NXT Level Up results: Chase U vs. Javier Bernal & Myles Borne

This week’s NXT Level Up featured the debut of Sol Ruca, plus Chase U looking for its third straight win.

Ikemen Jiro defeated Quincy Elliott

This was a match of Level Up regulars. As goofy as this was, they both have a lot of charisma, which is more than a lot of the NXT roster can say.

The start of the match was the two trading hand signals and dances. Jiro struggled to get Elliott to the ground. Elliott turned around a body slam for the upper hand. Every offensive move by Elliott was followed by some kind of dance or gyration.

Jiro turned things around with a superkick and springboard moonsault. Elliott got a little too cocky in the corner with some hip thrusts and Jiro rolled him up for the win.

– Andre Chase, Thea Hail and Bodhi Hayward were backstage with Kelly Kincaid and talked about their recent trip to the UK. Apparently, Chase is getting knighted soon? Chase promised a teachable moment in the upcoming main event.

Kiana James defeated Sol Ruca

Ruca, a former Oregon athlete, was making her debut against James, the former Xtina Kay from AEW, who was coming off a win against Indi Hartwell last month.

The match started with some great back and forth between the two. Ruca has a great look and some good charisma. James locked on a bodyscissors that moved to a sleeper. Ruca fought out and showed some great athleticism with a shoulder tackle and dropkick, but James hit the wraparound DDT for the pin.

Chase U (Andre Chase & Bodhi Hayward) defeated Javier Bernal & Myles Borne

Borne started the match with some catch wrestling on Chase. They went back and forth until Bernal made his entrance with Hayward. Hayward looked great here as what he did was simple but good. Bernal and Chase both got the hot tag, but Chase ran wild and spelled out Chase U with some kicks and the crowd.

Bernal and Borne, who had never teamed before, went for a double team move and ran into each other. The Chase U team focused on Borne. When he went for the tag, Bernal just kinda walked away hurt instead of tagging in. This led to Chase and Hayward hitting the Flatliner for the finish.

During the finish, Bernal was stuck on the bottom rope trying to break up the pin. There was no one holding him back, so it looked very goofy.

This was Chase & Hayward’s third straight win on Level Up.

Final Thoughts:

This was fun and short, which is always good. Jiro and Elliott weren’t the best technically, but their charisma was enough to make it watchable. Ruca had a solid debut match and showed some great athleticism.

The main event was also a fun and short match that was straight to the point. Hayward has a ton of charisma and I could see him having a future in the company. However, I don’t think Bernal and Borne will be teaming up in the future.

Sol Ruca to debut on WWE NXT Level Up

A new member of the NXT women’s division is set to make her debut on Level Up,

Sol Ruca (real name Calyx Hampton) will have her first televised match for WWE on NXT Level Up this Friday night, facing Kiana James. Ruca was a former member of the Acrobatics & Tumbling team for the University of Oregon.

Ruca joined the WWE Performance Center this March. WWE wrote about her when she signed with the company:

Calyx Hampton is a 22-year-old former athlete from the University of Oregon having competed on the school’s Acrobatics & Tumbling team, earning NCATA Individual Event National Championship honors.

WWE filed a trademark for the name “Sol Ruca” this May. She had her first match at an NXT house show in Florida last month.

NXT Level Up results: Edris Enofe & Malik Blade in action

Dante Chen defeated Myles Borne

This was painfully stale. The work was mostly smooth, but nothing memorable happened in its entire runtime.

Chen and Borne opened the match with some mat wrestling. The men traded control on the mat for quite some time. After maintaining a headlock for a large portion of the match, Borne landed a rope-assisted DDT. Chen then transitioned into a pin, taking a quick win.

Arianna Grace defeated Yulisa Leon

I absolutely loved this. It was far from perfect, but these women carried themselves like stars and delivered a compelling match. Bravo.

Leon opened the match by gaining control of the head and maintaining it after connecting with a slam. Leon tried for a quick pin, giving Grace a moment to breathe after the kick-out.

Leon retook control of the head but paused her lead to taunt Grace. Grace was frustrated by the barb and launched a rally of strikes. Momentum shifted into Grace’s favor entirely as she transitioned into working the arm on the mat.

