NXT UK TV taping spoilers: TakeOver card takes shape

NXT UK’s weekend of television tapings came to a close at the Bonus Arena in Hull on Saturday.

With UK TakeOver: Blackpool II on the horizon, here are the results from night two of the tapings:

– Andy Shepherd announced that NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool II will take place on Sunday, January 12. Tickets go on sale on Monday, November 18 at 10 a.m. GMT.

– Dark Match: The Hunt (Wild Boar & Primate) defeated Tyson T-Bone & Saxon Huxley

– WWE United Kingdom Champion WALTER promised Joe Coffey a title shot — as long as Gallus are willing to defend their NXT UK Tag Team titles against Imperium and Ilja Dragunov will face Alexander Wolfe in a no disqualification match.

Coffey obliged on behalf of Gallus, but he would not speak on Dragunov’s behalf. Dragunov then came out to accept WALTER’s challenge himself. He was then powerbombed through a table by Imperium.

– NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray defeated Isla Dawn in a non-title match

After the match, KLR name-dropped Piper Niven in a promo. Niven ran out to the ring alongside Toni Storm. Just as they were about to fight, KLR pushed Storm into Niven, causing them to stand off against each other.

Assistant general manager Sid Scala announced that KLR will defend her title against Storm and Niven in a triple threat match at TakeOver: Blackpool II.

– Trent Seven was set to face the debuting Michael May, but May was attacked by Eddie Dennis during his entrance.

– Ridge Holland defeated Jack Starz

Holland got a very loud reaction from his hometown crowd.

– NXT UK Tag Team title match: Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) vs. Imperium (Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner) ended in a no contest

The no-contest came as a result of the Grizzled Young Veterans stealing the title belts and brawling with Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster. It is unclear if this result means that Joe Coffey does not get a UK title shot at TakeOver.

– Johnny Saint and Sid Scala announced that the NXT UK Tag Team titles will be defended in a four-way ladder match at TakeOver. It will be Gallus vs. Imperium vs. The Grizzled Young Veterans vs. Andrews & Webster.

– Kenny Williams & Amir Jordan defeated Pretty Deadly (Sam Stoker & Lewis Howley)

This was Jordan’s return from injury. His last NXT UK match was in April.

– Trent Seven called out Eddie Dennis for his attack on Michael May. Dennis slowly made his way down to the ring and hit Seven with his microphone. “I’ll see you at TakeOver,” said Dennis.

– Jinny (w/ Jazzy Gabert) defeated Amale

Amale is the current wXw Women’s Champion and this was her NXT UK debut. Gabert attacked Amale after the match, but eventually stopped following Jinny’s orders and walked away.

– Tyler Bate defeated Noam Dar

Jordan Devlin came down to watch the match from ringside towards the end. He slid into the ring immediately after Bate won and stared him down while on all fours.

– Dave Mastiff defeated Kona Reeves

Reeves cut a long, arrogant promo before the match.

– Toni Storm said that Kay Lee Ray got in her head and put her in a very dark place, which is why she was nowhere to be seen after TakeOver: Cardiff. Storm said that she owed Niven an apology.

After Niven came out, Storm asked her to step aside and let her challenge Kay Lee Ray one-on-one at TakeOver, but Niven refused to let go of her opportunity. Storm then tried to grab Niven as she turned around, but she ate a vicious headbutt from Niven.

– Kassius Ohno defeated Ligero

Ohno won via submission and later said that despite being the Knockout Artist, he can still win purely by wrestling. He called himself the “greatest British wrestler alive.”

– Ashton Smith & Oliver Carter defeated The Outliers (Dorian Mak & Riddick Moss)

– Ilja Dragunov defeated Alexander Wolfe in a no DQ match

This was a very good main event that saw the use of kendo sticks, steel chairs, and a table. Imperium beat down Dragunov after until Gallus made the save.

– The show finished with Gallus wishing the crowd a Merry Christmas and handing out signed Christmas cards with WALTER as Santa Claus.

No tapings have been announced for between now and TakeOver: Blackpool II.

NXT UK TV taping spoilers: Imperium vs. Gallus & Dragunov

NXT UK kicked off two straight nights of television tapings at the Bonus Arena in Hull today. Here are the results from night one:

– The show began with Andy Shepherd announcing NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool II for 2020. The exact date of the event was not mentioned. This will be the second NXT UK TakeOver to emanate from the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool.

– Dark Match: Mark Andrews defeated Kassius Ohno

Andrews rolled Ohno up for the win. The crowd was energetic from the start.

– Trent Seven defeated Kona Reeves

Seven hit Reeves with the Birminghammer for the victory. After the match, the returning Eddie Dennis grabbed Seven’s hand and stared him down.

