Mick Foley: ‘All things considered, I’m doing pretty well’

Though he has some limitations from the decades of punishment he took in the ring, Mick Foley is feeling pretty good physically.

Foley was in the United Kingdom last weekend to attend the For the Love of Wrestling convention. While there, the 59-year-old Hardcore Legend reflected on the infamous chair shots he took in his match against The Rock at Royal Rumble 1999. Foley said the cumulative effect of shots like that have made it so he has to be careful of head injuries in his daily life, but he’s feeling pretty good all things considered.

“That was a bad night and I could have been seriously hurt, so I certainly hope no one tries anything remotely like that,” Foley said. “I was hurting. I mean, cumulatively you just can’t take a lot of shots like that. So I have to be really careful in my everyday life. I [can’t] get jolted, I can’t ride rollercoasters anymore, I have an aversion to bright lights. But all things considered, I think I’m doing pretty well.”

In 2024, Foley revealed that he was planning to come out of retirement to have one final death match for his 60th birthday — but those plans were called off when he suffered a concussion in training. Though a final match will not be happening, Foley has continued to focus on improving his health. He announced last month that — after weighing 377 pounds at his highest — he’s now down to 280 pounds with the help of weight-loss medication.

Foley is heading to Qatar this Friday and Saturday to make an appearance at Qatar Pro Wrestling’s SuperSlam event.

Mick Foley on Vince McMahon: ‘I’m choosing to appreciate him until I learn more’

Mick Foley says he’s not going to judge Vince McMahon until learning more about “what may have gone down.”

Foley joined Rikishi for a panel discussion with Monopoly Events this weekend at Comic-Con Northern Ireland, hosted by SoCal Val. During the session, both were asked about the relationship they had with Vince during their careers.

“I genuinely liked him,” Foley responded. “I mean, my relationship was never the same with him after I left WWE and went to TNA for three years but to this day I’m still trying to find an address to write to him just to thank him for taking a chance on me.”

“I think all of us are a combination of good traits and bad traits,” Foley continued. “You hope your good traits outweigh your bad traits and it seems perhaps that Vince got it backwards there for a little while but I’ve been there when he’s done good things. I’ve seen him do good things.”

Foley continued to say that he’s holding out judgment until learning more about the situation.

“He was someone who did the right thing for the right reasons a lot of the time. I feel really bad that someone I care about got into something that seems pretty unsavory. I’m going to hold off judgment until… – But I think one thing that’s fortunate is whatever he did or did not do, I don’t think many of us are allowing that to mess with our memories, you know what I mean? He was instrumental in creating some of those memories, so I think I want to—I’m choosing to appreciate him until I learn more about what may have gone down.”

Rikishi also responded by saying he wishes to keep his happy memories of Vince intact and spoke about the long relationship between his family and the McMahons.

“We have a long relationship with the McMahon family, well over 75 plus years with this man. Business has been open with his father well over 100 years, so we’ve kind of grandfathered into the McMahons. Me personally, I thank him for the opportunity of giving a bunch of guys from the island of Samoa, this small place, to be able to give us a platform to introduce our culture and our people to the world.”

“If it wasn’t for McMahon, then nobody would know who Afa and Sika was, nobody would know who Peter Maivia, Rikishi, all the way down to Roman Reigns to the Usos. As far as the Fatu and Anoa’i clan, we’re forever McMahons and WWE. Since I’ve left WWE, I’ve been underneath the legends (deal) and that umbrella with the family, still in contact. They’ve given me another opportunity. I feel it’s the trust and the relationship of our families that has given me the opportunity to help my business grow in Los Angeles with the wrestling school.”

“I have nothing but respect for the McMahons, and when I say McMahons, I say all of them.”

“You know, what’s happening with him now, as far as with the Netflix—I’ll make a decision when that comes out, but for now, I always believe in people having a second chance in life.”

“At the end of the day, like Mick, I would like to keep my happy memories of the McMahons and what they have done.”