Leon powered off Grace the mat, landing a slam to buy herself some time. Leon landed a series of moves, ending with a nice missile dropkick and a beautiful bridging overhead slam to win the match.

Edris Enofe & Malik Blade defeated Bryson Montana & Damaris Griffin

This was a typical tag team match, until it wasn’t. Strange.

Blade and Enofe gained an early lead with quick tags and tandem offense. Montana ended the early onslaught by catching Blade and landing a colossal toss. Griffin and Montana then worked together to isolate Blade, hitting him with various power moves.

Once getting the tag, Enofe fought back into the match. When things were looking promising for Enofe, Quincy Elliott walked out. Elliott distracted everyone as he seductively rubbed his tookus on the ring post. Enofe and Blade came to their senses first, opening the door for a top rope elbow from Enofe, bringing this match to a strange end.

NXT Level Up results: Duke Hudson vs. Javier Bernal

Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo defeated Hank Walker

What an absolutely bizarre match.

Hank Walker looked like he was just picked up from an East Tennessee Autozone and was told he had to wrestle. Instead of wrestling like a hoss, Walker used grappling and arm drags. I guess Stacks’ ring work is how I’d imagine a mobster would wrestle, if that means anything.

Stacks opened the match with kicks. Walker caught Stacks, turning things around with a pair of arm drags. Stacks fought back into the match with a knee to the mid-section and some strikes. Walker kicked out of a pin attempt following a Stacks uppercut before attempting a rollup. Stacks landed a lariat to maintain his control, but again, he couldn’t close the match.

Once he escaped ground control, Walker planted Stacks with a crossbody and ripped off his mechanic’s shirt. Stacks answered with a pair of strikes and a kick to the head to close the match.

Amari Miller defeated Sloane Jacobs

What this match lacked in polish, it made up for in energy. Don’t get me wrong, the match wasn’t great, but they certainly left it all in the ring.

The match opened with both women trading control in a less-than-stellar ground sequence. Jacobs tried to maintain arm control as the awkward grappling continued. Jacobs whipped Miller arm-first onto the mat, successfully gaining control.

Miller slammed Jacobs into the bottom rope but couldn’t capitalize. Jacobs flattened Miller with a boot and retook the arm. Once Miller fought free, she turned things around with a barrage of kicks. To close the match, Miller slammed Jacobs into her knee, leading to the successful pin.

Duke Hudson defeated Javier Bernal

Utterly forgettable.

Hudson toyed with Bernal from the opening bell, using his size to gain the lead while taunting Bernal throughout. Bernal tried to fight his way into the match but couldn’t achieve anything significant. Hudson ended Bernal’s rally attempt with an STO before continuing to make offensive gains.

After a long struggle, Bernal reversed a slam into a DDT. Bernal followed up with a sliding elbow and a crossbody, leading to a near fall. Bernal tried climbing to the top, but Hudson intercepted him before hitting a crucifix powerbomb to close the match.

Hank Walker to debut on WWE NXT Level Up

A former college football player is set to have his first televised match on this week’s edition of NXT Level Up.

WWE has announced that Hank Walker (real name Joe Sculthorpe) will debut on NXT Level Up this Friday, facing Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo. Walker signed with WWE as part of the class of recruits that reported to the Performance Center this March.

Walker is a former offensive lineman for NC State University. After going undrafted, he spent time with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons in 2021 but didn’t make the team’s roster.

WWE.com wrote about Walker when he signed with the company: “A 6-for-2, 305-pound force, Joseph Sculthorpe was an NCAA All-Conference Offensive Lineman at NC State before signing with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent. Originally from Hampstead, N.C., Sculthorpe was a high school state heavyweight wrestling champion.”

WWE filed a trademark for the name “Hank Walker” on June 8. Walker had his first match at an NXT house show earlier this month.

Lorenzo is regularly featured on NXT television as part of Tony D’Angelo’s “family.” After Lorenzo’s tag team partner Troy “Two Dimes” Donovan was released by WWE, it was said on NXT this week that Donovan is now “sleeping with the fishes” after making a move against D’Angelo.