– A-Kid defeated Jack Starz

This was a very good technical showcase for both men.

– The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) cut an in-ring promo and demanded an NXT UK Tag Team title rematch from general manager Johnny Saint. They stated that if if hadn’t been for the stipulation at TakeOver: Cardiff, they would still be the champions.

– Ridge Holland defeated Oliver Carter

Despite his very aggressive nature, hometown favorite Holland had most of the crowd on his side. Ashton Smith helped Carter get back up after the match.

– Alexander Wolfe defeated Ilja Dragunov

Wolfe’s victory came as a result of Imperium’s interference. After the match, Imperium beat down Dragunov before Gallus made the save. As the brawl came to an end, WALTER and Joe Coffey had a small tug-of-war with the WWE United Kingdom Championship.

– Piper Niven defeated Jinny (w/ Jazzy Gabert)

Niven cut a promo after saying that she is coming for Kay Lee Ray’s NXT UK Women’s Championship. She was then blindsided by the champion, but Toni Storm returned to make the save. Niven and Storm stared each other down afterwards.

– Eddie Dennis defeated Dreiss Gordon

The returning Dennis got the win with the Next Stop Driver. Dreiss was very impressive and had a lot of fan support.

– Noam Dar defeated Ashton Smith

Dar got the pinfall victory with a Nova Roller.

– Toni Storm defeated Killer Kelly

Storm made quick work of Kelly and put her away with the Storm Zero. Kelly is still yet to have a televised victory in NXT UK.

Kay Lee Ray attacked Storm following the match, then Piper Niven ran out to save her. Niven offered Storm a handshake, but she just walked away.

– The Hunt (Primate & Wild Boar) defeated The Outliers (Riddick Moss & Dorian Mak)

– Jordan Devlin defeated A-Kid

Tyler Bate came out to watch the match at ringside. Devlin got the win with the Devlin Side suplex, with that putting an end to a hugely impressive match from both men.

– Joseph Conners defeated Ligero and Travis Banks in a triple threat match

Conners pinned Banks with the Don’t Look Down cradle DDT. After being attacked by Conners on last week’s TV, Ligero and Banks teamed together during the early stages here. Conners got busted open on the bridge of his nose near the end.

– Imperium (WALTER, Marcel Barthel, Fabian Aichner & Alexander Wolfe) vs. Gallus ( Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) & Ilja Dragunov ended in a double countout

WALTER cut a promo after the match stating that no one on the NXT UK roster is able to beat him, then Tyler Bate ran out and hit him with a lariat and the Tyler Driver 97. The show finished with Bate standing tall.

NXT UK TV taping spoilers: Tyler Bate vs. Kassius Ohno

– Dark match: Rhea Ripley defeated Nina Samuels

– Jack Starz defeated Saxon Huxley

– There was a segment where Imperium said they’re on top of NXT UK. This led to Gallus coming out and laughing at that notion.

– Travis Banks defeated Ligero

Joseph Conners interfered and then beat down Banks after the match. Conners called himself “TakeOver worthy.”

Jinny interfered on behalf of Gabert, but Rhea Ripley then evened the odds for Niven.

NXT UK TV taping spoilers: Piper Niven vs. Rhea Ripley

Results and recap: @DeiOwen

Prior to UK TakeOver: Cardiff getting underway, two matches were taped at the Motorpoint Arena for next week’s NXT UK television.

– Rhea Ripley defeated Piper Niven

The crowd were split 50/50 throughout the match. Ripley is still very aggressive but is more in-line with her presentation on NXT in North America. She won the match with her Riptide Powerbomb. This was a rematch of their first singles bout against each other. That match was won by Niven and aired in July.

Ripley confronting NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler aired on this past Wednesday’s NXT US episode.

– Kassius Ohno defeated Sid Scala

This was originally set up as being Ohno vs. Jack Gallagher, but Ohno ended up facing Scala with no explanation. This was Sid’s first match on NXT UK TV since losing to Jordan Devlin in August. Ohno won the match with a rolling elbow and pinned the NXT UK assistant general manager.

Both matches will air on the WWE Network this coming Wednesday.

NXT UK also has TV tapings at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff tomorrow with the following:

– South Wales Subculture (Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews) vs. Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake) for the NXT UK Tag Team Championship. This will be South Wales Subculture’s first defence of their newly-won titles.

– Tegan Nox will debut. Nox appeared in the crowd during TakeOver.

– Pete Dunne will be in action, likely in a dark match.

– Ohno will face Scala again, this time in a British Rounds match.

NXT UK TV taping spoilers: New number one contender decided

NXT UK was at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday to close out two straight nights of television tapings.

Dark match —

– Kenny Williams defeated BT Gunn

A long overdue debut on the brand for Gunn — albeit in dark match form. This was a good showing for both. They have much more to show but gave as good as they were offered here. Both were really over with the local crowd.

