The Miz claims Maryse does not get enough credit that she deserves for her WWE tenure as an in-ring competitor and other contributions.
Speaking with Complex Graps Wrestling Podcast, Miz discussed working with Maryse on-screen in WWE. He revisited their first meeting when he was the host of the now-defunct Divas Search. Miz proceeded to discuss the success of their reality series, Miz & Mrs, and proclaimed that Maryse does not receive the credit she deserves for her WWE contributions.
“Every time we are on camera together it just creates magic. It creates some sort of special moment that people talk about, that people remember. And that’s a testament to, sure, me, but I tell you what, the more is Maryse. You want to talk about people getting flowers, she never gets her flowers. She never gets the credit that she deserves. When she was a Divas Champion, a Women’s Champion in WWE. This was a time when girls got maybe a minute on TV, and you had to get your character over, get people over, get people talking, get people booing, get people cheering, get people reacting. And she was able to do that in the minute, the two minutes that she would get.”
“And then moving on to Miz & Mrs and the Intercontinental Title run that we had. She was the reason Miz & Mrs came about and the success of Miz & Mrs.”
Maryse was associated with WWE first from 2006 to 2011 and then later made sporadic appearances for segments with The Miz, and at times accompanied him for his matches. Her last WWE match was a tag team bout with The Miz against Edge and Beth Phoenix at the 2022 Royal Rumble. Maryse is also a two-time Divas Champion in her WWE career.
Maryse has also been a part of a few vignettes on SmackDown in April this year amid Miz’s rivalry with Danhausen.
She returned to renew her vows with The Miz in Las Vegas with Kit Wilson acting as the officiant. However, Wilson mispoke and asked Miz to “curse” the bride.
Danhausen, lurking around, took the cue and emerged from nowhere to curse Maryse. However, The Miz proceeded to attack and choke Danhausen. The scuffle led to Maryse getting knocked into the wedding cake.
This was Maryse’s first television appearance since Evolution 2 in 2025, where she was shown sitting in the crowd and enjoying the show. It is currently unknown if Maryse is back on the roster or if this was just a one-time appearance.
Maryse and The Miz got married over a decade ago in 2014 in The Bahamas and share two children.
Former WWE star Maryse Mizanin says that she is tumor-free after receiving a rare pre-cancer diagnosis and undergoing a total hysterectomy.
In a post to Instagram on Thursday, Maryse revealed that her hysterectomy was successful, as was the staging of lymph nodes in her abdomen, and that her Primary Peritoneal Serous Borderline Tumors had not spread to the nodes or other parts of her body.
Maryse again noted the rarity of receiving such a diagnosis, mentioning that only seven cases per million women in the United States are found each year. She also posted that the next steps in her recovery will include following up with specialists in Houston at the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Maryse last wrestled for WWE in 2022 at the Royal Rumble, teaming with husband Mike “The Miz” Mizanin against Beth Phoenix & Edge.
The 41-year-old is a two-time former WWE Divas Champion, with her full-time WWE run lasting from 2006 to 2011. She rejoined the company in 2016, primarily working as a manager for The Miz. She has continued to make sporadic special appearances in the years since, and has starred alongside Miz in the Miz & Mrs. reality show on USA.
On Saturday, Maryse (Maryse Mizanin) opened up about a rare health condition that she’s battling.
Maryse revealed that she’ll be undergoing a total hysterectomy in four weeks after 11 implants that were found to be Serious Borderline Tumors were removed from her body. Maryse will be having her uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix, and omentum removed. Her abdominal lymph nodes will also be removed for staging to determine the extent of the issue.
Maryse stated that, for the past year, she’s been dealing with severe abdominal distention and bloating. She had gastrointestinal issues, extreme fatigue, and wasn’t feeling like herself. The symptoms would come in flare-ups but kept getting worse until they were chronic. Despite seeing different doctors and undergoing different tests, no one could figure out what was wrong. Maryse says she was told to let it go and that the issue would figure itself out over time.
But Maryse refused to give up. She thanked her doctor Thais Aliabadi for listening to her and saving her life. A week ago, Maryse underwent surgery for what was suspected to be endometriosis disease. Eleven implants were found and removed. After testing, they were determined to be Serious Borderline Tumors, a “very rare pre-cancer of the ovaries.”
“Very sneaky and aggressive,” Maryse wrote. “If those became cancer, the survival rate is less than a year.”
Maryse says she’s staying positive and is determined to beat this. Her full statement that was posted to Instagram can be read below:
Here’s a superhero I want to take the time to highlight. Her name is Thais Aliabadi, Oby-Gyn, in LA. She saved my life.
I couldn’t be more blessed to have crossed paths in life with this brilliant, uber talented, patient, attentive and genuinely caring woman!
A little background on what happened; I had been suffering from severe abdominal distention and swelling to the point where I would look 6 months pregnant. Lots of GI issues, including sibo, multiple rounds of antibiotics, extreme fatigue and just wasn’t feeling like myself! For the past year, my symptoms would come in flare ups and it progressively got worse – it became chronic.