NXT Level Up airs on Peacock/WWE Network at 10 p.m. Eastern time on Fridays. Here’s the full lineup for this week’s episode:

  • Javier Bernal vs. Duke Hudson
  • Hank Walker vs. Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo
  • Amari Miller vs. Sloane Jacobs

NXT Level Up results: Myles Borne debuts

Thea Hail defeated Arianna Grace

Thea Hail was making her debut as a full-time student of Chase U. She apparently received a full ride, whatever that means.

This match was downright awkward at times, but the focus on arm work gave Hail ample selling time. It could have been worse.

Grace started the match by taking Hail to the mat. Hail fought to her feet by gaining control of Grace’s arm, maintaining the control through multiple attempts at offense from Grace. Grace eventually retook her lead by turning her attention to Hail’s arm. From standing to the mat, Grace was in total control of Hail’s arm.

Hail launched a comeback, connecting with quick offense while selling the arm. Grace caught Hail in a standing wrist lock, seemingly looking to close, but Hail reversed into a pin to score the win.

Guru Raaj defeated Myles Borne

Myles Borne, formerly David Bostian, made his debut in this match. Borne was a successful amateur wrestler before joining WWE, and it showed. This was a great debut match, with Borne’s offense looking especially crisp.

This match opened with a slick grappling sequence. The grappling continued to escalate, with Borne landing multiple snappy arm drags. Borne’s lead was punctuated with a pair of great dropkicks and a scoop slam for a near fall.

After kicking out, Raaj landed a big boot, rocking Raaj. Raaj caught Borne with a bunch of strikes and a bulldog from the second rope before pinning Borne. This was Raaj’s first win on Level up.

Ivy Nile defeated Elektra Lopez

Built around Lopez’s strength and Nile’s technique, this quickly became a legitimately great match. Ivy Nile is an extraordinary professional wrestler.

Lopez came to the ring with Legado del Fantasma. Before she finished her entrance, the D’Angelo Family walked out and forced Legado del Fantasma to the back. The D’Angelo Family accompanied Lopez for the rest of the match.

Nile opened the match by gaining control of Lopez’s back. Lopez tried to escape, only for Nile to transition into side control on the mat. Lopez, outwrestled, was forced to slam Nile to force the break.

Lopez used strikes and slams to extend her newfound control for some time. Lopez then stretched Nile before trying for a pin.

Nile eventually launched a rally after withstanding more strikes from Lopez. Lopez tried protecting her arm, but opened the door to a dragon sleeper from nowhere. Once Nile locked in the hold, Lopez tapped out.

Myles Borne to debut on WWE NXT Level Up

This week’s edition of Level Up will feature the televised in-ring debut of a new member of the NXT roster.

WWE has announced that Myles Borne (real name David Bostian) will make his televised debut against Guru Raaj on NXT Level Up this Friday night. Borne has a background in amateur wrestling and powerlifting.

Borne was part of the class of recruits who reported to the WWE Performance Center this March. WWE wrote when he signed with the company: “Twenty-three-year-old David Bostian of Wilmington, N.C., has been a folkstyle wrestler for 16 years while simultaneously training as a powerlifter.”

When the March Performance Center class was announced, Borne drew attention on social media for looking like Randy Orton.

WWE filed a trademark for “Myles Borne” on June 8. He made his first appearance for NXT when the brand return to running house shows in Florida last weekend. Borne took part in a house show match that was interrupted by Von Wagner.

NXT Level Up airs on Peacock/WWE Network at 10 p.m. Eastern time on Fridays. Here’s the full lineup for this week’s episode:

  • Ivy Nile vs. Elektra Lopez
  • Thea Hail vs. Arianna Grace
  • Guru Raaj vs. Myles Borne

NXT Level Up results: Enofe & Blade vs. Chen & Bernal

Fallon Henley defeated Brooklyn Barlow

This match wasn’t great, but both women displayed a lot of ring presence. Barlow is green, and that showed. Henley was charismatic in her delivery, even through the awkward moments.

The match opened with a clumsy wrestling sequence that turned into a brief pin exchange. After a test of strength, Barlow tried scoring a submission with a unique standing neck crank. Once she escaped the hold, Henley lept into offense, landing a lariat, bulldog, and single-leg running knee to close.