The “Mr. McMahon” Netflix docuseries produced by Bill Simmons is scheduled to premiere on September 25.

Foley and Rikishi’s full panel discussion is available below:

Mick Foley set for GCW Dream On appearance

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley will appear at GCW Dream On.

The promotion announced Thursday that Foley is set to appear at the Saturday, November 23 show:

*AMERICAN DREAM UPDATE* GCW comes to The American Dream Mall on Saturday, November 23rd! Just Signed: WWE Hall of Famer MICK FOLEY returns to GCW on 11/23 at #GCWDream! Tickets go On Sale Friday at 10AM: http://GCWDream.Eventbrite.com Watch LIVE on@FiteTV+!

Foley is advertised for a special appearance on the card, not in a wrestling role. Foley had considered climbing back into the ring for one final death match earlier this year, but pulled the plug after suffering a concussion in training.

Foley has appeared for the promotion previously, including a 2021 appearance for Fight Club which featured a Jon Moxley vs. Nick Gage bout.

Foley is one of two WWE Hall of Famers now set for appearances at Dream On, as Kurt Angle was announced for the event earlier this week.

Mick Foley ‘probably’ would have chosen MJF as opponent for final match

When he was planning to come out of retirement for one final match, Mick Foley considered MJF being his opponent.

Foley announced earlier this year that he was considering having one last match for his 60th birthday in 2025. But Foley called off those plans after suffering a concussion while only doing light training. During an appearance at Nickel City Comic Con this summer, Foley stated that — if he had gone through with the idea — he probably would have chosen MJF as his opponent.

“When I was thinking of having that last match, I’ll tell ya what — when I announced that intention, there was no shortage of people from every promotion reaching out to me. And one guy I probably would have gone with because he’d clearly done some thinking about it and lined out six great weeks of TV was MJF,” Foley said. “We didn’t take a photo together because we didn’t want to like ruin the secret meeting, but I heard what he had to say, I really liked it. I had no doubt that he would have pulled it off perfectly. He’s so good and in his prime that he could have worked around my weaknesses and played to my strengths. And I think we could have done something pretty cool. MJF. Final answer.”

Foley had been considering having one last match as a way to motivate himself to lose weight. It would have had a Death Match stipulation. When he first brought up the idea, Foley mentioned Matt Cardona and Jon Moxley as potential opponents.

If Foley did have the match, it would have been his first time wrestling since appearing in WWE Royal Rumble 2012. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.

Foley said at Nickel City Comic Con that having a hip replacement in 2017 has helped improve his quality of life. He didn’t want to risk that by wrestling again.

Actor Paul Walter Hauser hoping to play Mick Foley in future project

Award-winning actor Paul Walter Hauser is hoping to portray Mick Foley in a future project.

In an interview with The Wrap, Hauser revealed that he’s become friends with Foley and has been talking with the Hardcore Legend about potentially playing him in either a movie or mini-series. Hauser is a big wrestling fan who has also become an occasional in-ring competitor.

“I’m literally talking to Mick Foley right now about the potential of playing him in a movie or limited series,” Hauser said. “I don’t know which and I don’t know how, but he and I have become friendly. And I think he knows that that could be a really great stroke of genius in casting me to play him.”

Hauser is an Emmy, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice Award winner. All three awards were for Hauser’s work on the Apple TV+ series “Black Bird.” His other roles have included starring in the movie “Richard Jewell.”

With him being such a fan, Hauser has been approached before about wrestling-related acting projects. Hauser said he wants to make sure there’s a real story there and he’s not just doing it because of his fandom.

“A couple of people have approached me to potentially play different wrestlers in different projects, and for me, I just have to make sure that there’s a real story there and I’m not just doing it because I’m a fan,” Hauser said.

“I’ve got to look enough like the guy. So, I don’t think I’ll be playing Steve Austin, but I could maybe play a Mick Foley or a Jim Neidhart.”

