Logan Paul launches storyline legal action against LA Knight after WWE SummerSlam

WWE is about to be rocked by another lawsuit, although this one is just in storyline.

On Monday, Logan Paul posted an image of an “official” legal complaint that he supposedly filed in the Northern District Court of Ohio recently. The former United States Champion says he is taking action against LA Knight for the theft of and damage to his PRIME-branded truck.

Paul is seeking compensatory damages as well as attorney’s fees and costs. He is demanding a trial by jury.

“COMPLAINT AND DEMAND FOR JURY TRIAL
Logan Paul, by and through undersigned counsel and pursuant to Ohio Rev. Code §§ 2307.60 and 2307.61, files this Complaint and Demand for Jury Trial against Shaun Michael Ricker a/k/a “LA Knight” to hold him accountable for civil theft and the willful property damage he caused by stealing Mr. Paul’s PRIME truck and later using a metal pipe to destroy the truck’s driver-side window and damage the door frame and surrounding areas. In support of the claims herein, for which Mr. Paul seeks compensatory and exemplary damages and attorney’s fees and costs, and for which LA Knight has no viable defenses.”

He appears to have only posted the first page of his official complaint against Knight.

Knight drove off in Paul’s PRIME vehicle on SmackDown last Friday. He arrived at SummerSlam in the truck the following day and smashed out a window before heading to the ring for his match.

Paul offered up the following footage as evidence:

Wrestling Observer Live: Why outside drama shouldn’t overshadow the in-ring action

It’s WWE SummerSlam Saturday and it’s time for Wrestling Observer Live.

Brand-new WWE Tag Team Champions on Smackdown are giving The Bloodline momentum heading into tonight which looks to be a good card.

MJF faced Templario in Arena Mexico, but more people seem interested in backstage feuds which is too bad.

Today, I also discuss the G1 in Osaka, Stardom’s Five Star Grand Prix, surprises in GCW, and no matter who’s to blame, WWE needs to be more careful about who they let on camera.

Logan Paul vs. LA Knight United States title match official for WWE SummerSlam

The United States title match for SummerSlam is official.

On SmackDown, Logan Paul agreed to defend the title against LA Knight on August 3. This follows the contract signing that took place on Friday’s show.

Paul initially balked at the idea of defending the title against Knight. He called Knight by his given name Shaun, telling him that he isn’t “him” and accused Knight of copying The Rock. Knight shot back, saying that Paul’s brother Jake had the balls to face Mike Tyson but Logan didn’t have the balls to face Knight. That caused Paul to sign the contract, telling Knight that he’ll take everything away from him at SummerSlam, including the “yeah” catchphrase.

Knight has been trying to get the attention of Paul in recent weeks, including showing up to Paul’s home in Puerto Rico in an attempt to get a United States title match.

Here’s the current SummerSlam card with both official and expected matches based on recent TV:

  • WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes defends against Solo Sikoa
  • WWE World Heavyweight Champion Damien Priest defends against Gunther
  • WWE Women’s Champion Bayley defends against Nia Jax
  • WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan defends against Rhea Ripley
  • WWE U.S. Champion Logan Paul defends against LA Knight
  • CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre

WWE SmackDown live results: Logan Paul-LA Knight contract signing

Cody Rhodes is set to kick off tonight’s SmackDown from Omaha, Nebraska. His appearance will come after he was attacked by the Bloodline last Friday and ultimately forced to watch as the faction put Randy Orton through a table.

Rhodes is set to face Bloodline leader Solo Sikoa at SummerSlam on August 3 with the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line.

Also set for tonight, Logan Paul will appear. Last week, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis granted LA Knight a United States title match at SummerSlam as long as Knight could get Paul to sign a contract for the match. Paul is set to respond to Knight’s challenge tonight.

After weeks of interacting, Michin will square off against women’s Money in the Bank briefcase holder Tiffany Stratton. Michin came up on the losing side of her match against Nia Jax last week.

On tap as well is Carmelo Hayes vs. Andrade. Hayes is looking for payback after Andrade took him out of the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match two weeks ago.

Our live coverage starts at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

– A video recapping last week’s Bloodline/Cody/Randy Orton drama opened the show.

– Corey Graves welcomed everyone into the show inside the arena. Cody’s music hit and off we went with the first segment.