Tatum Paxley defeated Sloane Jacobs

I wish I knew why all of these matches feature so much empty mat wrestling. Paxley has one of the most exciting movesets I’ve seen on Level Up, but it’s wasted on matches made up mostly of rest holds.

Paxley opened the match by trying to score a quick win with a sly pin; Jacobs tried the same but was slammed for her troubles. Paxley then took the match to the mat, stretching Jacobs for some time. Once she escaped, Jacobs took her turn controlling the match on the mat.

Paxley fought back into the match with a swinging neckbreaker, dropkick, and gut-wrench suplex. With the end in sight, Paxley delivered a spinning electric chair powerbomb into a bridging pin to win the match.

Edris Enofe and Malik Blade defeated Dante Chen and Javier Bernal

This was a pretty by-the-numbers tag match. For what it’s worth, the crowd was into Enofe, especially after the hot tag.

This match opened with a couple of team-based sequences that favored Blade and Enofe. After Blade missed a leaping knee, Chen tagged in and took the match to the mat.

Bernal and Chen worked to isolate Enofe on the mat. Enofe finally received a tag, leading to an exciting comeback sequence. Blade and Enofe then worked together to hit Bernal with an elevated leg cutter. After landing the tandem finish, Enofe pinned Bernal to win the match.

Once the smoke cleared, both teams shook hands.

NXT Level Up results: Trick Williams vs. Dante Chen

Andre Chase and Bodhi Hayward defeated Bryson Montana and Damaris Griffin

The match was far from special, but Bodhi’s energy was contagious, and the crowd was very much into the Chase U act. This was fine.

Bodhi and Griffin traded holds and strikes early before a handoff to Montana led to his team taking control. Chase tagged in and turned things around for his team for a moment, but his opponents retook the advantage and began to isolate Chase.

Chase U reversed momentum again after a hot tag to Bodhi. Once Bodhi took out his opponents, Chase hit the ring, helping Bodhi hit the Frat Liner to close the match.

Amari Miller defeated Arianna Grace

This was not good, but it at least had some exciting moments compared to the main event.

Miller tried offering Grace a handshake to open the match, but Grace answered the gesture with a strike. Grace’s attempt to catch Miller failed as Miller took control with numerous strikes of her own.

Grace eventually overpowered Miller, taking the match to the mat. Grace led an extended sequence, with significant time spent on the ground. Once Miller finally escaped ground control, she landed a lariat and pair of kicks to turn things in her favor. Grace tried for a flipping pin, but Miller turned it into a pin of her own to win the match.

Trick Williams defeated Dante Chen

This was as dull as ditchwater.

Chen connected with the first stent of offense before taking the match to the mat. Williams tried fighting to his feet but was continually brought to the ground with Chen maintaining arm control.

Williams eventually slammed Chen into the ropes, opening the door for a dropkick. Once establishing a lead, Williams took the match to the mat himself, working the arm. I feel like I’m trapped in some kind of developmental purgatory.

Once Chen finally fought to a standing position, he launched a rally. After failing to close the match with his offensive sequence, Chen paused, allowing Williams to land a Trick kick and win the match.

NXT Level Up results: Josh Briggs vs. Quincy Elliott

Javier Bernal defeated Bryson Montana

This was a nothing match. This was Montana’s Level Up debut. He looked clean enough in the ring.

The match opened with back and forth. Bernal used arm drags to take Montana to the mat, and Montana answered with slams. Eventually, Montana locked Bernal in a torture rack variation; once Bernal escaped, he connected with a bunch of strikes, a dropkick, and a double knee facebreaker. Bernal then pinned Montana to bring this match to a close.

Ivy Nile defeated Yulisa Leon

Was this perfect? No. Did I love every moment? Absolutely. If there is a reason to watch NXT Level Up, it is Ivy Nile.

Leon started the match with an awkward takedown into the corner. Nile stood up, scored a takedown of her own, and immediately turned her attention to the arm of Leon. Leon escaped the hold and landed some strikes, rocking Nile. Leon took Nile back to the mat and tried for multiple quick pin attempts but couldn’t close things out.