NXT UK TV taping spoilers —

– WALTER, Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel came out for a promo and called themselves “Imperium.” British Strong Style (Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate & Trent Seven) attacked them, which led to a six-man tag match later on.

– Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) defeated Team White Wolf (A-Kid & Carlos Romo)

– Kassius Ohno defeated Jack Gallagher

They had a very good technical match. It was longer than the usual NXT UK matches, with Ohno picking up the win with his big knockout elbow. The fans were trying to get behind “Jacky boy” throughout, but he succumbed to the knockout blow.

– NXT UK Women’s Champion Toni Storm defeated Nina Samuels to retain her title

This was a good match as well. Storm picked up the win with the Storm Driver. The crowd was solidly behind her for this one.

– Wild Boar & Primate defeated Saxon Huxley & Tyson T-Bone

There were a few “Jesus” chants aimed at Huxley. This was a good tag match and a well deserved win for Boar & Primate after their recent TV losses.

– Imperium (WWE United Kingdom Champion WALTER, Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel) defeated British Strong Style (Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate & Trent Seven)

Match of the night no doubt. All six gave a great showing — in the ring it couldn’t be touched all night and the crowd was red hot for all of the action. Seven had a few chants going for his hair alone.

WALTER dominated whenever he was involved, and Bate continued to shine whenever he made the hot tag. The finish came when Alexander Wolfe made his NXT UK debut and aligned himself with Imperium/WWE’s version of Ringkampf for the win.

– Kay Lee Ray defeated Kasey Owens

Good ovation for both given they are very familiar with the local scene. Kay Lee Ray looks to be getting pushed really hard and may be in line for a title shot in the future.

– Noam Dar defeated Mark Andrews

Great match — some reviews scored this tied for best of the night with the six-man tag from earlier.

This had similar stellar, but safer, action compared to Dar and Andrews’ bout in Coventry a few months ago. Dar picked up the win to give the home crowd a cheer. They played off the previous injury that plagued their last match. Hopefully more to come out of this.

– NXT UK Tag Team Champions Grizzled Young Veterans had a promo. They said they were going to have to defend their titles at the upcoming Download Festival.

– Jazzy Gabert & Jinny defeated Xia Brookside & Isla Dawn

Good pops again for the local Isla Dawn and continuing-to-improve Brookside. Jinny & Gabert picked up the win in a very decent tag match.

– Ilja Dragunov defeated Joseph Conners

– Travis Banks defeated Jordan Devlin, Joe Coffey, and Dave Mastiff in a fatal four-way match to become the number one contender to the WWE United Kingdom Championship

Great fatal four-way action with all involved right up to the finish. The crowd was behind Coffey with him being local, but they assumed Devlin would win to set up the big WALTER vs. Devlin match.

The finish for Banks seemed to come out of nowhere, but it was well-deserved given the outing all four competitors gave to close out a weekend of excellent action.

NXT UK TV taping spoilers: WALTER makes his WWE in-ring debut

Submitted by Stephen Lyon

NXT UK followed up on TakeOver with a set of television tapings at the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool, England on Sunday.

– There wasn’t much storyline development on the tapings and no backstage vignettes or promos were shown. There were some very good matches, and WALTER was over huge as one of the biggest babyfaces on the roster. He is being positioned as a babyface even though he’s stoic and no sells tons.

– Dark match: Luke Menzies defeated Flash Morgan Webster

Menzies was a heel, billed from Yorkshire, wore a flat cap, and brandished a wooden baton. He was super green and won with a powerslam.

First episode —

– WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne started the tapings with an in-ring promo. Gallus came out to confront him, with Joe Coffey claiming Dunne’s win at TakeOver was a fluke. WALTER came out to a huge reaction and all the fans sang his theme music. After a brief scuffle, WALTER cleared the ring of Mark Coffey while Dunne disposed of Wolfgang.

– Nina Samuels defeated Lana Austin

Samuels won with an Attitude Adjustment. They had a decent match. Austin got a big pop, as she’s a long-time wrestler based in the northwest and most in attendance knew of her.

– Kenny Williams & Amir Jordan defeated Tyson T-Bone & Saxon Huxley

Jordan hit a Swanton Bomb on Huxley for the win.

– Eddie Dennis defeated Jamie Ahmed

– Travis Banks vs. Jordan Devlin ended in a double countout

This was a great match until the finish. Devlin hit a Spanish fly on Banks off the apron to the floor, and again in the ring, which Banks kicked out of. After both tumbled to the outside, they were counted out. They then began brawling into the crowd before officials split them up.

Second episode —

– Dave Mastiff defeated Primate Jay Melrose

Mastiff won it with a cannonball in the corner.

