruise, but it was unclear whether it would be made available for fans not on the cruise to see.

While the match is billed as a mixed tag, Dave Meltzer, who saw the match live on the ship, said it featured plenty of intergender wrestling between Sabian and Riho and Omega and Ford.

The tag was announced on Twitter in a skit where Sabian and Ford approached the Young Bucks and Omega asking for the match, giving a rationale that it was on international waters. This past summer following Fyter Fest, Tony Khan showed hesitancy in intergender wrestling in AEW when asked about it.

Dark will also feature Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy/Marko Stunt) vs. Sonny Kiss and Brandon Cutler, Hikaru Shida vs. Mel (Nightmare Collective), and Best Friends vs. Shawn Spears and Colin Delaney, who was making his promotional debut.

AEW announces their first-ever mixed tag match for Jericho Cruise

This year’s Chris Jericho cruise will see history made for AEW as they will hold their first-ever intergender tag team match.

Made in a BTE-style video posted on AEW’s Twitter account earlier this morning, Kenny Omega and AEW women’s champion Riho will face Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford.

In the clip seen below, Sabian and Ford come into Omega’s locker room where he’s hanging out with the Young Bucks. After putting down Riho, he pitches the match with an angle that the cruise is in international waters but it’s still for AEW. The Bucks give their vote and the match was made:

However, two things are unclear as of this writing. One is when the match is going to happen and the other is whether fans not on the cruise are going to be able to watch the match on AEW Dark, YouTube, or even a Dynamite segment.

Women’s title match official for NWA 70th Anniversary Show

After announcing that she’d be defending her title at the event, the NWA has revealed Jazz’s opponent for this month’s 70th Anniversary Show.

It will be Jazz vs. Penelope Ford for the NWA Women’s Championship in Nashville, Tennessee on October 21. Ford is an independent wrestler who notably took part in All In last month (where Cody Rhodes won the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship from Nick Aldis) as part of the Joey Janela vs. Hangman Page street fight.

Ford was announced as Jazz’s opponent at the end of a video where Aldis defeated Royce Isaacs for Championship Wrestling from Hollywood.

Aldis will challenge for Cody’s title in a two-out-of-three falls match in the main event of the 70th Anniversary Show, which will air live on Fite TV. There will also be an eight-wrestler tournament for the NWA National title, Tim Storm will face Peter Avalon, and Jax Dane & Crimson (w/ Road Warrior Animal) will issue an open challenge.

Joey Janela & Penelope Ford, Chelsea Green booked for All In

Three more wrestlers have been confirmed for the Bullet Club’s All In show.

They join Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Stephen Amell, Hangman Page, Marty Scurll, Tessa Blanchard, Penta El Zero M, Rey Fenix, Kazuchika Okada, and Deonna Purrazzo as names that have been announced for the show.

Janela is coming off his Spring Break II event with Game Changer Wrestling in New Orleans over WrestleMania weekend. He and Ford regularly team together in intergender tag matches, but their role for All In has yet to be revealed. Green departed Impact Wrestling (where she wrestled as Laurel Van Ness) in January.

Two more people will be confirmed for All In this Wednesday. A press conference for the show, which will include talent/match announcements and ticket information, is taking place at Pro Wrestling Tees’ store in Chicago on May 13th. The press conference will stream live on Facebook and Twitch.

The Sears Centre Arena in the Chicago area is set to host All In on September 1st.
