Tomohiro Ishii vs. ‘Filthy’ Tom Lawlor headlining this week’s NJPW Strong

NJPW Strong’s Autumn Action series wraps up this Saturday with three matches, headlined by Tomohiro Ishii vs. “Filthy” Tom Lawlor. 

Ishii, a six-time former NEVER Openweight Champion, faces Lawlor, a former NJPW Strong Openweight Champion in the main event of this Saturday’s episode in a match officially announced Monday night on social media. 

Also set for Saturday’s episode, Blake Christian will team with Mascara Dorada against Alex Zayne, and CMLL’s Mistico. 

In Saturday’s opener, AEW’s Ari Daivari will take on Kevin Knight of NJPW’s LA Dojo in singles competition. 

The Autumn Action series was taped on September 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Sam’s Town venue. The show will air at 8 p.m. Eastern time on NJPW World, and will be available on demand after airing.

Shingo Takagi’s NJPW Strong debut set for this week’s episode

Shingo Takagi’s NJPW Strong debut is set for Saturday’s Autumn Action episode. 

In the show’s main event, Shingo will take on Rocky Romero in singles competition. Shingo is the provisional KOPW 2022 trophy holder, plus a former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. 

Also announced for Saturday, Christopher Daniels will take on Yuya Uemura. Daniels and Uemura had been temporarily aligned as partners in the NJPW Strong Openweight Tag Team title tournament, but Daniels turned on Uemura after the pair lost in the tournament. 

In Saturday’s opening contest, Jorel Nelson and Royce Isaacs of West Coast Wrecking Crew and Team Filthy will take on Jakob Austin Young and the debuting Greg Sharpe. 

Strong’s Autumn Action episodes were taped in Las Vegas on September 11.

Two title matches set for this week’s NJPW Strong

Two title matches are set for Saturday’s NJPW Strong Autumn Action episode.

In the main event, Fred Rosser will defend the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship against Chris Dickinson. 

In Saturday’s second title match, Aussie Open’s Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis of United Empire will defend the NJPW Strong Openweight Tag Team Championships against JR Kratos and Danny Limelight of Team Filthy. 

In Saturday’s opener, Doc Gallows will face Che Cabrera. Gallows made his return to WWE alongside NJPW’s current NEVER Openweight Champion Karl Anderson on Monday’s Raw. 

Strong’s Autumn Action episodes were taped on September 11 at Sam’s Town in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Homicide and Wheeler Yuta will team in the main event of Saturday’s NJPW Strong episode. 

The Autumn Action series of Strong shows will begin with a tag team main event, with Homicide and Yuta teaming against IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jay White and Karl Anderson. 

In another match announced for Saturday, Juice Robinson will face Ren Narita in singles competition. 

In Saturday’s opening contest, AEW’s QT Marshall takes on Shota Umino in another singles bout. 

The Autumn Action series of Strong shows were taped on Sunday, September 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Sam’s Town venue.

Eddie Kingston off NJPW Strong taping due to positive COVID-19 test

Eddie Kingston is off this weekend’s NJPW Strong tapings due to testing positive for COVID-19.

Kingston revealed that he has COVID-19 in a tweet posted on Saturday afternoon. He was scheduled to team with Homicide & Wheeler Yuta against Jay White & The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) at Sunday’s NJPW Strong Autumn Action tapings in Las Vegas.

In his tweet, Kingston wrote that he’s going to test again to see if he’ll be able to make this week’s AEW Dynamite/Rampage. Kingston doesn’t have a match announced for either show yet.

“So here we go, got covid won’t be able to make Strong this weekend,” Kingston tweeted. “It f*cking sucks going to test again to see if I can make tv this week.”

On the Zero Hour pre-show for All Out this past Sunday, Kingston defeated NJPW’s Tomohiro Ishii in a singles match. It was a rematch from May’s NJPW Capital Collision event. Ishii defeated Kingston in that first meeting.

The Autumn Action tapings are being held at Sam’s Town Live.

Four new matches announced for NJPW Autumn Action

Four new matches have been announced for NJPW Strong’s September 11 Autumn Action taping in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

AEW’s QT Marshall will face Shota Umino in singles competition at the taping. The match was set up at the High Alert taping in July after Umino answered an open challenge from Marshall. 

In another singles contest set for Las Vegas, Ren Narita will take on Bullet Club’s Juice Robinson.

Kevin Blackwood will face Ariya Daivari in another new bout announced for the taping. 

Additionally, LA Dojo’s Kevin Knight will take on Che Cabrera.

Tomohiro Ishii vs. Tom Lawlor announced for NJPW Strong Autumn Action

Tomohiro Ishii vs. “Filthy” Tom Lawlor is one of four new matches announced for NJPW Strong: Autumn Action.

In a bout announced on Wednesday, Ishii will face the former NJPW Strong Openweight Champion in singles competition at Autumn Action in Las Vegas on Sunday, September 11. 

Also set for Autumn Action, Shingo Takagi will face Rocky Romero in Shingo’s NJPW Strong debut match. 

In tag team action, Mistico will team with Alex Zayne against Blake Christian and Mascara Dorada. 

In a trios bout, IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jay White will team with Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson of The Good Brothers against Eddie Kingston, Wheeler Yuta, and Homicide.

The Good Brothers announced for NJPW Strong Autumn Action

The Good Brothers (Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson) have been added to the NJPW Strong: Autumn Action lineup. 

NJPW announced Wednesday that Anderson and Gallows will take part in the Sunday, September 11 Strong taping in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

No matches have been announced for the Autumn Action event to this point. 

In addition to Gallows and Anderson, Shingo Takagi will make his Strong debut in Las Vegas. IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jay White, NJPW Strong Openweight Champion Fred Rosser, Tomohiro Ishii, and Alex Zayne have also been announced for the taping. 

Tickets for the taping are on sale now, with prices ranging from $25 to $150. Sam’s Town Live will host the show in Las Vegas, with a 5 p.m. Pacific bell time.

Prior to Autumn Action, NJPW will tape the Fighting Spirit Unleashed series of Strong episodes this Sunday, August 21 at the Vermont Hollywood in Los Angeles.

Shingo Takagi to make NJPW Strong debut at Autumn Action

Shingo Takagi is set to make his NJPW Strong debut. 

Shingo, the KOPW 2022 holder and a former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, will make his Strong debut as part of the Autumn Action taping in Las Vegas on Sunday, September 11. NJPW made the announcement on Wednesday. 

No opponent has been announced for Shingo for the event, and no matches at all have been announced as of yet for Las Vegas.