Leon tried standing Nile up, perhaps for a suplex, but Nile reversed into a neckbreaker. From the ground, the pair exchanged strikes, building to a standing position. Nile won out but couldn’t connect with anything substantial while standing. Leon capitalized, catching Nile with a scoop slam. Leon tried pinning Nile, almost in a north-south position; this was the perfect opening for Nile, who turned the pin into a dragon sleeper to close the match.

Josh Briggs defeated Quincy Elliott

This wasn’t great.

Briggs gained the advantage early, knocking Elliott to his knees. After landing a punch to a grounded Elliott, Briggs celebrated with a high-five to Brooks Jensen; Briggs hurt his hand because Jensen was wearing a cast. This opened the door for Elliott, who took advantage with some heavy strikes and slams.

After an extended period of Elliott control, Briggs dodged a banzai drop. Briggs responded with some punches and a big boot to rock Elliott. Elliott tried to fight back with a corner splash, but Briggs bounced back with a lariat to win the match.

Debut announced for WWE NXT Level Up

A WWE Performance Center recruit will be making their in-ring debut on this week’s episode of NXT Level Up.

The debuting Bryson Montana (real name Jacoby Brooks) will face Javier Bernal on NXT Level Up this Friday night. The show streams on Peacock/WWE Network at 10 p.m. Eastern time.

Montana was signed by WWE after taking part in last August’s tryouts in Las Vegas. He’s a United States Navy veteran and a fitness/bodybuilding competitor. In 2021, Montana won the men’s classic physique category at the Lee Labrada Classic.

WWE filed a trademark for the name “Bryson Montana” in December of last year.

“NXT Level Up veteran Javier Bernal will show a debuting Montana the ropes when the two lock up in singles action,” WWE wrote. “Bernal has been a consistent presence on Friday nights, but can he pick up only his second career win against the rookie, or will Montana make an epic introduction?”

Here’s the full lineup for this week’s episode of Level Up:

  • Josh Briggs vs. Quincy Elliott
  • Ivy Nile vs. Yulisa Leon
  • Javier Bernal vs. Bryson Montana

NXT Level Up results: Channing Lorenzo & Troy Donovan in action

Tatum Paxley and Ivy Nile defeated Erica Yan and Sarray

I enjoyed this; it was simple and focused — precisely what it needed to be.

Nile took control of the match immediately following the opening bell. After being handed the Yan & Sarray gained control after Paxley was tagged in.

Nile tagged back in and caught Sarray with a quick kick to retake momentum. Nile then took her time delivering power moves, leaving Sarray desperate before tagging back into Paxley.

Paxley took the match to the mat for a while, buying Sarray enough time for a hot tag. Yan’s rally was cut short as Nile stealthfully tagged back in. Nile hit Yan with a superman punch and locked in a dragon sleeper to bring this match to a close.

Salone Jacobs defeated Thea Hail

These women are green (both are under 20), and it showed. The match was far from memorable, which is probably a good thing.

The match opened with standard back and forth wrestling, arm drags, and strikes. Jacobs eventually worked Jacobs into the corner, gaining control with some boots, which she followed with a scoop slam. After scoring a near fall, Jacobs took things to the mat for quite some time.

Once in a standing position, Hail began to rally but was cut short after Jacobs caught a stray kick and hit Hail with some kind of fireman’s carry drop. Jacobs then pinned Hail to win the match.

Channing Lorenzo and Troy Donovan defeated Javier Bernal and Dante Chen

This mafia gimmick is terrible, and this match was boring.

Both teams traded momentum early, mainly utilizing headlocks. After a fumble, Lorenzo tagged into the match and started putting the boots to Bernal. Donovan and Lorenzo then traded tags, working to isolate Bernal.

Bernal eventually hit a lariat and enziguri to tag out to Chen. Chen ran through his opponents but couldn’t connect with his finish. After a blindside boot from Lorenzo, the mafia guys hit Bernal with a double boot and pinned him to win the match.

WWE NXT Level Up results: Arianna Grace debuts

Damon Kemp defeated Dante Chen

While this wasn’t fantastic, it had more consistent narrative elements than the average NXT Level Up match, making it stand out.

Kemp started the match by taking Chen to the mat. After dominating on the ground, Kemp scored a suplex and a slam. Chen began to fight back with some targeted offense, focusing on the leg. This strategy yielded a long stint of control for Chen, who worked the leg for an extended period.