I saw countless doctors in different fields, but no diagnosis. No one could tell me what’s happening. I went down an incredibly long list of testing, from colonoscopy/endoscopy/pill cam endoscopy, mri’s, ultrasounds, ct scans, blood tests just to name a few and often would be told that its probably hormonal and or just something by body is allergic too. I even had my entire house tested for mold. I was told to let it go – that it would figure itself out with time. That I’m just too impatient and making myself crazy over this! I would just not quit on trying to figure it out!
From the start when I met Thais at her office in LA, she listened to my story, truly listened. She heard me (a doctor’s quality that makes a tremendous difference) and agreed that we have to push to get to the bottom of this. She always said “No one knows your body better than you.” She proposed we go in there and find out. I was ready.
A week ago I went into surgery with Dr. Thais. She performed a Laparoscopy surgery for what we thought at the time was potentially Endometriosis disease!
She found and removed 11 implants around my uterus, ovaries, and all connective tissues around the organs in my abdominal cavity. These were sent to pathology for testing.
3 days later… the labs came back. No endometriosis.
All 11 implants came back as Serous Borderline Tumors. A very rare pre-cancer of the ovaries. Very sneaky and aggressive. If those became cancer, the survival rate is less than a year.
So what happens next? I am scheduled for total hysterectomy surgery in 4 weeks. My uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix, omentum will be removed and will get abdominal lymph nodes removed for staging.
I’m remaining positive and determined to beat this thing. There is only one option and it’s winning this battle! As a mom of two young daughters, I have too.
Let’s bring light to a huge woman healthcare issue here. Women get so conditioned to believe that is it normal to suffer, most often in silence. Told to stop being a cry baby. That it must be hormonal imbalances, just anxiety or just all in your head. This is not normal. This cycle has to be broken! If you get dismissed by a doctor, go see a new one until you get the help you need! Advocacy is the key. Advocate for yourself and keep pushing! Follow your instincts. Never ever underestimate your gut feelings!
Thank you to @drthaisaliabadi and her amazing team of nurses. You guys truly make a difference for so many women!!
I have an angel on my shoulder protecting me, THANK YOU DAD
Maryse last wrestled in January 2022, teaming with her husband The Miz (Mike Mizanin) against Edge & Beth Phoenix at that year’s Royal Rumble. Maryse and Miz have been married since 2014 and have two daughters together.
Maryse’s return was announced on this week’s episode during a Miz TV segment. Maryse’s return will come on the same night that Season 3 of Miz & Mrs. premieres on USA Network, immediately following Raw.
Maryse last appeared on the February 14 Raw during a segment involving The Miz and Rey Mysterio. Prior to that appearance, Maryse returned to the ring for the first time since 2018 at the 2022 Royal Rumble, teaming with The Miz against Edge and Beth Phoenix in a mixed tag team match. Edge and Phoenix won that contest.
The Monday, June 6 Raw, the post-Hell in a Cell edition of the show, will take place in Green Bay, Wisconsin at the Resch Center. Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins in a dark match, plus Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch appearances have been included in local advertising for the event.
Season three of “Miz & Mrs” is making its debut in less than a month.
WWE and USA Network have announced that season three of “Miz & Mrs” will kick off with a two-episode premiere after Raw on Monday, June 6. The episodes will air at 11 and 11:30 p.m. Eastern time.
The trailer for the new season is available to watch below:
Last October, it was confirmed that “Miz & Mrs” had been picked up for a 10-episode third season. The Miz made an Instagram post on March 30 celebrating that filming on the new season had wrapped.
One of the topics that will be covered on the season is Maryse returning to the ring at this year’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Edge & Beth Phoenix defeated Miz & Maryse in a mixed tag team match at the PPV. It was Maryse’s first match in more than three years.
“Miz & Mrs” first premiered on USA Network in 2018. The unscripted series is produced by WWE and Bunim/Murray Productions. In addition to starring in the show, Miz and Maryse are both executive producers.
A mixed tag team match has been set for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view on January 29.
Edge and wife Beth Phoenix will team together to take on The Miz and his wife, Maryse. The match was made following a segment on tonight’s Raw that had Miz confront Edge over the events of Day 1 this past Saturday.
Miz accused Edge of hiding behind his wife Phoenix, who made her WWE TV return at Day 1 as Maryse was on the apron distracting the referee. That allowed Edge to spear a distracted Miz for the win. Phoenix, on Raw, said that it was all her idea. Edge then suggested the tag match for the Royal Rumble. Miz didn’t seem too enthused about taking the match, but Phoenix eventually pressured him into accepting, which Maryse didn’t like.
Edge and Miz have been feuding following Edge’s arrival to Raw following the Royal Rumble. Since returning from Dancing with the Stars, Maryse has been at Miz’s side. After attempting to fool Edge by teasing a split, Miz and Maryse renewed their vows last week on Raw. However, Edge interrupted the proceedings, leading to a “Brood bath”, where some sort of colored liquid fell from the ceiling landed on the two.
