Matt Cardona, Kevin Blackwood drafted to MLW at Never Say Never

MLW has announced two new additions to its roster.

Matt Cardona and Kevin Blackwood were selected in the promotion’s open draft held at Never Say Never on Saturday in Philadelphia.

Mister Saint Laurent announced that Cardona will become the newest member of his World Titan Federation. Cardona then appeared via video and revealed he’ll debut for the promotion at Fury Road on September 3.

Blackwood being drafted was announced earlier on the show. It’s not clear when the 32-year-old will make his MLW debut but he wrote on Twitter that it will be “soon.”

Blackwood and AEW’s Daniel Garcia are long-time tag partners and opponents. They wrestled as The Buffalo Brothers on the independents and a set of AEW Dark tapings in September 2020. They wrestled each other on an episode of Dark in January 2023 as well. They’ve also teamed together and faced each other in PWG. Blackwood frequently performs for promotions such as GCW, PWG, C4, BLP and took part in four NJPW Strong tapings in 2022.

Kevin Blackwood out of NJPW Autumn Action tapings

Kevin Blackwood is out of Sunday’s NJPW Strong Autumn Attack tapings.

The company announced on their website Saturday evening that Blackwood and Eddie Kingston are out. Blackwood is out due to personal reasons, while Kingston tested positive for COVID-19.

As a result of the absences, the card has been changed:

  • A six-man tag match that had Kingston team with Homicide and Wheeler Yuta against Jay White, Karl Anderson, and Doc Gallows now has Homicide and Yuta facing White and Anderson in a tag team match.
  • Kevin Blackwood’s match with Ariya Daiviari has been changed to Kevin Knight facing Daivari.
  • Che Cabrera was set to face Knight. Doc Gallows will now face Cabrera in a singles match.

Kingston announced earlier on Saturday that he had tested positive.

“So here we go, got covid won’t be able to make Strong this weekend. It f****** sucks going to test again to see if I can make tv this week,” Kingston said, referring to AEW television.

Kevin Blackwood announced for PWG Battle of Los Angeles 2022

PWG has announced the third entrant in the Battle of Los Angeles 2022.

Kevin Blackwood will be part of the 2022 BOLA tournament, joining JONAH and Alex Shelley as the first three participants announced.  The Battle of Los Angeles is set for Saturday, January 29 and Sunday, January 30, the same weekend as WWE’s Royal Rumble.

Blackwood, 31, currently holds the ESW Heavyweight Championship, defeating AEW’s Daniel Garcia for the title last month. Blackwood made his PWG debut in November at It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll), losing to Lee Moriarty.

Battle of Los Angeles returns in 2022 following a two-year absence. This iteration of the tournament will be held over two nights, a departure from the three-night format of recent years. Current PWG World Champion Bandido won the 2019 BOLA. Ricochet remains the only two-time winner of the tournament, claiming victory in 2014 and 2017.