The Cody Rhodes segment

Basic stuff. Hard as they try – and it’d be unfair to say that WWE hasn’t at least somewhat heated up the SummerSlam main event between Sikoa and Cody – but the match still doesn’t feel like a Big Show title match and we’re two weeks and one day away from it. So, it’s tough to buy into Cody firing up over Sikoa or the Bloodline as long as Roman Reigns or The Rock isn’t around, and as such, these kinds of promos always feel lacking. Meanwhile, Theory & Waller are great foils and they played their parts well here, but can we get to their split already? At this point, it feels overdue.

Cody walked out not in a suit and instead in one of his American Nightmare shirts with the sleeves cut off. Boxer Terence Crawford was shown sitting in the front row and Cody walked over to him for a fist-bump before hopping into the proceedings. The crowd started loud “Cody!” chants. Cody opened by saying he wants to talk about Randy Orton. Cody said before Orton was a friend, he was a mentor and he wouldn’t be standing there as Undisputed WWE Champion without Randy Orton. A “Randy!” chant began and Cody paused.

Cody talked about feeling guilt that the Bloodline put Orton through a table last week. Cody called Orton family and his brother. Cody said Orton wouldn’t want Cody to talk about guilt and shame and instead, Cody said he wanted to talk to the camera and the man responsible for the attack: Solo Sikoa. Cody remembered how he told Sikoa that Sikoa wasn’t ready before WrestleMania 39. Sikoa paid Cody back by costing Cody the title at that ‘Mania. Cody said “The Enforcer” was a cute nickname, and somewhere Arn Anderson smiled. As Cody kept going on, A-Town Down Under’s music hit and Austin Theory, alongside Grayson Waller, walked out.

Theory noted how Jacob Fatu attacked Theory last week because of Cody. Theory said his cheek was swollen and Cody said that was because Waller kneed Theory in the face. Waller and Theory got on the apron as Waller told Cody he wouldn’t have won his title without Orton and stepped into the ring … but Cody attacked Theory and Waller quickly. The tag team worked the numbers advantage and threw Cody to the outside, oddly enough, near where Crawford was and Crawford gave Cody a chair. Cody took care of Theory and Waller with the chair and Cody’s music hit to end the segment.

**********

– Carmelo Hayes was shown getting his hair worked on in a dressing room. The video was stylized and Hayes spoke to the camera saying he’d beat Andrade.

– Cody was walking backstage and ran into Nick Aldis. Cody asked Aldis if he could take on Waller & Theory in a handicap match later. Aldis responded by saying Cody has until the end of the night to find a partner.

Andrade defeated Carmelo Hates [9:45]

For something that felt sort of thrown together, this was one of the better undercard SmackDown matches in recent memory. Both guys came to prove a point and they did just that. Good stuff. Not really having a feel for who might win added to it, too, because both guys haven’t been lighting the world on fire since hitting the SmackDown roster, so the stakes here felt weirdly higher than I expected. My only complaint was that we lost a couple minutes of it to a commercial break, but SmackDown is going to SmackDown. We can always rely on that.

The action was fast early as the two traded a series of takedowns and pin attempts. Both guys cut each other off repeatedly, but Hayes ultimately took control with a backwards draping springboard leg drop onto Andrade, who was hanging from the second rope. The show then went to a commercial break with Hayes having the advantage.

The show returned and a replay of a Spanish Fly aired as Hayes worked Andrade’s arm. The two ran the ropes and Andrade landed a tough clothesline to reset the match. On their feet, the two traded strikes until Andrade hit a pair of dragon-screw leg-whips. Andrade pumped up the crowd (and the crowd complied) before hitting a running double-knees on Hayes. Before long, Hayes came back with a tilt-a-whirl face-buster.

Hayes and Andrade battled on the top rope and Andrade executed his missed monsault into a standing moonsault sequence that the crowd really seemed to love for a nice near-fall. The two traded more strikes until Andrade got in his spinning back-elbow for another good near-fall. Andrade went to the top and jumped into a First 48, but Andrade kicked out at 2.8. Hayes went to the top and missed Nothing But Net and from there, Andrade hit The Message for the win.