Beth Phoenix made her WWE return tonight at Day 1, aiding husband Edge during his match with The Miz.
Miz throughout the match had plenty of help with wife Maryse at ringside. Towards the end of the match, Maryse hit Edge with a bag that allowed Miz to score a close pinfall following a skull crushing finale. As Maryse was arguing with the referee on the apron, Phoenix appeared on the entrance ramp and headed toward the ring, driving Maryse away. Miz and Phoenix exchanged words as Edge recovered. When Miz turned around, Edge hit the spear and pinned Miz to win the match.
Phoenix had been an NXT commentator from 2019 until last month, when she announced that she would be stepping away from announcer duties. Her last appearance was at NXT War Games.
Edge has been feuding with Miz since he was traded to Raw as part of the 2021 WWE Draft. When The Miz returned to WWE television, Maryse returned as well, with the current feud revolving around Miz & Maryse’s relationship.
Edge ruined The Miz & Maryse’s wedding vow renewal on Raw’s go-home show for Day 1.
The wedding vow renewal segment took place in the main event of last night’s show. It featured an appearance by the returning Eric Bischoff, who served as the officiant for the ceremony..
At the end of the ceremony, Bischoff asked if anyone had any objections. Bischoff said we all knew how this was going to turn out — and Edge’s music hit. Edge came out to the ring and claimed that he wasn’t there to ruin anything. Edge said he could talk about how obnoxious Miz and Maryse are, but he won’t do that. Edge said he wasn’t going to talk about what kind of man Miz was for using Maryse as a shield. Edge said he won’t do those things because he has a match against Miz at Day 1 and is going to kick his ass.
Miz said he knew Edge was going to try and ruin the ceremony — and he wanted Edge to have a front row seat to see what true love looks like. Edge told Miz and Maryse to get a room when they started to kiss.
Edge admitted that Miz and Maryse had embarrassed him over the last few weeks. Edge said he was going to embarrass Miz before Day 1. When Miz got paranoid after that, Edge claimed that he was just messing with Miz and playing mind games.
But Edge then asked Miz and Maryse if they wanted this to be a white wedding. The lights went out and The Brood’s theme music hit. Black liquid rained on Miz and Maryse as the show ended.
Eric Bischoff made a guest appearance on tonight’s Raw as an official for the wedding renewal vows between The Miz and Maryse.
Bischoff appeared in a backstage segment and thanked the Miz for letting him be the official. He officiated the vows in the main event segment of the program that was eventually ruined by Edge.
Bischoff had left the company back in October of 2019 after briefly serving as an executive director of SmackDown. He has made several appearances on AEW television since 2020, including an appearance back in May of this year, hosting a party featuring Inner Circle members. He was also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame earlier this year.
The main event of Raw had Miz and Maryse exchanging vows. Eric Bischoff eventually interrupted himself, saying that everyone knows where this is going. This led to Edge coming out and running down Miz. After mentioning that he hoped they weren’t expecting a white wedding, The Brood’s music played and what appeared to be blood fell from the ceiling, landing on Miz and Maryse.
Date: December 27, 2021 Location: Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, MI
The Big Takeaway —
Much of Raw felt pretty normal but a large chuck was very obviously affected by a large number of absences.
Eric Bischoff appeared as the officiant in the Miz and Maryse wedding vow renewal ceremony. Edge interrupted and doused Miz and Maryse in a “blood” bath.
Big E, Becky Lynch, Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley, Omos, Liv Morgan, and Robert Roode were among those not on tonight’s show.
Show Recap —
Randy Orton and Riddle entered as the announcers ran down tonight’s show. They seemed to get a big reaction. (Riddle had a Christmas card but Orton chucked it aside.) Riddle was acting like Riddle until Orton cut him off and said the only thing that would make him happy heading into the new year is if he beat Otis right now.
Riddle said he was off last week to do some self-reflecting. He wanted to find his inner viper but he started turning green and he began growing scales. Orton suggested he see a doctor. Orton showed a replay of his match last week and Riddle acted like showing something on the big screen was magic.
Riddle did some more comedy that got no reaction whatsoever until Orton cut him off again when Riddle claimed that he was Randy’s best friend.
They were interrupted by Chad Gable and Otis. Gable put over Otis before speaking of his own Master’s degree and 4.0 GPA. Gable received some boos, so he insulted the mindless Detroit crowd for booing education. He said Orton had no chance against Otis and warned them that they would be the next champions.
Riddle finally did get a reaction when he said they were a fan of “higher” education. He challenged Gable to a match right now. Gable called him an ignoramus before accepting. Riddle told Gable to get his big, beautiful brain in the ring so he could give him an RKO.
Tag Team Champion Riddle (w/Randy Orton) defeated Chad Gable (w/Otis) (4:00)
Gable used a Tiger suplex for a nearfall before Riddle blocked a moonsault attempt. Gable applied an ankle lock but Riddle rolled out of it. Gable tried a rolling German suplex but Riddle flipped out of that before hitting a floating bro for the pinfall win.
This was good for four minutes but they could obviously have a much better match with more time. The crowd was into Riddle during the match (just not during his comedy bit earlier).