Hauser has made appearances for AEW, ROH, and was a guest on a 2019 episode of WWE Backstage. In November of last year, Hauser made his in-ring debut at a show for Wrestling Revolver. He’s worked four indie matches in total.

It was announced this week that Hauser will debut for MLW as an entrant in Battle Riot VI in Atlanta on Saturday, June 1. The show is airing live for free on YouTube.

The 58-year-old Foley had recently been considering coming out of retirement for one final match in an effort to lose weight and in celebration of his 60th birthday. But after suffering a concussion, Foley decided to call off those plans. He gave an update last month saying that his concussion symptoms have subsided and his condition has improved greatly.

Mick Foley shares positive health update after suffering concussion

Mick Foley is feeling better after battling the symptoms of an apparent concussion.

Last week, the 58-year-old Hardcore Legend revealed that he was calling off plans to return to the ring for one final match. Foley had been dealing with dizziness and lightheadedness. He initially thought it was caused by driving too much and not sleeping enough, but doctors told him that the symptoms pointed to a concussion that he suffered without even knowing it. Foley said he had not done much training in the ring but had done a little bit.

Foley shared a new update on Tuesday informing fans that his condition has improved greatly.

“I am very happy to report that I have improved greatly over the past few days, and symptoms from my recent concussion have subsided,” Foley wrote.

He said that, in a weird way, he’s happy to have had this wake-up call:

Hello everyone, this is Mick Foley with a concussion update. You might be able to tell by the tone of my voice, it’s good news. Yeah, yeah – really good news. Even going into this weekend when I resumed my work schedule, I was a little out of it. But over the next three days, wow, really felt the fog lifting. It’s kind of like coming to the surface after you’ve been swimming under water.

I last had one of these minor concussions six years ago after riding a rollercoaster that shook me from side-to-side. And now following this episode, I’ve decided that I am no longer going to be taking on the deadly duo of Father Time and Mother Nature, because they commenced to kicking my butt, and it’s not a rematch I’m looking to have.

So I’m really happy, in a weird way, that I had this little wake-up call. I really appreciate all the well-wishes people sent me, people concerned about me. I’m doing really good. Always appreciate your support.

Though he hasn’t wrestled since 2012, Foley was considering coming out of retirement to have one final death match in celebration of his 60th birthday. Foley said he wanted to lose weight and was using the potential match as motivation. The match would not have taken place in WWE.

Deciding not to go through with the match is a decision that was “strongly” supported by Foley’s family.

Mick Foley calls off plan to have one final match

Hardcore Legend Mick Foley is no longer planning to return to the ring for one final match.

Earlier this year, the 58-year-old Foley revealed that he was considering coming out of retirement to have one final death match in celebration of his 60th birthday. Foley said he wanted to lose weight and was using the goal of having one more match as motivation.

But Foley suffered from dizziness last month and had to miss some personal appearances because of it. After initially thinking the symptoms were caused by driving too much and not sleeping enough, Foley posted a video on Monday revealing that — after consulting with doctors — it appears that he suffered a concussion without knowing it.

Foley said he’s calling off the idea of having another match. It’s a decision that Foley’s family “strongly” supports.

As some of you know, I had to miss a couple weekends of appearances because of dizziness and lightheadedness. After consulting a couple of doctors and also using my own experience with concussions — the symptoms, they seem to point to a concussion that I did not even know I received. I hadn’t done too much in the ring, but I had done a little bit. I had noticed that I was lightheaded after one of the workouts, but I thought it would go away.

So it just seems like the wisest move, and one that’s strongly supported by my family, is to call off that final match. If I can get concussed from something I’m not even aware of, then some of the things that I was thinking of doing and hoping of doing in a big match would not be smart. So with my family’s urging, and after careful thought, I’ve decided there will be no final match. Thanks a lot for tuning in, and I hope you have a nice day.

Foley had floated Matt Cardona and Jon Moxley’s names as possible opponents for the final match. It would not have taken place in WWE.

The last time that Foley wrestled was in the 2012 WWE Royal Rumble. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.

