Kenn Doane working at WWE Performance Center as coach

Kenn Doane is working at the WWE Performance Center, a new report says.

PWInsider reported this morning that Doane has been hired by WWE as a coach for their Performance Center and has been working in Orlando for the last several weeks. Doane’s Twitter bio also says he’s now a coach at the WWE Performance Center. Doane also appreared in a backstage promo that aired on NXT last month.

Doane, 35, is best known for his run in WWE as a member of the Spirit Squad, winning the World Tag Team Championships in 2006. Once the gimmick was dropped, Doane returned as a singles wrestler under the name Kenny Dykstra. He mostly wrestled in the undercard before being released in 2008.

In 2016, he and Spirit Squad member Mikey made a return to WWE as a tag team, aligning with The Miz, who was feuding with Dolph Ziggler at the time, with the story being that Ziggler was a former member of the Spirit Squad as Nicky. Kenny and Mikey teamed briefly on SmackDown before eventually disappearing from television.

In April of this past year, Doane announced that he had retired from in-ring action.

Former WWE World Tag Team Champion Kenn Doane (formerly known as Kenny Dykstra) has announced his retirement from in-ring competition.

“I’ve decided to retire from in ring wrestling,” the 35-year-old Doane tweeted on Tuesday morning. “When I started at 13 I thought I’d retire at 40. But smart investments overtime have allowed me to be done now. I’m in my prime, and that will go towards my family and being a father. Thanks to the fans who stuck by me.”

Beyond Wrestling thanked Doane for the work he did for their promotion and wished him good luck going forward: “An unsung hero of Uncharted Territory. Thank you and good luck!”

Doane was trained by Killer Kowalski before signing with WWE developmental. Doane was a member of The Spirit Squad in WWE and held the World Tag Team titles as part of the group.

The Spirit Squad debuted on Raw in January 2006 and were disbanded in November of that year. Doane later had a singles run in WWE before being released in 2008.

In 2016, The Spirit Squad’s Doane and Mike Mondo returned to WWE as part of The Miz’s feud with their former Spirit Squad stablemate Dolph Ziggler but weren’t signed to the company.

Doane and Mondo appeared in MLW’s Battle Riot match in 2018 and wrestled for the promotion multiple times in 2019.

Left My Wallet: Super Bowl preview with Kenn Doane

It’s a special Super Bowl preview edition of “Left My Wallet” as I talk this Sunday’s big game with fellow Killer Kowalski trainee and my former WWE and OVW colleague, Kenn Doane!

Kenn and I are both native New Englanders, grew up only 30 minutes away from each other, and came up through the Northeast indies before our time in WWE. Our career timeline has paralleled, but so has our love for all sports, especially New England sports. On the podcast, Kenn and I discuss the quiet media week so far, Nickell Roby-Coleman thinking Tom Brady has slowed down, Kenn’s big keys of the game for the Patriots, more Tony Romo talk, stories of Kenn calling into Philly radio stations to bash the Eagles, our thoughts on the Madden ’19 Super Bowl simulation, over/under predictions on prop bets, and more!

Kenn is a lifelong Patriots fan and gives an in-depth preview and prediction of what he thinks will take place Sunday. The Super Bowl is only a few days away so come get your wrestling and football fix as I chat with the former Spirit Squad member.