– NXT UK Tag Team Champions Zack Gibson & James Drake came out for an in-ring promo. Gibson called their team the “Grizzled Young Veterans” on NXT UK TV for the first time.

Sid Scala came out and said he was searching the world for the best tag team competition for them. Scala mentioned that NXT UK would soon be taping TV in Phoenix, Arizona (at Royal Rumble Axxess in two weeks time) and that Gibson & Drake would soon face Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch in a match billed as “NXT vs. NXT UK.”

– WALTER defeated Jack Starz

WALTER destroyed Starz in a perfect squash match. He gave Starz a slam on the apron, tons of chops, and used a powerbomb finisher. There were huge fan reactions to his squash debut win.

– Jinny defeated Kasey Owens

– Moustache Mountain (Tyler Bate & Trent Seven) defeated The European Union (Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel)

Very good match between two great tag teams. It went about 12 minutes. Aichner & Barthel are fantastic as a pairing and worked so well together on various double-team moves.

Third episode —

– Ligero defeated Mark Andrews

Ligero scored the win with a jumping DDT off the second rope. That came after Andrews had used a top rope Shooting Star Press, only to land on Ligero’s raised knees. A very good babyface vs. babyface, athletic high spots match. They shook hands afterwards.

– Xia Brookside defeated Candy Floss

This was a battle of two 19-year-old babyfaces. Both are really talented and have big futures, especially Brookside.

After the match, Rhea Ripley ran in and destroyed both, including putting Brookside in a swinging Indian Deathlock. NXT Women’s Champion Toni Storm ran in for the save, but she accidentally headbutted Brookside after Ripley threw Brookside into her path. Ripley then gave Storm a pumphandle slam and left her laying.

– Joseph Conners defeated Wild Boar Mike HItchman

– Joe Coffey defeated Ashton Smith

Coffey won with a suplex. Decent match.

– WALTER defeated Mark Coffey

Super stiff match. They exchanged stiff as hell punches and chops, but WALTER largely no sold everything. WALTER won with a powerbomb.

The crowd was very lively and reacted well throughout the tapings, although they were noticeably tired for the final hour after two straight days at the Empress Ballroom.

NXT UK TV taping spoilers: Build to TakeOver Blackpool

Submitted by Stephen Lyon

NXT UK closed out their weekend of television tapings at the Olympia in Liverpool on Sunday and finished building to UK TakeOver: Blackpool.

– Primate defeated Jack Starz in a dark match

Primate won with a pop-up powerbomb.

– Toni Storm defeated Deonna Purrazzo

Very good 15-minute match. NXT UK Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley came out after the match for a staredown with Storm, continuing the build for Ripley defending against Storm at TakeOver: Blackpool on January 12.

– Wild Boar defeated Josh Morrell

This was a squash. Boar is a cult babyface and Morrell is a white meat babyface who was given a few hope spots.

– Dave Mastiff vs. Eddie Dennis ended in a double DQ

The finish came when both barged into the referee. They brawled afterwards, officials couldn’t split them up, and Johnny Saint came out and announced Mastiff vs. Dennis in a no DQ match for TakeOver: Blackpool.

– United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne and Joe Coffey had a contract signing for their title match at TakeOver: Blackpool. It was moderated by Saint and Sid Scala. Coffey spoke for a while and said he’d be the new champion. Dunne grabbed Coffey’s hand and snapped his fingers, then signed the contract and said he’d see him at TakeOver.

The rest of Gallus came out to cause a distraction, allowing Coffey to powerbomb Dunne through the table.

– Amir Jordan & Kenny Williams defeated Jamie Ahmed & Dan Moloney

Jordan and Williams acted like they couldn’t believe they’d won afterwards.

– Isla Dawn defeated Xia Brookside

Dawn won with a reversed cradle. This was a short match and the pair embraced afterwards.

– Gallus cut a promo about their match with British Strong Style in the main event of the tapings.

– Jordan Devlin defeated Damien Weir (Chief Deputy Dunne)

Devlin was about to do mic work after, but Travis Banks ran in and chased him away. Banks wanted to fight him, but Devlin headed to the back.

– Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) defeated Flash Morgan Webster & Mark Andrews in an NXT UK Tag Team title tournament semifinal match

Great match. Gibson and Drake were over big as heels, although I thought it was interesting that the fans didn’t do the “shoes off if you hate Gibson” thing on either night.

Gibson & Drake will face Tyler Bate & Trent Seven in the tournament finals at TakeOver: Blackpool.

– Ligero defeated Joseph Conners

Fun, fast-paced athletic match.

– Travis Banks defeated Tyson T-Bone

Devlin came out mid-match dressed like Banks, but Banks still won. The pair brawled afterwards.
