Felony charge against WWE’s Liv Morgan dropped

One of the charges that WWE wrestler Liv Morgan (Gionna Daddio) was facing has been dropped.

Morgan was arrested in Florida last month on charges of possession of a synthetic cannabinoid and possession of marijuana (20 grams or less). Court records show that the possession of a synthetic cannabinoid charge was changed to dropped/abandoned on January 2. The charge had been classified as a felony.

Morgan’s attorney Jack A. Goldberger issued the following statement to The Messenger: “We are extremely pleased that the State Attorney’s office made the correct decision to not purse felony charges against Gionna.”

The possession of marijuana charge still remains and has been transferred to a misdemeanor court.

Morgan’s arrest happened on December 14 after being pulled over by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy. The deputy claimed that Morgan’s vehicle crossed over the yellow and white lines on the roadway “several times.” The deputy detected the odor of marijuana after approaching Morgan’s vehicle. A vape pen and a small plastic bag containing marijuana were then found.

After the arrest, Morgan was released from jail on a $3,000 bond.

Morgan has been out of action since July due to a shoulder injury, but it’s been expected that she would return to the ring soon. The belief within WWE has been that there’s no heat on Morgan for her arrest and her return will still happen as scheduled.

WWE’s Liv Morgan arrested in Florida for marijuana possession

Liv Morgan has been released from jail after being arrested for marijuana possession in Florida.

Villages-News reported Friday that the WWE star was arrested on Thursday for possession of synthetic cannabinoid, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug equipment. She was booked in Sumter County Detention Center and was released later on Thursday after posting a $3,000 bond.

According to the police report, a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy noticed Morgan’s jeep driving over the yellow and white lines on the roadway “several times”. When the deputy approached the jeep, the odor of marijuana was detected. A small plastic bag containing marijuana was found in the vehicle, and a vape pen containing an oil-like substance was also found, which later tested positive for marijuana.

PWInsider reported that Morgan will be arraigned for the charges on February 12.

Morgan has been out of action since May due to a shoulder injury. She was one half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions at the time, and as a result she and Raquel Rodriguez had to vacate the titles. She most recently appeared at the Iron Claw film premiere on Monday, taking photos with AEW star MJF.

Injury updates: Bryan Danielson, Mercedes Mone, Liv Morgan

Dave Meltzer provided injury updates for several wrestlers in today’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

AEW injuries to top names such as Bryan Danielson, Adam Cole, and Jon Moxley have resulted in creative challenges for the company. Meltzer writes that the multiple injuries have had a “domino effect” on AEW’s booking plans.

“The injury situation has greatly affected the booking as so many plans are made and have to be changed and when they are changed, it’s start from scratch and develop new plans, especially since Danielson, Cole and Jon Moxley were all figured into key things and so much had to be changed which created a domino effect on all the plans,” Meltzer wrote.

Regarding the broken orbital bone Danielson suffered recently, Meltzer writes that it occurred late in his match with Andrade El Idolo on the October 21 AEW Collision.

“The spot was about a minute before the finish when Andrade went for a spinning elbow and the two men’s heads accidentally collided with Andrade’s head hitting Danielson in the eye area,” Meltzer wrote.

AEW is hopeful Danielson will be ready to return by the end of the year, but his involvement in WrestleKingdom on January 4, 2024, is in doubt.

Mercedes Mone has been out of action with a broken ankle since NJPW Resurgence in May. Meltzer writes that there are no plans for her to return to NJPW or Stardom anytime soon.

“While this can change, right now there are no dates scheduled for Mone with New Japan or Stardom or for the singles match with Giulia for the title that was created for Mone and planned for when she was ready to return,” Meltzer wrote. “Evidently, when she’s ready to return they have to decide on costs and dates.”

Mone was seen with her foot still in a full cast when she attended AEW All In on August 27. Giulia will defend the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship against Trish Adora on the January 13, 2024, NJPW show in San Jose.