Otis attacked Riddle and waited for Orton to enter the ring as they went to break.
Tag Team Champion Randy Orton (w/Riddle) defeated Otis (w/Chad Gable) (3:28)
Otis easily blocked a couple of RKO attempts but ran into the steel steps after Orton dodged a charge. Orton followed with a draping DDT but Otis blocked the RKO again and hit a World’s Strongest Slam. Otis didn’t go for a cover and instead went for a Vader Bomb but Orton avoided it and hit an RKO for the pinfall win.
After the match, Riddle told Orton how proud he was for hitting that RKO and told him it was time for his present. Riddle said there was nothing more appropriate than a big hug.
Orton hesitated before giving Riddle a hug. Orton teased giving him an RKO but they both laughed and hugged again before Orton walked away. That bit was good.

Kevin Patrick interviewed Kevin Owens. Patrick aired a promo that Big E sent in (via cell phone video) where he spoke about the importance of being the champion and why he would retain the title at Day 1. Big E said this was about his story, getting to the top, and knowing you didn’t come this far to only come this far.
Owens mocked Big E for saying how much it meant to be there every week — except this week — before telling Kevin Patrick that he needed a new first name. Owens said he would be the next champion. Before he left, Owens told Patrick that his name was Bert now. (Owens got a few laughs during this interview.)

Veer Mahaan is coming.
Mixed tag team match: 24/7 Champion Dana Brooke & Reggie defeated Tamina & R-Truth (2:47)
The announcers seemed to be under the impression that the women and men couldn’t be in the ring at the same time but that’s not how the referee was calling it. Tamina gave Reggie a superkick at one point. Reggie eventually pinned Truth with a rollup for the win.
Tamina tried attacking Truth after the match but he did the splits to avoid it. Brooke knocked down Tamina with a handspring elbow.
********
Megan Morant interviewed Nikki ASH. Nikki was under the impression that she inspired Rhea Ripley to win her match last week. Nikki challenged Queen Zelina and Carmella to a tag title match last week. Nikki, a real human adult, closed her interview by saying, “boom, zap, kapow!”
[Second Hour]
There was a long video package for Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar at Day 1.
The Street Profits defeated Dominik & Rey Mysterio (12:06)
The Mysterios had the edge before a commercial break but Montez Ford was randomly in control over Dominik following the break. Dominik hit some sort of counter before Rey tagged in and hit Angelo Dawkins with a seated senton and springboard crossbody. Dawkins avoided a 619 and hit a spinning back elbow for two. Rey also hit a tornado DDT for two.
Dawkins gave Rey a Silencer and Ford followed with a big-time frog splash but Dominik broke up the cover. Rey gave Ford a 619 before wiping out Dawkins with a dive. Dominik gave Ford a frog splash for a very close nearfall.
They set up Ford for a double 619 but Dawkins knocked down Rey. Dominik did hit a 619 but Dawkins caught him on his shoulders and Ford hit a blockbuster for the pinfall win. The Street Profits will face Orton and Riddle for the tag titles.
Fun match but Dominik stuck out as a weak link. From that standpoint, the right team won.
********
Backstage, the Miz yelled at some guy for getting him the wrong flowers. Miz introduced his special officiant for tonight — Eric Bischoff. Bischoff showed up and was excited to be part of this ceremony after already being part of a few WWE weddings in the past.
*******
There was a video package for AJ Styles vs. Omos (which was originally scheduled for tonight).
AJ Styles promo
Styles wondered where Omos was and wondered if he was afraid to live up to his expectations. Styles admitted to being afraid of that very thing early in his own career but he was never selfish or unappreciative. Styles said Omos had to pay his dues. Styles himself has had 20 years of experience and threatened to kick in Omos’ teeth when they finally meet in the ring.
Styles noticed Grayson Waller being loud in the front row. Styles introduced him to the WWE audience. Waller figured he would visit Styles on Raw after he was visited on NXT. Waller noted how easy it was to get under Styles’ skin. He planned on taking Styles’ spot after Omos was done with him.
Styles said this is where stars were made but Waller was no star. Styles offered to show him around and offered to give him a Phenomenal forearm so he could count the lights.
Apollo Crews and Commander Azeez interrupted. Commander Azeez challenged Styles to a fight since Omos wasn’t there. Styles didn’t hesitate to accept.
Styles was definitely a babyface here.
********
Morant interviewed Carmella and asked about Nikki’s title challenge. Carmella said she spoke with Zelina and they accepted. Carmella out over Ripley but said a tag match between the two would be no problem once Nikki got in the ring.
********
Not only did they not do Styles vs. Omos (which is fine if Omos couldn’t be there) but they didn’t even do Styles vs. Azeez which they just announced. The commentators said that Crews demanded the match during the commercial break, so that’s what we got instead.
