WWE NXT Stand & Deliver notes: Matches announced for Tuesday, Joe Coffey

Here are notes from Saturday afternoon’s NXT Stand and Deliver.

Prior to the main event, NXT announced two matches for this coming Tuesday’s show. The first will have Odyssey Jones face Dijak. Another match will have Pretty Deadly square off against Tony D’Angelo and Stacks. The two teams fought with one another during Stand & Deliver, with Pretty Deadly making snide comments following D’Angelo and Stack’s loss in the three-way NXT Tag Team title match earlier in the show.

Joe Coffey, who had not been seen in NXT since Gallus were suspended from NXT in storyline last fall, returned to the brand at Stand & Deliver, accompanying his brother Mark and Wolfgang to the ring. Gallus ended up retaining the NXT Tag Team titles in a three-way match, defeating D’Angelo & Stacks and The Creed Brothers. Former UFC Champion Daniel Cormier was shown in the audience during this match.

A previously announced eight-person tag team match ended up being bumped to the pre-show. Chase U and Tyler Bate defeated The Schism. The finish had Duke Hudson, who teased joining The Schism, ended up swerving them by tearing off a t-shirt and pinning Jagger Reid to pick up the win for his team. Per the stipulations, Chase U remained in the hands of Andre Chase as a result.

Carmelo Hayes crowned NXT Champion at Stand & Deliver

Melo is the new top champion in NXT.

Saturday’s NXT Stand & Deliver event ended with Carmelo Hayes defeating Bron Breakker to win the NXT Championship. This is Hayes’ first reign with the title. He previously held the NXT North American Championship twice.

The finish of Breakker and Hayes’ match involved interference by Trick Williams. After being ejected from ringside earlier in the match, Williams reemerged and hit Breakker with the NXT Championship belt.

Hayes visually tapped out when Breakker had him in the Steiner Recliner, but the referee was down after a ref bump. Williams then ran in and hit Breakker with the title belt. Williams put Hayes in position to pin Breakker, but the referee was slow to make the count and Breakker was able to kick out. Hayes then countered a press slam attempt and hit Nothing But Net to win the NXT Championship.

Despite the interference, Breakker still showed respect to Hayes after the match. Breakker handed the NXT Championship to Hayes and raised his arm.

With Stand & Deliver being held in Los Angeles, Hayes wore Lakers-inspired gear that paid tribute to Kobe Bryant.

The loss ends Breakker’s NXT Championship reign just short of the one-year mark. It was his second time holding the title.

Indi Hartwell wins Women’s title at WWE NXT Stand & Deliver

Indi Hartwell is the NXT Women’s Champion.

Hartwell won the ladder match at Saturday’s NXT Stand & Deliver to win the championship for the first time. The finish saw Hartwell unsure of herself as she stared at the ladder. Suddenly, Dexter Lumis showed up and helped Hartwell climb up the ladder. Hartwell grabbed the title, becoming champion for the first time.

During the match, we also saw the return of Jacy Jayne. At one point, she pushed former tag team partner Gigi Dolin off the ladder, sending her out of the ring for the remainder of the match.

Roxanne Perez’s run with the NXT Women’s Championship ended after over 100 days, defeating Mandy Rose on the December 13, 2022 edition of NXT. In the weeks leading to Stand & Deliver, her status for the match had been in question after collapsing following retaining her title against Meiko Satomura at NXT Roadblock. Perez told Shawn Michaels in his office on Tuesday’s NXT that she was cleared. Michaels was hesitant on letting her compete, but eventually relented.

What will be by far the biggest money weekend in the history of WWE and pro wrestling in general is upon is with two days of WrestleMania, an NXT Stand & Deliver special, sellouts for Smackdown & The Hall of Fame as well as Raw at the Crypto.com in Los Angeles, and countless shows from promotions all over the world.

A number of WrestleMania records are guaranteed to be set including most tickets sold (adding up the two nights), most viewers watching (due to it being on Peacock which has grown greatly in subscribers over the past year), most merchandise sold (because from the merchandise standpoint the company is at its hottest period) and by far the most sponsorship revenue.

The two WrestleMania shows at SoFi Stadium will have two-hour pre-shows starting at 6 p.m. Eastern with an 8 p.m. main show. The first night will have seven matches and the second night will have six, unless something is added, due to the Bobby Lashley vs. Bray Wyatt match being canceled. There will no doubt be plenty of surprises. The show is also there to showcase the product and the fan enthusiasm for any prospective buyers.

Michaels initially suggested to Perez she vacate the title to take more time to recover. Perez instead made a plea to Michaels to put her in the ladder match. Michaels eventually relented.

Ava is set to make her in-ring debut at NXT Stand & Deliver on April 1.

She will team with Schism members The Dyad and Joe Gacy to take on the team of Chase U (Andre Chase, Thea Hail, and Duke Hudson). Control of the school will be on the line.

Tuesday’s show saw the two groups hold a debate, discussing their own philosophies in life. After the debate had ended, Chase issued a match for Stand & Deliver. Gacy initially rejected the match. However Duke Hudson, who seemed lethargic in defending the school during the debate, offered the school up as an incentive. Gacy agreed, setting up the match for next month.

Ava, who is the daughter of The Rock, has yet to compete in a match. She was signed to the WWE in 2020 and made her television debut last October, revealing herself as the newest member of The Schism.

Two advance to Women’s title match at WWE NXT Stand & Deliver

Two more women have qualified for the ladder match at NXT Stand & Deliver.

Tiffany Stratton was the first to qualify, defeating Indi Hartwell with the BME. Later in the show Lyra Valkyria qualified, defeating Ivy Nile with a roundhouse kick. With their wins, they now join Gigi Dolin and Zoey Stark for a chance at the Women’s Championship. The fifth participant has yet to be named.

The ladder match was announced on last week’s show after Shawn Michaels released a statement saying Roxanne Perez’s status was unclear after she fainted following her match against Meiko Satomura at NXT Roadblock, and as a result NXT may have to crown a new Women’s Champion.

“I wish I had better news, but the doctors are saying we’re no closer to finding out what happened to me at RoadBlock,” she wrote in a Twitter post on Tuesday. “I’m very frustrated, but I promise I’ll be back, stronger than ever, but I just don’t know when!”

Johnny Gargano vs. Grayson Waller set for WWE NXT Stand & Deliver

A match between Johnny Gargano and Grayson Waller has been made for NXT Stand & Deliver.

On Tuesday’s NXT, Waller confronted Shawn Micheals on his Grayson Waller Effect show. Michaels and Waller got into an argument, with Micheals becoming upset that Waller thought he was bigger than the brand. Waller issued a challenge to Micheals for Stand & Deliver. Micheals said as much as he would like to “whip his a**”, there was someone else that wanted to do it more. That brought out Gargano, who attacked Waller and sent him out of the ring.

Back in December of 2021, Gargano was in the ring saying goodbye to NXT as his contract was set to expire. After he finished the promo, he was attacked from behind by Waller. When Gargano returned to WWE in 2022, he was brought up to the main roster as a Raw superstar.

It was later announced on Tuesday’s NXT that Gargano would be on next week’s show. A North American Championship match was also announced, with Wes Lee defending the title against Axiom. Gallus will defend the NXT Tag Team titles against Pretty Deadly, and Dabba-Kato will face Apollo Crews.