WWE’s Liv Morgan has been out of action since July with a shoulder injury. Meltzer wrote in the Observer that she is expected to return soon.

Bandido is also expected to return from injury soon. He suffered a triangular fibrocartilage complex injury (bones that connect the forearm to the wrist) in a match against Konosuke Takeshita in June. Bandido has been booked for a show in December, and Meltzer writes he’s likely a few weeks away from returning.

“Bandido is booked on the 12/9 Riot promotion show in Mexico, which means he’s a few weeks away from being able to return,” he wrote.

Sammy Guevara also provided an update on his condition recently. He has been out since WrestleDream with a concussion. He noted in a post to his Instagram Stories yesterday that he still has not been cleared to return.

WWE’s Kevin Owens has been wrestling with fractured rib

WWE Tag Team Champion Kevin Owens has been wrestling recently with a fractured rib.

Dave Meltzer provided the details on the post-Raw Wrestling Observer Radio, available for subscribers.

Meltzer said Owens has been working with the injury “for a while” and that they were waiting to finish up with the current storyline to give him a break. He wasn’t sure how long Owens will be out of action or what the status is for the undisputed WWE Tag Team titles that Owens holds with Sami Zayn.

Owens was taken out on Monday’s WWE Raw by The Judgment Day after Zayn’s match with Dominik Mysterio. Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley threw the injured Owens into the entranceway, causing a distraction for Zayn which led to a loss. Later, Owens was shown being checked on by medical personnel as he thought something was broken.

Liv Morgan shoulder injury update

Owens wasn’t the only WWE wrestler taken out by The Judgment Day Monday as Liv Morgan’s right shoulder was “Pillmanized” by Ripley. The angle was done to write Morgan out of storyline as she is dealing with a legitimate injury.

Talking about the injury on WOR, Bryan Alvarez said it was his understanding that while Ripley attacked Morgan’s left shoulder, it’s Morgan’s right shoulder that is putting her out of action.

The details of the injury (what it is, when it was suffered, etc.) are still unknown as of this writing.

WWE’s Kevin Owens, Liv Morgan currently suffering from injuries

Both Kevin Owens and Liv Morgan are currently dealing with injuries.

Fightful reported Monday evening that Owens is currently dealing with an undisclosed injury. Bryan Alvarez is reporting that both Owens and Liv Morgan are currently dealing with injuries.

“Both Kevin Owens and Liv Morgan are injured, severity to be determined,” Alvarez said.

Owens and Morgan were subject to storyline attacks on Raw. The finish to a match between Dominik Mysterio and Sami Zayn had Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley throw an injured Owens into the entranceway. This distracted Zayn, allowing Mysterio to roll up Zayn for the win. Later backstage, medical staff were seen checking on Owens as he said he thought something was broken.

Later, Morgan was set to take on Ripley in a singles match. However, Ripley jumped Morgan as she was heading to the ring and targeted her shoulder by grabbing a chair, wrapping it around Morgan’s shoulder, then stomping on the prone arm. Referees eventually separated the two, but Ripley fought her way back and did it a second time.

Title change at WWE Money in the Bank, Shayna Baszler betrays Ronda Rousey

New WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions were crowned as Shayna Baszler betrayed Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank.

Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez won the titles after Baszler attacked Rousey. Baszler blindsided Rousey with a forearm, beat her down, and put her in the Kirifuda Clutch. Baszler then walked out on Rousey. With Rousey left on her own, Rodriguez hit the Tejana Bomb and Morgan hit Oblivion. Morgan then pinned Rousey to win the titles.

The turn from Baszler came out of nowhere. Rousey had just tagged herself into the match before being attacked by Baszler.

With their victory, Morgan & Rodriguez reclaimed the titles that they were forced to vacate in May. They had to relinquish the Women’s Tag Team titles then due to a shoulder injury that Morgan suffered. Morgan made her return from injury on SmackDown last week.