AJ Styles defeated Apollo Crews (w/Commander Azeez) (10:42)
Styles was in control until Crews dropped him on the apron before a break. Styles fought back with a Pelé kick, strike combo, forearm, and Ushigoroshi for a nearfall. Crews came back with a sit-out powerbomb for two. Styles responded with a moonsault into a reverse DDT but Azeez pulled Crews from the ring. Styles went after him but Crews hit a fireman’s carry on the apron for a nearfall.
They traded moves until Styles hit a Styles Clash for the pinfall win.
The finishing sequence was a bit clunky but this was mostly pretty good.
After the match, Styles laid out Azeez with a Phenomenal forearm.
********
They aired a cell phone video promo that Seth Rollins did from his home. He didn’t say anything interesting.
[Third Hour]
Kevin Owens promo
Owens was in a great mood. He claimed he won a big match at Madison Square Garden last night but advised us not to look it up. (He lost to Edge in a cage match.)
Owens said he was the only one from the upcoming WWE title match that was here tonight and that made him smarter than Rollins, tougher than Big E, and stronger than Bobby Lashley. He couldn’t blame them for not wanting to be in Detroit, though. He went on for a bit before saying he would be our next WWE Champion.
MVP interrupted. He issued a warning on behalf of Lashley and called Owens stupid for thinking he would win on Saturday. Owens said his mom thinks he’s special.
Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander entered. Owens basically cut their promo for them and challenged Alexander to a match before they do it themselves.
(Between this segment and the Styles promo/match, this show is definitely showing the effects of whatever script changes needed to happen because of whatever mysterious thing is causing so many people to miss the show.)
Kevin Owens defeated Cedric Alexander (w/Shelton Benjamin) (3:16)
Alexander got some offense but Owens won with a pop-up powerbomb and stunner.
Owens also gave Benjamin a stunner after the match.
(Funny enough, the match time I got was 3:16.)
********
Dolph Ziggler entered, they went to commercial break, and upon return from break, Mike Rome was in the ring and introduced a long video package for the Liv Morgan/Becky Lynch feud.
They aired a promo by Damian Priest from earlier today. He said everyone has darkness in them. He does his best to control his own, but last week, his darkness — Damian — came out. When his blind rage comes out, there’s nothing anyone can do about it. He knows that can work against him against a multi-time champion like Dolph Ziggler. But to be clear, the rage that has cost him in the past is the same thing that would ensure he remains champion.
This was dumb and didn’t make any sense.
Commercial break.
US Championship match: Dolph Ziggler defeated Damian Priest via DQ (10:23)
Priest chucked Ziggler over the barricade into the timekeeper’s area, onto a pile of chairs, which led to another break — three minutes into the match.
Ziggler hit a fameasser shortly after the break for two. Priest came back with a spinning heel kick, back elbows, flapjack, and broken arrow for two. Ziggler reversed a chokeslam into a rollup for two before hitting a leaping DDT for two.
Ziggler began taunting Priest which caused Priest to turn into a cartoon. Priest hammered away on Ziggler in the corner and the ref called for a DQ because he wouldn’t stop after a five count. The portion of the crowd that’s still awake groaned and booed lightly.
After the match, Priest drove Ziggler into the barricade before giving him a Reckoning.
********
Miz & Maryse renew their wedding vows with officiant Eric Bischoff
Bischoff entered to his music before a break.
Bischoff was happy to be back and he introduced Miz. Miz tripped on his way into the ring, which wasn’t planned. Miz, Bischoff and the crowd got a good laugh out of it. Maryse entered next wearing a fancy white dress. Because of what just happened, Miz helped her in the ring, which was funny.
Miz insulted Edge, spoke about Maryse and put over Bischoff. Maryse spoke about Miz and the crowd booed over her vows. Maryse said she wanted him to beat Edge and asked if he wanted to continue being married.
Miz claimed Maryse didn’t speak a word of English when they met 15 years ago so he (poorly) did his vows in French. Maryse let him know that parts of his speech were in Spanish. She let him continue in English. Miz said if he were a woman, he would want to be Maryse. He asked if she wanted to continue being his wife. The crowd booed. Maryse said yes.
Bischoff was ecstatic. He asked if anyone had any objections while admitting he knew exactly what always happens in these situations. Edge interrupted.
Edge claimed he wasn’t here to cause trouble. He was ready to beat Miz’s ass at Day 1. Miz and Maryse said they knew Edge would interrupt but they wanted to give him a front-row seat to what true love looked like. Edge admitted that they got the upper hand the past few weeks but he planned on embarrassing Miz before Day 1.
Edge asked if they wanted a white wedding. The Brood’s music went off and black liquid dropped from the ceiling — covering Miz and Maryse (Bischoff got some too). Edge laughed at them as the show ended.
(I’m not a fan of this feud but Miz and Maryse were entertaining in this segment. Bischoff was good too.)
The Miz & Maryse will “renew their wedding vows” on Raw’s go-home show for Day 1.
“The most must-see wedding in WWE history is upon us,” WWE announced today. “Fresh off getting the better of Edge on his own talk show last week, The Miz and Maryse are in a celebratory mood. They plan to celebrate their love in front of the WWE Universe as they get set to renew their wedding vows this Monday on Raw.