The Bayley/Nia Jax segment

The two were shown on a split screen. Jax cut off Corey Graves, who tried to ask a question. Jax said everyone should start feeling bad for Bayley because Jax is going to put Bayley down at SummerSlam. Bayley said Jax hasn’t changed after all these years. Jax demanded to be called the Queen of the Ring. Bayley said Jax walks around like she owns the place and Bayley recalled how Jax took Bayley out of her SummerSlam match in 2017. Bayley called Jax “big, clumsy and reckless.”

Jax stewed and got silent for a second. Jax said she’s coming for the title because she wants to take it off Bayley. Bayley responded by saying she has bad news for Jax: Bayley said she has changed after all these years herself and she will walk out of SummerSlam with the WWE Women’s Championship. Jax was flustered, tore the mic off her shirt and stormed out of the frame to end things.

**********

– Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair were shown walking backstage and they ran into Chelsea Green and Piper Niven, the latter of whom called Cargill and Belair losers. Both teams wanted to talk to Nick Aldis and stood outside of Aldis’s office. Belair challenged Green to a match and just like that, we went to the ring.

Bianca Belair defeated Chelsea Green [0:56]

The match wasn’t even a minute. That’s all.

Green started the match by slapping Belair in the face and Belair returned the favor. Belair followed that up with a German Suplex. Soon after that, Belair set up for a KOD, but Green worked out of it to roll Belair up … only to have Belair roll Green up for the win. Cargill celebrated with Belair in the ring and Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn popped up on the video screen. The champs said “we’ll see” about a tag title rematch.

The LA Knight/Logan Paul contract signing

This was good and surprisingly stiff. The match had some heat already, but these two pulled no punches in this verbal exchange. I wasn’t able to grab all the one-liners in real time so if you can go back to watch the segment, I’d suggest doing it because it’s worth it. The story that Knight has given his life to wrestling while Paul could take it or leave it is compelling because it’s probably not all that far from the truth. Calling Knight by his real name actually packed a tiny punch in this situation, too, which doesn’t happen much anymore because it happens too much across all companies. I liked this a lot. Both guys were very good.

Nick Aldis stood in the ring and introduced LA Knight. The crowd, still, even after all this time, was very much into LA Knight. Paul then made his entrance and the crowd boo’ed the hell out of him. “LA Knight!” chants broke out. Paul lobbed a lot of insults at Knight and asked the crowd why he should give Knight a shot at the U.S. title. Knight got a microphone said maybe Paul was right and maybe Paul should take a walk … but then Knight recounted how he walked down the aisle a year ago and told Paul where he could stick his bottles of Prime.

In the meantime, Knight pointed out, Paul became U.S. champion. Knight called Paul the man as long as he holds the U.S. title. Knight said he thought he’d ask for a shot at it and Paul said no. Knight said he took things into his own hands and showed up at Paul’s house. Knight said none of it led to Knight getting what he wanted, which was the U.S. title. Paul cut Knight off and called him by his government name, “Shaun” (from Hagerstown, Maryland, as a matter of fact). Paul said Knight’s existence is defined by what Knight does in the ring but that’s not the case for Paul. He followed that up by saying the last name “Paul” is in the zeitgeist.

Paul said Knight doesn’t move like Paul and Knight is not “him” and for someone who defines himself by what happens in the ring, he hasn’t done anything noteworthy in the last 20 years. Paul made the comment that Knight isn’t The Rock, which at this point, felt dated. Knight said Paul was a fraud and said Paul’s brother would jump in the ring with Mike Tyson, but Logan doesn’t have the balls to step in the ring with Knight. That fired up Logan up and Logan signed the contract. Logan said after SummerSlam, he’ll take everything from Knight and Logan did the “Yeah!” catchphrase. Paul threw the contract at Knight and Aldis had to separate Knight and Paul.

Paul went to leave the ring and Knight picked up the contract. Knight turned his back and Paul ran back into the ring to attack Knight. The two battled and Knight nearly hit the BFT, but Paul got out of it and left the ring. Knight’s music hit to end the segment.

**********

– A Tiffany Stratton “Pink Bubblegum” video aired.

– Knight was shown walking backstage and ran into Santos Escobar, who reminded Knight that he was in the match at MSG a few weeks ago and Escobar did not get pinned. Knight said he has some free time and if Escobar wants to get in touch with Knight, Escobar’s mom has his number. Escobar kind of/sort of set up a match between he and Knight for next week.

