TNA extends contracts of commentary team

Tom Hannifan and Matthew Rehwoldt are sticking around as the voices of TNA Wrestling.

While speaking with Sports Illustrated’s The Takedown, TNA President Carlos Silva confirmed that the promotion has extended the contracts of Hannifan and Rehwoldt. The two anchor TNA’s broadcast team with Hannifan serving as the play-by-play voice of the company and Rehwoldt working alongside him as the color commentator.

The Takedown says the length of their renewals is not known at this time.

“Silva told The Takedown on SI in a new interview to be dropped later this week that the company recently extended Hannifan and Rehwoldt’s contracts. The length of the renewals is unclear,” the article said. “He also noted McKenzie Mitchell will remain in her role as the promotion’s ring announcer.”

Both Hannifan and Rehwoldt formerly worked for WWE, where they were known as Tom Phillips and Aiden English prior to their respective releases. Rehwoldt transitioned to commentary near the end of his WWE run before later making it his full-time focus.

The two have been TNA’s commentary team since 2022. Hannifan recently got emotional speaking about how hard everyone in TNA works trying to make the promotion great.

TNA is on the road to Bound for Glory 2025, with the pay-per-view set to take place in Lowell, Massachusetts on October 12.

The Vaudevillains to reunite at House of Glory event

A former WWE tag team is reuniting for the first time in over six years.

Matthew Rehwoldt & Simon Gotch, former NXT Tag Team Champions The Vaudevillains, will be in action for House of Glory in Queens, New York on Friday, September 15. The show is named Fallout and is taking place at the NYC Arena. It will air live on Premier Streaming Network.

Rehwoldt (formerly known as Aiden English) & Gotch haven’t teamed together since 2017.

Rehwoldt & Gotch revealed last month that they would be reuniting on the indies. Rehwoldt, who stepped away from in-ring action in August 2022, stated that he would be taking a few wrestling bookings this year.

Rehwoldt is a commentator for Impact Wrestling, calling the show alongside Tom Hannifan.

“The former NXT Tag Team Champions have set their sights on HOG’s tag team division,” House of Glory wrote. “Who will they face at Fallout? Stay tuned to HOG Wrestling social media channels for match announcements.”

Matt Cardona and El Hijo del Vikingo are among the other wrestlers who will be in action at Fallout.

Matthew Rehwoldt stepping away from the ring, will focus on commentary

Matthew Rehwoldt (formerly known as Aiden English in WWE) is stepping away from the ring and will instead focus on his pro wrestling commentary career.

In a tweet posted on Friday night, Rehwoldt announced that he will no longer be taking bookings to wrestle. Rehwoldt wrote that he loves the broadcasting side of wrestling and will continue to do commentary but isn’t sure he belongs in the ring anymore.

“So here you go: I will no longer be taking bookings to wrestle going forward. I’ve always been most at home with a mic in front of me and am in love with the broadcast side of the biz. I’m not sure I feel I belong in the ring anymore and this year has taught me that,” Rehwoldt tweeted.

“But I love what I’m doing now and am still technically a free agent so if you have a company/promotion that needs an entertaining and experienced voice on the mic hit me up! All in addition to continuing to explore esports/gaming, VO [voice over], and content!”

Rehwoldt is a color commentator for Impact Wrestling and NJPW Strong. He had also wrestled for both promotions in his post-WWE career.

Rehwoldt was released by WWE in April 2020. While with the company, he was a one-time NXT Tag Team Champion as part of The Vaudevillains and also was aligned with Rusev on the main roster.