“There is no telling what can happen when a wedding takes place in a WWE ring, but one thing is guaranteed: It will be awesome. Don’t miss their vow renewal on Raw live this Monday at 8/7 C on USA Network!”
On Raw last week, there was dissension between The Miz and Maryse after Miz used Maryse as a human shield to avoid a spear from Edge. When Edge held up so he wouldn’t hit Maryse, Miz laid him out with the Skull Crushing Finale.
Maryse was then the guest on Edge’s Cutting Edge talk show this past Monday. Edge wasn’t buying that the issues between Miz and Maryse were real and believed they were trying to set him up. Edge was right, and he fought off The Miz when Miz tried to ambush him. But Edge’s attention was turned away when Maryse hit him with her purse and slapped him. That allowed Miz to give Edge the Skull Crushing Finale again.
The Miz will face Edge at WWE’s Day 1 pay-per-view on Saturday, January 1.
Monday’s Raw is taking place at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Here’s the updated lineup for the show:
AJ Styles vs. Omos
United States Champion Damian Priest defends against Dolph Ziggler
Finn Balor vs. Austin Theory
Randy Orton vs. Otis
RK-Bronament finals: The Street Profits vs. Rey & Dominik Mysterio (winning team will become the number one contenders to Randy Orton & Riddle’s Raw Tag Team titles)
Date: December 20, 2021 Location: Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, WI
The Big Takeaway —
Omos split from AJ Styles and the two are scheduled to wrestle next week. (Styles is also set to appear on NXT tomorrow.)
Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins laid out Big E and Bobby Lashley to end the show. Lashley was treated as the real threat and they focused most of their attention on him.
Riddle and The Street Profits were not on the show.
Show Recap —
Bobby Lashley & MVP promo
Lashley and MVP entered to start the show. MVP recapped what Lashley accomplished last week and said the fans couldn’t understand what it took to do that. He compared it to winning the Boston Marathon and getting a triple-double in an NBA game before knocking out Francis Ngannou in a fight.
Big E interrupted. He congratulated Lashley on getting his way into the title match. There was something bothering him, though. The Lashley he knew was a fighter with a lot of sisters (he paused when he heard a few people laughing) but this Lashley relied on Iceberg Slim (MVP) to win. Lashley said MVP acted on his own but he also wasn’t pretending to be a saint.
Lashley remembered MVP saying that if he couldn’t beat Big E, MVP would do it himself. Lashley thought that would be a great thing to see so he left the ring to let MVP go after Big E. MVP obviously wasn’t too interested in doing this but he held up his cane as Big E waited for him to make a move.
Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens suddenly attacked Lashley from behind before going after Big E. Lashley and Big E wound up fighting off Rollins and Owens who bailed. Big E and Lashley stood in the ring together as the segment ended.
********
Sarah Schrieber interviewed Bianca Belair. Schreiber claimed that people were calling her upcoming match against Doudrop “the final chapter.” Belair figured Doudrop was the only one calling it that. Belair issued a warning to Doudrop.
********
Owens and Rollins argued in the back. Owens said Lashley didn’t seem to be getting older and was like a super-jacked Benjamin Button. Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville showed up to make a tag match. Owens immediately knew where this was going but Rollins didn’t. They announced Owens and Rollins against Big E and Lashley later tonight.
********
Bianca Belair defeated Doudrop (11:23)
Doudrop was mostly in control until Belair gave her a spinebuster outside the ring which led to break three minutes into the match. After the break, Doudrop missed a Banzai Drop but hit a cannonball for two. Belair fought back with shoulder tackles, flying crossbody, and handspring moonsault for two. Doudrop responded with a sit-out powerbomb but didn’t make a cover.
Doudrop dragged Belair to the corner but missed a Vader Bomb and Belair nailed a KOD for the pinfall win.
This wasn’t a good match but this was all about the finish. The crowd popped big for the spot.
********
Kevin Patrick asked Austin Theory about Vince McMahon taking an interest in him. Theory figured McMahon sees promise in him and sees him as the future WWE Champion. After an excited Theory walked away, Patrick said, “you better hope you don’t lose.”
Finn Bálor defeated Austin Theory (9:07)
Bálor was aggressive early but Theory took over after wrenching him over the top rope. After a long chinlock, Bálor fought back with a low dropkick and clothesline. Theory blocked a kick and dropped Bálor on the apron before hitting a draping neckbreaker to the outside.
After a break, Bálor was back in a rest hold until he came back with a back elbow, forearm, and double foot stomp. Theory hit a rolling dropkick but Bálor dropped him with an enziguri.
Bálor went to the top but Theory hit a very cool-looking springboard Spanish Fly. Theory grabbed his phone so he could take a selfie while making the cover but the extra time allowed Bálor to kick out.
After a few counters, Bálor hit a shotgun dropkick and Coup de Grace for the pinfall win.

Miz spoke with Omos in the back but left after AJ Styles showed up. Styles told Omos he was ready to get back in the title picture. Omos feigned excitement.