Rousey & Baszler won a fatal four-way match for the titles after they were vacated by Morgan & Rodriguez. Last month, the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles were unified with the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles when Rousey & Baszler defeated Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn.

Women’s Tag Team title match official for WWE Money in the Bank

Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez are getting a chance to reclaim the titles that they never lost.

During this week’s episode of The SmackDown LowDown, it was confirmed that Morgan & Rodriguez will challenge for Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler’s Women’s Tag Team titles at Money in the Bank. The pay-per-view is taking place in London on Saturday, July 1.

Rousey & Baszler defeated Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn on SmackDown last night to unify the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles with the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles. Following the match, Morgan made her return from injury as she and Rodriguez confronted Rousey and Baszler.

Morgan & Rodriguez had to vacate the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles last month due to Morgan suffering a shoulder injury. Rousey & Baszler then won the vacant titles in a four-way match against Rodriguez & Shotzi, Bayley & IYO SKY, and Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville.

This is the sixth match that’s been announced for Money in the Bank. The updated card for the event is listed below:

  • Men’s Money in the Bank ladder match: Ricochet vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. LA Knight vs. Santos Escobar vs. Butch vs. Damian Priest vs. Logan Paul
  • Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match: Zelina Vega vs. Becky Lynch vs. Zoey Stark vs. Bayley vs. IYO SKY vs. Trish Stratus
  • World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins defends against Finn Balor
  • Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa vs. The Usos
  • Cody Rhodes vs. Dominik Mysterio
  • Women’s Tag Team Champions Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler defend against Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez

Liv Morgan returns from injury on WWE SmackDown

Liv Morgan is back, and she and Raquel Rodriguez want the titles they never lost.

After Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler unified the WWE and NXT Women’s Tag Team titles on Friday’s SmackDown, Rousey called out Rodriguez, who was heading to the back after sitting ringside for the title match. Rousey asked Rodriguez why she was even here. Rodriguez told her that “they” wanted a title match. After Baszler asked who “they” were, Morgan came out, officially returning from injury.

Morgan had been out of action since May, suffering a shoulder injury in a match that took place on SmackDown. Morgan said on a UpUpDownDown stream that she suffered a “torn shoulder”. As a result of the injury, the titles were vacated and a four-way match involving Baszler & Rousey, Bayley & IYO SKY, and Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green has held on the May 29 edition of Raw. Baszler & Rousey ended up winning the match and the titles.

WWE’s Liv Morgan says she has a ‘torn shoulder’

Liv Morgan has commented on the shoulder injury she suffered last month.

Morgan revealed Sunday during a live stream of UpUpDownDown that her shoulder is torn. She was commenting on playing against Mansoor rather than Ma.ce in Street Fighter VI when she said:

“I’m sitting at home with my torn shoulder and I’m like, ‘I’m really excited to win the UpUpDownDown championship, I’m really excited to beat Ma.ce’ and his kid just so happened to have a recital. I would like to see footage of this recital, I’m just saying. So you sent your friend out and even with one shoulder, I’m still going to beat you,” Morgan said.

“I wasn’t going to miss this for the world. One shoulder, no shoulder, it doesn’t matter,” she continued.

Our own Dave Meltzer commented on Morgan’s injury in the May 29 edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He also noted it was not clear how this could impact her recent casting in a film based on Mildred Burke.

Meltzer wrote:

Morgan had a shoulder injury that ended up worse than originally expected. There was word that she may require surgery, but that wasn’t a given and no word how that affects her planned role in a movie on Mildred Burke

Morgan had been expected to play Clara Mortensen in the film while Charlotte Flair was cast as June Byers. Filming of the movie is set to begin next month.

Dakota Kai also tore her ACL in the same match. Meltzer described what happened leading to both injuries in an update the following week.

“The word was that [Dakota Kai] was injured after Morgan suffered her shoulder injury and the knee injury came in a spot where she knew Morgan was hurt and was trying to protect her,” Meltzer said.