Michin defeated Tiffany Stratton [8:05]

Michin is in this weird place in WWE Land. She never really gets a credible win – as in, on her own – but she does benefit from getting important victories, to the point where she even got a world title shot against IYO SKY some months ago. That said, it was nice to see her get a win here, but the story was Bayley and Jax, as that’s the place to which we are building in two weeks at SummerSlam. I’d be shocked if the Stratton/Jax story doesn’t take a major turn that night in Cleveland. But we’ll see.

Michin had control early and landed a a Cannonball for a one count. Stratton rolled to the outside and Michin ran after Stratton until Michin ran into Jax, who stopped Michin. Stratton took advantage of that and hit her cartwheel into an Alabama Slam on the outside. The show then went to a commercial break. The show returned and Stratton had control inside the ring. Stratton hit a double knees for a near-fall. Stratton followed that up with a back elbow and a makeshift pop-up powerbomb. Stratton tried the Alabama Slam again, but Michin fought out of it and hit a back elbow.

Michin fired up and landed a series of kicks, ending the fury with a neck-breaker. Michin then hit a Tornado DDT for a two-count. Stratton came back with a running kick to Michin’s chest and got a two-count out of it. Stratton put Michin on the top turnbuckle, but Michin countered with a shotgun dropkick off the top. Stratton rolled to the outside and Michin ran the ropes … until she was cut off by Jax. Stratton took advantage of that with a rolling Senton. Bayley appeared out of nowhere and threw Jax into the timekeeper’s area.

Bayley hit Jax with the MITB briefcase. Bayley then broke the briefcase open and beat the hell out of the briefcase for some reason. The result of all of this was Michin rolling Stratton up for the win. After the match, Bayley rolled the beat up briefcase back into the ring. Bayley and Michin celebrated outside the ring.

**********

– The Bloodline were shown in a dark room. Solo Sikoa said life is so good when you are the Tribal Chief. Sikoa said life is also busy because of that because he doesn’t have a moment to himself. Sikoa wondered who would step up and be Cody’s partner later, which, by proxy, would disrespect the Bloodline. Sikoa said if you are on Cody’s side, you are against the Bloodline. Sikoa said tonight better a handicap match or someone will pay the price.

– Next week, a six-team No. 1 contender match will happen for the WWE tag titles. Bayley & Michin will take on Jax and Stratton. Plus, there will be Knight vs. Escobar.

– Cody was shown walking backstage and Kevin Owens walked into the frame. Owens said he’d see Cody out there and we got the camera shot following Owens to the ring as Owens’s music hit.

Cody Rhodes & Kevin Owens defeated A-Town Down Under (Austin Theory & Grayson Waller) [11:59]

Different week, same story, when it comes to inserting Kevin Owens into the Randy Orton role from last week. I said this earlier, but I’ll say it again: I understand and appreciate WWE’s attempt at building the new Bloodline (Wolfpack 2.0, as I like to call them) as menaces and Sikoa has certainly gained some things by being put in this role. But … it just doesn’t feel SummerSlam main event worthy to me yet. It might never get there, actually. In the meantime, I do think these angles are doing some good for Sikoa, Loa, Tonga and Fatu (especially Fatu, who looks every bit the star we all thought he’d look if he ever made it here). I just don’t think it’s Undisputed WWE World Champ Match Worthy. On the other side of things, it’s too bad for Theory and Waller. They’re good at being the Guys To Always Lose, but come on, WWE. Let’s break these two up and start another story by now. Please?

The action spilled outside early and Theory grabbed Owens by the beard at one point. Waller held Cody before long and Theory pounded on Cody. Waller was the legal man and Waller worked over Cody until Cody fired up and got the first hot tag to Owens. Owens came in and stomped a mud hole in Waller. Everyone went back outside the ring and Owens landed clotheslines on Waller and Theory. Back inside the ring, Owens hit a Cannonball on Waller. Owens then went to the top and went for a Swanton, but Waller got the knees up and tagged in Theory, who hit a rolling dropkick on Owens.

Waller tagged in and landed an elbow on Owens for a two-count. The show then went to its final commercial break. When the show came back, Waller and Owens battled on the top rope until Owens hit Waller off the top and followed that up with a Swanton. Cody then received the hot tag and started beating the hell out of Theory. Waller got a blind tag, but Cody hit a DDT on Theory. Waller ran in and landed a rolling Facebuster for a two-count.