Mick Foley to miss convention appearance due to dizziness

Due to experiencing dizziness, Mick Foley won’t be able to make a scheduled convention appearance this weekend.

Foley posted on his Instagram stories that he’s been working through some dizziness over the last couple of weeks. Because of that, he’s decided to cut back on traveling until his symptoms are gone. Foley will no longer be appearing at the Squared Circle Expo in Indianapolis. The convention is taking place this Friday and Saturday.

Foley also won’t be able to appear for Ohio Valley Wrestling on Thursday.

In his post, Foley said he thinks the dizziness is because he’s done too much driving, hasn’t slept enough, and has taken on too many bookings in the month of March:

VERY SORRY TO CANCEL

I’m really sorry to give the news that I will not be able to make it to the Squared Circle convention in Indianapolis this weekend. I’ve been working through some dizziness the last couple of weeks – and my family and I feel like it would be best to cut back on my traveling until my symptoms are gone. I also will be unable to make my return to OVW Thursday as I had originally hoped.

I think I may have just done way too much driving – 40 hours in 5 days – not enough sleeping, and just taken on too many bookings in the month of March. I really take pride in making all my dates, and I absolutely do not want to let anyone down, but in this case, we feel like it’s best for me to rest up.

Squared Circle Expo wrote:

We have the unfortunate news that Mick Foley has to cancel his appearance at Squared Circle Expo this weekend.

We have always said, health is more important than anything, and we hope Mick recovers quickly and we can have him at a future event! Love ya Mick!

For those who have purchased photo ops with Foley, Squared Circle Expo is offering to exchange that for a different photo op, merchandise, or a cash refund.

The 58-year-old Foley has been attempting to lose weight ahead of potentially having one more death match in celebration of his 60th birthday. Foley said earlier this month that he isn’t sure if he’ll be going through with the match. He said he’ll have an answer by the beginning of 2025.

The Hardcore Legend hasn’t wrestled since appearing in the 2012 WWE Royal Rumble. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.

In a weight loss update posted this week, Foley said he now weighs 348 lbs. His highest weight was 372 lbs.

Mick Foley not sure if he’ll have one final match

Mick Foley isn’t sure if he’ll be having one final match.

Last month, the 58-year-old Hardcore Legend revealed that he was thinking about doing one final death match for his 60th birthday. Foley said he wanted to lose 100 pounds and was using the idea of having one last match as motivation to help him drop the weight. Foley said the match would not take place in WWE.

Foley gave an update on the possibility during a live autograph signing for Highspots this week. Foley said he feels better and is moving better, but his weight loss isn’t showing up on the scale yet. Foley said he’ll know by the start of 2025 whether he’s going to go through with the match or not.

Foley responded when asked if he’s really thinking about doing one more match:

Yeah, but I’d have to lose an extraordinary amount of weight – and it’s not falling off like I hoped it would. So I’m going to have to reexamine where I am at a certain point. It’s not about the money. I want to have a fun match, but I am having trouble. I’ve been working out, I feel better, moving better, but it’s not showing up as of yet on the scale.

So I’m not sure. I’ll have an answer by the beginning of the year.

Foley had mentioned Jon Moxley or Matt Cardona as potential opponents for the death match. He told Highspots that there are a lot of different options for his opponent.

It’s been more than a decade since Foley last wrestled as an entrant in the 2012 WWE Royal Rumble. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.

Mick Foley thinking of having one final death match for 60th birthday

Wrestling legend Mick Foley is thinking about stepping into the ring one final time.

The 58-year-old Foley hasn’t wrestled in over a decade. But on the final episode of his Foley is Pod podcast, Foley said he’s given thought to the idea of losing 100 pounds and then having one last match for his 60th birthday. Foley said it would be a death match:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcV7MKMqW-0

Just to put it out there, 60 is right around the corner. I’m thinking of doing one final match for my 60th birthday. Death match. I think it’d be a great incentive to drop those 100 big ones [pounds]. And I think it might be fun.