[Second Hour]
Miz TV with AJ Styles & Omos
Miz started by saying he loved Maryse and implored her not to speak about their personal lives on the Cutting Edge tonight.
Miz introduced Styles and Omos by saying they were more combustible than Urban Meyer and his coaching staff.
Miz said Styles and Omos have been out of sync lately and Styles immediately quipped, “kind of like you and your wife, right?” Styles said he took Omos under his wing and he’s come a long way — he’s good enough to be tag team champions on his own. He admitted they had some problems but they were on the same page. Styles wanted them to take all of the titles in WWE.
Miz heard from Omos himself that he doesn’t agree with that. Styles said Miz was just deflecting like he always does and asked what kind of man puts his wife in harm’s way. Miz accused Styles of deflecting. Miz claimed Omos told him that he was tired of carrying Styles.
Miz said it took 15 years for Styles to get to WWE but WWE begged Omos to sign with them. Miz went on until Styles cut him off. Styles wanted to hear a response from Omos.
Before Omos could respond, Rey and Dominik Mysterio’s music went off and they entered for their match and Miz TV just ended.

Dominik & Rey Mysterio defeated AJ Styles & Omos (2:26)
Rey hit a 619 but Styles got his knees up on a frog splash. Styles wanted a tag but Omos turned his shoulder before Rey applied a schoolboy for the pinfall win.
After the match, Styles called Omos a piece of trash. Omos shoved Styles away so Styles attacked him. Styles tried a Phenomenal Forearm but Omos blocked it and hit a press slam. Omos told Styles that the next time he saw him it would be in a match.
It wasn’t really clear who the babyface was supposed to be here. They both still seem like heels.
(They randomly mentioned on commentary that Styles would be on NXT tomorrow, presumably to address Grayson Waller.)

In the back, Theory wanted to knock on Vince McMahon’s door but he decided against it.
Tag Team Champion Randy Orton defeated Chad Gable (w/Otis) (2:58)
Gable outwrestled Orton for a bit and even countered a draping DDT. However, after Gable tried one too many arm drags, Orton saw it coming and hit a great-looking RKO for the pinfall win.
Otis went after Orton after the match and Orton tried the RKO three different times but Otis blocked it each time.

MVP approached Lashley in the back. Lashley said he couldn’t trust Big E and would beat him up if he even looked at him wrong in their match. MVP asked if Lashley’s idea earlier was a trap. Lashley said he was thirsty and asked MVP to get him a drink. MVP went to get him one.
There was footage from earlier today of Dana Brooke and Reggie at some sort of indoor Christmas park. Truth dressed as Santa, Akira Tozawa dressed as an elf, and Tamina failed to capture the 24/7 title from Brooke.

Non-title match: Dolph Ziggler (w/Robert Roode) defeated US Champion Damian Priest via countout (8:59)
They were off a lot in this match. Ziggler kicked Priest in the knee at one point before just falling onto the bottle rope.
A few moments later, Ziggler hit a superplex which led to break two minutes into the match. Priest came back with strikes, a clothesline and a Broken Arrow for two. As the referee checked on Ziggler, Roode wiped out Priest which caused him to transform into a cartoon. Priest wildly attacked Roode and the ref called for the bell.
They announced that Ziggler won by countout and the commentators figured he just earned a title match. Priest chased off Ziggler before giving Roode a Reckoning outside the ring.
Nothing about this made me want to see a rematch.

Bálor told Patrick that he beat Theory’s ass and it was time for more important things. Theory attacked Bálor and dropped him on an equipment box before taking a selfie.
[Third Hour]
Theory approached Vince in his office. He apologized for losing but said he made up for it by attacking Bálor again. Vince responded but I didn’t understand much outside of him saying he enjoyed firing people right before the holidays.
Vince also gave Theory a rematch against Bálor next week. Vince erased something from his page and blew the eraser shavings in Theory’s face. Vince then chuckled like Santa Claus. (Yes, this was strange.)

The Cutting Edge with Maryse
Maryse made it clear she wasn’t here to be Edge’s friend. She said she did love Miz but wanted a thank you. She mentioned everything she does for him and their family, but she was tired and exhausted. Maryse said Edge could have hurt her last week and she wondered who would take care of her kids if something happened to her. The crowd was dead silent for this.
Maryse asked Edge if he would do this to Beth. Edge said he wasn’t buying this and the crowd wasn’t either. Edge wondered where Miz was because he figured this was their plan. Edge said he would never do this to Beth because he actually respected her. Edge called out Miz.
Miz’s music hit and he tried attacking from behind but Edge saw him coming. Edge fought Miz off but Maryse attacked Edge from behind. This allowed Miz to give Edge a Skull Crushing Finale (like he did last week). Miz and Maryse celebrated together.
This was lame. Edge was smart enough to see this coming but still got beat up.

Rhea Ripley defeated Tag Team Champion Queen Zelina (2:10)
Zelina got some offense but Ripley won fairly quickly with the Rip-tide.
The story was that Ripley managed to win without Nikki ASH in her way. (Nikki and Carmella were barred from ringside.)

