Semifinals set for WWE NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament

The semifinals are set for the Men’s Breakout Tournament.

Lexis King will face Riley Osbourne and Oba Femi will face Tavion Heights in the semifinals that take place on next week’s NXT. The winners of those matches will advance to the finals, where the winner will earn a future championship match.

King was the first to advance on Tuesday after pinning Dion Lennox with a swinging neckbreaker. After the match, Trey Bearhill emerged and went after King, but King managed to escape. It was King that attacked Bearhill with a steel chair last week, allowing King to enter the tournament as Bearhill’s replacement due to injury.

Heights later defeated Luca Cruscifino in the final opening round match, pinning Cruscifino with a twisting belly-to-belly suplex.

The Men’s Breakout Tournament follows the Women’s Breakout Tournament, which concluded at the end of October with Lola Vice defeating Kelani Jordan in the finals. As a result, she now has a chance to challenge for the NXT Women’s Championship at a time of her choosing.

Oba Femi, Riley Osborne advance in WWE NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament

The first two men have advanced in the Men’s Breakout Tournament.

Oba Femi was the first to advance on Tuesday’s NXT, defeating Myles Borne with a powerbomb. Later in the show Riley Osborne advanced, defeating Keanu Carver following a shooting star press.

With the win, Osborne will now face the winner between Lexis King and Dion Lennox in the semifinals. Femi will face the winner between Tavion Heights and Luca Crusifino.

Trey Bearhill had originally been announced as a participant in the tournament. An angle took place prior to the first tournament match where Lexis King attacked Bearhill with a steel chair. After King gloated to Ava about what he had done backstage, Ava said that the other participants in the tournament wanted to face him, and as a result replaced Bearhill in the tournament.

The Women’s Breakout Tournament concluded back on the second night of Halloween Havoc on October 31. Lola Vice defeated Kelani Jordan to win the tournament, earning a future NXT Women’s Championship match.

WWE NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament to begin next week

The NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament begins on next week’s NXT.

A video package shown on Tuesday’s show announced that Riley Osborne, Keanu Carver, Tavion Heights, Dion Lennox, Luca Crusifino, Myles Borne, Trey Bearhill, and Oba Femi will participate in the tournament, with matches beginning next week.

Borne, Crusifino, and Femi have appeared on NXT television before. Borne is part of a stable with Drew Gulak, Charlie Dempsey, and Damon Kemp. Crusifino briefly feuded with Von Wagner back in May, and Femi defeated Oro Mensah on NXT back in April and hasn’t appeared on TV since.

Back in October, Cody Rhodes announced that after the Women’s Breakout Tournament, there would be a Men’s Breakout Tournament. Rhodes also announced the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic would be making a return.

A match between Gallus and Hank Walker & Tank Ledger was also made for next week. Walker and Ledger confronted Gallus at a bar, issuing a challenge. Gallus accepted.

Here is the lineup for next week’s NXT:

  • Men’s Breakout Tournament begins
  • Gallus vs. Hank Walker & Tank Ledger

Cody Rhodes announces return of two WWE NXT tournaments

Two WWE NXT tournaments are set to make their return.

Going into tonight’s NXT, WWE hyped that Cody Rhodes would be making a major announcement. Rhodes kicked off the show and revealed that the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and Men’s Breakout Tournament will both be returning.

Rhodes said the Men’s Breakout Tournament will begin following the conclusion of the ongoing Women’s Breakout Tournament. A timeline for when the Dusty Classic will start wasn’t revealed.

In 2015, the Dusty Classic was established in honor of the late “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes. The tournament has been held every year since then except for 2017. There was both a men’s Dusty Classic and a women’s Dusty Classic each of the past two years.

Finn Balor & Samoa Joe, The Authors of Pain, Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly, Aleister Black & Ricochet, Matt Riddle & Pete Dunne, MSK, Dakota Kai & Raquel Rodriguez, The Creed Brothers, and Kay Lee Ray & Io Shirai are past Dusty Classic winners.

There have been two previous editions of the Men’s Breakout Tournament. They were won by Jordan Myles (ACH) and Carmelo Hayes.

The Dusty Classic and Men’s Breakout Tournament winners will all earn future title shots. WWE has yet to reveal the participants for the tournaments.

Rhodes also announced that he’s the guest general manager for tonight’s NXT episode. Rhodes booked an NXT Championship match with Ilja Dragunov defending against Dominik Mysterio for later in the show. LA Knight will be the special guest referee for that match.