Theory tagged in and Waller nearly hit Theory, but Owens landed a Stunner on Waller and Cody hit the CrossRhodes on Theory for the win. Cody and KO celebrated until the Bloodline’s music hit and out came the Bloodline. Owens and Cody battled with the Bloodline outside the ring. The two set up to put Sikoa through a table but Jacob Fatu cut everything off and took out Owens while Cody watched the Bloodline work over Owens, which included multiple hip attacks from Fatu.

As Tonga and Loa held Cody, Fatu hit a flying headbutt on Owens. The Bloodline lifted Cody and they triple-powerbombed Cody through the announce table. Tonga put a chair around Owens’s neck and ran Owens into a ring post. The Bloodline posed with their fingers in the air over Cody as the show went off the air and the crowd chanted “We want Roman!”

Logan Paul’s return set for next week’s WWE SmackDown

The United States Champion will return to WWE SmackDown on July 19 to answer LA Knight’s SummerSlam challenge.

Logan Paul’s return has officially been announced for the Friday, July 19 SmackDown, where he will presumably answer the SummerSlam challenge issued by LA Knight during this week’s episode. Knight presented a signed contract for a title match against Paul at SummerSlam during Friday’s show, with only Paul’s signature standing in the way of a US title bout for the August 3 pay-per-view in Cleveland.

A one-on-one contest has also been announced for next week’s show.

Following a backstage interaction between the two on this Friday’s episode, Andrade and Carmelo Hayes are set to square off in the ring on the July 19 SmackDown.

The bout will be the first for Hayes since taking part in the Money in the Bank ladder match on July 6, a contest he qualified for by pinning Randy Orton in a triple threat qualifier on the June 21 SmackDown.

The announced card for next week’s show:

  • United States Champion Logan Paul returns
  • Andrade vs. Carmelo Hayes

LA Knight challenges Logan Paul for WWE SummerSlam

LA Knight has issued a challenge to the United States Champion for a match at SummerSlam.

Knight laid out a challenge to United States Champion Logan Paul on Friday’s WWE SmackDown episode, presenting a signed contract from SmackDown GM Nick Aldis for a title match against Paul at SummerSlam set for Saturday, August 3.

Paul will appear on next week’s SmackDown on Friday, July 19 to respond to the challenge from Knight.

Knight scored a victory over Paul in a Money in the Bank qualifying match on the June 28 SmackDown episode, pinning Paul with a handful of tights to qualify for last week’s Money in the Bank ladder match eventually won by Drew McIntyre.

Video of Knight’s promo challenging Paul is embedded below.

Knight has been an antagonist for Paul in WWE storylines for months, including doing a home invasion of Paul’s Puerto Rico mansion on SmackDown last month.

Logan Paul says wrestling for WWE at Madison Square Garden is a dream come true

Tonight’s WWE SmackDown is going to be a memorable moment for Logan Paul.

Paul will make his Madison Square Garden debut when he competes on tonight’s SmackDown from New York City. He’s facing off against LA Knight and Santos Escobar in a triple threat Money in the Bank qualifying match.

On social media, Paul posted a photo from Madison Square Garden and wrote that wrestling at the World’s Most Famous Arena is a dream come true.

Paul also shared a post from 2019 where he promised that he would fight at Madison Square Garden soon.

“I posted this five years ago, Madison Square Garden, in 2019. I said I will fight right there soon,” Paul said. “Five years later your boy is wrestling front and center at Madison Square Garden tonight.”

Prior to tonight, Paul has only ever wrestled on SmackDown once, winning an Elimination Chamber qualifying match this February. All of his other matches have taken place at WWE PPVs/PLEs. If Paul qualifies for Money in the Bank, it will be his second straight year competing in the men’s ladder match.

Paul is the current United States Champion and is expected to defend the title against Knight at SummerSlam this August.

Here’s everything that’s been announced for tonight’s SmackDown:

  • Bloodline Acknowledgement Ceremony for Jacob Fatu
  • Men’s Money in the Bank qualifying match: Logan Paul vs. LA Knight vs. Santos Escobar
  • Women’s Money in the Bank qualifying match: Jade Cargill vs. Tiffany Stratton vs. Candice LeRae
  • Women’s Money in the Bank qualifying match: Naomi vs. Blair Davenport vs. Indi Hartwell

Logan Paul to compete in WWE SmackDown MITB qualifying match

Next Friday, Logan Paul will wrestle on SmackDown for just the second time ever.