Big E told Sarah Schreiber what he planned on doing to Rollins and Owens tonight. Lashley interrupted. Lashley planned on taking the title at Day 1 and wondered if he can trust Big E tonight. Big E told him to leave MVP in the back. Lashley told him not to worry about MVP. “I’ll take care of him.”

Liv Morgan promo
Morgan entered with a kendo stick. She said “Rebecca” tried injuring her before accepting her challenge last week. She couldn’t let Lynch get the upper hand. Once Lynch said she would go home to train, she knew that Lynch was going to the gym that belonged to her and her try-hard husband in Iowa.
Morgan aired the footage you may have seen online where she attacked Lynch at the gym. Morgan said Lynch had an innocent woman disguised as her because that was the kind of person she was. Morgan called her disgusting for sacrificing one of her students. Morgan threatened to break Lynch’s face before getting her hand raised at Day 1.
Lynch interrupted. She informed Morgan that she may have broken that student’s arm. Lynch said it would take more to keep her down but at least Morgan taught her students a lesson that anyone can get lucky once. Lynch warned her it gets hot under the lights and Morgan can’t handle the heat.
Morgan told Lynch that she wasn’t going to scare her out of this match and she planned on starting the new year as champion. Morgan dared her to get in the ring but Lynch said she wasn’t an idiot — she wasn’t getting in the ring as long as Morgan had the kendo stick.
Morgan chucked the stick at Lynch for her to use. Lynch told Morgan not to mock her and she was lucky that she had a private jet to catch. Lynch left.

WWE Champion Big E & Bobby Lashley defeated Seth Rollins & Kevin Owens (14:02)
They went to break 45 seconds into the match after Lashley tackled Rollins outside the ring. Lashley was still after Rollins when they returned four minutes later. Rollins tried fighting back but Lashley hit a delayed vertical suplex, which got applause from the crowd.
Rollins dodged a charge and tagged in Owens who hit a senton outside the ring and another one in the ring for a one count. Owens and Rollins gave Lashley a double vertical suplex but Lashley tagged in Big E moments later.
Big E suplexed Owens and hit an STO for two. A Rollins distraction allowed Owens to hit a superkick. Rollins followed with a frog splash for two. Rollins gave Lashley a suicide dive as Owens gave Big E a senton off the top for two.
After a break, Owens missed a moonsault and Big E tagged in Lashley who gave Rollins a neckbreaker, overhead suplex, running clothesline and running powerslam but Owens broke up the cover.
Rollins leaped over a spear attempt and Lashley speared Big E by accident. Lashley followed immediately with a spear on Owens for the pinfall win.
Rollins had tried to break up the cover with a stomp but he was too late. Regardless, Rollins and Owens continued to attack Lashley after the match as they piped in fake booing. They hit Lashley with the steel steps before Owens laid out Big E.
Owens held Lashley’s head down on top of the steel step and Rollins stomped him into the steel.
Monday’s Raw will feature the return of Edge’s Cutting Edge talk show.
WWE has announced that a Cutting Edge talk show with Maryse appearing as Edge’s guest will take place on Raw this Monday. Edge is set to face Maryse’s husband The Miz at WWE’s Day 1 pay-per-view on Saturday, January 1.
During a Miz TV segment on Raw earlier this week, The Miz pulled Maryse in front of him when Edge was going for a spear. Edge held up to avoid hitting Maryse, and Miz laid him out with the Skull Crushing Finale.
Maryse slapped Miz and walked out of the ring after not being happy that Miz put her in harm’s way.
Monday’s Raw is being held at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Also set for the show is a segment where Bobby Lashley and MVP will demand respect following Lashley’s wins against Big E, Seth Rollins, and Kevin Owens this past Monday. Lashley was added to the WWE Championship match at Day 1 by defeating Big E, Rollins, and Owens in one night.
Big E will defend his WWE championship against Rollins, Owens, and Lashley in a fatal four-way match at Day 1.
Both The Miz and Maryse returned to WWE television tonight, confronting Edge.
Edge was in the ring talking about being back on Raw when The Miz, with Maryse, made their return. The two exchanged words with Edge eventually challenging The Miz to fight. Miz acted like he was about to engage, but instead said no and exited the ring.
The Miz returned talking about how he was on Dancing with the Stars. Edge mocked Miz for dressing like a genie and placing 9th on the show, and also started a ‘Miz sucks’ chant. Miz told Edge that he has surpassed him and should have stayed at home for good.
Edge admitted he didn’t have much time left but did credit Miz going from Tough Enough to headlining WrestleMania, and also brought up the reference from AEW Dynamite last week in a promo between MJF and CM Punk, saying that other people from other places use him for cheap heat. Edge said hat he worked hard to get back here, while Miz used his career for his next endeavor while his tag team partner (John Morrison) got fired. That eventually led to Edge challenging Miz, with the Miz bailing.
Miz had been off television since August to participate on Dancing with the Stars, placing ninth on the show. Maryse has made sporadic appearances on WWE television since 2018.
