Jim Ross to call UK title match at NXT TakeOver: Chicago

Jim Ross will be joining Nigel McGuinness to call the United Kingdom Championship match at NXT TakeOver: Chicago on Saturday.

Ross announced the news on Twitter today. The match will feature Tyler Bate defending his title against Pete Dunne, which was set up at WWE’s tapings in Norwich, England earlier this month.

Those tapings will begin airing on Friday as WWE debuts its first United Kingdom special. Ross and McGuinness were previously announced as the commentary team for that show. In matches that will air on the special, Bate successfully defended his title against Mark Andrews and Dunne defeated Trent Seven in a number one contender’s match heading into TakeOver.

Ross returned to the WWE broadcast booth to call the Roman Reigns vs. Undertaker main event at WrestleMania 33 in April. He then revealed that he had signed a two-year deal to return to the company with a specific number of dates that he’s obligated to work.

UK title match added to NXT TakeOver: Chicago card

Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne will once again be facing off with the WWE United Kingdom Championship on the line.

It was announced at yesterday’s UK TV tapings in Norwich that there would be a UK title defense at NXT TakeOver: Chicago on May 20th. The participants for the match were then confirmed today, with Dunne set to challenge for Bate’s title.

Dunne defeated Trent Seven in a number one contender’s match and Bate successfully defended his title against Mark Andrews at today’s tapings. Bate previously defeated Dunne in the finals of WWE’s UK tournament to win the championship.

Bate and Dunne are stablemates as part of British Strong Style outside of WWE.

WWE also confirmed that the shows the company filmed in Norwich this weekend will be making their way to the Network later this month.

TakeOver: Chicago will take place at the Allstate Arena prior to the venue also hosting SmackDown’s Backlash pay-per-view the next night.
