Davey Boy Smith Jr., ‘Filthy’ Tom Lawlor announced for Bloodsport

The third edition of Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport saw several new names added over the last few days including two men that faced off against each other at last year’s event.

Barnett announced Monday that Davey Boy Smith Jr. will return for the third time and try to remain a perfect 3-0. The news follows Sunday’s announcement that former UFC light heavyweight and current PFL fighter “Filthy” Tom Lawlor will also return for action.

Smith and Lawlor faced each other at the second Bloodsport with Smith picking up a knockout win. This will be Lawlor’s second Bloodsport as he was part of the inaugural Matt Riddle version and submitted by WALTER.

Barnett also announced Sunday that longtime wXw veteran Alexander James will make his Bloodsport debut.

The three men join a lineup that includes Barnett, AEW World Champion Jon Moxley, Impact Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo, Homicide, Killer Kelly, Chris Dickinson, Calvin Tankman, Josh Alexander, Erik Hammer, Lindsay Snow and Kal Jak. No matchups have been announced as of yet.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, October 11th as part of GCW’s rescheduled The Collective weekend in Indianapolis, IN, originally slated for the canceled WrestleMania weekend in Tampa, Florida.

Minoru Suzuki vs. Chris Dickinson set for Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport III

After headlining two of the previous events, Minoru Suzuki is returning to Bloodsport.

It was announced tonight that Suzuki will face Chris Dickinson at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport III. The show is taking place at The Cuban Club in Tampa, Florida on April 2, which is the Thursday of WrestleMania week.

After Low Ki pulled out of Matt Riddle’s Bloodsport in 2018, Suzuki replaced him and defeated Riddle in the main event. Suzuki and Josh Barnett then went to a time limit draw at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport I over WrestleMania week last year.

Dickinson is also a previous Bloodsport headliner. Barnett defeated Dickinson in the main event of Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport II last September, with that match being made after Jon Moxley had to miss the show due to the MRSA infection he had in his elbow.

Barnett vs. Moxley will now take place at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport III. Jeff Cobb and Davey Boy Smith Jr. have also been confirmed for the show, though their opponents haven’t been revealed.

Bloodsport features hybrid MMA-style pro wrestling matches that have no ropes and can only be won by knockout or submission.

GCW adds Alex Shelley to Spring Break, DBS Jr. to Bloodsport

Game Changer Wrestling has made a couple of talent announcements for WrestleMania week.

It was announced yesterday that Alex Shelley will be in action at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 4 on Friday, April 3. This will be the first time that Shelley has wrestled at a Spring Break show or for GCW.

Shelley & Kushida teamed up in NXT’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and lost to The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) in the first round last Wednesday. WWE uploaded a video after the show where Shelley & Kushida discussed reuniting, thanked the fans, and — despite their loss — put the NXT tag team division on notice.

The Great Muta and Will Ospreay have also been confirmed for Joey Janela’s Spring Break 4.

Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport III is being held on Thursday, April 2. It was announced yesterday that Davey Boy Smith Jr. will be wrestling at Bloodsport.

Smith Jr. has wrestled at both of Barnett’s previous Bloodsport shows, defeating Killer Kross and Tom Lawlor.

Barnett vs. Jon Moxley is set for Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport III, and Jeff Cobb has been confirmed for the show as well. The event features hybrid MMA/pro wrestling-style matches that have no ropes and can only be won by knockout or submission.

Spring Break and Bloodsport are both taking place at The Cuban Club in Tampa, Florida.

Jon Moxley to face Josh Barnett at Bloodsport

As was promised when their match fell through last year, a new date has been set for Jon Moxley vs. Josh Barnett.

It was announced tonight that Moxley vs. Barnett will happen at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport III over WrestleMania week. The show is taking place at The Cuban Club in Tampa, Florida on Thursday, April 2.

Moxley vs. Barnett was supposed to headline Barnett’s Bloodsport II in September 2019, but Moxley had to be pulled from the show due to the MRSA infection he had in his elbow. It also forced Moxley to miss his scheduled match against Kenny Omega at All Out.

Moxley sent a tweet to Barnett telling him they’re “gonna get this one back” after their original match fell through. Barnett defeated Chris Dickinson at Barnett’s Bloodsport II.

Bloodsport is being put on by Game Changer Wrestling and Barnett. Matches are hybrid MMA/pro wrestling style, have no ropes, and can only be won by knockout or submission.

Jeff Cobb has also been announced for April’s Bloodsport show.