WWE has announced a Money in the Bank qualifying match with Paul vs. LA Knight vs. Santos Escobar for next week’s SmackDown from Madison Square Garden. Two women’s Money in the Bank qualifying matches will also take place on the episode. They are Jade Cargill vs. Tiffany Stratton vs. Candice LeRae and Naomi vs. Blair Davenport vs. Indi Hartwell.

July 6 is the date for Money in the Bank. Jey Uso, Carmelo Hayes, and Andrade have qualified for the men’s ladder match so far. IYO SKY and Chelsea Green have qualified for the women’s ladder match.

If Paul were to qualify, it would be his second straight year competing in Money in the Bank.

Paul and Knight are currently feuding with each other, which is expected to lead to Paul defending his United States title against Knight at SummerSlam this August.

On SmackDown tonight, Paul initially didn’t show up when Knight called him out. Escobar instead confronted Knight and tried to attack him, but Knight hit Escobar with the BFT. Paul then launched a blindside attack on Knight and knocked him out.

WWE SmackDown (Friday, June 28) —

  • Men’s Money in the Bank qualifying match: Logan Paul vs. LA Knight vs. Santos Escobar
  • Women’s Money in the Bank qualifying match: Jade Cargill vs. Tiffany Stratton vs. Candice LeRae
  • Women’s Money in the Bank qualifying match: Naomi vs. Blair Davenport vs. Indi Hartwell

Update on matches planned for WWE SummerSlam

In the new edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer gave a look at what the card for SummerSlam might look like.

Meltzer reports that, as of this week, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes vs. Solo Sikoa and United States Champion Logan Paul vs. LA Knight are both earmarked for SummerSlam instead of Money in the Bank. SummerSlam is being held in Paul’s hometown of Cleveland on Saturday, August 3.

WWE is also hoping that CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre will take place at SummerSlam, but Meltzer notes that it depends on whether Punk is ready to return from his torn triceps by then:

The hope is that Punk vs. McIntyre will take place at SummerSlam on 8/3 in Cleveland, but we were told that as of right now it’s up in the air whether Punk would be ready by that date. It was emphasized to me that he could be ready but it’s not a sure thing.

Punk is set to appear on tonight’s SmackDown from Chicago.

The SummerSlam card will also feature Gunther challenging for the World Heavyweight Championship and Nia Jax challenging for the WWE Women’s Championship. Gunther and Jax earned those title shots by winning WWE’s King and Queen of the Ring tournaments. As of now, it would be Damian Priest vs. Gunther and Bayley vs. Jax at SummerSlam.

Priest has a World Heavyweight Championship defense against Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank on July 6.

Logan Paul-LA Knight segment official for WWE SmackDown

LA Knight will confront United States Champion Logan Paul on Friday’s WWE SmackDown.

The new segment for Friday’s episode was officially announced in an article on WWE.com Thursday. On last week’s SmackDown, Knight “invaded” Paul’s home in Puerto Rico and lounged in the US champ’s swimming pool.

From WWE.com:

“After seeking out Logan Paul for several weeks on SmackDown, LA Knight broke into the home of the United States Champion and took a little swim. Now that he is seemingly in the head of the titleholder, find out what will happen when Knight confronts Paul on the blue brand, this Friday at 8/7 C on FOX.”

Also official for Friday’s episode, Cody Rhodes will respond after being attacked by The Bloodline at last Saturday’s Clash at the Castle event in Scotland.

Already announced for the show are a pair of Money in the Bank qualifying bouts, plus an appearance by CM Punk.