Kemp turned things around after a roll-up attempt caught Chen off guard. Kemp landed many power moves, punctuated with a powerslam. Kemp’s rally led to his victory.

Arianna Grace defeated Amari Miller

This was bad. Everything in it was sloppy, boring, or both.

Grace, who is the daughter of Santino Marella, was making her WWE in-ring debut here. She joined the Performance Center this March and is set to take part in the inaugural NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament.

Miller scored a takedown, establishing side control and a headlock immediately after the opening bell. She maintained this control for some time. Once Grace fought free, she landed an awkward arm drag to gain control of the arm. This also lasted forever.

Miller eventually escaped Grace’s clutches and launched a sloppy rally. Miller tried for her finish, but Grace rolled her up instead, leaving Grace with a win in her debut.

Andre Chase defeated Quincy Elliott

This match felt like a throwback throughout its entire runtime, both for better and worse. So if you’ve been missing your 80s TV main events, it might be worth checking this one out.

Elliott toyed with Chase from the opening bell, dancing on his opponent whenever the opportunity presented itself. The actual wrestling that followed mainly consisted of both men trying to land something substantial but being stuffed.

Elliott won out in the opening exchange, scoring a splash to establish a strong lead. Elliott took his time, eventually giving Chase enough time to launch a comeback. Chase scored a dropkick and crossbody, flipping the match’s momentum on its face. Chase continued to make offensive advances, eventually landing an impressive body slam on the much larger Elliott to bring this match to a close.

Arianna Grace to make WWE in-ring debut on NXT Level Up

The daughter of Santino Marella will make her WWE in-ring debut on this week’s edition of NXT Level Up.

Arianna Grace (real name Bianca Carelli) will have her first match for WWE as she takes on Amari Miller on NXT Level Up this Friday night. Grace signed with WWE as part of the class of recruits that joined the WWE Performance Center last month.

Grace is set to take part in the inaugural NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament, which begins on the Tuesday, May 10 episode of NXT. A video spotlighting Grace aired on NXT this Tuesday night:

WWE wrote about Grace when she signed with the company:

Bianca Carelli, the daughter of WWE Superstar Santino Marella, comes to the Performance Center after earning her Bachelor’s degree in biology from Western University. Carelli has extensive training in MMA fighting with a focus on Judo, Jiu Jitsu and Boxing.

Grace was involved with the NWA’s Empower pay-per-view last August, appearing as an entrant in the Women’s Invitational Cup gauntlet match.

NXT Level Up airs on Peacock/WWE Network at 10 p.m. Eastern time on Fridays. Here’s the lineup for this week’s show:

  • Andre Chase vs. Quincy Elliott
  • Amari Miller vs. Arianna Grace
  • Dante Chen vs. Damon Kemp

NXT Level Up results: Bodhi Hayward vs. Dante Chen

Edris Enofe and Malik Blade defeated Quincy Elliott and Damaris Griffin

This wasn’t great. This was Griffin’s debut.

Elliott started the match by using his size to gain a quick advantage that he passed on to Griffin. After the tag, Enofe and Blade took control with a typical tag team strategy.

Griffin eventually landed a spine buster that turned into a bit of offense. Griffin then tagged Elliott, who launched Enofe across the ring with a giant pounce to cement their control.

Elliott missed a sitting drop, allowing for a hot tag into Blade. This launched a chaotic sequence of control trading. Eventually, Blade landed a splash, and Enofe pinned Griffin.

Fallon Henley defeated Thea Hail

This was dreadful.

After an awkward opening takedown exchange, Hail was left in a position of control. Hail’s standing offense looked quite bad, but she eventually took Henley to the mat, working a basic submission. Once Henley escaped, she launched a comeback, brought to an end by a single leg running knee. Henley pinned Hail to bring this match to an end.

Bodhi Hayward defeated Dante Chen

This was a fine little match that played well to both men’s strengths.

It opened with Hayward and Chen trading favorable positions standing and on the mat. Chen was the first to emerge with control after a pair of well-timed neckbreakers.

Chen kept Hayward under his control with a prolonged chin lock. Once Hayward escaped, he launched a comeback filled with powerful moves. Hayward closed the match with a spinebuster pin combination.