Liv Morgan injured, WWE Women’s Tag Team title match postponed

The Women’s Tag Team title match originally scheduled for Raw on Monday has been postponed due to injury.

On Raw Monday night, footage was shown of Morgan taking a kick during Morgan’s and Raquel Rodriguez’s tag team title match against Bayley and Dakota Kai. Following the footage, Rodriguez was seen in Adam Pearce’s office arguing with Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green, who were to be their opponents on Raw. However, Pearce said that Morgan was not medically cleared and the match would be postponed. A singles match was made for later on Raw with Rodriguez facing Green.

Fightful Select had reported prior to Raw that Morgan was injured. She originally was scheduled for a Cricket Wireless meet and greet on Monday morning, but was replaced by Dolph Ziggler. The severity of the injury isn’t currently known.

Morgan & Rodriguez have been champions since the April 10 edition of Raw, when they defeated Trish Stratus and Becky Lynch to become champions as a team for the first time.

Championship celebration added to WWE SmackDown

A championship celebration is set to take place on SmackDown tonight.

WWE has announced that Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan will take part in a championship celebration on tonight’s episode of SmackDown. Rodriguez & Morgan won the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles on Raw this Monday, defeating Becky Lynch & Trish Stratus.

Lynch & Lita were supposed to defend the titles against Rodriguez & Morgan on Raw, but there was an angle where Lita was taken out backstage by a mystery attacker. Stratus took Lita’s place in the match and was pinned by Morgan.

Stratus turned heel after the loss, attacking Lynch and laying her out with a Chick Kick.

WWE has also announced that Santos Escobar will face Damian Priest on SmackDown tonight. The match will be part of the LWO’s ongoing feud with Judgment Day.

The updated card for tonight’s show is listed below:

  • Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan championship celebration
  • Shinsuke Nakamura returns
  • Santos Escobar vs. Damian Priest
  • Xavier Woods vs. LA Knight

Title change on WWE Raw, Trish Stratus turns heel

Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan are the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

The two defeated Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus, the latter of whom was subbing for Lita, on Raw Monday. The finish had Lynch tag in Stratus. As Lynch took out Rodriguez with a dive on the outside, Stratus went for the chick kick. Morgan dodged the kick and instead rolled up Stratus, pinning her to win the titles for her team.

After the match, Lynch entered the ring and consoled Stratus. As Lynch turned her back to leave, Stratus attacked her, then laid her out with the chick kick.

Earlier in the show, a backstage segment showed Lita being jumped backstage and was unable to stand. In a second backstage segment, it was announced that Stratus would take the place of Lita heading into the Tag Team title match.

Lynch and Lita were the champions for 43 days, defeating Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai and IYO SKY) on the February 27 edition of Raw. This is Rodriguez’s second run with the Tag Team titles and Morgan’s first.

Ronda Rousey: WWE feud with Liv Morgan was ‘hamstrung by a bunch of octogenarians’

Ronda Rousey recently had some strong words regarding her program with Liv Morgan last year.

A rivalry between the two began at Money in the Bank 2022 when Morgan cashed in her freshly won briefcase on Rousey. It concluded that October when Rousey regained the title at Extreme Rules.

According to comments she posted to Instagram on Sunday, Rousey believes her feud with Morgan was “hamstrung by a bunch of octogenarians who still think they know how to be hip.”

Rousey wrote:

Imagine what our @yaonlylivvonce feud could have been if we weren’t hamstrung by a bunch of octogenarians who still think they know how to be hip while putting less than 5 minutes of thought a week into each women’s storyline… new #RondaOnTheRoad

Following Morgan’s successful MITB cash-in, she would defend the title against Rousey at SummerSlam. The match went five minutes and the finish saw the referee count Rousey’s shoulders to the mat while Morgan was tapping out to the armbar. Rousey then attacked Morgan after the match and was later issued a storyline suspension. Rousey then defeated Morgan for the belt at Extreme Rules and moved into a program with Shotzi.