The updated lineup for the Friday, June 21 WWE SmackDown:

  • CM Punk appears
  • Men’s Money in the Bank qualifying match: Kevin Owens vs. Grayson Waller vs. Andrade
  • Men’s Money in the Bank qualifying match: Randy Orton vs. Carmelo Hayes vs. Tama Tonga
  • LA Knight confronts United States Champion Logan Paul
  • Cody Rhodes responds to The Bloodline

Wednesday Update

WWE

  • Former President Donald Trump will be the guest on tomorrow’s episode of Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast. Paul posted a picture of himself and Trump posing with Paul’s WWE United States title belt.
  • Jordynne Grace told Sports Illustrated about how her NXT Battleground match against Roxanne Perez came together:
    • The new President of TNA spoke with me about a month ago and told me WWE wanted to have me back. I was like, ‘What is happening?’ We spoke specifically about Battleground, and honestly, I thought I was going to be in the [North American title] ladder match. When I found out it was a singles match, and for the title, I was mind-blown.
    • Going back, it’s been a great experience. It’s impressive how much of a well-oiled machine they are in WWE. There is someone with an answer to everything. And they have a barber on-site. That surprised me.
  • In an interview with Comicbook.com, Ash By Elegance (Dana Brooke) said her appearing at Battleground was a last-minute thing:
    • My gosh, it was seriously last minute. I was going about my week and I had an appearance on Saturday in Jacksonville. I get a call, I think it was late Thursday, even maybe early Friday morning, and they’re like, ‘Hey, are you available this weekend? We’d love to have you come back and do something with TNA and NXT. I was like, ‘What?! Oh yeah, count me in!’ They booked my flight from Jacksonville over to Vegas.
    • I kept everything on the DL. I was hiding. I had my hat, I had my hoodie, I had my sunglasses. Nobody knew who I was. I made that sneak appearance, sneak attack, and here I am. I took a redeye back to Miami this morning and am enjoying about a day and a half vacation with my family and then I’m back on the road for some TNA action in Chicago. I’m booked and busy, baby.
  • TKO Group posted a time-lapse video of the UFC Apex being transformed so it could host Battleground.
  • Drew McIntyre explained to the Metro what was going through his mind when CM Punk indirectly mentioned Vince McMahon during their promo battle on Raw this March. In a segment with McIntyre and Seth Rollins, Punk asked McIntyre which “paragon of good virtue” picked him to be the Chosen One.
  • McIntyre said:
    • What was going through my mind was I could respond right now, and would it be a good look for our company? And I have to make a decision because we’re going O.K. Corral-style, unloading rounds on each other.
    • I did what I thought was right for not just the company, but for our roster, and held my tongue on that night. I had a couple of things in mind that would have melted the internet, but potentially hurt us in different ways.
  • McIntyre noted that he probably could have gotten away with what he wanted to say, but he’s intelligent enough to make it work without going there:
    • If you see Drew McIntyre going off those lines, swearing and saying things like ‘wow, this is gonna potentially hurt himself or the company or the roster,’ then it’s because I have lost it.
  • The Indian Express also interviewed McIntyre.
  • On his Kliq This podcast, Kevin Nash praised Damian Priest:
    • I think that Damian has really f**king risen to the occasion. Damian’s star power gave him the appearance of being bigger than he actually is. Like he just looks like a star. He looks like he should have that belt.
  • Hulk Hogan is launching a “Real American Beer” brand.