When asked if the match would take place in WWE, Foley stated that it would not:

No, no. I don’t think so, because I think it would be a pretty gory spectacle. I’m just thinking about it. I put it out there to two of my kids and they were like, ‘Would you get hurt?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, probably.’

But I wouldn’t have to get my brain rattled, right? I’m not adverse to a few sticheroonies here and there.

Foley said the match wouldn’t be for everyone and he knows people would understandably say this isn’t good for him, but it could help him drop the 100 pounds he needs to lose. Foley said he wants motivation to lose the weight.

Foley named Jon Moxley or Matt Cardona as the opponent he would like to face:

Moxley or Matt Cardona. I think Moxley would be the easiest, but Matt has that heat in the death match world that could really make it something cool.

The last time Foley competed in the ring was an appearance in the 2012 Royal Rumble.

Foley was inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame in 2000 and the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013. Last year, he made an appearance during the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony to help induct Stacy Keibler.

Mick Foley reveals Iron Survivor Challenge qualifying matches for WWE NXT

The Iron Survivor Challenge qualifying matches for NXT this week have been announced.

Mick Foley posted a video to Instagram on Saturday revealing that Dijak vs. Tyler Bate and Fallon Henley vs. Tiffany Stratton have been added to the lineup for Tuesday’s show.

“Hello NXT, it’s the hardcore legend here, WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley and I’m so excited because HBK Shawn Michaels has granted me the honor of selecting the qualifying matches this week for the Iron Survivor Challenge,” Foley says in the video.

“Let’s start with the women. Now, I’ve been watching NXT’s women’s division for a long time and It’s extremely strong. Two of the top women I want to specifically talk about, Fallon Henley and Tiffany Stratton. Now, their match last week never took place due to Tiffany’s attack so I say we absolutely see that match this week, and we up the stakes just a wee bit with the winner punching their ticket to Deadline.”

“As far as the men, two guys I’ve been watching a long time, long before any of you knew their names, Dijak, always thought this guy was a future champion but in order to get to Deadline, Dijak will have to get past a guy I’ve known and followed since he was a teenager, the big strong boy Tyler Bate. It’s going to be a great match-up of different styles. I can’t wait to see these matches this Tuesday on NXT.”

WWE announced the men’s and women’s Iron Survivor Challenge matches will return at NXT Deadline on December 9 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The 25-minute match is won by the wrestler who accumulates the most points, which can be earned through pinfalls, submissions, or being the victim of a disqualification. Pinned, submitted, or disqualified wrestlers are sent to a penalty box for 90 seconds before being allowed to return to the match. Grayson Waller and Roxanne Perez won last year’s matches at NXT Deadline 2022.

Below is the updated lineup for Tuesday’s NXT.

  • NXT Heritage Cup: Noam Dar defends against Akira Tozawa
  • Lyra Valkyria to make return
  • Bron Breakker vs. Von Wagner
  • Iron Survivor Challenge qualifying match: Tiffany Stratton vs. Fallon Henley
  • Iron Survivor Challenge qualifying match: Dijak vs. Tyler Bate

The Undertaker & Mick Foley rewatch iconic WWE Hell in a Cell match

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of their iconic Hell in a Cell match, The Undertaker and Mick Foley got together to rewatch the bout.

WWE uploaded a 28-minute video on Monday with Undertaker and Foley rewatching their Hell in a Cell match from King of the Ring 1998. While Undertaker won the match, it’s famous for the level of punishment that Foley took during it. There were spots where Foley was both thrown off the Hell in a Cell cage and chokeslammed through it.

Undertaker vs. Foley took place in Pittsburgh on June 28, 1998. It was the third-ever Hell in a Cell match.

To film the video rewatching the match, Foley left his family vacation, flew to Texas, and flew back within a 24-hour period.

“I gotta tell ya, there’s one man in the world that I would give up my Disney vacation for, catch a flight to Austin, Texas, and then go back in a 24-hour period,” Foley told Undertaker. “It’s you, man. That’s you.”
