Lion’s Break Collision series to air on NJPW World

NJPW has announced a new show featuring up and coming talent facing established stars starting in July.

The show will be called Lion’s Break Collision, and will start airing July 3rd at 10 pm Eastern, running at the same time WWE 205 Live airs on the WWE Network. The show is slated to air throughout the month.

The announcement noted that former MLW Heavyweight champion and radio host for this website Tom Lawlor will appear on the shows.

The card for the July 3 event will feature Alex Coughlin vs. Clark Connors and Jeff Cobb & Rocky Romero vs. TJP & Karl Fredericks. Other wrestlers scheduled to appear on the shows include Misterioso, Rust Taylor, Danny Limelight, and The DKC.

Lion’s Break is the name of shows under the NJPW banner that feature up and coming talent from NJPW’s LA Dojo. A show was slated for WrestleMania weekend featuring Hiroshi Tanahashi, The Guerillas of Destiny, and other NJPW talent, but the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘My Dad is a Heel Wrestler’ movie coming to NJPW World

“My Dad is a Heel Wrestler” is coming to New Japan World later this week.

The movie, which came out in 2018 and stars Hiroshi Tanahashi, will be uploaded to NJPW World at midnight Japan Standard Time on Saturday, April 4. It will have English subtitles available.

“My Dad is a Heel Wrestler” tells “the tale of a former top-flight, fan-favorite wrestler trying to reclaim a bond with both the public and his son.”

Outside of Japan, the movie is being made available in America, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, and Germany and can be streamed from when it’s uploaded until September 3, 2020.

In Japan, the movie can be streamed on NJPW World until April 3, 2021.

During NJPW and CMLL’s Fantasticamania tour in January 2019, Tanahashi & Ryusuke Taguchi faced Kazuchika Okada & Togi Makabe in a match where all four wrestled as their in-ring personas from “My Dad is a Heel Wrestler.”

The movie is being added to NJPW World as part of the NJPW Together project, which features alternative content being uploaded while new events aren’t happening due to the coronavirus pandemic.

NJPW World finds its new lead English color commentary voice

With Steve Corino leaving Ring of Honor and his announcing duties with New Japan Pro Wrestling for a job at the WWE Performance Center, NJPW was tasked with filling the spot on their streaming service’s English broadcast team opposite Kevin Kelly.

That spot has been filled, with Don Callis (formerly known as The Jackyl in WWF and Cyrus in ECW) announcing on the latest episode of his “Killing the Town” podcast — that he does with Lance Storm — that he has accepted a position to be NJPW World’s new lead English color commentary voice.

Callis noted on the podcast that he had agreed to the deal within the last week and would be working on the broadcast team alongside Kelly, who he worked with previously in the WWF in the 1990s. Callis thanked Kenny Omega for helping facilitate the deal.

NJPW announced last week that they would be ramping up their English commentary broadcast schedule as they attempt to further appeal to international fans.