AEW/Other Wrestling

  • While speaking with TV Insider, Tony Khan said he’d love to have actor Paul Walter Hauser back in AEW:
    • Yes. I want Paul to come back. He is a really good friend of mine. I met Paul in LA many years ago. He is a great person. Paul and his agent Ryan are two of my really close friends. I like Paul a lot. He is always welcome in AEW to do anything. I have so much respect for Paul Walter.
  • Khan was asked to give his thoughts on WWE and TNA working together:
    • Since we launched AEW we’ve been looking to work with great wrestling companies across the planet. The relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling developed in 2021 and built to the point where we teamed to do a co-branded event like Forbidden Door. We’re approaching the third one. It’s a whole new level of great cooperation between wrestling promotions to see the stars of CMLL and Stardom in addition to the great wrestlers from New Japan Pro Wrestling competing with AEW stars.
    • I’m always open to working with great wrestling promotions all over the world. It feels like the spirit of cooperation in worldwide pro wrestling is greater than it has ever been, which is a big positive. Seeing the top stars of AEW go to Tokyo and compete at Wrestle Kingdom, I think that the fans can always count on AEW and New Japan to put on great collaborations. I think this year’s Forbidden Door will be one of the strongest shows any promotion will put anywhere in the world.
  • NBA broadcaster Mike Breen spoke to Sports Illustrated about the respect he has for Jim Ross:
    • Everyone in this profession should know Jim Ross. He’s an icon. I’m always listening to different broadcasters, whether it’s in baseball, football, hockey, tennis, or wrestling. Right away you can feel how much passion he brings to his calls. When you hear Jim Ross, you can instantly tell how much he loves what he does.
  • Tony Khan and Orange Cassidy appeared on Local 5 News in Iowa.
  • Renee Paquette conducted an interview with Christopher Daniels.
  • Deonna Purrazzo spoke with SHAK Wrestling.
  • On Casual Conversations with The Wrestling Classic, Sabu said GCW wants to host his last match in January. Sabu would prefer to have it take place in Las Vegas this July. He’s also open to having his last match in AEW:
    • My goal is to work out until the last match and I know the last match isn’t tomorrow. GCW wants me to do my last match with them in January. I said, ‘I don’t know if I’ll be ready.’ I don’t want my last match in January. I want it in July and I want it in Las Vegas.
    • I’m gonna have a final match eventually, I’m not in shape for it yet. I’m hurting too much, but I’m hoping my pain eases up. I’m sure it will. I’d like to maybe do my final match with [AEW] because they have a big platform and a big paycheck.
  • Sabu named Matt Cardona as a potential opponent for the match:
    • If all else fails, [I’ll face Rob] Van Dam, but to me, that’s too predictable. It’s too easy. Of course, we’re going to have a great match. I want something else. Maybe Matt Cardona in an explosion match when the time is right. Maybe not January, but down the line more.
  • The book “Say Hello to the Bad Guys: How Pro-Wrestling’s New World Order Changed America” is now available for pre-order. It’s written by ESPN’s Marc Raimondi and is scheduled to be released on March 25, 2025.

WWE SmackDown video highlights: Logan Paul pulls a bait-and-switch

Cody Rhodes vs. Logan Paul won’t be a title vs. title match after all.

During their contract signing on SmackDown last night, it was revealed that Paul won’t be defending his United States title when he faces Rhodes at WWE King & Queen of the Ring. Only Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship will be on the line. Paul ripped up the initial contract for the match, claiming that he never agreed to put his U.S. title on the line. He instead had his lawyer draw up a new contract.

Paul claimed that Rhodes has done nothing to earn a U.S. title shot. SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis was furious at Paul for the bait-and-switch, but Rhodes agreed to sign the new contract. Rhodes vowed to defeat Paul, just like Mike Tyson is going to do to Logan’s brother Jake in their boxing match.

“Here’s the situation: the honeymoon with you is over,” Rhodes said. “I’ve seen you do a flip. Whoop-de-doo. After our match at King & Queen of the Ring, you will find out exactly who Logan Paul is on the inside. And you mention Mike Tyson, good. Because in eight days, a WWE Hall of Famer is going to knock your brother out. And in Saudi Arabia, a future WWE Hall of Famer is going to beat you.”

Paul attempted to give Rhodes a cheap shot, but Rhodes was able to duck and then clothesline Paul out of the ring. He then powerbombed a member of Paul’s entourage through a table.

The King & Queen of the Ring PLE is happening next Saturday (May 25). Last night, SmackDown’s quarterfinals in the King & Queen of the Ring tournaments took place. Randy Orton, Tama Tonga, Bianca Belair, and Nia Jax all advanced. Jade Cargill was dealt her first WWE loss when she got disqualified against Jax.

Undisputed title bout official for WWE King & Queen of the Ring, US title not on the line

WWE has clarified the status of the Cody Rhodes vs. Logan Paul champion vs. champion match set for King & Queen of the Ring.

Rhodes, the Undisputed WWE Champion, and Paul, the United States Champion, signed the contract for their PLE bout on Friday’s WWE SmackDown in an angle where Paul had the contract rewritten so that his US title will not be on the line.

In a contract signing officiated by SmackDown GM Nick Aldis, Paul brought along a lawyer and announced that he had his legal team rewrite the contract so that the US title will not be up for grabs.

The Rhodes vs. Paul bout had been announced as a champion vs. champion match, but it was not clear from the original announcement whether or not both belts would be defended. Rhodes posted on X last Friday about his desire to hold both championships:

King & Queen of the Ring will stream live on Peacock/WWE Network on Saturday, May 25. The main card begins at 1 p.m. Eastern time, with the pre-show set for 12 p.m. Eastern. The current lineup for the show:
